I went there for the engagement ring for my wife. It was a great experience. She picked out a ring she loved, the prices were fair. And the carry nice things for all price ranges. I would go back!
I feel like we walked in on a bad day, which by no means is an excuse for this store. The staff ignored my fiance and I for the first ten minutes as we browsed the store, and then when they did acknowledge us they provided service like we were impeding on their personal time (it was an hour before closing, if it was fifteen minutes before closing, I'd be more understanding). This is one of the few times I have actually left the house during this global pandemic and it seemed Independent Jewellers business plan is to treat customers as if they are a waste of space. If that is your business plan, keep it up, your staff are nailing it.
I have never felt so worthless as a customer, I've had better customer service at McDonald's - those are the real MVPs as they make way less money than IJ staff and actually give a damn about the customer.
I have been here a total of 5 times in the past couple of months. Every time we enter, we are warmly greeted by anyone who notices us. I have fallen in love with an engagement ring here, got it, and the experience with the sweet and patient Bonita was a pleasure. We recently came here again on 3 separate occasions after that.
The most recent visit, a few days ago, was us coming in to look for complementing wedding band for my engagement ring. We had bought my wedding band at a mall jewellery store on a whim a few weeks ago, before finding my engagement ring. They didn't match and I wanted a Canadian brand/diamonds. Sammy helped us this time at IJ, and she was so kind on helping me try on whatever I wanted to find the look I wanted, no matter our budget, much like everyone else before her on our previous visits. When we found the one I loved, we let her know our situation of wanting to return the other one we had from the other store. They don't do returns on purchases, but we were able to put $50 down to save the ring on layaway, and if we couldn't return the other (store) ring, we could come back and get our $50 back. This was all to save it for myself in the meantime. It was much appreciated!
As for pricing (a huge factor of shopping for jewellery): my 14k white gold 0.20CTW wedding band from a mall store was $1000. I got a 14k white gold 0.15CTW Canadian wedding band here for $500. The slightest change in diamond CTW should not have a ring jump up so much! The prices here beat the countless number of stores I've been to. I got my Canadian Rocks engagement ring for $1700 from its retail price/what it was worth!
TL;DR: One of the best businesses I have ever dealt with, personable and knowledgable staff, no pressure, extremely fair prices and amazing quality products and local - I will always go to Independent Jewellers for any jewellery/watch.
I wish there was a store like independent in my city. Came in last week and Kelly was so patient and so nice. My husband and I are very happy with the service and the selection.
I have been there once, for buying a gift for my wife. I liked a couple of rings and necklaces and clicked their pictures along with prices, just to show my better half for selection. Though she liked the objects but was overwhelmed by the high prices. And she being quite knowledgeable about this type of stuff, I had to agree when my significant half says, Are not they OVER CHARGING .
I mean over priced is more appropriate word!

I ordered two wedding bands on Dec 21st and they promised to have the ring within one week. I called on Jan 2nd and they told me they will receive the ring by the end of January. We are leaving at the beginning of February for our wedding. This is totally ridiculous! And the lady on the phone is not helpful and not friendly and try to push you away and cut you through while the customer is talking. They don't provide good service once you put an order there!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I took my diamond ring in to have a missing baguette replaced, as well as the channels build-up. When I picked up my ring a week later I was so surprised how great it looked! I ordered an engagement ring online (thanks to current circumstances, Independent's storefront is closed for the time being), and they personally delivered the ring to the door! Not only that, after opening up the ring, and realizing that it needed to be resized, they came back THE SAME DAY, resized it, and then delivered it again, a few days later.
I expected great service, but we ended up receiving something far beyond what anyone could typically reasonably expect, especially during these crazy times.
Thanks again for the amazing service, the friendly and outgoing attitude, and for making something special simpler and easier, when everything else is just that much more difficult.

