I am happy to report that the hotel now has refrigerators in every room (at least mine)! Yes, it is an older property (1912), but it is remodeled, the rooms and bathrooms are spacious and updated, beds are comfortable, and the A/C worked perfectly in 118-degree F heat. The restaurants are pleasant, the pool looked like fun, and happy hour in the bar saved money. I like how the hotel displays its fascinating history in captioned pictures in the hallway near one restaurant. I'd stay there again, and am planning to!
Didn t have a pleasant experience here. It started with the elevator, the doors would open and close over and over we ended up getting off and using the stairs. We had a standard two queen bed room that had a musty smell to it, the bathroom floor looked dirty, the toilet wasn t working, and was wet all around the toilet seat. We ultimately decided not to stay. When we checked out, which was about 15 minutes after we checked in, we weren t asked if there was anything wrong or if we could work out another room. I mean, I get it.. we didn t ask, but from a service standpoint you d think they d ask what happened at least. Oh well..
Very nice old hotel, good rooms, pool and garden. Street next to it is very active at night
It was good. I didn't hate it. It feels a bit old but that's what historical hotels do.
Manager at front desk was very friendly and helpful. Room was pretty nice.
affordably and competively priced hotel ($90 plus resort fee and tax) as compared to the places in phoenix and scottsdale. hotel had a great mix of modern amenities (nice beds, sheets, decor, bathrooms, TV's, clock) with grounds that were relaxed, spacious and harkened to a more relaxed spacious time. Pool, jacuzzi and deck was very large with dozens of lounge chairs and several umbrella covered tables and chairs. Very easy to find a quiet private spot at pool area. Salt pools were suprisingly warm in the middle of the summer and jacuzzi was not much warmer than pool which was suprising. Main lobby had class. Cool old car on display, piano in the lounge, flavored water and several today's newspapers available. The grounds were messy from monson that blew through and took 12-18 hours to be cleaned. Some room service dishes were left in hallways for several hours. Overall My wife was pleased. She'd like to return the San Marcos perhaps on our next Staycation. Sam
Well kept historic hotel in downtown Chandler. Nice pool and court yard areas. Friendly staff
Historic Inn, built in 1912. Great history and the property feels new and relevant. Fun lobby bar and great breakfast. Didn't try lunch or dinner. The room was spacious with a nice balcony. The bathroom could use an update. Would stay there again!
Hello slum lord. As a single female being placed at the outskirts of the motel was the first concern. (check local crime rates). Looking over their trailer park at first dawn is amazing. Oh and having to force my door shut by means I am not accustomed (kicking, pushing shoving). Having a "resort" advertisement and paying top-dollar, but then having "carla" in a smirky voice tell me they're fully booked (parking lot is about 10% full) and couldn't possibly have a room that's in an area where it has electrical functions (charge my phone). Although it does not seem to be unclean, I would prefer somewhere more accommodating.
Rooms are nice and staff is pleasant and professional
This place used to be such an amazing property. I have stayed here for 10 years consecutivelyevery August. This year the elevator bottomed out on us and we fell from the 3rd floor to the 1st. Gladly no one was injured. After that we booked with Home 2 Suites.
This is an eye catching hotel in downtown Chandler. I stayed here for two days four years ago, and swung by to check on anything new. I believe this hotel is better now than in September 2014. The lobby of this hotel is really quite stunning.
Stayed here for a week. Had to kill more than a few little critters in my room, they need to get an exterminator in. Slow internet and the rooms were not the cleanest. I will definetly stay someplace else when I come back to PHX. Only good part was the location with lots of breweries and reataraunts around.
We recently planned a family reunion and arranged to for all the out of town guest to stay at San Marcos. It worked out so great as the location is excellent! "Downtown Chandler" restaurants/bars are walking distance and so we were able to go off site for an 80th birthday party and the guests could walk to the event. We also had an event at the San Marcos one night at their more casual restaurant. The staff were all very pleasant and helpful and we would all go back again. The only reason I did not give 5 stars is because the pool itself could use a little face lift...this is Arizona!!
