I normally don't leave reviews but I had a very pleasant experience today. Normally Synergy makes me crazy but I spoke to a man, who I wish I could remember his name to let him know that this review is for him, but I unfortunately can't.

He helped me sort out a bill I found to be excessive. $200 higher than my average bill due to it being estimated. Not going into detail - rather than telling me there was nothing he could do about it, he looked closely at the bill and compared it to my average bills and also found it odd. He readjusted it accordingly and I was very grateful for that. I was calm, respectful and factual. I received the same in return.

My day has been made.
Thank you.

Great way to manipulate your customers, Synergy! S...

Great way to manipulate your customers, Synergy! Send a letter using the carrot & stick tactic. A veiled threat, a vague admonition, and a way out, all on one page! Cunning strategy, but obvious and disrespectful to us.
My neighbour & I live outside a country town, each on 2 acres. For several years, I read my own meter, wrote the data on Synergy's card, and mailed it. In a week or 2, I got the bill back & paid it. No hassle, no sweat. Then Synergy decide they want to read my meter for me, for whatever reason, and start doing so a few years back. No consultation.
I guess Synergy is looking for ways to cut costs, as my neighbour & I each received the same letter about 2 weeks ago. Both letters claimed we had "restricted" the meter reader's access to our blocks, preventing the reading. Strange, as Synergy's reading on their account tallied exactly with my neighbour's own reading of his meter. That's the admonition.
The letter also said the reader could return if we chose to pay near $15. That's the threat.
Then they offered a way out, that's the carrot. We could avoid the cost if we began reading our own meters. I had no objection to reading my own meter in the first place, so agreed to this in a phone call.
It's the greasy, manipulative way Synergy went about this cost-cutting measure that angers me. In the phone call, I asked how the meter reader had been "restricted" from entering my block. They checked & came back, saying "a dog". Riiiigghhtt!!!! The only dog on my block in 2 years is said neighbour's toothless ancient Pekingese! It's been on my land perhaps 3 times.
Is it THIS dog who "restricted" (terrific choice of word, spin doctors!) the meter reader? What a coincidence it was on my land at just the moment the meter reader arrived! I wonder what "restricted" the meter reader from entering my neighbour's block? Same dog, or did they trot out a new excuse? Another coincidence.....
Clearly Synergy want us to read our own meters & save them labour costs. Well & good, I have no problem reading my meter & posting the card every 2 months. Not a great ask. I had no choice when they started reading my meter for me.
What I object to is the slimy, calculating methods Synergy used to push us to "volunteer" to read our own meters. If the reader was "restricted" from entering my neighbour's property, how come the "estimation" Synergy made in their bill tallied 100% with the actual meter reading?
Claiming we had "restricted" access to our blocks was manipulative, the spurious claim was to invoke a sense of obligation in us. Following was the threat- if we asked for the reader to return, there would be a financial cost, just under $15. Then there was the reward- Synergy The Great & Powerful, in their omniscient generosity, were offering us an out- read our own meters! Like a papal dispensation for the peasants...
What a slimy effort on Synergy's part! Threat, an attempt at instilling a feeling of guilt or obligation, and a small carrot, IF we do what the corporation wants!
Dear Synergy staff- instead of devious methods, have you even considered just ASKING us? Both of us would have said, "sure, I'll read my own meter from now on". You wouldn't have to insult our intelligence with the obvious lie about the reader being "restricted" from both blocks at the same time.... Nor threaten us.
Large corporations spend huge amounts on PR consultants, ever polishing, maintaining & shaping their image. They clearly have no sense of shame, no feeling of embarrassment as they lie to and manipulate their customers. Here's a tip for Synergy on how to save money- stop treating your customers as if they are naughty, retarded children who respond to greed. Instead, treat them with respect. Who knows? They might return the favour.

You people are ruining my life. We have had to utilize the 'HUGS' service already and we are on a payment plan but the repayments are so high that we can't even afford those anymore and are now facing disconnection with my 8 year old in the house! We've done power saving tips, had my appliances tested for issues yet our bills each cycle are always close to a grand!! We have solar panels for crying out loud!! This is finishing me financially, how can you get away with charging these prices??? Disgusting.

