Check in was really slow. Decor is out of date. Walls so thin you hear the next door talk. Only good thing location

Hotel was overall decent but we had a few quirks with our room. We were offered at check-in to change from our king size bed room we booked to a higher floor room with a queen bed. We accepted thinking there would be less street noise up high on the 16th floor. Big mistake. The "Queen" bed was Full-sized at best. Bedside clock radio didn't work, TV audio would cut out constantly, and the safe in the closet wouldn't lock. Also, even at the 16th floor we could still hear every siren, car horn beep, and such. Should've stayed with our original booking. Room 1602
Very poor management base on what they charging per night.
some bogus (mandatory) charge for internet and other services more than $30 per day?! this is too much
Rooms were not as nice as other hotels in the area but the beds and pillows were super cozy
Service was great, room was super clean and well kept, but the amenities were slacking. They offer complimentary breakfast, but that only consisted of ONE pastry, ONE fruit, and ONE drink. And they wouldn't let me trade the piece of fruit for another pastry. It was a pretty expensive hotel. You would think they wouldn't be so cheap with their pastries.
Clean room, good breakfast although not excessive.
Very welcoming staff (especially the staff at the bar john and dolores). Great location, low price.
Great location. The beds were small for our family, but overall is a great hotel
Awesome place to stay... Right there next to Time square
This is by far the worst hotel ive stayed at. The rooms , beds, restrooms are not inly dirty but old and moldy. Would not recommend this place to anyone. The worst place ever. Never stay here unless they put in some serious money and renovate this place
A NYC hotel that demands a lot of money to keep up. It is at the height of a Wellington or a Central Parking. The difference only lies in who got a better deal according to the offers of each moment. Maybe for those who are looking for the main entertainment theater, be the best located.
High price not so good hotel, quite old, fantastic position.
If I could I would give less than a star. Terrible stay! Besides the location this hotes should be demolished and rebuilt entirely. Really dusty, old, AC noisy, carpet and walls dirty in the rooms and in the corridors, bad smell ...
I will never be back here before they will completely remodel it.
So far my experience has been poor I ve called and inquired quite a few times at the front desk about the AC issue in my room. It s 80 in my room. I m asking for help please I m here till Friday.
Great central location. Walk everywhere: Union Square, Embarcadero, Chinatown, Nob Hill (if you have it in you). Lovely rooms, friendly staff, would not stay anywhere else.
The hotel is very central and very welcoming. Very comfortable bed and general cleanliness is accurate. Features a coffee maker and in-room safe.
Great hotel and helpful staff. Great location just steps away from Time's Square and the central park. During my stay at the hotel my room was well kept and cleaned everyday. I am giving this hotel a five star review based on my personal experience with the staff. Their rooms have an iron and ironing board, a hair dryer and a safe.
Me and my sister booked this hotel for our birthdays we were there a total of 3 night. The photos we had seen previously looked very luxurious and beautiful we did think we had to worry about looking at reviews or anything like that. As we walked in everything looked fancy and smelled fabulous, we had to wait a minute before we checked in but it wasn't long. As we got to our floor the hall way honestly looked like a seen from a haunted movie, it looks old the carpet was dirty. We had booked a room with a queen bed but got a room really small with what seemed to be a twin bed. The furniture was old and the lamps dusty as well as the carpet. There was a coffee maker ... but no coffee pot! The bathroom had a really strong mold smell, the tub looked old and partially yellow. The knob to turn on the shower had a mold ring and the ceiling was peeling. The sink also had some mold.i literally gagged every time I went in bathroom! We spent minimal amount of time in the room, but in 2 occasions we got a really strong smell as if someone was smoking weed right there! Im guessing it was traveling through the vents!? The wifi didnt work, TV didnt work, it would freeze up. One thing I can say is that the location of the hotel was perfect, but I won't be coming back to this hotel.
Great location! Rooms a little musty with no individual air control. Semi small bathrooms. Awesome staff (PAOLO!!!), but very loud talking cleaning personnel.
The workers were nice. Keep in mind there is a $20 hidden fee for each room that you have to pay. They should have just added that into the room price instead. You pay a 50 dollar deposit and only get $30 back. The Windows in my room were very dirty and gross. The heater thing had a metal side that kept falling off which was very annoying. No breakfast. Other than that, decent hotel but I would not stay here again.
