They gave us a penthouse (top floor) room with a King, as reserved. The air conditioner was super old but worked perfectly. The room was spacious and unbeatable for the price, and the bathroom was good too. Be aware that the elevator is small and scary. They ought to post the permit. I'd stay here again for sure. Nice folks and they kept our bags after we checked out.

This is not what you would expect from a 4 star hotel. Like other reviews, yes, the staff are courteous and do a good job. The location is also great; close to the park, shopping, and Broadway. However, the rooms are awful, dirty, and falling apart!
*Before getting to my review of the room, I wanted to add that we valet checked our car and they left trash inside upon us picking it up at checkout ( a drink bottle and pen).
The Room:
This was the smallest room in which we've ever stayed in NYC, barely fitting the queen sized bed. The carpets were dirty and scrunched up in spots, the curtains were stained, the bathroom floors were stained, shower mirror looked rusted, and the walls had cracks and chunks missing. The bathroom door lock was literally a piece of bent scrap metal that would latch over the door, leaving about a half inch gap between the door and frame. The towels were sand paper too.
A light fixture was being held together with packing tape, the window was broken and off the track, and so dirty you could barely see out of it. Also, it too had tape all over the top which appeared to be holding a part of it together. Since the window was off balance/track, noise carried straight through, so I was kept up all night by typical NYC noise that would typically be dampened by a proper window.
There are zero ammenenties inside the room aside from a tv and radio. No coffee maker, microwave, or mini fridge. The armoire had a funky smell upon first opening the doors, and one of the lamps were burnt out. The AC unit had a grinding metal sound too.
The bed, although mostly comfortable, had 4 pillows all of varying density (one was a feather pillow, and the others were regular fiber fill that ranged from soft to rock solid).
This should not be labeled as a 4 star hotel, because it is in serious need of repair and upgrades.

This was the worse experience at a hotel. First off, we called from the airport about two hours before arriving at the hotel, asking for a crib to be in the room when we got there and they said it would be. We arrive and there is no crib in the room and we had to call the front desk again about the crib being delivered. The room was extremely small, nothing like any of the pictures shown on the website. The bathroom was tiny and it was hard to close and open the door because the toilet was so close. The bathroom looked like they had taken the decor from a local jail. The bathroom door was not able to close due to a weak magnet being the only thing that held it closed. We called maintenance about it and all he said was that we should close the door very slowly to get the magnet to latch. Needless to say, you have no privacy when you're in the bathroom. The television looked like they plugged their cable into a neighbors cable box. It was absolutely terrible, all channels had a "snow" on them and the remote worked only occasionally. We also pointed this out to maintenance and he said that they'd check it out. It never got better. The bed was curved in the middle, so you were perpetually sleeping in an inclined position, rendering it impossible to sleep on your side or stomach. The windows were so thin that you could hear people on the street talking from 6 floors up, and hear the rowdy hotel bar crowd screaming. They were painting the building while we were there and the smell of paint inside the room was nauseating. The building is quite old, and not in the cool way. My husband went downstairs to get some plastic cups because they were never replenished when the room was cleaned and they told him they would send some up, it never happened so i called down and they had someone bring some up and he basically threw the cups at me. No coffee pot, but you could order a pot for like 9 or 10 bucks, no microwave, no fridge. We ended up checking out early, forfeiting money that we'd paid for the whole week because it was so terrible.

The hotel is great, 4 stars because our heater didnt seem to be working in the middle of winter. Literally slept in our winter jackets lol and the water never got hotter than lukewarm in the shower... but other than that everything else was good. Friendly staff, comfy bed, good location.

The security in the surrounding area was good, and I could stay at ease even if traveling alone.
Good location, I thought it was convenient and affordable for shopping and sightseeing. However, please be careful because there is no refrigerator and a dryer in the room. It was difficult to understand how to use the shower, and when I told the front desk that the shower did not come out, the engineer came to the room and explained.
It was an early morning check out, but the staff made it easy. In addition, Uber waiting for me to come along waiting for me to come out together, told me that it would be good to check the model and get on, even after getting in, some of the kind staff who saw me off until I ran away Yes. It has become one of NY's unforgettable memories.

Absolute worst hotel I ve been in due to early morning drilling and grinding right outside my window for the past 3 days now.. really small not even a break for the noisy construction the vibration was moving things in the room due to the drilling and grinding that was all around my window I was woken up several times! NO fridge no milk no coffee maker not even usb points to charge your phone! No microwave 1 chair for for a 2 bedroom room doesn t make sense! Absolutely TRAGIC! Not to mention I left something valuable to me under my pillows as something I always do and now they are gone thrown away not even left on the table or bench just thrown away like it was nothing I don t understand why they would do such a thing! The only good thing was the manners from one guy at the front desk! Avoid this place like the plague! Also this morning I ve found bed bugs in my sheets and have multiple marks on my body from then I ve take. Photos

If you roam midtown, the location near 55th St & 5th Ave seems to be among the best.
The nearest subway stations are at 53rd and 57th Streets and within walking distance of MoMA and Central Park.
Of course, if 5th Ave is at the end of the eyes and nose, we can guarantee some security.
It was chosen as the Best Boutique Hotel of NYC in the 00's, but it seems that the price tends to fall, probably because the fashionable hotel is now crowded in all areas of Manhattan.
In 2006, I made the most of the coffee machine in the lobby and the built-in desktop PC, but now it may be fatal that the Wi-Fi can not be connected in the room because of the Wi-Fi era.
Since I stayed at Thanksgiving, I was able to take advantage of the location and good things such as passing a parade near by.
By the way, Abercrombie at 56th St & 5th Ave is a crowd of Kuroyama, I feel the time.