Would have given zero stars if I could - apologising for not sending out original bill and adding on a $5 late fee for said bill in the same email of apology! Been with synergy for over 15 months to be charged a "new setup account fee" to change addresses - "We do not do account transfers as the meter and meter number change when you move to a new property" ... Worst customer service!

unbelievable service, i tried to call them on last Wednesday regarding my power bills so high, and they suggest me to pay extra as a service so the electrician can check my metre box to make sure is there any faulty on the metre box or not, they said its 3 business day and they asked me to call them again on Friday. I tried to call them on Friday and they said i should call them again on Monday. So i tried to give them a call today still no result. Unbelievable i just speechless with their customer service that make a deep breath sound during our conversation. I tried to ask them nicely and their response is with deep breath sound when i talked ? Seriously? and you said the conversation are recording for training purposes. Well you should train your customer service provider how talk nicely. i can't believe they hire someone that can act so rude on the phone.

Set up a package that the previous occupiers were using. Prior to that the landlords were using this package. I was charged $74 to reconfigure the meter box to fix this package. When I queried it, I was advised that the meter box was not compatible...? however it was compatible for the last 2 occupiers...? I have lived in 3 states in australia and I am appalled at the monopoly synergy have over areas of WA. They are disgusting and arrogant in their approach to customers. I advise anyone who ever has a choice - never, ever sign up with them. Ever. I cannot wait for the day that WA gives people choice of power.

Absolutely the most unorganised company i have ever had to deal with.
We have applied 3 times for solar to be approved and we submitted these July 2020 before we moved into our house . We have been in our house now for over 6 months and they still have not approved our solar as we have called and emailed the application to them. We could have been saving heaps of money on our rebate. I'm extremely disappointed in this company. They need to get a better system and more educated people who know what they are doing.

Absolutely hate this company!!!

Even though I have consent authority on my clients accounts, they still don't want to talk to me and say the signed consent doesn't allow me to speak on the clients behalf. Then why have several Synergy people told me to submit consent forms so that I can speak on my clients behalf - its a legally binding document signed by the account holder giving me permission.
Make your minds up Synergy, your customer service is shockingly cr@p!!

$4600 bill what the? You won't help me find out why it's so high, but will charge me an extra $366 to check if your meter is faulty. I asked you if you could investigate the bill and all your worker is a smart arse and says okay and I find out nothing is looked at and I'm just stuck with the bill. $4600 you have to be joking? I feel stuck because the people I rent from have had their friends a plumber and an electrician come out and said things are okay??? What am I meant to do, if I don't have electricity I can't pump my water to the house. I don't know what to do, but the last bill was $1060, I can't keep getting these unbelievable bills. Stressed and not sure what to do

Synergy encourages us all to be environmentally aw...

Synergy encourages us all to be environmentally aware and reduce our power bills by installing solar energy, they then screw us with a 7.3c /kwhr unit on power we export, they sell this to someone else for the full unit price of more than 20c /kwhr unit.
Now to add insult to injury they are dropping the feed in tariff to half ! Oh but increasing it at peak times to 10c just when the sun is going down so we get screwed again.
Shame on you Synergy, heads should roll, but no you will keep paying the bean counters and executives massive wages to find more ways to screw us. And yes after investing a substantial amount in solar I am angry.

After receiving my latest bill telling me I had an outstanding bill from the last billing cycle I checked my bank details and there it was, paid. Even paid extra. After ringing them I was told to contact missing payments which I did. I have provided them with proof of payment but yet still claim the bill was not paid and will cut my power off on the 20th April if not paid by then. Great service guys. If I could give a negative star review I would.

If I could give a negative star review I would.

First off, we pay our bills on time and this time was no different. So it s not a payment issue.

So our power was cut because they mistook us for the evicted tenant next door. A Synergy employee came in asked us if we were unit 6, we replied yes. He hands us a sheet to advise our power will be cut and 30 seconds later our power goes out, with him in no sight to flag down.

