I will never stay here again. The rooms were very worn down. I paid a premium for an ocean view and they put us in a half view, 1st floor room that was next to some sand courts of some sort. We had them move us to a true ocean view room. We were traveling with our two sons and stated that we needed two beds. They had us down for one bed. Our ocean view room was a sauna because the air conditioning didn't work. They "fixed" it the next day without even suggesting some sort of credit for our miserably hot evening. That evening, around 2AM, the air conditioner started making horrific noises. We mentioned that it still had problems when we left for the entire day, of which they said they would have someone fix it. They never sent anyone to our room and when we got home that evening it had stopped working and it was a sauna again. They sent a mechanic to our room at 10PM. The kids and I laid in our bed waiting for them to finish because we were exhausted and wanted to go to bed. The two mechanics were disagreeing about what was wrong with it. One mechanic thought a certain mechanism had to be replaced, of which they were out of because they had to replace it in another room earlier that day. The other mechanic was adamant that he could get it working w/out the part. He was finally able to get it going, only for it to shut down and not turn back on a few hours later. Our room was a sauna again. When I checked out the next morning, I refused to pay for the final evening. Keep in mind we had 3 evenings of trying to sleep in a sauna. The manager flat out said "no". He gave us a credit for $165.29 for one night and a credit for $187 for the 3rd night. I know that is something and that something is better than nothing, but if he wanted us to ever return again, he should of been apologetic, which he wasn't and he should have offered, at a bare minimum, to split the tab with us for just the rooms. We spent a small fortune on eating and drinking while at their hotel. We were more than happy to pay for the things we enjoyed, such as the food (which was really good) and the drinks (which were really expensive $17 for a tangeray and tonic). We had fun, but the actual room component was a complete let down.

Beautiful entry and grounds. Places for the kids to run and play. Walking distance to the harbor. Food, drinks and service is amazing! Very clean. Personable staff! We treated my father to the spa, he had only great things to say about his experience.

Fantastic venue for large events. Fantastic service by EVERYONE!! The spa was great and my masseuse was amazing. So many people went out of their way to make us feel welcomed.

There are so many nice places nearby with walking distance.

We will definitely be back for another stay-cation.

Stayed here for a work conference. Food was good, rooms nice and comfy. Shower had a high pitched noise that was annoying but I could deal with it. The fitness center has free weights, some weight machines and lots of cardio machines and is open 24hrs. The beach is in walking distance which is also awesome! Lots of places to shop and eat close by as well.

First off their location is amazing. Views are spectacular for sure. But...we were sound asleep and the alarm goes off and someone speaking over the loud speaker. That went in for a couple minutes. Then stopped. Then it went on again! We were in 1st floor with a quick exit door near pool so we didn't move. The again the speaker person blaring saying no emergency and went on for 2 more minutes on how it's not an emergency. Sleep there was impossible. And then a note under the door in the morning apologizing. Really? A free night was appropriate, the amount the charged for this room was high way to very for this to occur without compensation. Not a happy customer for sure

Beautiful property, but the room amenities have a lot to be desired. Tiny shampoo and conditioner and body lotion. That s it. Not even any Q-tips, cotton balls, shower caps. No slippers available and you can t even put water in the
refrigerator because if you break the tab you re paying for something. Very disappointed. Furniture getting on the old side.

Beautiful resort! Stayed here with my family for a few days after we attended my niece's wedding. Everything you could want was available. Drinks by the pool, room service at any hour and a mini golf course! They had shuttles down to the water with free surfboard rentals. Great views of Dana Point you can enjoy all day. Would absolutely stay again!

They stole my $250 dress!!

