Hotel is smack near Times Square so it's easily accessible by subway. That being said - hotel is in dire need of updating. Hallways dirty, doors to rooms dirty, bathrooms from the 80s. I observed used tissues and papers on the floor - went to get coffee - got back it was still there. Same with elevator. Room was clean and pretty spacious. Paint peeling in several places and repairs were done to the sheetrock that were careless and whoever did them didn't care about aesthetics (or ever learned how to use sand paper apparently!). Front desk staff made up for shortcomings of the hotel - the nicest people, accommodating, informative and kind.

Dirty room, electrical sockets hanging off walls, dirty flannel hanging over shower rail overlooked by maid, had to get engineer to repair broken safe upon arrival, had to contact security about noisy guests in next room. A very disappointing hotel the only good point is location. They will charge you EXTRA "FACILITY FEE" $20 per night and it is unavoidable!! AVOID!!!!!!!

Unfortunately our stay was ruined as we left, as the concierge tried very hard to scam us. We asked the receptionist the night prior to leaving about cabs to the airport and how much they cost, she said a flat rate of $65 plus tip which is also what we found online. So we decided to not go with a shuttle and just do the cab. But when we asked the concierge to double check as we waited to leave, she said it was $85 plus tip, we said no we got told $65 and she said she would go out and check (there were 2 cabs waiting out the front), and came back to say again $85. We were very confused so after questioning her more, we decided to go ask 2 cab drivers on the street and they said $65 plus tip. We told her and she said good luck and told us we were going to get ripped off, the cab drivers were lying and we would get into trouble.
We got to the airport with a flat rate of $65 plus tip, no worries.
It was a bit disappointing to have someone try and scam us and try to rip us off as we left the city. Concierges should be there for help and should be honest/trustworthy.
This lady made us leave the hotel with a sour taste in our mouths.

It s just not a great hotel. The rooms are really tacky, breakfast isn t really breakfast unless you class a Muffin as breakfast and for the quality, the price is a little high.
The staff are nice and the location is good for tourism and work, but I wouldn t recommend it.

Exceptional location full center several metro stops close to the hotel, very friendly staff excellent cleaning, but honestly the hotel is not a 4 star the photos do not match the room I was assigned I think the last restoration is from the 80's / 90 a nice big TV, the room has an iron safe American coffee machine from a 4-star hotel I expected more but the price was slightly lower than the hotels in the area

It was an overall great stay! Great location as it was in the middle of times square and central park. The staff that I encountered from the Concierge to the bellhops and other staff were great. They were frindly and also more than willing to help give any suggestions on what attractions to enjoy. The room was clean and we had a great view of the billboards and screens of times square. The only complaint would be the heat in the room which took a while to warm up but it was fine in the end. The price for a nightly rate was great. All in all a great stay and I would recommend it to anyone looking to stay near times square.

If there was a rating less than 1 star I would pick it. I travel 3-4 times a week. This was my worst hotel as long as I can remember. I had to go to drugstore and buy cleaning supplies and air freshener. Plus I wore a mask in the room. Disgusting. I paid $400 per night.

Besides the location, this hotel was terrible...
My wife and I traveled to New York last weekend to celebrate her birthday with a show and a nice dinner. When we arrived we took our bags up to our room and it was extremely hot, so I turned down the temp to 65 in the room and we went out for a few hours to see the sites. After having a great evening in the city we came back to a room that was 90 degrees. When I called the front desk I was told that the a/c is shut off till spring, Then why wasn't I told that when I checked in, The lady at the front desk then told me to open my window to cool the room down. My wife is 7 months pregnant and we had to sleep with the windows open and the new york city traffic honking in the background and still hot as hell. Besides the hot room the bed was terrible and the room was not clean. I took a shower in the morning and the towels were paper thin and very small. It is highway robbery what this hotel is charging for what you get, I will never stay there or recommend to anyone, Extremely disappointed, do yourself a favor and find another hotel

Before booking, we did see some reviews stating that the rooms were in bad condition. Some of them even had pictures attached showing moldy carpet, moldy bathroom fixtures, and wet carpet. It did also mention the hats some of the rooms were undergoing a renovation. When I made the reservation I asked them if we could be put in a room that had been renovated because we were coming for a special event and wanted to make it as nice as possible for our anniversary. The hotel rap said that she would put notes are in our account stating our preferences. When we got there, she said there was no notes in the system about what we wanted but that if we wanted to upgrade to a floor that was completely renovated, it would be an extra cost. After causing a little bit of a fuss, she just so happened to have found a room that had undergone a "soft" renovation. We accepted that because we would rather have that than no renovation at all. As we proceeded to our room, we noticed the hallway carpet was terrible and the smell was not so great either. When we opened the door to our room we were pleasantly surprised until my wife peeked into the bathroom and there was long hairs stuck to the floor and bathroom fixtures. We got some tissues and cleaned them up and everything was pretty good until the second morning that they cleaned our room, we were only left one bath towel for four people. We called down and they said they had a towel shortage but would deliver them up when they got them. We returned to our room later that day and they had brought an extra comforter (not requested) but no towels. Had to call back down for the towels. And the last thing is the A/C (or lack of). We had it set at 65 degrees (the lowest it would go) and it never got below 74. Quite miserable to sleep in. Would not recommend this place at all!

