if you use these people expect to die, you cant get your diabetic treatment no matter what not covered on any insurance plan as far as i can tell , even know people on medicaid who cant get the treatment. primary care doctors are a joke again if you value your life dont join
I TRIED TO EMAIL THEM NOT A VALID EMAIL, TRIED TO CALL KEPT GETTING DISCONNECTED, THERE INFO HORRIBLY WRONG
The prescription customer service was great. They helped me correct a prescription that needed to be refilled. They even called the pharmacy and called me back when it was taken care of.
I always get prompt, accurate, and polite help from Select Health. I love their customer service and their insurance!!
Another awful insurance company. If you have a malignant skin cancer, you'd think the removal of that cancer, so that it doesn't kill you, would be automatically covered. Worthless! Why bother.
The customer service I received today was above and beyond what I expected, thank you!
VERY select health. Select health is A lot like not having insurance at all. There is more Not covered than covered.
Best insurance company I've ever dealt with. I was living in Spokane WA and was paralyzed in an accident and was able to get life flighted from Spokane WA to St. George UT where I have family that could help me. I'll always be grateful for that. Plus I was 26 at the time and I was still on my parents plan and would've lost it the same month as I was paralyzed and they extended my coverage for 2 more years.
The only negative thing is the wheelchair company select health uses. I almost had to take their company to court due to refusing to fill a prescription for editing my wheelchair to how I needed it. (All in all every person and physical therapists I've known have had no good opinion of them).
All in all the worst insurance company we ve ever had coverage with. Bad policies, procedures and employees....
Can t wait to find another provider.
I had a amazing experience with the young lady that answered my call. She was very thorough and helpful in finding out if a compounded medication that I am now taking was covered by my insurance. To my surprise it was. I am so thankful that I took the time to make a phone call and get a positive answer, along with a positive response from across the phone line. Thank you!
I love SelectHealth, they are a great insurance carrier. They've always treated me very fairly.
SelectHealth continues to surprise me with their excellent customer service and claims payment accuracy. I just read that SelectHealth has ranked highest in member satisfaction for the 4th year in a row by JD Power and Associates. As a non-profit health plan, I see SelectHealth participating in many charity events and contributing to our community.
I would not have an issue recommending SelectHealth to anyone.
Absolutely THE worst!
If I could give them zero stars, I would. We had coverage for our daughter who is in college through them. Had bill on autopay for monthly premium. They raised the premium by a few cents without notification and then canceled her policy because our payment was a few pennies short. To make matters worse, when we tried to reinstate her policy, they suddenly claimed that the premium is now over one-hundred dollars more. What crooks!
Hit and miss. I called in about coverage on a co-payment I was not supposed to have for ER visit. The first time I called in the representative told me that I had to pay the copayment. When challenged, although very nicely done, he told me to look up my coverage and when I found out to call back in. When I called back, I just skipped the front line and asked for supervisor. She was nice but we ll see if it really gets fixed... But at the end of the day, the billing and Claims should be done right the first time and should not be up to the patient to navigate this nonsense. I marked 2 Stars because there was a little customer recovery... but 7-10 days to reprocess a claim, that Select Health messed up on... guess they don t care if they not completing their end of the contract or that people are threatened with collections because of their mistake.
I've worked in the insurance industry for over 22 years and realize no insurance company is perfect. Having said that, SelectHealth tries to do what's best for its members and is comparatively very good to work with.
Because Utah has a monopoly setup with Select Health/Intermountain, we are basically forced to use select health. Every time I call they are rude and confusing. I just spoke to Alaina in account about some billing questions and she was rude the entire time. I wouldn't tell anyone to use them, but I wouldn't' know where else to send them.
A dear friend of mine has been fighting for three weeks to have procedure approved for her son that would save his functioning kidney. One kidney is at only 20% and the other was healthy at the beginning of this year but because Select Health was will not approve the surgery it is now at 40%. They are denying because this has never been done on a child but has been done successfully on adults. He is 15 and passed all pre-testing for the procedure. I guess they would rather pay for a transplant down the road. Despicable!
Answered my questions. Assured me that she would get back to me, same day.
Select Health agent was very courteous and helpful getting the information I needed. Very professional.
Everyone was so nice and pleasant on the phone. They also made sure I had all my questions answered before I got off the call. Great customer service !
