Such a wonderful place. In the middle of the city you can experience some of the finest music the world has ever seen.
Wonderful theater, excellent acoustics and first rate stagecraft.
A must see for everyone. Money or looks are not a excuse, you can get tickets as cheap as 32$. My best value for money expent at NY.
They play operas here. I especially enjoy hearing the violins. But they have all kinds of instruments too. If you like musical instruments and also singing this is the place for you!
Beautiful facilities it is almost a lifetime experience and a great honor to be and there I'm very lucky and fortunate to see the ballet I have
Still the greatest Opera company in the US
A huge auditorium, but the superb singers and magnificent orchestra are more than up to the challenge. This is Grand Opera at it's grandest.
Such a nice experience. The building is gorgeous and the opera is fantastic. I watched Cosi Fan Tutte (my first opera) and loved it. They have subtitles right in front of each seat, making it easy to understand the story. I look forward to coming back for the next one.
Great show of Figaro. Great seating in Partir section.
Is a place that has to be visited at least once in your life. Great historic building, beautiful amphitheatre. You don't need to understand the language of the Opera, every seat is equipped with a personal screen with subtitles in different languages (English, Italian, Spanish, German). Don't be afraid of the cost, if you look, there are some affordable tickets. Ask for the standing options. Good price vs location.
Excellent place to visit for a play. Spectacular stage presentation . Beautiful architectural building. I went to see "The Wedding Of The Mikado" and "Figaro"
One of the most iconic Opera Houses in the world. It is extremely beautiful, and I got to see one of Renee Flemming's first performances here many, many years ago. I do wish they were more interesting/braver in their programming, but it is absolutely worth your visit and particularly so if you've never seen an opera before!
In some ways, it's hard to "review" an opera house. Frankly, it's hard to review any theater. What are you reviewing it for? The architecture ? The sound? The sightlines? The Metropolitan Opera House is one of America's iconic cultural facilities. From the Chagall paintings to the sweeping staircase, it is one of the more recognizable theaters in America. All the technical aspects of the hall are quite good. You can see well from nearly all the seats, and, with a few exceptions (such as the very back of the Orchestra seats), the sound is excellent. It seems a bit dated now in its design, but I suppose that's inevitable once a "modern" building becomes not so new..
Saw a great performance of Giselle tonight in between peeks at a chapter I'm rereading in my wonderful book, Words at War (Scarecrow Press.) Then my flashlight lost power.
Aida was Incredible. Absurdly long lines for beverages.
The Opera House is definitely a must see, even if you aren't a fan of Opera. It is a beautiful place. Now, about the Opera itself, it is known as one of the best, if not the best, and that should say enough. If you were ever curious to go to one, this is the place to go. If you like or love Opera and can afford it, get partierre seats. It is always an amazing experience.
WOW it is a wonderful place and a house of opera. Absolutely magnificent building and hall.
My dream has always been to sing at The Met. I had an audition during this visit, but I could not resist going into the gift shop, and speaking with other visitors. Take a tour!
The Opera was magnificent my granddaughter was truly grateful for the experience
One of the best places in earth to enjoy from live music and theatrical acting and dances. Great opera's recreations from the best composers. It is a myth if you are planning to enter with a tuxedo; just don't come in with shorts.
The staging of Carmen was spectacular. The last scene rotating from outside to inside the bull fighting arena was brilliant.
Iconic place to see an Opera. Even the upper tier has nice view. The drinks and snacks are crazy pricey though, even for NYC.
Disclosure: I'm sometimes paid to work here. It's America's premiere opera house, and one of the greatest in the world. Acoustically, there's not a bad seat in the house, and the cheapest seats get some of the best sound. Visually, you can be pretty far away, so bring opera glasses (or rent them on site). Tickets can be pricey, but there are options for cheap seats with a lottery as well as inexpensive standing room. Every seat or standing-room location gets its own titles screen, which can be turned off, if desired.
Was privileged to see a performamce of La Boheme on Sep 29th 2018. Wonderful cast Grigolo/Car/Blue in the great classic Zefferilli priduction. The view from orchestra Q row centre was clear. The acoustics were superb. Highly recommend to all.