They stole my $250 dress!!
My mother and I met booked a night at the hotel and I brought with me 2 brand new dresses (Tadashi) to return the following day. But we forgot it at the room and we called them the same day but the staff on the phone was so rude and blamed us for forgetting the dresses instead of helping us. We had to use verbal threat in order for the them to help. the following day we received a call that miraculously the dresses appeared. When we arrived, they only gave us one dress and they don t what happened to the other one. We called the Police to report the incident because obviously the housekeeper stole both dresses and was forced to return one of them. The manager, Jordan Holland, was a sad excuse for human being, rude, used offensive racial slurs and refused to cooperate. Marriott should be ashamed of hiring low lives thieves who steal from their guests!!! Also there was another incident. Our reservation included breakfast for 2 and when we checked it in, they didn t give us the breakfast coupon and charged for the breakfast and when we brought it to their attention to adjust the charges, they said that they would refund the breakfast charge but it was all lies!!!
My advice is DO NOT STAY THERE!!! They are rude and will rob you blind!!!!
I have stayed at the Hyatt and the Hilton multiple times before and never ever were we disrespected or treated like that

This is a beautiful hotel, surrounded by breathtaking views of the ocean and green space. Several walking/jogging paths. The grounds are pristine and the service was wonderful. Every person from the valet to front desk check in to the pool staff was professional and friendly. The rooms were spacious and newly updated. Our only regret was that we could not stay longer.

Well If you think the beautiful view that you get from any room at the resort isn't enough, the super friendly and helpful staff will be sure to put a smile on your face. Me and my fiance' had the time of our lives here last week and it was a great way to introduce us to the state of california!

I stayed here for a wedding in late October, I will say that until checkout everything was pretty nice. A bit annoying that there is no parking and you have to valet ($30), but whatever I knew that going in. Upon checking out I noticed a $250 fee added on my room, so I contacted the operator and was transferred over to the hotel manager. She (I wish I could remember her name) informed me that the charge was for smoking on my hotel patio. She goes on to tell me that I was warned three times for smoking on the patio. Simply false, nobody ever mentioned anything to me about smoking, one big reason for this? My wife and I do not smoke. I should point out that security did talk to me more than once for noise (I had a bluetooth speaker in the room), so I believe this is why the charge was added and it was disguised as a 'smoking fee'. I assume they have no policy in place to charge people for having a blue tooth speaker on and as such decided to slap me with the smoking fee.
Anyways, after trying to speak with the manager cordially for ~10 minutes and coming to the realization that she wasn't going to take the charge off, I got pissed and let her have a piece of my mind. At this point, she says "if you were a little nicer to me I would have taken off the charge". I've disputed the charge with my credit card company and have now filed a complain with the BBB.

Very nice room, but didn't receive the one we had reserved. The bar charged me for an extra drink and the bartender had been quite inattentive to pretty much everyone there. Also the drinks pour ratio is terrible considering the prices. The ice machines are kept in unmarked closets. The staff and view were the only redeeming quality about my stay. Staff: very very kind nothing bad to say at all, besides the bartender. View is quite beautiful and nice breeze flowed into the room.

We stayed here for 4 nights over the Memorial weekend where they were busy due to the busy holiday and the few weddings going on, but we still enjoyed our stay, where the service overall was excellent: they were friendly, helpful, the bell, valet and room service was the best, the pool and hot tub was to the point, but relaxing with a wonderful ocean view.

For the price, it is very reasonable in compared to other luxury hotels like the Montage, Four Seasons, but valet (overnight) parking was convenient, however a little steep ($37 per night) and if you wanted to save on the parking fee, you would have to walk up a hill, even if you are disabled.

Overall, it was enjoyable experience and we would stay at this Marriott location again.

My wife and I recently spent a weekend at the Laguna Cliffs Marriott to celebrate our first wedding anniversary, granted we used points to stay here but we did take make mental notes during our stay that led us to consider a future weekend getaway in a couple of months.

First off the staff at the front desk and the concierge are polite, professional, and very friendly. They were aware of our anniversary during our stay and we were treated to a complimentary breakfast. Definitely opt for the buffet breakfast, which is quite a spread.

Though we did have rainy weather during our weekend, we did take advantage of the amenities at this lovely resort. The gym is pretty nice for a hotel and it has a great, open and airy feel. If you need snacks, toiletries or whatnot, there s a gift shop near the front desk area that s stocked with stuff.

The rooms are definitely nicely remodeled with wood floors and nice little decorative touches that let you know you re at the coast. Bathroom is large, though I still don t understand the need for a bathtub-shower combo unless it s for a family.