Location is great and described perfectly. If the rooms were as pretty as the lobby, it would have been a great stay. The bathroom decor was something out of the 70s, with pink tile and a bath tub knob, that was so old there were no longer hot and cold specifications.
The staff at reception was having a bad attitude no diplomase at all!!
Very bad experience, never gonna go back again!!!
The hotel is extremely well located in the heart of times square. The lobby is very elegant and the staff were very nice and helpful. Aside from the lobby the halls and rooms are a bit dated and could use some updating. Bed and pillows were comfortable and the size of the room was good for in the city. Unfortunately the room was not very clean and there was hair all over the bathroom floor. Things like that are disappointing and quite disgusting.
Rooms are dingy and old and are in desperate need of refurbishing. We didn t stay and ended up going somewhere else.
So long story, checked in Friday afternoon and left Monday morning. Friday afternoon me and my friends checked in smoothly and had a nice view from the room. The bathroom had not been cleaned (it smelled badly) and there was dried up toothpaste on the mirrors frame for some reason??? Anyways, we asked for it to be cleaned by the housekeeper and she insisted that it had already been done(she was outside our room at the time). We shrugged it off and decided to go to eat. We come back, and our ROOM WAS LEFT OPEN AND OUR WINDOWS WERE OPENED. We had our luggage out and we complained to front desk that housekeeping had for some reason went back into our room and left EVERYTHING OPEN!! Anyways, you are literally only paying for LOCATION. Location of the place is great. But the rooms stink, they don't vacuum(because there is dust underneath the desks and around the beds). We had room 1125, the tub was cracked so old water was stuck in between the tub and the wall. The only reason it's worth it it's for location. Our lamps didn't work either and nothing had been wiped down clean and nothing in the bathroom smelled clean like..at all!!
Room was absolutely disgusting. Found a giant pile of someone else's feces in the toilet when we first checked in. Took staff 1 and 1/2 hours to take care of it (after 3 phone calls). After it was finally cleaned, housekeeping left dirty sponge on our floor. Found someone else's hair in the bed, different color than my wife's so we know it wasn't ours. Clearly the room was not cleaned at all and was simply made to look as if it was. Would never stay here again, absolutely appalled at lack of maintenance and effort by staff.
I would say the location would be a 4 star but as you can tell everything else about it was unpleasant. No complimentary Coffee or Water. If you stayed the night than you get a Coffee or juice, a fruit and a Muffin coupon. Not enough tables to sit down and relax with your food that came to you in a brown paper bag. Now the room. GROSS. We walked in and over between the beds above the phone stand was a could splotches of Blood. Not kidding. Not as in pools of blood but like a nosebleed and someone flapped they bloody finger to get the blood off. It was gross. The next Morning I decided to start my day with a shower. The tub hardly drained. So ofcourse I thought maybe my teenager long haired daughter stopped it up the night before. I grabbed my plastic baggy that I packed my hygiene supplies in for the trip. Put my hand in the bag so I could unclog the drain. Keep in mind, my daughter is a Ash Blonde hair child. I pulled out 2 different times, Black short hairs, long hairs that were black and some were so small that they looked like Pubic Hairs. I stopped digging at the drain with my Baggied Hand and went to soap and water and then used my Alcohol wipes. ONLY THING GOOD ABOUT THIS PLACE IS THE LOCATION
Nice lobby, very friendly staff. Rooms seem to be a bit tired, could use some investment, but serviceable.
I put 4 * for the excellent location and the value for money but for the old-fashioned hotel and household leaving sometimes to be desired it is worth only 3.
Upon checking out I was told my $150 would be returned to my card which never happened, I paid for my room in full thru Expedia, I was aware of the extra fees of the facilities which I paid in full before leaving the establishment, I also paid for my parking in full which was $104. These people told me to wait at least a week before my $150 would be returned to my card which it Never was!!!! I've been calling and been Givin the run around and unprofessionally told to have my bank call them on third party calling so they could explain to the bank and the bank could explain to me why they never refunded my card, they're was no damage to the room, no smoking, I didn't use the mini bar, or wifi so I'm trying to figure out why for almost two weeks now I still have not gotten my money or received any calls from this hotel, today is May 2nd of 2019 and while at work this hotel charged my card Again for $80.34 and when I called the woman tried to tell me it was because they switched my cards and refunded the wrong amount which never even happened... I am literally going to have to shut my card down and seek legal options to simply get money that was owed back to me!!!!! I still have not heard from them or received my refund they were the most horrible experience in New York that I ever experienced and this was first time ever even visiting this state they made my experience in New York just horrible
Outdated bathroom and shower in desperate need of upgrade. Location is great.