I just reserved a room for January 13 thru the 16th. This review is being made to ensure that my stay at the Manhattan will be a pleasant one. I will be travelling with my wife and two (2) year old son. Health and sanitation is our number 1 concern when it comes to hotels, If the Manhattan cannot provide my family with a room that is clean, bug free, rust free, dust free, etc., please let me know. Some of the Manhattan's reviews rise to the level of actionable consumer-protection civil suits. Again, the health and safety of my family is my number one priority. I hope the Manhattan delivers! =)

Rather disorganized and snooty. Didn't answer front desk phone when I tried to call several times regarding out of town guests. Those same guests had ordered two full beds which they did not have upon arrival, and made no offer of charging less. Finally gave them a cot and felt they should be grateful for that, but still did not charge less. Rooms were old and outdated. Just okay.

The hotel is well located near Times Square. Unfortunately the level of cleanliness is not Italian (one day they did not redo the room, another time I had a stained towel in the room, on the last day I discovered that the cleaning women have only one toilet brush for the bedrooms of the plan!!!!). I will not return

Rooms were quite old and the nice pictures we see online, for what I know now belong to the executive floors. Beds were sunken at the back are and we can literally feel the springs. Great location but didn't expect beds like these for such a price!

Very good location and clean rooms with a view of 7th Avenue, door man tried to rip us over when asked for a taxi, offered us a private car for $90, took a yellow cab for $55. Other than that great hotel.

Friendly and accommodating staff. Clean facilities, close to the subway and local fare, and Times Square is literally right up the block. Might not have all the bells and whistles, but if you're gonna be spending most of your time in New York out on the town (as you should!) this is a great base of operations.

Room was clean, but there was no hot water to shower in. We had to take cold showers. Also our reservation was under my friends name, he called to add my name to the reservation, they said we would be set, when I went to check-in my name was not there and it took 30 minutes to finally get checked in.

Very old hotel, the rooms lack of cleaning and maintenance, cast lights and TV not working, the beds need new mattresses, the staff a bit serious but correct. You can have breakfast, paying, in a cafeteria inside the reception Hall. Lack of soundproofing of the windows, being on 7 Avenue very close to Times Square, is the good thing it has, its proximity to the center.

Hotel was in great location. Not far from the heart of times square. We paid in advance for a junior suite and were quickly disappointed. The room was absolutely nothing like the pictures. The room was clean but the terrace was dirty. We called the front desk and were told that we couldn't switch rooms till the next day. Since we were traveling with another couple we put our belongings in their room the next morning and informed the front desk we would be gone for the day and were told the new room would be ready by 4. Upon arriving back to the hotel after 4pm the room was not ready, thank goodness we didn't come back early. The website says the junior suite has 2 TVs but that is not the case. There are no premium channels either. As with most hotels if you can bring your own toilet paper, do, it's like using one ply lol. Bed was comfy, bathroom was very big. Staff was not very helpful when it came to issues with first room. We wont go back to this hotel again.

The hotel is very good. The experience was satisfactory. The room very comfortable and with a nice view of the city. The point where it is located is ideal if it is the first time you are in New York, it is close to everything. The atmosphere is very nice.

Horrible horrible horrible. I have not yet stayed here (reservation is for this weekend) and thus far trying to get in contact with front desk and a manger is impossible. I have been put on hold, hung up on, put on hold, phone picked up (they say nothing) an immediately put me back on hold. Been on hold for 1hr! (no exaggeration). The horrific customer service and inability to get a manager on the phone is ridiculous and unacceptable. Immediately after booking I tried to cancel my reservation due to the horrible motel like room photos they had, misleading us to think most of the rooms were updated (false, only 1 floor is and that is an exaggerated added cost, which at that point you can stay at the nicer chains such as the Westin or Hyatt) We were told that they could not cancel our reservation, (some b.s about their contract with Tripadvisor). The manager then promised us he would upgrade us to the very few updated rooms they have on the executive floor. I have insistently been calling to confirm, because with what I have been experiencing, I do not trust them and their inconsistency. What a horrible experience to go through as I come to NY to celebrate my birthday...more so, I recall having stayed here two years ago when I was in NY, and it was great. I was in one of the nicely renovated units, however this experience the 2nd time is completely different and horrendous! Did ownership change? How did customer service become not important?...At this point I want a refund and nothing more to do with this place