I agree with the reviewers. Insurance is expensive and they deny some of the procedures, supposedly because you dont meet the requirements. And if you have a problem hey tell you to contact customer service.
Great experience with SelectHealth - I like their dental.
due to covid 19 i was unable to pay my premium of 1100.00 March 30 so i was canceled Idaho department of insurance requested that you not cancel du to late premium,!!!
If this is what passes for health insurance I'll do without. Their policy has an escape clause for even their routine screenings. They will tell you they cover a screening colonoscopy at 100%. But you should know that if there is any finding, even a benign polyp, you will be expected to pay for the colonoscopy yourself.
For your financial health, select a different health insurer.
Crappy customer service and web site. For 12 hrs have been getting Error Code 500 on their web page. Called member svc this morning, and he tells me his is working just fine. I again told him I've tried since last night, and on several different browsers. His response is the same, his is just fine - end of conversation. In other words, he is telling me there is something wrong with me, with no offer to help. I have to actually ask if they have technical support! Only then does he give me their number. But they are not open yet. In the meantime, I have tried at home, at work, and on another person's computer, and still get the Error Code for their web page. How long can it take for them to fix it?? Oh, but it works just fine for them IN THEIR OWN NETWORK. So it must be me!
If there was a choice for negative (-) review, this company would get that. Their customer service is the absolute worst to deal with. Had a payment issue where my statement and bank clearly show that payment was made and Select Health claimed that they refunded it back into my account which they never did. I had to deal with this headache and jump through hoops for a week. DO NOT USE THIS INSURANCE COMPANY! They are the worst!
I don t mind Select Health. Our deductible is ridiculously high but I m grateful for having insurance in the first place. The people I speak with when I call are polite and helpful. They do their absolute best to give me the information I need or find someone who can.
The person who answered my call was super helpful and solved the exact problem I had
Select Health is a poor insurance company. I would encourage everyone to avoid doing business with them.
Their friendly customer service reps are a veneer for an ultimately poor company.
They have a board of pharmacists that make medical decisions for their customers. This board has no interest in the recommendation of their customer's in-network physicians. It is HMO-like in their ruthlessness.
To get them to consider a physician's opinion, you must engage in an appeal process of a dangerous length. I hold this insurance company personally responsible for negative health outcomes.
Having this insurance company is bad for your health. Eat a bacon cheeseburger instead.
SelectHealth has been a pleasure to work with, even considering the fact that we re talking about health Insurance here... definitely taking care of my family s medical needs and regularly going above and beyond the call of duty.
Its refreshing to speak directly to a human for questions and have them be kind, an clear .Also to ask if They have ansewered all my questions. It seems that this courtesy is not the norm anymore. So thank you selecthealth Idaho.
Debbie Rhoan
I was diagnosed with a serious illness last year which required several hospitalizations. I couldn't be more pleased with Select Health insurance. I get regular calls from asking about my condition and how they can be assistance. They have cover most of my medical bills without question. I greatly appreciate this company.
Every time we have had this insurance they have given us so. Much. Grief. I've had to appeal standard procedures for my children's allergies and pharmacy meds. We pay over 1000 a month for insurance for our little family and they literally give you the absolute basics. I fought to get one of our main prescriptions covered and they finally covered it -then I went to fill it only to realize it was still $310! So ridiculous. They claimed that it's because it's not generic. Guess what? It has no generic!! I honestly don't know how they feel like they offer an honest service. Could not be more disappointed with this insurance.
Had my prescription stolen and they were kind enough to grant a one time early refill. I had a major back surgery 6 months ago and they have been fantastic
My issue was quickly handled in a very satisfying manner. Thank you for all your help.
Its hard to review an Insurance company, as so much of what makes people happy or upset is actually not the insurance company's responsibility. For example, most people's employers pick the plan and then determine how much the employee is going to pay. Choice of plan and network are usually not limited by SelectHealth, if the employer is willing to pay for the larger network.
Many also complain about not having claims covered, but then also complain about the rising cost of insurance. You cant have it both ways. Just like your car insurance goes up if you have a claim against it, the more claims against a health policy, the more the premiums are going to be the next year.