Room was a little outdated but the bed was comfortable. You definitely cant beat the location. It's in the middle if everything. Will stay again.
Good hotel to visit New York. Next to Times Square and Central Park
When you walk into this hotel you feel like your getting you money's worth, the lobby is phenomenal. The minute you walk into your room it feels like your staying at a motel. The rugs are dirty the walls are dirty my toilet didn't work! The rooms are completely outdated! They will not even give you your money back!! Stay away from this place!!!
Excellent location. Quiet considering proximity to times square
I like this place, good service, friendly employees, cheap prices
Totally delighted with our stay in May 2016: large room with a huge terrace, on the top floor of the hotel. The room was always clean, the staff lovely. The muffins of breakfast are to die for and the formula is finally very flexible and inexpensive for the neighborhood: it is not a buffet but we choose what makes us happy and pay directly at the checkout each morning. Thank you to the whole team for the welcome!
Great location, but the hotel is old and generally below expectations for a 4 star hotel. The resort fee is ridiculous.
This hotel is definitely NOT worth your time and money! GO ANYWHERE ELSE!
This is the best-priced hotel so close to Times Square. If you have realistic expectations you will not be disappointed. The location is great and the price is right! Had I spent $300 a night for a nicer hotel I would have been seriously upset because all we did was sleep here. Our days were spent exploring the city and seeing the sights. We came back everyday to a clean room and fresh towels. I will definitely stay here again.
Had a great time there lots of things to see and do very busy
Hotel perfectly located next to Times Square. Very attentive staff but quite old rooms
went to the Manhattan to sit at the bar and grab some drinks with friends. the staff their was super nice and the atmosphere was great
Pros:
Excellent location, walking distance to Time Square, Central Park, Met, Museum of Natural History, Rockefeller Center and endless shopping.
Price, we paid just over $400 USD for 3 nights.
Staff were friendly and professional
Cons
This is DEFINITELY not a 4 star hotel. The pictures on their website and booking sites are not at all like the room we stayed in. The room was ugly, small and smelly. It didn t even have a TV.
The cleaning staff left their carts in the hallways and it was kinda annoying to walk by them when we went to and from our room.
My overall consensus is that we got what we paid for. I m pretty sure it would be hard pressed to get a better deal for the location. I wouldn t pay more than we did.
Great location and decent rooms. The rooms aren't fancy or shiny but they have everything you need. The WiFi is great too!
One of our favorite hotels, great outdoor area included!
Corridors and old rooms badly maintained without plugs or lights.horrible
The two stars is strictly for the fact that it had a bed and the location. The reason I'm not rating it higher is because the staff here is so unhelpful it was disgusting.
Do NOT park where they tell you too. It's a scam to basically get more money from tourists who don't know the city very well. After realizing parking wasn't included in the price (approximately 15 minutes) we ran back to the garage to get our car, they told us it's $17; otherwise go to the concierge and ask for a voucher. Darryl is the most awful excuse of a hotel manager. I'm going to provide you with his exact words about the issues of the parking (while holding vouchers for parking in his hand) " You can go as high as you want to, general manager, district manager, your issues still won't be solved" The parking garage claimed to not have any association with the hotel, however, upon checking out, I found out they DO have association with the hotel and only found out when I had to ask why there was an additional $30 charge to pay cash on top of the 2x$54 charge per night to take our car back. The concierge was just as puzzled with that as we were.
We were greeted by a pile of garbage in front of our room door (3 full bags at 10pm) and dirty towels and bed sheets. When we went back to the front desk to let them know, they explained that house keeping was still working...(at 10pm)...unlikely, especially the fact that there was no staff members cleaning or to be found on our floor at any time until the next day. The room had plenty of leak marks in the ceiling (both over the bed and in the washroom) and the bathtub had a soft floor with a HUGE water pocket underneath that you could feel (and hear) with every motion you made in that shower.