4 star hotel very well located, in the middle of Manhattan very close to central parck. Very austere exterior room and spartan bathroom, no furniture bar (in fact it is empty and unplugged) windows and very old carpet, the window does not close because it can not be opened, stumbles with the curtain, accumulates crap and does not allow to close. Interior room very noisy. Neither a shoehorn nor comb or shower gel ... saves your good situation.

Central location very interesting. Not up to the 4 stars, rather small rooms, poorly supplied (example: clothes hangers, bedside tables). At the reception they are very kind, first and foremost Mrs. Anna helped to improve our stay.

My husband and I stayed at this hotel between July...
My husband and I stayed at this hotel between July 1-2, 2017. Our room was reasonably priced and clean. Annie, the front desk clerk who checked us in and out was professional and friendly. The bellboy, however, (a slender man who appeared to be of South Asian descent) was very rude. When my husband kindly told him that we will manage carrying our luggage by ourself he refused to let us and said that only he is authorized to push to the luggage cart. We complied and let him do his job but given his attitude, we did not tip him. The next morning, upon our checkout, we discovered a huge crack on the windshield of our car. To make matters worse, when this was addressed with Francisco (the parking attendant) he advised us that there is nothing we can do as it was a Sunday and there was no manager on site to complete a incident report. He made absolutely no effort to document the incident nor did he provide us with any means for filing a complaint ourselves. He took a few pictures of the damage and claimed that he will "talk to his manager about it" and advised us to return the following day despite being told we do not live in USA and coming back is not an option.
The following day, we managed to get in touch with Oscar, the manager, who had the nerve to tell my husband the car was damaged PRIOR to being checked in by the valet. He stated 'You must have hit a rock or something'. This was not only insulting but a complete disregard for our property and claim. My husband reminded Oscar that while we understand that minor scratches and bumps are a possibility when a vehicle is left with Valet, INTENTIONAL DAMAGE, that resembles a punch to a windshield resulting in a long crack is another story. Oscar then insulted us some more and told us that we will have to return to the hotel and address the issue in person with the owner. He claims that Francisco did not share any pictures with him and asserted that the hotel will not be held be responsible anyway. At one point during the conversation, we overheard Oscar speaking with other staff stating 'Everyday is something new', leading us to believe we may not have been the first to have this type of experience. And while we have no proof that the slender bell boy who we didn't tip is responsible for the damage to the car, we can't help but wonder if this is the reason why it happen. Up until this experience, we would have been happy to return to the Shoreham, but after the treatment we received following this incident, we will not be returning and would like to remind all visitors to be extra cautious before checking their vehicles with valet and to also be very very careful to tip EVERYONE, even if they are rude because not doing so may result in an experience similar to ours, if not worse!!

3.7 stars seems accurate. Location is really great (close to many subway lines, Times Square, 5th ave, Central Park), the staff was helpful and friendly too. For a new York hotel , the room was pretty spacious (and tidy) which was a nice surprise! Two issues I had was 1) no free WiFi in the room (like $13/day) and 2) water pressure was so weak and also the temperature of their hot water wasn t warm enough for me. So taking a shower was stressful for me. Not sure if anyone else had the same issue with me on the shower, but to me that was definitely not a good experience.

By far one of the worst places I have ever stayed at. I really would of not complained if it was just the bad beds, dirty drawers and carpet. The fact that housekeeping went through my things makes me give them a 1 star. I wish I could put 0. They stole my wallet with my debit cards and ID and to top it all off they even took my kids birth certificates. Since we didn't use that wallet unfortunately we didn't notice until check out time. I've stayed in many states and even counties not once has this happened. I strongly suggest to be careful booking here and save yourselves a headache. Beware of the thieves at this location.

Good things: location, they helped us call the transfer to the airport and they speak Spanish.
Bad things: poor cleaning (snot sticking to the shower curtain). IF YOU WANT WIFI IN THE ROOM IT IS 15 DOLLARS A NIGHT. I have not turned on the TV in case they charge me too.
I can't comment on the breakfast because I didn't try it.

This hotel is in a very convenient part of town and provides guests easy access to midtown business and attractions including Central Park, Times Square, Rockefeller Center and etc. The price point is also a good note.
I found my room to be very clean and even though the rooms seemed a bit older they did not appear to be beat up or over used.
A point to note for those who haven t stayed in hotels that are in older buildings in New your such as this one. If you end up with an interior room like I did there will not be much natural light since there are only very small windows.