TLDR; I will continue to bring my jewelry there as they are great with them but no longer bring my watches.
I write this review with reservations - I must first say that Independent Jewellers are great for jewelry. They have done fantastic work with both my own and my wife's jewelry. However, this review is more intended for watches.
As a watch collector, I have various pieces and have gone to IJ a couple times with them. The first time I was off-put was when both the retail ladies AND the watchmaker had never heard of Jaeger-LeCoultre when I brought mine in... that was a HUGE red flag so I took it back without having them work on it (it is 1 of 50,000 produced, so quite rare and didn't want them to service it). Another example was when I brought in my $1500 Longines and the retail lady was handling it (and almost dropped it) like it was a Swatch or Timex... my palms were sweating as I was so worried she was going to drop/scratch it the entire time she had it in her possession. Lastly, I've also asked whether or not they would be able to work on my Nomos and they had absolutely no clue what a Nomos was. (Just as a side note, some of the staff have a superiority-complex and it is quite obvious as soon as you enter the store. It is quite off-putting).
I understand that JLC, Longines & Nomos are not as commonly known as luxury watches but they are just as expensive and complex as say a Rolex (which everybody knows) and as "Alberta's largest jewelry store/repair", I would expect that they know them.
Jared's knowledge, help, patience and courtesy is amazing. My greatest thanks for the top service. I will definitely be back.
My experience with Independent Jewellers was wonderful. I was looking around Edmonton to remove my wedding ring (there was no way to remove by myself at home). Finally my friend recommend IJ as the best place to do that (his wife Renata works there) It was months of uncomfortable feeling on my finger and only 5 seconds job at Independent Jewellers to make me feel happy. What a relief. Wonderful experience. Renata and Heather took care of me in very professional way at the same time with very friendly atmosphere. I have to admit also that I landed up in service at IJ during difficult Covid- 19 situation. Store and staff providing fully protection for their customers. There is hand sanitize everywhere, 2 meters distance and everyone in store is wearing mask (I couldn t see their smiles but I could hear it their voice tone ). I recommend this place to everyone. It was my first time but definitely not the last one. Renata promised me Independent Jewellers will do amazing job with bringing my wedding ring to life Thank you once again and see you soon.

I initially bought a Swarovski ring from the Swarovski store in Southgate. The item wasn't included in the sale and the smallest size they had was a 6. I needed a 5. The next day I called Independent Jewellers to ask for the exact same ring if they have it on my size. I spoke to David and he said they do, but only one is left. I asked if he could put a hold on it as I will drive by that afternoon. He said yes and also said that the item is actually for 40% off. Which is a bonus! I walked in and was immediately assisted by one staff and when I mentioned that David put a hold on a ring for me, she paged him and when he didn't come within a minute she went looking for him. He was actually in the back room. When she came out she had my ring and I loved it. This shopping experience was a breeze. The staff is super friendly as well, be it either in person or in phone. I would definitely come back for another great shopping experience!
I had two rings repaired in January( One sized, new gem and reclawed and second new base for diamond and reclawed). After my daughter wearing that ring for 6 weeks the one claw came off. I returned and ring was repaired, warranty covered the cost and the customer service was excellent.
Last week I noticed my claw on my diamond ring had come loose. I returned to get it repaired under the warranty. I brought the ring to the service desk and told them that my claw had let go. She took my ring to the jewelers and then pasted me on to another employee. This lady accused me of purposely damaging my ring. I was very frustrated to be treated this way. It was at this point another employee took over and resolved the problem. My ring was covered under the warranty and they fixed it and is returned to me.
I will never bring any jewelry to get fixed here for the fact the both rings I brought in for repairs failed within 4 months. All their employees need to know how to deal with warranty work and be kind.
Don't let looks fool you. The storefront may not look like a Tiffany's or Birk's but the service, quality, and people are amazing! Very well priced.
My fiance and I had our engagement ring custom designed here. The process was incredibly fast and easy. There was plenty of two-way communication between us and the business while designing the ring and we were kept well informed along the way.
We were helped out along the way by Stephanie who had great, in-depth knowledge of the jewelry and the custom-made process. Stephanie spotted several areas for improvement to the ring throughout the design process, things that my fiance and I would have never been able to spot let alone have the knowledge to make an informed decision on.
Really can't say enough about how great the process and customer service was. We felt confident and at-ease through the whole process of consultation, design, and purchase of our custom engagement ring!
Wanted a gold chain for my wife and a custom 18k gold ring with rubies. There was literally "No" selection of gold chains available and was ignored when inquired about having the ring made. Apparently I didn't look affluent enough. Certain female staff have superiority complex. Customers judged walking through the door. Confusion reigns when you walk through the door about who is helping who and who is going to help you. First and last visit.
Replaced the gasket on my Seiko for $10.50. Job was done in less than ten minutes. All good so far. Problem comes when you go to pay. They INSIST you provide name phone number etc. even for cash. If you are paying credit card they also want picture I.D. I refused and elected to pay cash and refused to provide phone, name etc.. Clerk was very hostile. Told me no name no warranty. Big woop! Had to ask for a receipt because she had no intention of providing one. Didn't say anything on the back of the receipt about needing all that for the one year warranty on watch repairs. Just said you need the bill.
I had to be very firm with the young Asian lady manning the Service desk. I remained polite but she was extremely aggressive. I will never go back because of her antagonistic attitude and poor service.
We are from out of town, decided to stop at Independent Jewellers just to "take a look". We were greeted by a friendly salesperson who seemed to know her stuff! We made a purchase and had the ring sized, and the rings I was wearing recoated(white gold), all done within a couple hours! I was very pleased with my experience.
My wife recently lost her engagement ring, we dealt with independent and Emily specifically throughout the claims process. Emily worked so hard for us and found us the perfect diamond and an even better setting than we originally had!
Couldn't be happier with how everything went and couldn't be more fortunate to deal with Emily in the process. Safe to say we will be life long customers.
I am so upset about what this company has done with my gemstones. I asked for them to be set in simple pendant basket settings, which they did, without taking even the most basic amount of care. There is rough silver on the prongs that wasn't filed down, the prongs holding the gems are not even or balanced, and worst of all, they put a long scratch into the top and side of a precious green tourmaline and didn't disclose it when I paid. Little to no care was taken in what should have been a simple job, I would not recomend this company to anyone, and I could not be more upset with what they have done to my gems.

