My car was having issues that needed their diagnostic tool to figure out. I told them I was a single mom and between jobs. I was worried about the outcome of this visit. They had my car for several days and I thought they were being nice by providing me with a loaner car. They finally called and told me what they thought was wrong with the car with a recommendation to replace a battery and all 6 coil packs that cost me $1500. I learned afterwards that what they should never have recommended to change all coil packs at one time. They don't go out like that, and it did not fix the car. I had to take the car a second time and noticed they charged me almost $200 for a rental car that I never asked for. When I brought it to their attention, they said they would reimburse me part of the rental fee and I would get a check in the mail in about 5 days. That was about 2 weeks ago. I called back twice to find out something and they don't seem to know anything and don't call me back. So they have charged me hundreds of dollars for unnecessary work and parts as well as a rental car fee, and now offered to reimburse under $100, but won't send a check or answer my questions when I call.
I have never complained about anything but I think people should know what to expect if they have any work done at Hickory Toyota.

It's a pleasure to work with this dealership. At all levels from sales to maintenance, they make the journey as pain free as possible. I highly recommend them. I'd like to give shoutouts to Dwayne Willix, Josh Hudgens, and Nick Thompson for their excellent customer service during the sales process. I have brought my car in for service twice, for the 5k and 10k maintenances, and each time the service department has been friendly and responsive. As for my car, I love, love, love, my 6-speed manual Corolla Hatchback. The car is so much fun to drive and gets out of its own way on the highway. I love it for mountain driving.

I had the best car buying experience! Eric was my car salesman. He sold me three cars in a month! Eric has great customer service attention to detail. From the initial phone call, he was professional and knew all about the Avalon hybrid car! The first car that I wanted was in Georgia. He found the car in the color that I wanted! Yeah! Sean , the dealership financer was awesome too! There was a window sticker issue and detailing of the car the he resolved for me. I had a Avalon loaner car both times! I appreciate their attention to detail - everything is cleaned up - you can't even tell a mechanic has been in the truck. I find the service staff friendly, and quick.

It might be because I'm Asian and a woman, but I usually get treated rudely when I come in to get my car serviced. The only time I've been treated with any sort of respect was when I took it in after it had been recalled. The Quick Lube place on the hill behind the dealership is so much better. I also talked to them about getting my car refinanced and they talked to me like I was stupid and below them. They tried to play a numbers game with me (increase principal, increase monthly payment, DECREASE interest rate - wow what a deal! I will end up paying $900 more during the life of the loan!), but I work in accounting so I wouldn't go for it and that's when nice became mean, demeaning, and condescending. I had storm out of there since the finance manager decided the he needed to insult my intelligence within a minute of meeting me. The next day they decided to redeem themselves by calling me two times on my cell phone, texting me twice and calling me at work. I had to insist -- actually YELL at them to get them to stop calling me. They also messed up on the initial paperwork back in 2008 when I bought my car. I would not recommend them to my worst enemy. Looks like it's going to be a nice facility though.

I believe now my business isn't good enough with hickory toyota. I went back to the dealership a couple days ago looking forward to the loyalty rewards and hoping to trade in for a lower payment. Instead I'm looking at carrying over 7k in negative equity and still carry same payments. The lower interest rate is still being promised but that is the only incentive. I had looked forward to getting to this point, but now i don't see that I 'am any better off.

Have purchased both of my Corolla's from here. Easy to deal with and not too pushy. Both Corollas have been rock solid for years so I can't yet comment on how they deal with their "lifetime" powertrain warranties - especially since I do my own maintenance. In regards to the powertrain, I've asked the "what if this breaks?" question to the service guys on a few different occasions and have gotten mixed responses so I'm not 100% confident they would handle the issues as they should. Ask for details on this warranty, get it on paper if you can. Very early on my 2014 Corolla ended up with a missing a plastic piece on the cowl cover. It's mainly cosmetic and only $20 to replace but I only noticed it missing after a service. The service center said they don't have to remove that piece for service, which is probably true, but it still could have been knocked loose. Either way, I only noticed it after a service so it would have been nice to at least get it at cost. The service center tried to sell my wife on a air filter/cabin filter replacement 500 miles after I changed them both myself, so I don't really appreciate the upsell mentality when in for a simple oil change, but it is what it is. Luckily she called to ask if she needed it first.