We spent one night at Plaza Resort San Marcos Golf Resort in early December to celebrate our anniversary. We had a lovely, very large suite that was beautifully decorated. Small touches such as stationery supplies at the writing desk and fresh flowers were very nice. - we really enjoyed...
The balcony rooms facing Commonwealth street have dirty sliding glass windows, massive cobwebs, paint chipping, the eves of the roofs need massive repairs and paint, the balconies have wasp nest or mud dobber nest. Not a good representation.
Went yo the BBQ and Beer Fest. Tons of different food booths and very fun to visit. Great day.
We were here two years ago and really enjoyed our stay.....this last time was even better. Really enjoyed our stay. Room was clean, breakfast in room was delicious. Property was kept beautifully.
Where do I even begin. We stayed here this weekend, 6/28 to 6/30 and I am not sure how this is called a resort from the run down accommodations to the pool tiles falling off I am at loss. And not sure if there is even house keeping, we were gone all day and when we returned at almost 5 pm room was stil dirty so we took out our own trash and threw all our dirty towels outside our door. The real topper for the stay was the mouse size cockroach my wife found in the bathroom. During checkout I let the front desk now about all of this and they said they would give me 5,000 rewards points, geee thanks for those points that I will never use .
rates were a bit high...
The room was ok, needs were comfortable and clean, bathrooms were not as clean.
Nice venue... management staff could be more accommodating. They closed down a section of the hotel earlier and would not budge on any special requests.
Took a tour to see if this was a good place for wedding guests. Employees were very nice. The rooms were nice but some seemed a little dated.
The staff were very HELPFUL & PROFESSIONAL!!!! Would recommend anyone to enjoy a stay there... Great place!
Such an amazing staff! Great hotel! If I'm ever visiting again I'll always go to here.
Beautiful grounds, incredibly friendly and courteous staff, clean rooms, comfortable beds, everything I look for in a hotel.
Very friendley Crew who makes a super Job. The Roms are clean. Only air condition is to loud.
I was overjoyed at the experience provided here, the staff was amazing and helped out with everything we needed, the setting was beautiful, and the experience was an evening to remember.
Disappointing. Lobby reeks of cigarettes smoke. Rooms are dated. Kitty-did somewhere in the room made it impossible to sleep. On the plus side, great linens. Spacious and small touches such as lavender spray for your pillow. Bottles of water, nice large desk. Comfortable sofa. Bottom line, over-priced.
Always came to clean at a reasonable time. Shuttle to where I had to go always left on time. The breakfast is delicious.
Super nice hotel with a nice atmosphere. Also located very close to a great selection of restaurants.
Love this place. I stay there everytime I feel lile spending the night in Chandler. It's right next to all the bars, breweries and restaurants of DT Chandler.
Love this hotel...nicely located in downtown. Restaurants, shopping and bars nearby.
Very confident and nice people. I ran into no issues.
Absolutely loved this place, location is also perfect! Room where clean, views we great and the hotel staff were all very friendly. We even checked out and had to go back 7 hrs later due to we left some money in the room and they were more then happy to go look and get it for us and it was all still there. Very honest hotel we will definitely be using this as our staycation location for now on and will be telling family that visit us here to stay at this location. Thank you for making our weekend get away so relaxing..

This is an older hotel. The elevators are small, and while we were there, they constantly broke. The location is a bit far from Phoenix. There are several restaurants that are walking distance from the hotel. The building where you check in is lovely. It would be a nice place for a wedding.
I was very upset about multiple issues with this hotel. The $15 breakfast (which we weren't informed about in advance) and I normally wouldn't spend $5 for it. It was supposed to be available from 7 AM to 11 AM yet they broke it down before 9 AM. Next - I returned to my room last night to find that my key card wouldn't work. I tried to call the front desk and got no answer (apparently they were having a phone malfunction). I finally reached someone at corporate headquarters and they were able to get ahold of someone but gave them the wrong room number. So, I stood (no benches or seats in the central courtyard) for 45 minutes with my to go food getting cold and needing to use the facilities. BTW I'm disabled and it was very hot out. The fridge froze everything I put in it and didn't have a microwave until we specifically requested it. I'm here with a family member who is in hospice and not expected to live much longer so I really didn't need more stress. Here are my last 2 gripes - towels feel like sandpaper and TV has limited channels and many keep losing the signal.
