My apartment complex, The Quarry Apartments, was recently purchased by the Connor Group.
After the Connor Group purchased the complex, they came to me with my lease renewal and told me they were raising my rent by 12% for the upcoming year. After telling them I could not afford to pay that, they told me they would help me transfer to a cheaper 1 bedroom unit of my choice. However, they told me I should still sign the lease renewal for my current unit in order to quickly transfer me into another unit. Foolishly I signed this. Within the week I changed my mind and wanted to move to another apartment community. Even though there were more than 90 days before my current lease expired, they refused to let me get out of the lease renewal and said I had to stay in the complex. I accepted this answer as being my fault in the first place, lesson learned.
Now I started looking at the cheaper units and found one last week. I wanted to sign the lease that same day but they "did not have any lease papers available." For a week I heard nothing from them and finally contacted them and was told that the current tenant decided to stay in the apartment, even though it is less than 30 days before she was supposed to move out. Upon questioning staff about how they would not make a change in their rules to allow me out of my lease renewal greater than 90 days before my lease expired, but let a tenant stay even though she didn't sign a lease renewal 30 days before she was set to move out, they told me they did not want to make the tenant "homeless."
Obviously the Connor Group does not care about customer service, just strictly on making sure they get every last dollar. Now that they have me in their clutches with a lease renewal, they have found every way to make my life difficult.
The Connor Group also uses a company called First Billing Services to manage the water and sewage bills. This company charges between $8-10 per month on your bill for "administrative fees." Since the Connor Group took over my water/sewage bill has nearly doubled every month.
Avoid this place, once you sign the lease there is absolutely no attempt to provide good customer service.