The sales staff take the time to tell you EVERYTHING about each ring you desire to look at. They do not hide facts about ring maintenance or what goes into each ring, work, material, design they lay it all out for you. I was helped by Stephanie Glandon, she made my visit very special. She had amazing customer service and answered every question I had to my satisfaction. Independent Jewelers has such a massive selection its easy to get lost with all their sparkling inventory, I was glad their staff is so well trained to be there to guide your buying experience or let you browse alone at your own pace. We bought our rings a few years ago now, and every single time I go in I get attitude from one of the girls working. All I want is to come in and get my rings cleaned and checked. They make it such an unpleasant experience every time.
Very good customer service,poor workmanship when it comes to watches.I've been a loyal customer at this store for over 25 years now,and i am happy with the service and products.The only problem i have is with the Omega watch i purchased in 2005.After 18 months the crown came off.Went to the store and i've been told it will cost me approx.$500.00 to get it fixed by Omega.After a conversation with the owner he agreed to send it back to manufacturer for no extra charge.In 2015,time for new battery. Took it back,battery changed ,get home and the back cap falls off!!! This is a watch that is supposed to be water resistant. Is like letting a car out of the shop with no brakes!! Went back to get it done right.On April 21 2017 time for a new battery! got it replaced get home, guess what??........THE BACK CAP IS FALLING OFF!!!!!!!!!!! What is wrong with that guy in the back? I'm sorry guys but i'll have to take my business somewhere else when it comes to watches!

Horrible customer service. Instead of adding sizing beads as I requested they sized my ring down so it no longer fits. Instead of apologizing about the mix up the manager was aggressive and rude with me. I will never buy from here again due to their poor customer service and rude manager.

The services at IJ are amazing. I purchased some earrings for my GF and they looked great, I think she fell in love with them as soon as she saw them. While I do visit their store once in a while on other business, I wanted to check out their new online store to see how well the process worked. The purchasing experience was great, almost as easy as buying from Amazon, and I was able to pickup the product in no time, they even gift wrapped it for me, that's always appreciated since I have horrible wrapping experience. So of course, while I'm sure this does not happen often, it seems there was either a manufacturer defect, or possibly the product got slightly bent while being handled by another customer, however, the post was brittle and it broke. I contacted IJ, and they immediately were very apologetic and felt bad that my gift got broken on the first day. I was too, since my GF loved this design. They offered to rush a new product to me and provide full exchange no questions asked, however, we really liked the current product's design. Instead, I asked the post to be repaired, and it was done so in a very short time frame, and looked more sturdy than from factory, I think they really did an amazing repair job, and we are happy. I have told this to everybody for many years, that it is not always about the product that businesses sell, it is how they support it, and support at IJ was top-notch! Many Thanks! I will come again :)
Unprofessional. I went to get a quote to replace a missing diamond from an old engagement ring. The women at the service center was incredibly abrasive and continually used slang/abbreviated terms that I was not familiar with. Each time I politely asked her to explain she would look at me like I was an idiot and respond in a very condescending tone.
Independent had been my first choice from reviews I had heard from friends, but based on this experience and the lack of professionalism I will not be returning. Regardless of if their quote ends up being the lowest.

Very upsetting, called to make sure they had a certain item. Lady says yes of course we have it come on in. Get there after 45 min drive and find out she lied and all they wanted was to up sell me to another item. They ladies that work there have such a Bi#$h additude because I didnt spend more monies. The turnaround to pick up my eternity band was 2 days, less than what I was expecting! I wouldn t hesitate to return for any future purchases. Overall a great experience!
I have mixed feelings about our experiences at Independent Jewellers. We had excellent service when purchasing my husband's wedding band and my necklace/earrings for our wedding. The consultant spent so much time with us to listen to what we were looking for and made suggestions appropriately. I would go back for the jewelry 100%.
However, I would discourage anyone from using their engraving services. We had purchased knives as groomsmen gifts. My husband was not asked what size font or font style he wanted but he mentioned that it should be centered. I wish I had a photo to show how bad this turned out. The names of each groomsman were not centered vertically or horizontally on the blade and the font was so small. The groomsmen do not have long names either (only 4 letters maximum). This aspect of the business was super disappointing.