The one positive is that most staff members are very pleasant.
It was once a great resort.. Hope they can restore it to its former glory some day. Just about everything other than the lobby needs a face-lift. The elevator needs some serious repair... Bumpy ride, door randomly opens and closes, funky smells. Good value for the price.
Staff is friendly, rooms are older and are in need of a renovation. A variety of restaurants around with all types of cuisine.
AC sounded like a jet engine. Other than that, pretty alright.
Was there for bridge tourney. Venue sucked due to tent used as playing area.
AC broke twice during stay. Bar was boring AF but pours were stiff. Wouldn't stay here again. Chandler is boring.
It was a very beautiful Historic Hotel. I only visited the conference center but the decor was very nice, the hallways were pleasant and the staff members that i spoke to were very willing to help.
Built in 1912, this is a resort hotel with a nice main lobby. There is a bar, an indoor driving range, and a salon if its needed. The rooms are separate from the main property and kind of feels like an old apartment building. But they are still nice.
I want to love this place that rests in the perfect location of charming downtown Chandler, Arizona. At first glance it is beautiful, historic and the outside terrace/patio area is seemingly inviting and draws you in. Seemingly inviting. The well maintained front of the hotel boasts charm with guest seating and plenty of area to relax with family. Either well maintained or maybe it is rather unused purposely. With original architecture of breezy archways, inviting lush landscape and greenery that is front of the hotel, you can t help but find yourself entranced in the idea of exploring this seemingly historic gem. With the hotel s richness in history, you would think that the San Marcos Hotel is vital to Downtown Chandler history and everyday visitors and curious tourists of all ages would be normalcy at this Ihg resort. . After all, Downtown Chandler has always taken pride in its friendliness and exceptional hospitality not only to tourists, but to its own community as well. I was rather surprised to witness the staff at the San Marcos Resort In definite need of brushing up on some hospitality and common courtesy. The outside of the resort from the front is sunny, welcoming and delightful until a staff member approaches or walks by you. They instantly bring on the rain. A looming cloud of depression then follows you on the grounds of this resort and an incredibly surprising cold front runs through the halls and interior as you pass by San Marcos resort employees . They make it a point to make you feel that you are bothering them with your presence and they d rather you just walk to the Hilton next door and not be bothered. The staff is short with you upon arrival and short with you amongst your stay. You will receive exactly a room that you paid for but don t expect anyone to make you feel like a welcomed guest or go out of their way for you. You ll get a clean basic room that has a remarkably comfortable bed, clean basic towels and a TV that turns on properly. I d advise you not to need extra linens unless you want to again, deal with staff that is irritated that you approached them and need something. The pool area is well maintained, clean and a comfortable place to relax. The grounds in the center of the resort to the exterior could use a serious update, however, it is not hideous. I do recommend using stairs if you have a room on an upper level. The elevators are apparently not well maintained and work sporadically. My son went to use the elevator and it quit working in between floors. My son was trapped in the elevator for a very long time in the heat before anyone would answer his emergency call for help from the elevator phone. My husband was unfortunately injured rescuing our son from the elevator and it s odd the staff was difficult to convince to take an incident report. Strange.
Again, the front of the resort is gorgeous and it s worth exploring, the pool is lovely and well maintained, the inside reservations area seems inviting until you meet staff. The inside restaurant is beautiful, airy and has a generous sized menu. The 1912 lounge is gorgeous as well and Katie will actually make you a spectacular cocktail. Definitely worth stopping in for. But be careful not to let children guest walk around the resort and enjoy freely like other resorts. My sons were aggressively approached by management and harassed about being on resort property looking around. My kids were too frightened to speak up to the manager lady and let her be aware that she must have them mixed up with non resort guests, however, i wonder what why any child would be harassed over simply walking through a public resort common area? So maybe a little brush up on hospitality for the staff would be a great start. I think with a bit of training, perhaps a few cocktails in the 1912 lounge , the staff might be able to make a more pleasant impression on future guests. Again, I want to love this place!