We had a nice stay at The Shoreham hotel despite the fact that the rooms are very small, elevators are outdated and shaky and the building is old. On the plus side the hotel is very close to central park and times square and many other New York attractions. Also this hotel is more affordable compared to other hotels in the area.

Upon check-in, they did not receive my reservation details from Expedia. I had to wait an hour in the lobby at 12:45 in the middle of the night. Hotels are meant to go and rest up. I had to wait an hour and a half to get into my room. I was not told that parking next door in the lot is not free, in the morning I was hit with a $54 bill for parking overnight. The lady in the front desk, Elizabeth Ramirez was very rude and arrogant. After asking for an explanation on the parking fee, she kept repeating, "Parking isn't free, parking isn't free". Customers deserve a better explanation than repeating the same sentence over and over. I'm sure Shoreham doesn't want their reputation to be that way. Elizabeth Ramirez needs some serious customer service coaching..

I had to stay at this hotel for more than a month after a flood in my apartment made it uninhabitable. Yes the rooms and the bathroom are small, but in NY, who stays in the room all day? The hotel is within walking distance of major cultural institutions like MoMA, Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center. And there is Central Park. There are restaurants in the neighborhood for all price points. There is free delicious coffee when you get off the elevator to go for breakfast or not. If you stay for more than a day or three, you can negotiate a better room rate. The people who work in the hotel are very pleasant and leave you alone. It is also nice and quiet at all hours. Great shopping is all around. Uniqlo to Bergdorfs. Close to all subways and buses.

Stayed for a night. Reasonable price in a decent location. Surprisingly not even a fridge in the room. Very basic if you need a place to crash. Oddly enough we arrived 2 hours before check-in, just to drop the bags, and they told us that out room was clean and ready but we could pay an addition $100 to get access to it. We declined, but it's the first time I've been told them room is ready but asked to pay to get it!

The positive
The hotel is ideally located: 5 minutes walk from a subway station, 10 minutes walk from Times Square, 7 minutes from Central Park; 2 minutes from Trump tower, 1 minute from 5th avenue.
At the bar, the staff filled us with fresh water bottles in the morning. It was very appreciable.
The negative
We were disillusioned upon our arrival in the room. Located on the east side on the 3rd floor, the room overlooked an interior courtyard just in front and at the height of a huge wind tunnel ...... VERY NOISY! Also, the bathroom was tiny .... just enough space for the vanity!
We came as a group. We went back down to let our guide know. Impossible to change rooms, we had to wait until the next day.
Chaotic first night: impossible to sleep! Our son got up at 4 am asking if he could go to sleep on the sofas in the lobby !!!!!!!
First shower ... not better ... the water stagnated in the bathtub .... had to wait a bit between two showers!
In short, in the morning we went to ask to change rooms. The receptionist asked us to pack our bags. At noon we exceptionally returned to the hotel to make the transfer. We ran into an ADORABLE receptionist who spoke French. At the head of my son, she understood that we had not slept. It was not possible to make the transfer because the rooms were not ready. Everything had to be gathered in the room and it was the staff who would make the transfer. We checked in and left relieved that we could sleep at night. ....
When we got back we got our old room. We made a scandal. The receptionist, who did not speak French, remained implacable. In short, he did not care! Needless to say, we didn't get much sleep and even with earplugs.
The next morning, we saw the French receptionist (Diane we believe). She asked us to get our suitcases down right away and transferred us from room at 9 am! Incomparable: located on the west side, on the 7th floor, it still overlooked the inner courtyard but the noise was very tolerable. The bathroom was twice the size!
This room available from 9 am seems to indicate that the hotel could have given us this room the night before ..... we had however been told that the hotel was full!
Another family in the group (on the second floor) had also complained about the noise and that she could not sleep but as she did not make a scandal she had to endure the noise until the end since she did not has not changed rooms.
In short, a feeling of having had the most rotten rooms in the hotel, like Ernesty 78's comment. Should we avoid this hotel as soon as we arrive in a group. Several families actually had the column to avoid: 209 - 309 (our room) - 409.
Finally, the breakfast was not 4 star. No bread, just slices of sandwich bread. The pastry was soft, the fruits in the fruit salad were hard.
In short, if you go to this hotel avoid the east side and especially rooms 209, 309 and 409.
Thank you to this receptionist who really took care of us.

We stayed here over the New Year period and it was a great location- very central and just off 5th Avenue. Closest subway station was 57th Street. Close walk to Rockefeller Centre and Times Square. The reception staff were friendly, especially Danny but, the rooms were not fantastic.
The rooms were quite small and the lighting in the rooms was terrible. The heater kept making terrible noises and was not working properly.
The lifts were not great- there were only two and they were tiny so you had to wait for ages for one.
Was good for a short trip but wouldn't stay there again.
