Wow, what a wonderful place!! If you think that you can / would be able to complete in one day, highly impossible. Lot of things to know and understand. Advice, please go on weekdays and not on weekends and long weekend, please avoid. Reach early and finish tram tour as soon you enter Space center. Friendly staff who will guide and helpful.
We drove all the way in from Maryland to NASA. Imagine our shock when the security guard, who refused to get out of her truck, told us the place was closed until later in the month. Google says they open at 10:00 a.m. All that money absolutely wasted on this trip. My granddaughter is crying and an adventure with my daughter that will never happen. Change your hours to none on Google please. So very disappointed.
JSC has to be one of my favorite places of all time. There is so much to experience and see and learn in every direction once you stepped through the front doors. $100 for 4 people (including parking) was a pretty good deal too. The Tram rides to the various operation centers there at JSC are a must. There are three trams, each offer a different exhibit, and all are included in the entrance fee. Aside from the exhibits the history behind the facility is quite interesting also. I highly recommend d a visit to anyone vacationing in the Houston area. Who knows maybe on one of your visits you may run into a real life astronaut!
The place is very interesting and very cultural, the trip to the park should be better organized especially in the capacity of the trains since it is not possible to leave one waiting for more than 25 minutes so that there place to continue to the next activity with children and there is no protection from the sun
I visited all NASA Space Centers - Cape Canaveral is better. Nevertheless - if you are there before ...
New is the 747 with the shuttle replica on top. Absolutely watch all movies, especially IMAX - the program varies. All displays are good, a little more light would not be so bad. The tour leads to a very poor Rocket Garden, to the hall with the decomposed Saturn rocket and to a training facility. View from above, but NIX happens.
Since the end of the shuttle program and before the start of the Mars program there is not much going on. The international space station and the Russian vans may still be interesting. Plan a whole day - if you are interested in space travel.
Nice exposition but you spend more than half of your stay in lines. Recommend to book train tours in advance. Then explore main museum on your own time.
This place used to be Iconic. This place used to be the not only amazing, but it was special to Houston and the world. I remember going as a child and seeing the exhibits and marvel at the amazement. I remember stories that my dad would tell me about his memory of the place.
But now, its so much different then it once was. I wouldn't even call it the same thing. The Space Center has turned into a cheap space themed celebration station. The costs are astronomical, it smells like sweat and wet carpet, and there is maybe %15 of the actual space stuff left. It's laughable as long as your not on your way home from an expensive trip there with disappointed kids in the car. If you want a real space center experience, go to Florida. Much, much better.
This is an absolute must for any visitor to Houston. The museum strikes a perfect balance between history and science. Some criticize the entrance for being too kiddy with lots of activities and flashing lights. I disagree this is one of the best parts because it s designed to get the next generation excited about space and STEM education. You can always walk past it to see the more in-depth exhibits.
Two negatives: the food at the cafeteria is not good at all and the lines for the tours are very long. (Note DO NOT SKIP THE TOUR - rocket park is the best part of the museum). Go on a weekday to minimize the crowds and to visit the Apollo11 control room (not open on weekends).
Fun, great, and informative place to visit in Houston. We were there on a Monday, not too crowded, 30 minute wait for the tram tours. Food was sad and expensive but I would still recommend this place for some family time or just to learn more about space.
Tourism is mostly managed and cared for by teenagers who communicate very poorly. Some of the kids are punks that eve tease on visitors - very sad. Adult employee (at the photo shop) also joined them and eve teased on different people while we were waiting in line. But punks are punks.
Soon after you enter the building there is no guidance "how to enjoy" place. You get confused very easily.
Now the good part. We went to the mission control where no one was controlling anything but they showed a screen where we could see people working (could be old video). Not impressed. I told my wife it was a mistake - until we visited the Rocket Park. WOW, it is real folks. It is gigantic and breathtaking experience to see the huge rocket and the rocket engines in person. Dont miss the huge rocket housed in closed space.
Buildings look pretty worn out, I guess that's due to poor funding.
Overall I would like to rate 5 stars just for that giant rocket but we were visitors and we did not want to be eve teased by employees whose salary is paid out of the money we pay into the system.
A different day, visiting NASA, learning a lot of technology and surprised of all the advances of this subject. We made an imaginary trip to another planet, We took very nice photos as if we were on Mars. There is a souvenir shop and very fine clothes.
This place is AWSOME! I don't know who had more fun me or my kids. There is so much stuff to look at and do,it's incredible. Seeing all the DARPA projects was really cool. My kids loved seeing the Saturn V rocket. There is so much history here it's amazing. If you have the money I HIGHLY RECOMMEND taking the behind the scenes tour, it is absolutely worth it! Learning more about the space programs was so fun. The space station mock up was super good as well! I can't wait to be able to take my kids again they had so much fun.
I used to like NASA... I really did. But you did my guy Opportunity real wrong up on Mars. Everytime I think of him up there all alone a little part of me dies inside. Please help him or I m telling everyone you guys are dumb and Elon Musk can do what takes you 30yrs in 5.
Visited here a year ago today and it came up on FB memories, before I began using Google Maps and recording places. Had a lot of fun and it was very educational for all of us. They could make the place more family friendly in terms of cost and it would induce more interest and perhaps repeat visits.