The best thing that you can do for your insurance is to be actively involved. A quick phone call before your procedure, or seeing a new provider, can make a big difference in your experience.
Based on the things that an insurance company can control, SelectHealth is at the top of the pack. It is very rare that you are not able to get an actual person on the phone within 30 seconds (they promise employers they will answer calls this quickly). Compared to the rest of the industry, this is fantastic. All of the phone reps are also located in Utah. No calls overseas to someone you cant understand.
Claims processes are also closely aligned with industry standards. While you might find some small differences between one company vs another, the health insurance industry is so heavily regulated that most policies cover the same basic services. How they pay for those services are going to be based on what your employer chooses to pay for. Often they don't want to pay for you coverage, so they chose a plan that has high claim costs to you, and then they pass the cost of insurance on to the employees.
Customer service is also among the best in the industry. While you may not get the answer you want to your question, you can get an answer because you can get someone on the phone.
Are there places for improvement, sure. I tend to feel like I am always talking to someone who is new when I call. When they are not confident about the answer, or if it take a really long time to get an answer, then I usually call back and speak to someone else, or I will ask for a supervisor.
You will pay more for SelectHealth, but the level of service from SelectHealth is much better then you will get from a Blue Cross or United Healthcare. Its up to you but I am willing to pay for the ability to get someone on the phone. I just make sure I call SelectHealth before I see a new doctor or have a procedure done. When I do that, I have never had a problem.
The most expensive insurance you will ever use! I just changed employers and had to switch from United Health Care to Select Health. All of my Dr bills are higher through the Select contracted rates. My options for in network clinics and doctors are extremely limited, especially with 2 college students out of state. My deductibles are higher with a higher monthly payment for my coverage. I am a well educated consumer of my medical coverage and care as I have been burned too many times not to be. I understand intimately having worked in industry...provider care, med device, and insurance. While all of the systems are broken I see Select Health as part of the problem, not part of the solution. While the individuals I have spoken to in their call center seem pleasant they can't do anything to really solve the issues at the heart of managing our skyrocketing healthcare costs. I think its telling when most Dr's don't want to deal with Select Health and the ones that do talk poorly of them repeatedly saying "you can only go to this clinic for them to cover this" or "you will want to talk to Select Health first as they are notorious for not covering that."
They called to let us know that a specific prescription had been approved for coverage. Very courteous agent.
Alicia at Select Health went above and beyond to follow up with my doctor. Not only that, she followed up when she said she would with me. That is a rare thing these days and her persistence was noted and more than appreciated. In the end, the result was better than I could ve hoped for.
I don't recommend SelectHealth to anybody.
We cancelled our membership when I got other insurance, wrote and signed the letter and everything. Then they withdraw our money anyway, and later say they didn't get our memo because their system was down. A day later we called a second time and they said they had the email and that their system never was down. Nevertheless, this 3rd contact did not begin the transaction reversal. Had to call again a week after that, and now they're sending us a check, which will take 2 weeks. This is of course their policy to protect them, but where is our protection? The electronic withdrawal only serves one way. That's not customer service.
In tax season, losing $422 for nothing is completely unacceptable. I guess that's what you get when you're buying an intangible service. They don't even know when you're gone, just how to reach into your pocket anyway.
Every time I've needed Select Health or has called. I have been treated with respect and caring. Kindness I would choose no other insurance to have.
I have selectvalue and it the best insurance I've had.
12/08/2018 updated - Is This The Mafia?!
I switch from these guys to Molina only to be forced back because of Obamacare. Their crooked policies at Selecthealth dont cover anything I was covered under in Molina. My wife and I have gone months without therapy and it's become a hazard to our mental health.
Also found out their violating Mental Health Parity Laws. Turned them over to the Utah Insurance Department. Still waiting for a response. Probably because Selecthealth is trying to avoid them.
Eventually I came down to drop off an appeal in person at 5:00 p.m. And I was hoping to talk to someone in person. Instead the security guard was gracious enough to take my appeal and deliver it for me. Because apparently they close their doors at 5:00 p.m. when Google says 8:00 p.m.
As many problems as I have had with this insurance company I thought it would be better to talk to someone in person than over the phone but nope.
Also: I never got the response by mail for my appeal so I had to call. Rejected again. Wow! One hell of a circle. These guys will give you the run around. I think the Mafia runs this dump.