First,I know this is long but I believe in buyer beware. It all started when me and my grandmother went to buy me a car at Mike Johnsons. We were talked into a straw purchase at another dealership and we were not aware of what this was so we wanted to get the car in my name as well. We worked with Kent and Andy and we decided on a new camry. Going in there were a few hicuups, there was a payment showing late with Toyota on the current vehicle which we proved was not late by showing our bank statement to Toyota. We were assured though that we were ok so we went in to sign. Where you used to sign carbon copies, that doesn't happen anymore, you actually sign on a giant ipad the size of the desk. After being there for 5 hours we were done for. We were ready to sign so the gentleman that assisted us with this is taught very well to rush you through everything and enlarges the signature area which covers most of what you should be reading. We really messed up because we thought we read the contract in detail but after getting home we realized that we signed a contract that included $4000 in add on warranties and such on a brand new car mind you. So now its time to go home, they give us a great tutorial on how to use the car and tell us it is ours. Fast forward to Monday and they tell us there is a problem in finance and that we need to give it time to be worked out. Tuesday rolls around and we are told to bring the car back that financing fell through due to the late payment. Crushed, I couldn't understand why we have a signed contract in hand yet they want it back. So, I contacted our lawyer and he handled the situation for us all while we were threatened to be arrested for not returning the car that day. I have emails to prove the threats. THe next day my attorney contacted them and their attorney and they send over something that lead to the truth. We were led on to believe the car was ours when in reality it was a spot delivery. They turned in a form we supposedly signed stating we would return the car if financing fell through but its funny they didn't include that form in all of our paperwork. Again we were threatened with being arrested which scared my grandmother. Our attorney told their attorney we would return their car that evening but we would like our $2500 down payment back which he was told we would. On our way there he berated me on the phone and said I had been shopping at other dealers in "HIS" car which he got the information from our finance company. When we got there they did not have our check because we came after 5 and the guys that write the checks were gone for the day. I then made Andy the Manager signed a form stating they would bring the check to us the next day which they did. But when we were ready to leave and retrieve our keys they only had one and we know for a fact we left both there and unfortunately they had to have lost it. I asked them to make it right but Andy refused. Well a week later I called to speak with a manager and no one was available. A little later I got a call back from andy after I told the receptionist I did not want to speak with him specifically because he had been very condescending and rude to me several times throughout this experience. Well as we are discussing the missing key I asked him to make the whole situation right by them making another key for me. He then proceeds to start being rude and condescending again saying things like you are the one that made a straw purchase at the other dealership and saying well if you are going to review us you need to tell the whole story. Those were his exact words. In the end I did not get a new car and I'm now out a key that they lost and refuse to make me another one. We don't deserve all of this bad customer service and being talked to so rudely just because the deal did not go through. So please steer clear of this dealership and its employees.

We took our 2015 Tundra 1794 edition to be service for a battery problem and a slight pull to the left. The truck was realigned and a new battery installed. The battery was replaced and installed free of charge.

As we were leaving just after closing time we ask about improving the picture quality on the back up camera. Our service manager/consultant Tabitha Lainey Brown walked us out to our truck and showed us how to adjust the camera settings to get an excellent picture.

Tabitha is always friendly and helpful. She and everyone we have worked with at Mike Johnson's Toyota have been great to work with.

I came by Mike Johnson's just to LOOK at a Toyota 4Runner. Well in three days to my surprise we owned one. lol No not because the salesman was pushy, just because it was just what I wanted. Everything just fell into place! "If it's meant to be it will be." Stephen Marsh was our salesman. He was wonderful! I have no complaints about him! He did a awesome job! Only negative I can say would be with the finance manager we dealt with. My Husband was not at all happy with him. He was pushy and seemed to get mad because we did not take the extra coverage on the 4Runner. His name was Chris H. Our daughter bought a Rav4 last year and the finance manager(male) she had was wonderful! So this being said about this one person, Chris is NOT a reflection on any of the other staff! everyone else we came in contact with was very nice and helpful! Beware. After we agreed on a price they slipped in my down payment as money for them to pocket. I paid $2000 down and it did not come off the price. They pocketed the money and changed the contract to where I had taken a loan out for $2000 more. Crooks. I can blame myself for not reading every line of the 500 pages I had to sign in 15 minutes. The vehicle itself is great but will not be going to this dealership ever again.

When I arrived at the dealership, Ashley informed me that it would take an hour to change my car's oil and rotate the tires due to not having that many mechanics at this time. I informed her that I had stopped at the upper shop on the hill and that there were several employees just standing around talking. We went and sat down. Just a few minutes past and Ashley came to me and stated that she them take my vehicle to the upper shop and that it would be ready shortly.
While waiting, several other people with vehicle there for oil change stated that they never get out under an hour. Thirty minutes later Ashley came and got us stating that my vehicle was ready.
**Thank you Ashley for taking care of your customers and dong the right thing** This employee went the extra mile to take care of us, "THANKS".