It was very quiet, and the seats were very comfy. They also had translations if you need assistance on what the actors are saying. The tickets were expensive (For me) but overall it was worth it.
Great feeling to be in touch with one the best theatres in the world
Went to see the Magic Flute. Sat all the way in the too if the family circle, a bit far but the Opera glasses helped out. The sound is amazing up there, better the in the balcony or dress circle. A word of caution, if you attend a "children's" Opera like the Magic Flute or Hansel and Gretel this section gets "busy".
It IS the Met, so of course it is great. This will be my third year as a subscriber. My seats are way up high, but that is supposed to be the best area for sound and the cost averages well under $30 per ticket.
Premiere opera house in New York City. The best of the best perform here.
box 29, seat 2
"best seat in the house" said the usher as she unlocked the door.
Beautiful opera house, acoustics really carry the sound of each singer and the orchestra all the way to the back of the hall. Subtitles are available at each seat and are designed so that you cannot see your neighbors screen, so as not to be distracted. The production of Large Fille du Regiment was phenomenal, bravo to the cast and orchestra !
Impeccable decor, spectacular show, (even easily accessible via metro), what's not to love about this place?
My wife and I regularly go to live streamings of your performances in our local cinema in Rugby, UK. We enjoy them greatly and are currently enjoying the on-line streamings at home during the suspension of the previously announced programme.
We were very pleased at the prospect of this evenings' live performances from around the world and so it is with great regret that we have to say how disappointed we both were with the quality of sound. It ranged between poor and dreadful for most of the items in the first two hours and after that we switched off. Among the few exceptions were the orchestral items and the violin solo, the Meditation.
We warmly applaud the idea of the live event but the technology let you down very badly indeed and served the artists very badly. For the cinema screenings we would give you full marks but for this evening it has to be a single star.
How can you possibly rate and review the Metropolitan Opera House? Its the Met, period!
Lincoln Center is top notch. The Metropolitan Opera is one of the best operas in the world. You know how you get to the Metropolitan Opera? Practice practice practice
Ticket sales are a rip off. I purchased "range" seating for $350 in hopes of getting an ok spot, instead I was issued last row that I could have got for $90. I asked if I could be compensated and was told "range seating includes last row." So I paid just about 4x the amount for last row. Not worth it. A suggestion would be not to include the cheaper seats in the range of possible seating.
Seats not too bad. Acoustics good. Large theatre so splurge for seats close to stage
Came to see Madama Butterfly, it was a beautiful performance! Everything was absolutely beautiful. Amazing stage set and singers, I cried. Sadly, the americans don't know how to behave themselves in the opera so I shall provide a few tips for your next visit.
- Stay home if you're sick (coughing or making gross noises with your nose)
- Do NOT eat during the performance, it's loud and irritating.
- Don't speak during the Performance ?! Why do people speak??
- Leave your 3-8 year old kids at home if they cant behave
- Don't kick the seat infront of you
- Don't come late when the performance already started its disrespectful af.
- Last but not least, it's extremely rude to run out before even giving applause to the singers.
Thank you
Always a pleasure to watch opera there. Easy to access by subway and bus.
Beautiful atmosphere and amazing architecture. The acoustics are incredible!
Beautiful space. Great acoustics. Incredible performances. Highly recommend!
On some performances, i thought it cannot really get any better than The Met Opera. I did see some real exquisite performances with them this season, with amazing performers, classic and impressive productions. These were the WOW performances:
La Boheme
Aida
Nabuco
L'Italiana in Algeri
However i was extremely disappointed of other productions:
Il Barbiere di Siviglia - a stage was build over the orchestra and totally damaged their sound in the theater. Also the production was way too dumb down, it just got boring, not as funny.
Romeo et Juliette - unfortunately the March 2017 cast had no chemistry between Romeo and Juliette. I did hear the earlier cast was a complete different experience.
Carmen - was just ok. Not a memorable experience.
I still love going so very very much, just wish i didn't have to be as picky going forward with the produces and performers I'll be going to see.
Carmen was amazing this season. As always opera at it's finest. Thank you Mr. Rockerfeller.
Trip of a lifetime. Seeing an opera live at The Met was a bucket list item. We saw Turnadot. We'd like to see Aida next year.
Saw Carmen - wonderful!