We then call Synergy immediately and advise of what has happened as our bills have always been paid on time - just a note we are a small business whose livelihoods and our employees rely on the business running. The lady on the phone advises it must have been a mistake and was meant for the tenant next door - who out of all 7 other tenants is closed by the way, dead giveaway into who hasn t been paying or is the reason why they re not in operation.

She then tells us as standard procedure it takes 48 HOURS to get the power back when it took them LESS THAN 30 SECONDS to cut our power. But you know everything is A-OKAY cause they can compensate and this kind of mistake happens ALL THE TIME. Is that not something as a company you should perhaps, improve the communication between your employees and Western Power so it doesn t happen all the time .

About another 3 calls in to all different workers which are all apologetic (scripted) but you know they don t really care because they re not the ones who have to pay workers, lose customers, degrade business reputation, lose money etc. But they can understand .

Every business has procedures but should you not take care into whose power you are cutting off and make sure 110% they are the correct people/business. Simply identifying the house/unit number and not the business name itself is so simple.

Monetary compensation isn t always enough when you are a small business. Our income is reliant on what happens with our business not just regarding whether we re open or not, but our reputation and our customers.

Not good enough.

Hi I real need help if someone plz could. Happen to me twice with two previous properties i lived in that my final bill is unbelivably High. Usual Bill every two month is arround $250 to $350+ but never more then $390 But final bill on both ocasions is some $1300 to $1800 i paid the first one when i moved out because the lady over the phone was very aggressive and said previous bills were estimated and this is the actuall reading. they estimated for the whole year ? what a joke . I am not willing to pay this time though its completely unfair that no one does anything about it . Any Legal help will be really apriciated as i myself cant do anything they will not turn it down and i cant convience them that using the same aplinces the bill cant be 4 times higher then normal.

Poorest service around and yet we are stuck with no choice, Customer Service/Complaints - Hayley needs to learn exactly what her role should take, instead of her fake investigation and cutting off small businesses who have paid their bills on time, just not processed on their online portal for over 7 days, utterly disgusting attitude to what we are referred to as customers, if I ran my business this way, I wouldn't have one. end of the day just paper shifters who go to work to get paid and go home and offer no actual carefactor. Furthermore disconnected power to someone registered on the heart machine, and told its insufficient, Even though we have it on at all properties.

Synergy is a monopoly, they charge pretty much wha...

Synergy is a monopoly, they charge pretty much what they like, and that's a lot, and West Australians just have to put up with it. I spent some time on the phone querying my bill which remains pretty much the same despite installing a very expensive solar array.

All the advice advocated by those who wish to reduce their carbon footprint, like delay using power hungry devices such as, water heaters, washing machines, dishwashers etc until the off peak hours makes no difference. If you are on the A1 plan, which appears to be the default, your rate is 23cents per unit 24 hours a day.

The "Smart plan," for those who wish to wish to make a difference to their carbon footprint, can get a cheaper "off peak" rate but will have to pay 47cents a unit until the "peak rate" kicks in.

Synergy representatives should be wearing a mask and carrying a gun! Where's the competition!

When my husband died in June he had more than $300 in credit. I finalised his account and organised the payment of his final bill. I asked for the balance to b refunded but was told unless I could produce paperwork naming me as executor. I explained he died intestate and I am his next of kin as we were married 42 yrs and was told they would issue a cheq. I rang again in Sept and was told I just had to wait. I rang again in Nov and was told there was no record of my refund request and ut could take up to a year. Not bad enough losing my husband and having to move I now have to wait and $368 is a lot of money to me and they dont pay interest either. Time the ombudsman noted some of these reviews from unhappy customers

DO NOT PUT YOUR ELECTRICITY BILL ON DIRECT DEBIT! ...