Initial contact with sales person was Justin. He was nice, usual salesperson at the start. Looked at pics online as dealer 90 mins away from me. In picture looked like there was a scratch on dash and Justin said they would repair. It ended up being a huge crack on the whole dash which he never told me about--I had to see it myself. Justin and managers would not go lower than the price that was on the website--they said it was lowest they could go. After bringing the the used 4Runner back after having it checked out by mechanic, decided not to proceed with it. There was a large crack in dash that the dealer would not fix and a couple of minor things. This is the worst I have ever experienced in a dealership...the price on this SUV was lowered $1000 over night on the dealer site and Auto Trader and when Justin asked if we were taking it we told him of the lower price. Justin got ugly and rude and said "no way, prove it to me"! We said okay, and he said he didn't believe us and held the door open for us and said Goodbye! WOW!! Walked to car to leave and managers Chris and Andy came out behind us, to smooth things over. They tried, but damage was done. Too bad, as it really was a nice SUV.

I have purchased 3 cars from Mike Johnson and have taken all 3 to have them serviced there since 2005. Educated, no pressure service. Every time I have gone back to get a new car they sit with me and go over all my options and what is best for my budget. No pressure ever to buy if I did not want too. As for the service, I do not get pressured to do any work that is unnecessary to the vehicle at that time. Loyal to this dealership until they give me a reason not to be.

I have unfortunately had the opportunity to search for several cars over the years due to various situations. I've been to several used car lots as well as big dealers but never to Hickory Toyota. I finally wised up and decided to get myself a Toyota. Mike Johnson Toyota is the only car lot I have ever been to that felt like they weren't just trying to get people in and churn a profit. The very atmosphere at Hickory Toyota is one of friendliness and a pride in the product they are selling. This is something that I have never found at any of the car lots I have been to. I was even further impressed by the efforts Dwayne Willix and Greg Willis went to to get me into an excellent vehicle at an excellent price. Dwayne and Greg provided me with an amazing experience and excellent service in an industry that is notorious for providing the opposite. Not only did these two earn my business today...they will certainly have my business years down the road when I need another vehicle. Do yourself a favor, skip all the shady car lots you think you'll find a good deal on, save yourself headache and drama, and just head to Mike Johnson's Hickory Toyota. You won't regret it.

I just financed a Toyota Highlander after dealing with Brenda Boggs on Wednesday. Dealing with her and meeting her was a fantastic experience. Had she not been so helpful and kept from being pushy, I would not have gone forward with my sale. She was kind and knowledgeable and took care of me the whole way. I have already begun recommending her to anyone I know looking for a car!

I don't know if these reviews are true or false like TV advertisements, but sure didn't seem to continue to be all that nice to me after I gave them an offer for a car that was tested 15 times and not sold. I was a returning customer too!
Any dealer can take/make an exceptional offer if you're willing to stand up for yourself.
Update:2/7/19 I did end up buying a Toyota from another dealership. Meanwhile a week later too late, Hickory Toyota matched my offer. In about 6 years I'll be back again.

I purchased my RAV4 from here several years ago which was a reasonably good experience. However, I ll have to say I don t trust the service department. I know it s their job to make recommendations on regular maintenance but don t tell me my brakes are metal on metal when they aren t. I have a local mechanic that I use and trust who looked at my brakes immediately after leaving Hickory Toyota and I am not running metal on metal. The only reason I took my car to the dealership (which is about 20 miles from my house) was because I received a coupon in the mail for 3 oil changes. The first 19.95, second 17.95 and third 15.95. First time using the coupon, no problem. Second time I was charged the full amount, then had to remind the service person that I had given him the coupon. I was about to leave and realized that I needed my coupon back for my third oil change, and when I asked for it he had to dig out of the trash! Same for the third, would have been charged the full amount if I hadn t reminded the girl and she had the coupon in front of her. Then looking at my receipt is like having to decipher a foreign language. I see labor costs and parts cost, then a discount (assuming it s my coupon) but after subtracting the discount, I come no where close to a $15.95 oil change. I know there is tax and a disposal fee but how does that come to over $30? I think I m done with the service department at Mike Johnson s Hickory Toyota.

Thanks to Shawn Mae & his crew that got our Toyota Tacoma back into running safe after some critters made home on the top of the gas tank and were chewing hoses. It took a few hours to finally find the problem thinking it was related to the gas cap but after more testing they found the nest. When I went to pick up car I was expecting the usual dealership mess. What a pleasant surprise . Everything went so smooth and I was in and out in no time. I went to the dealership on Monday for oil change and breaks. Brenda was the person helping us that day. She went above and beyond!!! She was great!!!! Our van was done in less than an hour and my kids love the popcorn and drinks.