Once the weather cleared, the view was great from our room. But during the rain, we enjoyed Netflix on the large wall-mounted Flat panel. The internet connection is decent if you re a Marriott Elite member.

The hotel has walkways that lead to the marina at the bottom of the hill. I suggest not going in the rain. True story.

The pool and spa are saltwater and chlorine based and there are towels aplenty for use.

All in all we didn t know what to expect with this hotel atop a hill, but were pleasantly surprised and already planning our next stay.

Overpriced and pretentious.
I paid for coastal view and got a view of trees. Two weeks before my stay somebody from their front desk left a message for me and when I called back nobody knew about the reason of the call, or the person that called. Just wasted 30 minutes of my Sunday.

Nice hotel upon the beach on a cliff. New renovated rooms. Valet parking expensive. Spa wil charched extra on top. A hook in the balcony for wet swim wear in a resort would be helpful. ;)
Nice friends staff. Poorly soundproofed rooms/ windows /doors

A consistent fun place for us to visit on a yearly basis. Make sure you ask for a room with a balcony as the "full ocean view" are only viewable through small windows.

Great place for kids with a pool and several activities in a close-by area. Doheny beach just below the hotel is a great place for beginning surfers... But be careful as it's very rocky.

Location is great, near a few restaurants and the beach. Service has been extremely friendly from everyone and I love how the rooms are designed--clearly built with the guest in mind in terms of lighting, layout, power plugs, all those small details.

Meanest nastiest valet service I have ever experienced. Fortunately the valet service is a separate business from the hotel because the hotel is beautiful... food is fantastic and the staff is wonderful. If you are just going there for dinner or lunch park in the parking lot below and walk so you don't have to deal with the miserable valet. The hotel is five star I only gave it four Star because if you are staying there you're stuck with the nasty valet service. It would behoove the hotel to make a change

The more modest little sister to the nearby Ritz. Pleasant, quiet, roomy but not sure if the property has ever been renovated. Staff is friendly, easy access by car and lots of things to do and see within driving distance. I don't think they are ever full. The weather was spectacular so maybe that also contributed to my positive experience.

Went for the 4th of July event and it was very nice and well organized. Great view of the fireworks at Dana Point and San Clemente. They had a buffet earlier in the day as part of the viewing package with hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken, and even all you can eat steak. All were average, steak probably would have been pretty good if you got it right off the grill. By far the best thing they had was the made to order mac and cheese station. Nice selection of cheeses and meats to put in it like shrimp, ham, scallops, and crab. I got the mozzarella and shrimp mac and cheese and it was amazing. They also had a nice dessert bar with 4 chocolate fountains, regular, red, white, and blue. They had apple pie, ice cream, cookies, and a selection of mini cakes. Throughout the evening they had a live band playing to entertain. It was a great way to spend the 4th and I'd highly recommend it.

We didn't actually stay at this hotel, just had a massage here. My fiancee and I were in town to celebrate our anniversary, so we booked the "Romantic Retreat" package, to include a 60 minute couples massage, followed by 30 minutes in the private hot tub. The service itself was fantastic! The massage therapists were top-notch and listened to our needs, wants, and our specific preferences. The private suite with private hot tub was incredible--such a relaxing, romantic experience! Overall I felt like it was definitely worth what we paid for it. The only reason I'm docking them a star, is the pressure at the front desk relating to tipping. I'm spending $375 before tip for this experience, so when I get to the front desk and I'm told the standard tip is 20% ($75!), taking me to $450, I was a bit taken aback. Then, when I asked to just tip $20 to each massage therapist, I was asked "Oh my, were you dissatisfied with your service!?" No, I just don't think I need to tip $75 when I'm already spending $375! Just felt like a guilt trip that I didn't need after such a relaxing experience--really harshed the vibe at the tail-end of what was supposed to be a relaxing, romantic time. All-in-all I still felt like it was worth it, but the pressure/guilt/shame trip surrounding the tipping situation felt really awkward, and totally avoidable.