No respect, poor service but good location. As a first time experience in Manhattan, we won't be returning to that hotel...at least until they get new management. As a company that specializes in hospitality, this was not their focal point. I hope this review helps the next people who plan to stay with them. My advice don't waste so much money for a $800 motel style room.
Location: 10/10
Staff: 4/10
Cleanliness: 1/10
We found a used syringe in our room! :scream: When we told the front desk, they hesitated to give us a discount on our room.
The only reason I am giving this place a star is because the wonderful staff that works at this hotel. Our room was disgusting. It smelled, there were stains on the window, stains on the light covers, stains on the blinds, stains on the ironing board and stains on the shower tiles. The iron leaked out from the bottom all over my shirt when I went to use it. The elevator got stuck, twice, in the same ride down! I checked out the same day I checked in. I highly recommend you stay anywhere else.
Great location and staff. Amazing experience for our honeymoon!
Just average accommodations. Could not get the A/C temp to work correctly... "on" you froze, "off" it got warm and stuffy. Our room had not been renovated since pink tiled bathrooms were in vogue. Would give only 2 stars for bathroom cleanliness. All of the personnel we encountered were polite, accommodating, and friendly. One stood out as special, Mohammed at the front desk. He made our experience much better.
Great location, cozy rooms and all extremely clean. The staff is very helpful and friendly. The hotel is opposite the Times square subway station so everything can be easily reached. Modern and crowded it is convenient for water distributors
Expensive but close to everything that is to say in NYK
Despite all the awful reviews I read about this hotel I was sort of pressed to book it due to the location , price , and booking at the last minute. I was very happy with the Hotel! It was exactly what I expected. I was great for accommodating 13 girls for a Bachelorette weekend in the city ! . It was close to Times Square and easy access to the subway and restaurants. The room was clean and with the accomodations expected . The staff members where awesome specially Rose Jean ( who gave us 3 set of NYC mugs , welcome chocolates , key chains, and a free upgrade for one of the rooms for our Bride to be) That was just astounding !Mohammed & Dolly at the " Grab and Go " gave us all complementary breakfast snaks the morning of out departure. It was just fantastic, at the right price and at the perfect location.
I do not wish to be disturbed when I sleep to make room! If you mark not to be disturbed is to be quiet!
Given the price level for hotel rooms in New York which is absolutely crazy I think that this hotel is a reasonable choice if you can get the discount for booking in advance. The location is great and the staff I met was friendly and helpful.
In my opinion the "Manhatten at Times Square Hotel" offers a reasonable compromise. The infrastructure is pretty old (in fact my room looked like it has not been refurbished for at least 40 years) but the everything is clean, the bed was good, there was a chest of drawers, a desk and a built-in closet in my room as well as a huge TV (which I didn't really need - I don't pay hundreds of dollars per night to watch TV, right?).
What I find totally inacceptable is that they think that they can charge 15$ per day for internet access in the year 2013. This is New York! You can get internet for free at Starbucks so you should get it in a hotel room that costs hundreds of dollars...
Friendly staff, rooms are a decent size for the area. Rooms are a little old. I think the are renovating some but I haven't seen any
It is not what you offer in the photos ... old hotel ... very fair rooms .... the only good thing about this hotel is location. Rest nothing. It is not 4 star imposoble. Very expensive for the bad that it is.
TRASHIEST HOTEL IN MANHATTAN - THEIR WEBSITE IS A SCAM. If there was a way to give negative stars I would. This hotel is COMPLETELY FALSELY ADVERTISED DO NOT STAY HERE. I booked this room for a work trip and was so taken off guard upon arrival I stayed long enough in the room to decide I was leaving and going to a hotel that I could actually feel comfortable taking my shoes off at!
The rooms are extremely dirty there are stains on the walls, the air conditioning doesn't work so even in the winter the rooms are grossly muggy, the smell of smoke lingers in the lobby and around the whole building, and I would put a fork in my eye before I EVER ate any open food they left in the lobby.
I thought this could have been only my room (though I knew it was unlikely because the hallways are just as disgusting) a colleague of mine had a room on a different floor and experienced the exact same problems, and had a bed that didn't have a bed skirt to cover the stains on the mattress and box spring). Any good review on the website likely just as fraudulent as the pictures this hotel shares on its website. There is no way anyone could in good faith recommend this establishment.