We're underwhelmed, to say the least, by the meager selection of podiatrists on the plan. Worse, to go to a competent podiatrist, Dr. Berry in Spanish Fork, we have to pay directly instead of using insurance because he's not on the plan. And to top it off, SelectHealth won't even explain why, but they will lie about it, saying it's just because not enough people have given him a good rating on their web site. Well, he's not on the SelectHealth web site, because he's not on the plan, so there's no way for him to get any kind of ratings there. What kind of runaround is that? (85 reviews on Google, and a five star rating, though.)
Post SelectHealth response edit:
There you have it in a nutshell: a completely nonresponsive answer from SelectHealth. Sure captures the essence of the corporation.
Your web presence is absolutely hopeless. "myhealth" does not work and it is currently impossible to make online premium payments ("eInvoice Service is not working). My recommendation is that you take a peak into the 21st Century.
Update: Website will not work with all browsers (especially Chrome). Got it to work with Firefox.
So upsetting!! During the Covid pandemic Select Health cancelled my insurance! My daughter is on medication she takes daily. I fell behind on payments the month of March and April. Both my husband and myself are self employed. They refused to work with us and refused to reinstate our insurance even though I was willing to pay the balance!! Never again Select Health! They force us to have insurance then take it away during a time of crisis.
I currently pay for my brother s insurance with a different company called Moda and its an absolute freaking nightmare. I ve had select heath for myself for a couple years and they have been nothing but helpful and amazing- over the phone connections with drs in my network and will even set up appointments with me in a three way call to make sure everything goes smoothly, and they always answer calls, if not immediately, in a very timely fashion. After a few months dealing with Moda and wishing they had the same standard as Select Health, I feel a good rating is absolutely deserved for the latter. Please don't ever change your standards Select Health! As things are, I would definitely recommend to even my closest friends. Also- stay the hell away from Moda. You ll be lucky to get a call back and the web portal is outdated. Not worth the headache and absolutely unprofessional response if there are questions.
Select Health goes against caring for patients needs. I have been told over and over again just appeal for an authorization and it will go through. I have done that 3 times and they are still denying it, EVEN though I meet all the requirements given. They would rather see a patient suffer than have a surgery that would help make them feel better in life. They are all about keeping money in their pocket. All the do is take money from patients what happened to patient values "Integrity: We are principled, honest, and ethical and we do the right thing for those we serve" - No you don't. "Trust" - what a joke, I trusted you all to help me, I was wrong. "Excellence: We perform at the highest level, always learning and looking for ways to improve" - Another joke when I needed coverage you turned your backs. "Access: All customers receive the care and information where when and how they want it, with seamless coordination across the system" - wrong you turn your backs on your patients and the community. I need service and because I am going against your bottom dollar you are doing whatever you can to turn me away. I would highly recommend staying away if you have other options.
No patient care. They overturned a decision by my doctor to keep me on a brand name Lialda. I've had worse symptoms and I'm spending $300 a month to be denied health care and service. They'll get the last laugh when I have to go to the hospital and they get a bill for over $5000.
I love Select Health - they process claims quickly & are easy to get ahold of with questions.
Selecthealth is amazing! My plan information is straightforward and easy to understand. Great and friendly customer service. Plus I love How they re non profit which gives me peace of mind that that their in the business of truly looking out for my health.
Terrible insurance company to have. They are constantly just pushing you around and lying to you about what they need to pay a medical bill. It's been 9 months and I am still fighting with them to pay their portion of the bill. I will never recommend them to anybody.
I always receive great customer service from SelectHealth. Their representatives keep me informed and follow up with me to resolve any issues.
I have had a great experience through many surgeries, ICU stays, broken bones and general care with my family. Have had to contact them on claims occasionally, but always seem interested in helping resolve the concern.
Great staff, very helpful, I always get wonderful service whenever I visit
Brittnee L was amazing she did a great job answering all my questions.
Thank you
Emily and Gage answered all of my questions! There wasn t a long hold when initially connecting or when I was transferred. Great customer service!
They answered my question in a timely and personable manner.
Do not trust them when they say your healthcare provider is covered over the phone. If they later can find a way out they will.
Was told by 2 representatives on 2 separate occasions that cover age would be 100% prior to going to the "facility". Now they say it is out of network so there is no coverage.