DO NOT PUT YOUR ELECTRICITY BILL ON DIRECT DEBIT! I was paying a $250 per month in to my Synergy account as had a $1,000 dollar credit. The next thing I knew I had been debited an additional $4,995 from my account. This money was for my mortgage repayment. I also have a brain aneurysm so it is miraculous that when I returned back home, after caring for my father with cancer and looked in the letterbox to see that Synergy had kindly caught up payments for the past 18 months due to bill estimations, which is apparently my fault even though Synergy had been out twice a year earlier to view my meter nothing was done about it then, nor was I notified?! So it was a wonder I did not have a stroke and die on the spot after reading that bill. I rang them and told them they have used my home loan repayment to pay a bulk electricity account from 2 years prior and thrown me in to financial hardship as I am also not working. I stated that I should have been given the opportunity pay that amount off over 18 months as the law stipulates but because I have a direct debit I apparently have no rights and Synergy holds all the cards. I thought Bill shock was also illegal? Anyway, it's with the ombudsman now as Synergy's complaints department simply said to me " Oh well because you agreed to a direct debit facility we can take what we wanted because you did not ring us to stop it (because I was away,) "that is your bad luck" said Synergy "and Synergy will not be refunding you any money either because we are protected by the direct debit authority you agreed to." I then said "so it is too bad so sad, you don't care?" and the guy James said "pretty much yeah, Synergy will not be refunding you any money," you are welcome togo to the Ombudsman, here is their number. Shame on you Synergy what a bunch of inadequate administrators you are! Why did you not resolve this two years ago? You have had people out to my property to look at my meter? Now for your error and mismanagement of the billing (because I have no control over that) I am the one that has to suffer from your extremely poor processes. You would think with a bill like $5,995 for a domestic household someone would have called but when you are on direct debit you are not treated better like a loyal client you are treated with a "Gothca" clause with no duty of care whatsoever for the client! I repeat DO NOT GO ON DIRECT DEBIT! It is also interesting how I did I get the ridiculously enormous bill that could pay a whole street electricity account after I went on direct debit! Something crooked is going on there and I will ensure you are fully investigated and if this "gotcha" clause of yours in your direct debit facility which basically allows you to draw however much you want from my account whenever you want is also hurting others, I will promise you that your fine print bullshit is fully exposed via social media and will ensure you are exposed for the unethical company that you are.

I am a single person living in a 1 bedroom unit, I generally keep off all of my lights and powerpoints to save money on bills and the only thing consistently running through the week is the fridge. Neighbouring units bills are $50 for the billing period or $80 at the most whereas mine is $200? Is anyone else having these same issues with Synergy and how can it be resolved because as a single person working and supporting myself I cannot afford for this to continue. When I contacted synergy and explained my neighbours bills are lower they said maybe I have a faulty appliance and not to compare bills with neighbours as my neighbour may be entitled to a rebate which I know she is not. I have been overcharged by hundreds of dollars above my usual bill payments. When I enquired I was told that the metre reader 'estimated' the usage based on the previous reading because I had a dog.
Problem is, I don't have a dog.
Next problem is that I am a new tenant.
I went through the review process, and they still found that I owed the money.
I found the people I dealt with had a conviction in their own perceptions and procedures that was superior and judgemental, and I believe this this them to lose their ability to think
I am on the pension, and have had on long argument with Synergy about this since it happened.
I am now struggling to pay the debt, and am being harassed by lawyers.
A really unpleasant and bullying company, all done in the nicest possible way, of course.

Terrible customer service and terrible internal systems. They are actually making me pay for someone else's electricity because of an error on their online systems. This is why monopolies are bad.

Spent over 25 minutes on the phone, 4 different people and departments, even transferred us off to western power who didn't know why we were talking to them when all we needed was a new account. Tried applying online kept getting error messages. Absolutely useless! The customer service ladies were nice, but unable to help.

I also have a brain aneurysm so it is miraculous that when I returned back home, after caring for my father with cancer and looked in the letterbox to see that Synergy had kindly caught up payments for the past 18 months due to bill estimations, which is apparently my fault even though Synergy head been out twice a year earlier to view my meter nothing was done about it then, nor was I notified?! Anyway, it's with the ombudsman now but there complaints department simply said to me " Oh well because you agreed to a direct debit facility we can take what we wanted because you did not ring us to stop it (because I was away,) "that is your bad luck" said Synergy "and Synergy will not be refunding you any money either because we are protected by the direct debit authority you agreed to." I then said "so it is too bad so sad, you don't care?" and the guy James said "pretty much yeah, Synergy will not be refunding you any money," you are welcome togo to the Ombudsman, here is their number.