My friend booked a deluxe king size bed few weeks ...
My friend booked a deluxe king size bed few weeks in advance for a 4-night stay for my family and his. I checked in around 10pm. Linda at the front desk checked me in. She was not accommodating and not friendly at all. Once our credit card was taken, she said our room will be ready in 15-minutes and just have a seat and someone will come to us. So myself and my two kids (4yr old son whom I was carrying was sleeping already and my 10yr old daughter was waiting around). My husband went to the airport to pick up our friend. I was patient and waited an hour. I finally went up to the desk and Maxine helped me. She was surprised and apologetic because my room has been ready for a while. I told her Linda checked me in and she said that someone will let me know when my room is ready. I saw Linda after outside, after her shift. After 30-mins. of checking me in, her shift was done. This just tells me she was not dealing with me properly and just wanted to do her shift.
Now when my husband and our friend and his family arrived and checked in, Arrielle checked them in. Now she's another one, not accommodating and not friendly. My friend also booked the deluxe king bed. I found out deluxe rooms are on the 19th floor and higher. Now why is that Linda gave me the lower floor when my friend also booked me a deluxe king bed. I told this to Arrielle and she had no answer. I asked if there was a price difference and she said no. Later on I found out from my friend that he did pay more for a deluxe.
Wednesday morning I went down and asked the front desk and Mohammad was more friendly and explained they can move us but must come back around 2:30pm-3pm to most likely have an availability for a deluxe. We are settled in already and have no time to come back at this time cuz we made out an itinerary so we are out and about.
You know what this reminds me of, the Seinfeld episode regarding reservation. Basically Seinfeld had booked a car reservation. Upon arrival, there were no vehicles available. So what he was saying was, the place knows how to take reservation but does not know how to hold that reservation.
Bottom line, I should've had that room that I booked AND the ladies at the front need to be more friendly, accommodating, not have attitude and watch how they deliver their words/sentences, this goes for Linda and Arrielle. Maxine was great. Mohammad was great. Housekeeping was great. Remember, its all about the front end. That's the first one in line who you deal with and judge your experience and ratings.

4 **** hotel that does not reach a roadside motel to say the least. Zero cleaning Unfavorable staff. Grim breakfast and you should take it at reception where you can. They do not strive or facilitate you in giving information. I would not return or recommend it.

Nice and big hotel. Great place and overall good view. However, the building has about 20 floors, so you will have to look at other buildings. Also, like everywhere in New York, the breakfast is expensive at the hotel.

This hotel is cheaper than some others in the area, and the location is ideal - it's right at Times Square. However, that's about where the good things end.
You walk in, and it does look somewhat modern, but just... kind of empty and lacking. Whatever, at least it seems clean. I checked in, and the process just involved me giving them my credit card and license and then me receiving it back with my room keys - no explanation about amenities or WiFi or anything like that that you would normally hear when checking into a hotel. No clues about the checkout time either - I had to look that up online.
As soon as you get off the elevator onto your floor (well, at least I can speak for the 8th floor), you quickly realize why it's not $300/night. It's pretty rundown - carpets and walls are stained, and as others have said, look like they haven't been replaced since the 60s or 70s.
The room itself is just okay - I booked the Run of House type room through Expedia, and was terribly disappointed. It's only a full size bed in a TINY room (with a TINY bathroom), and through Expedia is was MORE than the cost of the Standard room (with a kind bed!) through the hotel's website (which would have also included a free to-go breakfast!).
Also, maybe I was just eager to relax in a pool, but I was disappointed to hear that the hotel did not have a swimming pool. Maybe this is the case in NYC due to space or something, but I've never been to a hotel that didn't have a swimming pool.
Take-aways: DO NOT book through Expedia - you'll pay more for a smaller room, and then if you try to argue it they'll tell you that they can only compare against the same type of room (never mind that the room they offer is smaller). And then also just note that you're going to pay for a place to sleep in a convenient location. Nothing more.

The hotel was kind of disappointing. The room was hot and the way they fixed the problem was they just opened a window. No temperature control. The ceiling was cracked in the shower. The drain in the shower was plugged the first night. No pool or hot tub. Not a very good breakfast selection. The elevators were slow.

Awesome location, the only saving grace. Service was horrendous, after our 2nd night only towels were changed, no cleaning in our room, no coffee. We even woke up with insect bites. Not to mention the drainage in the bathroom and toilet which was extremely slow. Also not even a microwave or fridge in the room, with no food heating facilities in the hotel. Will NOT be back. Rather spend the same money on a proper 4 star hotel.

Booked the Manhattan Times Square. The lobby is the nicest part of the hotel we've seen so far. Our two rooms were on the 19th floor which means we have a view. The view is cool. After exiting the elevator, you enter an extremely dated hallway of rooms. Found the ice and vending pocket and it's dirty. The floor is disgusting. I only wonder if the ice machine is ever cleaned. Off to our room, it's small and very dated. The carpet is dark yet you can still see old stains. The walls are nicked and have been repainted numerous times. The bathroom has mold on the walls and horrible patch jobs here and there. This is times square. I would have thought it would be updated and cleaner. Don't waste your money here.

I enjoyed the spaciousness of the hotel rooms. I couldn't believe how big they were for Manhattan! I enjoyed everything except for the hounding from the housekeeping staff -- if there is a "do not disturb" sign on the door, that's all you need. I felt like they were always in the hallway asking if I needed the room to be cleaned. Just follow normal procedure!

honestly this place probably doesn't even deserve a star. we got to our room and it smelled like marijuana. so we called down and they said they didn't have any rooms we could switch to. we thought this was a little weird so we called as an outside source and asked if they had any rooms and they did. so we are all very frustrated, light headed and maybe have a second hand high. hope we survive the night. also the pool is closed for renovation so that really stinks too.