This has been a 5 month process and they still don't seem to care. They will find any loophole out.
I thought $500 plus was a lot to pay for single person and then they sent a notice that it was going to increase to $800. A nice thing about aging is Medicare....I would have shopped around if not for luckily being eligible for Medicare the same month it was increasing by such a high percentage. And I rarely used my insurance.
Worst insurance you could use. You call in with questions and instead of just taking a minute to answer questions, they d rather refer you to their website. A standard check up isn t covered by my plan but the irresponsible people with emergency contraceptive and STD checks are covered? How about use protection if you can t afford or don t want a child.. I can t wrap my mind around how something completely preventable would be covered but something like a cold for instance that is completely uncontrollable wouldn t even be covered for a visit to get medication. Pay out of pocket for uncontrollable but get free coverage for a lack of self control... thanks Obama
Representative were very knowledgeable about my insurance needs & gave me the information I needed today.
No complaints about the insurance. But after I switched to a different provider with a new employer, I had a prescription filled and paid for by the new insurance. Select health also decided they'd pay the same claim then they sent a collections agency after me to get their money back. They did nothing whatsoever to resolve the situation or figure out what went wrong... All they cared about was their money. It took me hours of my time to figure out on my own how to get the pharmacy to pay them back.
We've been calling for days on end with no answer. It seems like they're avoiding getting us our insurance cards since we can't make any claims with just the group number.
Talk about a company that is pure garbage. For the amount of money I pay to a company, you'd think they would actually cover a medical expense. Let's not get started on the crappy website and customer service. I pray everyday that this company goes under.
Highly unethical. Once I hit my maximum out of pocket for the year my case reviewer for Select Health claimed to see something on my MRI that half a dozen other specialists, radiologists, and surgeons could not see and denied my claim.
I know it's cheaper to hire a kindergartener to build your website, but please just pay for a real developer. It's a complete joke.
It is impossible to pay the bill. Their website is unclear, when it works. To call in takes over an hour, even if you call the local number. When you talk to someone they can't help you and send you to someone else who can't help you.
Great insurance, until they deny every prior authorization for something you need or your patients need...all about cost control. Keep that in mind. The appeal process is a joke. They offer it, but their mind is already made up. Good luck.
SelectHealth has been great for me and my wife. We have gone through ankle surgery and colon cancer with them and they paid the claims exactly as we expected.
Disabled and eligible for Medicaid, I signed up with Molina on the recommendation of a friend. I changed to IHC s insurance arm with more providers and more procedure coverage. SO happy I finally did! After all the same experiences listed on Molina s poor reviews, I now have the exact opposite with Select Health Community Care! AND when physical therapy wasn t covered for my 19 year old (before expanded coverage) they covered it anyway! At no charge! Night and Day difference. I would never go with Molina again even if they offered me free premiums for life plus a hundred bucks a month. They re that bad. (*In Utah, Molina is only available for Medicaid now and has pulled out of the other Utah markets since 2019. Walgreens no longer accepts Molina for Rx coverage.*)
Since my daughters and I have a genetic connective tissue disorder, it is essential that we have confidence in the care coverage we receive. IHC has us covered in every way. We still do our part to make sure we have the right doctors and immediately seek out another if they disregard our questions or concerns or just don t feel right but knowing we don t have to worry about our coverage is a great relief. We have enough to worry about already. Thanks, Intermountain Health Care and Select Health, for all the exceptionally caring interactions we have on a far too regular basis.
Unhappy with their customer service and ease of submitting claims
The rep I spoke with today was great and helped me with everything I needed
Anytime I need to call in to SelectHealth for questions about my policy, I know that I am going to be taken care of. I spoke with Ashley this morning about my pharmacy benefits and she was very helpful. She answered all my questions about a specific medication and even before I asked, went through the amounts that had already applied to my deductible, which is very helpful. SelectHealth and their Pharmacy team are very fortunate to have Ashley among their ranks.
Worked with Ashley she was very knowledgeable and easy to work with!