Tip - if getting a cheap seat - DO NOT sit in the top boxes unless you're right along the railing. Any further back & it's zero view. Lol and if you're afraid of heights, skip the railing seat - it's high!
It's a beautiful building, a bit dim for some phone cameras but just for seeing it's fantastic. Really nice reflecting pool near the back of the building as well. The overall complex is a really nice free place to take a stroll.
What an absolutly magical place to spend an evening! This is a definite must if your visiting NYC and the experience is priceless. Even if you think your not an opera fan I guarantee the stage production and overall experience alone will change your mind on that and you will have a great time!
A must go to place whether visiting or local. Some of the best operas are played here as well as the area itself. Beautiful historic must go to
Where else is there such a grand opera house in the middle of a congested city. This place is amazing. from the architectural stand point to the little screens translating the operas on every seat back.
Amazing experience....saw Swan Lake with Misty Copeland. Sat in Box 1.....view was partially blocked but still good seats!
Very beautiful, well done. If you are not familiar with opera houses, there's nothing that guides you to use the prompter for translated lyrics to the performance. Expect to pay a fortune for refreshments.
Was here to see Whipped Cream which didn't disappoint! It was such a beautiful ballet. Whole performance was simply eye candy. Balcony seats I found better than orchestra seats from when I saw Romeo and Juliet in the winter. Would totally recommend Whipped Cream but it was only available for a short run. Theater is big but easy to find your seat. Everyone is helpful and nice about making sure everyone is seated before the show. Very clean too.
Amazing performances and operas. I recommend going there.
If you are a performing arts enthusiast, it's a must visit
My goodness, this was an INCREDIBLE night! Awesome!!!
OMG! Greatest experience of my life. Great introduction to the Opera. This is why you positively Love NYC.
Classically design opera house with top-notch performance. I was at the orchestra premium aisle T1 for my first opera watching Madama Butterfly. I really enjoy the show with digital transcript in front of me. Magnificent experience.
Such a great place. Some of the best performances I've seen. It never disappoints! And always having tickets in the reasonable price ranges
A must go when you are into fine arts. The building complex itself is an eyecatcher and the great hall ads even more flair. The service staff is the best I have witnessed in NYC so far. In a time, where even the smallest off-offbroadway play is covered with microphones, it is a relief to feel the natural voice with which the outstanding singers fill a room of nearly 4,000 people.
Beautiful place. I personally haven't seen a show there yet. But know people that have and people that work there. If you go try not to bring children under 6 yrs old or that can't sit still or behave thru a long show. You will be removed and you would have wasted your money. They have strict rules with anyone disrupting the shows.
Beautiful theater and a magnificent auditorium. I was in the family circle for my first opera and while it was definitely partial view, I had a very enjoyable experience. There is no food allowed in the auditorium so consume all food and beverage in the general areas. I am sharing pictures of the venue along with one of the menu the night I went. I do not know if their menu changes. I actually received the wrong sandwich but did not realize until I started consumption and there was not a lot of time to consume it after waiting in line. You may order food in advance for intermission, but I did not know about this option in advance. The dress code has drastically changed, however there is a mix in the crowd of fashionable, elegant and casual patrons. There is a restroom on almost each level and water fountains by the door. The gift shop is located next to the box office which I did not have the opportunity to check. Oh for those who do not make it back to their seat during intermission, they are not allowed back in until another intermission (posted signs)- there are warning bells so make your best judgement when preparing between the performance.
Really elegant venue, loved the decoration. Seats are not too comfortable as leg room is not spacious. Staff is friendly and efficient. Bar choices are good and wine is not too expensive. Loved that you can pay and order in advance to skip lines during intermission. WCs are clean and almost enough. A must when visiting New York City especially because their operas are all awesome! I saw Carmen and it was one of the best experiences ever. Tickets are pricey but shows are worth it.
Excellent place, we love the ballet. Staff are very helpful.
New York's number one opera house. this place has it all not just world-class acts but also an interesting architectural layout. Huge spaces. Great production value. top of the line talent coming from around the world just to perform here. you can even get deals on tickets if you do the rush and you are not too locked into what time you need to go to a show.
Surrounded by beauty, visually, Sound... It's an entire experience.