There is nothing excising stuff for the money spent. Watching best space movies is better than visiting this place. Waited all day and spent $$$ to see the bulls with horns and deer :)
This place is the worst place to visit. Everything is restrict and is most for employees, private groups, friends for this company. I will never visit this place again..
Please give yourself more than 2 hours to visit this place. It includes the bus tour visiting different facility learning about the rockets, astronauts training and games.
This is my first time coming here to Houston, so of course I had to come here. Frankly, I'm glad that I had insisted that my extended family and I come to check this place out. My nieces and nephews took forever leaving the playground area because they loved playing there so much. I've learned a lot of fascinating facts about space and the history of our discoveries. Would highly recommend for anyone of any age
Highly recommend the 90 minute tram tour, please get in line as soon as the center opens if you want a quick visit. Plenty to see and do, highly recommend it. Great family and kids hangout day.
Very enjoyable experience and worth the two hour drive. The tour tram was great also. Got to see mission control! They give military and educator discounts.
There is so much to see it s almost impossible to do it all in a day. I was able to get in at 10am and go right to book the Historic Apollo 11 Mission Control tour and got on the tram for The training centre and rocket park but just barely and felt rushed. I tried emailing customer service before my visit to try and get some tips to maximize my day as I only had 1 day, and all I got was a message that they can t make any promises that I d see what I wanted to see...duh.
Now that I ve been here is what I did and what I d recommend. I got there a few minutes before opening and got in line. That was a mistake; the line was for entry and not for tickets. There are booths and electronic kiosks; the electronic kiosks are way faster and hidden at the side. We got in and went straight to booking our Apollo Mission Control times tram ticket which was smart cause it sold out, but I booked an 11:30 time which didn t leave much time to look around before going to the tram line. One we got back the line ups for the non timed trams to the training centre and Orion mission control were insane so we spent over an hour in line ups and by the time we got back to the space centre the tours were done and we missed the Orion mission control and didn t have much time to view other exhibits.
What I would recommend is getting in and booking the Apollo tram but for later like one of the last ones. Then do the other tours before the crowds come. Also I would consider getting a membership which would have allowed me to book the Apollo tram in advance and bypass the other tram lines.
This is a great place for everyone. I took my in-laws here since my they were interested in going. I haven't been here since I was a kid, maybe when I was 10 years old or so. The trip took about 45 minutes to an hour drive from Spring TX/The Woodlands area. Definitely worth the drive. They offer a senior citizen discount as well as military discount. They may have had student discount, but I don't recall. We also paid for the self guided tour headset. Very helpful when looking around with the headset icons. We also took the tram tour, included in admission. I was very intrigued to see how things have improved since I was 10 (about 30 years ago)...aging myself LOL. The tram tour takes your "behind the scenes". You get to see the control center. No longer used, recently retired but cool to see the control center used during the challenger and other missions. Definitely recommended. Depending on how you use your time and if you purchase the self guided headset, you could easily spend an entire day here. We arrived around 11am and left about 4pm.
Off-site parking, wait 2 hours for 5 minute tram ride. Overall just as disappointing as I found it 10 years ago. Go to Huntsville Alabama if you want to see a nice setup.
On the outset of this review it must be distinguished that Space Center Houston is a tourist attraction meant for the public's enlightenment and entertainment. It is a visitor center actually separate from the NASA Johnson Space Center. Tours of the JSC facility from Space Center Houston are available, but the tours are of course guided. JSC has contributed to some of the greatest achievements mankind has ever produced - the Apollo moon landings, Hubble Telescope, the Space Shuttle, and the International Space Station to name some highlights. On the horizon are the James Webb Space Telescope and continued Mars missions. When one looks at the pace at which NASA achieved greatness and conquered obstacles in the 1960-70's one can't help but feel that NASA has almost unlimited potential. The men and women at JSC exemplify determination, wonder, creativity, and success.
I went for a field trip here and it was amazing! I would definitely recommend this place. Me and my Best friends are space fanatics and took great interest in the tour. The food is amazing with a variety of foods to eat. The Gift shops have alot of cool and space related products and more. To sum my trip up, It was definitely the best place I have visited and I definitely recommend to people of all ages!
One of the coolest visits I've ever had, it has everything on display about the special world, train ride inside to see the training center and rockets that were once functional, fantastic.
Tour was incredible. Over 5 hours in a small group, change to see mission control in person (got to chat with flight director and the Adco - how cool is that!!!!). It's amazing to walk around the training facilities, hear and see the history of the space program. It's future and its present. Our guide was very knowledgeable and fun and even made a detour for me as I had to leave early for a flight.
Seeing what NASA does is making me reconsider my life choices a little!
I give Johnson Space Center located at 2101 E NASA Pkwy, Houston, TX 77058 FIVE STARS. So much to see and do at Johnson's space center. Tour options and plenty of souvenirs to buy. Give yourself enough time to really enjoy it all. 5
Disappointing. When walking through the exhibits, a lot of the simulations did not work at all. You also have to pay extra to go on some of the rides that are literally just rocking chairs back and forth. I mean $10 to go on a ride once is excessive when you already have to pay to get into the visitor s center. The picture they take for you wouldn t even show up on their system. Long lines to go on the tram tour as well.
Wonderful place!!! This was my favorite place in Houston to visit. Be sure when you go to take the tram - my favorite part of the space center was what I saw on the tram ride.