Location is near Downtown Chandler that is home to several restaurants and shops. There is plenty of parking near rooms. Staff was friendly and helpful. Rooms are large with updated furniture. Room was clean but it's in the small details you see the building age. The AC in our room was loud when it was running but it did keep the room cool. Bathroom was clean but some of the fixtures are showing their age. Overall I had a quiet, restful night and would stay again.
Staff was amazingly helpful and friendly. Food was goo and the old wooden piano they let me jam on took me back. Having a great time here. Thanks staff. Oh and the pool is sweet. Especially with this heat.
Everything was very good and very nice thank you very much
Love this place for staycations. Great pool, awesome location.
The room was clean and well kept. The customer service from the front desk and room service was impeccable.
Was here for a wedding and the place was pretty amazing. I would say a great place for other weddings.
Great stay! We were actually unhappy with the room at first, but they sent a bellman to our room to give us keys to a new room. Much better! Great pool and hot tub, and within walking distance to great restaurants in downtown historic Chandler.
Surprisingly nice hotel at a very reasonable rate. Didn't seem like much of a golf hotel, though. Just had a gold simulator in the lobby that I never saw anyone use.
A nice place surrounded by a lot of interesting local shops and restaurants
Great place for our womens conference. Helpful staff. Clean rooms. Great pool. Great location near restaurants, entertainment. I'd come back.
Stayed here for a business trip for 6 nights. The staff was so nice friendly and helpful! Every morning for breakfast 2 of the servers made sure we had our beverages before we even asked, they knew exactly what we wanted by our first day and never forgot! The only reason I gave 4 of 5 stars is because of the shower, it looked a bit old or not as clean as it should be. The bed and pillows were so comfortable and the room felt like home. Even though it was a million degrees outside my room stayed nice and cool. Its also within walking distance to many restaurants and bars which was very nice since we didn't rent a car. The staff always seemed to be in a good mood and smiled 100% of the time! The checking out process was super easy and quick too! I would Definently recommend staying here if you travel to Arizona! Thank you to all the staff at crowne plaza for making my stay easy, comfortable, and relaxing!!!
This is the worst golf course I've ever played on. It was only $15 in the afternoon during the summer, and I still felt ripped off. The greens were atrocious, most of them on the front nine had large dirt spots all over them and you could hardly tell where the green ended and the fringe began. Everything here is old, and not in a vintage/antique way but in a terribly maintained way. You'd be better off not golfing at all than playing here.
Can t get food delivered - The drivers can t find your room.
Beautiful grounds, however the room smelled of stale cigar smoke...when I looked up at the air filter, I pretty much figured out why - it was filthy, the vent had cobwebs on it! We only stayed one night - my husband had a CE Conference to attend - but as soon as I showed a pic of the a/c vent to the bar manager, he went immediately to upper management & filter was changed that day! Stan & the hotel staff are incredible!
Rooms need to be updated and it is a bit loud with the people staying. Front desk and night manager seemed really confused when I asked for a late checkout. Location is good for downtown chandler
Arrived a little early. Had no parking. No valet. And no bell hop. Walked to our room with our bags to find out our card key didnt work. Went back. Walked back to room with luggage and finally took a shower. The drain was broken so I showered in standing water as it filled up. Once I got to sleep it was ok. Until 8 am when the maids ignored the do not disturb sign and banged on the door until we answered. They asked when we were leaving in broken English to which we responded at checkout. Seriously get it together. No phoenix or scottsdale "resort" should be this badly managed. The room wasnt too dated. Food was somewhat good. Just terrible service. Reception didnt seem bothered by our complaint. I wouldn't recommend it
Nice old fashioned hotel, the property is beautiful
Good hotel, good service located in the heart of Chandler. The hotel has good access to a golf course and other amenities. It's an older hotel with personality and charm
Very nice hotel close to many restaurants and interesting history.
Incredable staff that Natalie at the front desk rocks!