The staff was completely rude to me and withdrawn when I voiced my issues and did what they could to simply get me out of their hair. If all of this wasn't enough to get my point across, my colleague and I were more comfortable walking around times square in 10 degree weather in the middle of the night to find a new hotel, rather than spend one more minute in this hotel. I cannot stress enough how much you will regret booking this hotel. Save yourself the stress and scarring.
Great views, great "grab and go breakfast". I love this city but I miss my girlfriend. Going back in a few days.
A very comfortable hotel, in the heart of times square. The rooms are a bit old but very correct and with everything you need, a safe, even an iron, TV, free coffee / tea and on all floors there are bottles of mineral water (free) and vending machines.
We were very disappointed to see the poor quality of our room compared to the photos online and to the modern atmosphere set by the lobby. The hallway carpets are dingy and raveling with poor lighting, the housekeeping staff carried on VERY loud conversations which could be heard clearly in our room. The walls seemed very thin as you could also hear normal conversations in the hall and neighboring rooms. Very few accessible outlets (none near either nightstand), and the vents and smoke detector looked like they hadn't been cleaned in years. The bathroom's wallpaper and bathtub was peeling with stained grout. Also, the daily fees for Wifi and gym (which is tiny) was a surprise. 2 stars only because the bed was comfortable, the lobby staff was great, and the location was unbeatable. Not totally dissatisfied, but not the luxurious experience we were expecting.
Sufficient accommodations. Comfortable room, friendly, helpful staff. There was an ongoing sound similar to an engine running that took some getting used to. Assumed it was part of the vent duct for the elevator system. My only real complaint is the fees that were not disclosed ahead of time. We paid $111.51 in taxes and fees for 2 nights. Caught me off guard. Appreciated the onsite parking package.
This weekend I stayed in this hotel for one night. The rooms are dated. The bed was ok. The bathroom ok(ish). The corridors looks like they were forgotten to be put on the maintenance list in 1972. Overall the whole impression was a reflection of the price.
There was one thing however that really made me put this hotel on the 1 star list: The doorman. He was rude as a doorman can be. When I left the hotel he wanted to take my bag and call a cab for me. I told him that I want to handle my bag myself, because I've had sensitive glass in it. Instead of getting a nice answer like "Of course. Do you need a cab?" from him, he got snotty and puffed at me: "I know how to handle bags. I do this job already for 40 years." (This really needs to be read with a back alley style voice)
Oh well... with an attitude like that it is no wonder that he is stuck in a doorman job for a run down hotel for 40 years.
Luckily there are enough other hotels in New York City which I will enjoy on my next business trip.
Except the breakfast that is a bit short the rest perfect
Good location and price, but this hotel is old and tired. The family with the talkative kid next door was easily heard through the thin walls.
Upon check-in we were "upgraded" to another room for only 1 night because no standard rooms were available. The man at the desk said they would waive our hotel fees for our inconvenience.
The "upgraded" room had 2 blown light bulbs, the bathroom door latch fell off, and the window shade would not lower. I called the front desk twice before engineering came to take a look at the window shade. The engineer left without fixing the shade, and 15 minutes later another employee knocks on the door and hands me a bed sheet. I asked what that was for, and said we didn't ask for new bed sheets, and he told me it was to cover the window! Absolutely unacceptable to hand the guest a bed sheet to cover the window themselves. The next morning we woke up at dawn when the sun came beaming into the room. We packed our belongings, and checked out of our "upgraded" room. The lady at the desk said I'd receive a call and email when our new room was ready. I received neither. We eventually went back to the hotel to check on the status of our new room since we hadn't received a call or email, and when we asked why we didn't receive communication, we were again told our hotel fees would be waived for our 3 night stay. When we reached our new room, there were curly, dark hairs behind the toilet seat and on the bath tub, in addition to the bathroom smelling like urine. The bathroom door handle did not work(spun around in a complete circle), and even caused me to get stuck in the bathroom one night. Thankfully my dad was able to shove the door open from the outside with his shoulder. On the last morning of our stay lo and behold we received a bill for the hotel fees, which we were told would be waived twice. When we inquired at the front desk, we were told there were no notes regarding our waived hotel fees. I have never been so glad to leave a hotel in my life, and I've been to 40+ countries and 25+ states! Also, the staff clearly does not care about their guests from engineering to the concierge to the front desk staff!