HORRIBLE experience! We were set on autopay for each month. In February they charged us an extra $300 for our insurance. Took over a month to get the money back due to their mistake! This month again they charged us an extra $300 on autopay once again! When I called they said that they had put my husbands birthday wrong back in January. Yet we have had Select Health insurance and have had it for 2 years plus! So due to their mistake they charged us the extra $300. They did not notify us of the mistake or that they would be taking the extra $300 this month! They claimed they called, but all three people I talked to said a different call time, yet I had no missed call or voicemail. The people I talked to all said different things, and when I asked to talk to a supervisor I was told they would call me back. They called me back but not for several days. Find another provider! Their insurance is a complete joke! Along with their employees!
OMG - they hit us with a bait and switch!! Be wary of this company. I'm not sure we can do anything about this. Don't fall into the same trap we did.
Review based upon a phone call with an associate who was professional and helpful.
Ashley was the person who helped me. She did an amazing job of helping me through a complex situation. Thank you!
Ashley solved multiple problems I was having with getting prescriptions approved. So nice to get a representative that is able to understand and solve problems. She s five star quality!
Called with questions about my insurance and they always are very helpful to me.
Cameron was personable, polite, and very Helpful! Led me to the best possible options.I received valuable information
.Thank You Cameron
The customer service agent that helped me was courteous and knowledgeable. She explained the rules that govern my prescriptions, she got the pharmacy to fill my rx.
They haven't sent me my insurance cards two years in a row. Not sure exactly what I am paying for..
Edits: To add to my previous review. Select health is not accepted at a number of places that do covid testing. I will switch insurance companies this year. Abysmal. Insurance companies are a major scam of the American people. Now even unhelpful during a pandemic. Insurance companies should be embarrassed but they have no shame.
My husband has to switch to another doctor. They didn't cover his visit. Insurance companies are always finding ways to deny coverage.
I am grateful my health is mostly good. I was lucky to find free testing for covid since Select Health made my limited options in Utah even smaller. Most places I would have had to pay out of pocket.
Great representatives. Insurance is so difficult to navigate and the personnell, whom I have worked with, have been great.
The Customer Service was absolutely Amazing!! Gave me the information I needed.
I have been insured through select health for 21 of the last 22 years. Even before the Obamacare debacle they were going downhill. I tried renewing with them for several years in order to get a less expensive rate. I was denied every time for the most asinine of reasons. One year was for wrist pain . I got stung by a wasp and thought the sting got infected.
In 2017 I gave Select Health a joyous goodbye and enrolled with Molina. Sadly, Obamacare mandates made Molina bail from Utah and I was forced back into Selecthealth as they are the only marketplace option.
I am one month into their coverage and tried to sign up for automatic payments. After creating an account and searching with frustration for the payment option I called in for help. A nice woman answered and I was told Selecthealth payments does not work with safari. WHAT? I would have to use a normal computer to make an online payment. Wow...
I wish I had another option for insurance in Utah.
Horrible care for patient's with Mental illness! 6 month wait to see a LCSW for a patient discharged from Hospital for attempting suicide. No Coordination of care between prescribing MD and Therapist because they're not on the same electronic health record system, yet it's impossible to get a therapist and MD at same location - unless you can wait 6 months.
Select Health is a company that provides great customer service. They have always been professional and respectful. Anytime I have called with a question I have had a short wait time and my questions have been answered accurately. I ve really enjoyed working with Select Health.
I called the pharmacy customer service for information on how and where I could use maintenance pricing. The representative I spoke with was very knowledgeable and I was clear on my options.
They just decided, out of the blue to limit the number of allergy shots a patient can get in a year. They didn't announce this to patients, or health care providers, they just did it.. They retroactively went back an entire year, from whichever random date they chose, looked at how many shots a patient had received within that year, and just refused to pay for anymore beyond the limits which they set. I didn't find out about this until I received a $600 bill from my Dr. and had to call their billing office.
As a medical provider I've interacted with many insurance groups, but none of them hold a candle to the customer service provided at Select Health. The attitudes of these employees shine through and make my day brighter and my job more enjoyable. I have yet to experience any other insurance group that has better provider services.
Claims to cover COVID-19... Nope they just left our 2 year old daughter out to dry.
Luckily our local hospital staff were able to save her but, now it looks like we are going to be homeless.
Thanks Select Heath, when you go home to your family please think of all those that don't have a home to go anymore as you lied about coverage and took the premiums anyway.
