Dominique Dupard Review of Shoreham Hotel Group
Definitely not a 4 star
Definitely not a 4 star
The positive
The hotel is ideally located: 5 minutes walk from a subway station, 10 minutes walk from Times Square, 7 minutes from Central Park; 2 minutes from Trump tower, 1 minute from 5th avenue.
At the bar, the staff filled us with fresh water bottles in the morning. It was very appreciable.
The negative
We were disillusioned upon our arrival in the room. Located on the east side on the 3rd floor, the room overlooked an interior courtyard just in front and at the height of a huge wind tunnel ...... VERY NOISY! Also, the bathroom was tiny .... just enough space for the vanity!
We came as a group. We went back down to let our guide know. Impossible to change rooms, we had to wait until the next day.
Chaotic first night: impossible to sleep! Our son got up at 4 am asking if he could go to sleep on the sofas in the lobby !!!!!!!
First shower ... not better ... the water stagnated in the bathtub .... had to wait a bit between two showers!
In short, in the morning we went to ask to change rooms. The receptionist asked us to pack our bags. At noon we exceptionally returned to the hotel to make the transfer. We ran into an ADORABLE receptionist who spoke French. At the head of my son, she understood that we had not slept. It was not possible to make the transfer because the rooms were not ready. Everything had to be gathered in the room and it was the staff who would make the transfer. We checked in and left relieved that we could sleep at night. ....
When we got back we got our old room. We made a scandal. The receptionist, who did not speak French, remained implacable. In short, he did not care! Needless to say, we didn't get much sleep and even with earplugs.
The next morning, we saw the French receptionist (Diane we believe). She asked us to get our suitcases down right away and transferred us from room at 9 am! Incomparable: located on the west side, on the 7th floor, it still overlooked the inner courtyard but the noise was very tolerable. The bathroom was twice the size!
This room available from 9 am seems to indicate that the hotel could have given us this room the night before ..... we had however been told that the hotel was full!
Another family in the group (on the second floor) had also complained about the noise and that she could not sleep but as she did not make a scandal she had to endure the noise until the end since she did not has not changed rooms.
In short, a feeling of having had the most rotten rooms in the hotel, like Ernesty 78's comment. Should we avoid this hotel as soon as we arrive in a group. Several families actually had the column to avoid: 209 - 309 (our room) - 409.
Finally, the breakfast was not 4 star. No bread, just slices of sandwich bread. The pastry was soft, the fruits in the fruit salad were hard.
In short, if you go to this hotel avoid the east side and especially rooms 209, 309 and 409.
Thank you to this receptionist who really took care of us.