Went in looking for a solid gold chain and nugget bracelet. They wouldn't budge on the prices that were ridiculously high and likely for Oil patch Workers with too much money and no knowledge about jewelry. Service was just so so. Apparently they didn't want my business.
Went to VO jewellers in west Edmonton mall and bought a 7k necklace and 6k bracelet :) best prices in the city by far.

I was completely out of words leaving the store last week. I was made feel so special by the staff! There's definitely no other jewellery store in Edmonton like Independent. They do not double check your orders. Called me for pick up, took half an hour to bring my order and packed the ring directly, I insisted to check the size and realized it is a wrong size.
The lady was very rude and was not willing to explain me anything, she did not have a proper training. The manager was polite, however nobody apologized for their mistake.
If you are running tight on time, not the best place to shop.
Update after 3 months
They ordered the same wrong size ring for 3 times now and I finally decided to cancel my order and bought a similar ring online for cheaper price, better quality, faster delivery and perfect fit. Feel stupid not doing so before.
I lost my diamond in my engagement ring and my insurance company recommended Independent Jewelers. I'am so happy with the service I received from Kelli W, she found me a replacement diamond that was bigger and better quality than the one I lost. She also noticed that one of the side diamonds was loose. They replaced the diamond, fixed the claw on the side diamond, provided a replacement appraisal for the new diamond and a new appraisal for the ring. Kelli emailed and phoned me when the claim was accepted, when the ring was repaired and asked me how I would like it shipped. She tracked the parcel and even phoned me when it had arrived at the Canada post office and asked me to phone her once I picked it up. I picked up my ring today and I couldn't be happier. Kelli thank you so much you are a true professional.

I called and talked to the appraisal department because I wanted to bring my ring in for an appraisal for insurance purposes. I was told by the gentleman over the phone that it would be 24 hours, 48 hours max. When my fiance brought in my ring he was told no longer than 10 days. Now it has been 8 days since it has been there so we called to ask how much longer and was told that it will take 3-4 weeks. Are you kidding me? Most places you can get an appraisal done within 30 minutes while you sit and wait. I do not recommend or trust this store. If I could have given it 0 stars I would have.
I have never done a google review before and never even had a google account but I had to come and give this place a 5 star. I thought buying an engagement ring was a painful experience so I was hoping for the worst. Kelli W gave me one of the best customer service experiences of my life by educating me on this whole diamond business and following up respectfully, never pushy. Will definitely recommend this store and Kelli to everyone I know.
Been dealing with these guys for everything for the last 4-5 years. Given them a lot of business. I called in asking about a club ring that I have that is gold plated. They told me they could re-plate it for me over the phone. So I drove from the other side of the city to see them and was met by two exceptionally rude ladies at the service counter who made faces when I came to them with the request, demanded to know who I spoke to, and refused service. They couldn't have cared less when I said I just drove across town through heavy traffic and that I was told the store would take care of this for me. They also couldn't care less when I told them they'd be losing my business. These guys deserve 0 stars. I've never been treated so poorly anywhere, and I was being nice and polite to them. It's not like I walked in with a bad attitude.

David is an absolute gem, literally and figuratively.
When my husband went to pick out my engagement ring, all he had was an idea. When he went to see David, all it took was a short conversation for David to show him my dream ring. When it came to picking out our wedding bands, he was even more amazing. We both had custom ideas in our head, and after a 30 minute visit, we ordered our rings and fell even more in love with them when we saw them.
Independent Jewelers has been around for years, and can do pretty much anything. The level of professionalism shown by their employees is a testament as to why this business has been so successful.

Independent Jewellers is the biggest jewellery store I ve ever shopped at, so much beautiful jewelry to select from!! The staff are so great, very friendly and approachable! I ve bought several items and my husband has bought me a few items as well, all I can say, is IJ never disappoints!!!

Very friendly staff and everything done in store. Hands down the best place to buy and repair jewlery. The ladies at the service counter are awesome and repairs are affordable. If you like to support local business then you have no reason to go anywhere else.

Have had a couple of watches after having other places fix them before and some of my wife s jewellery repaired here and the service has been fantastic, nothing is too much trouble and everything is done in house so no having wait weeks while it s sent away. Would highly recommend here if you need any work done.

My wife took here wedding rings in for repair and they wanted to charge her an extra 250.00 because we did not buy the ring from them(been married for 35 yrs) I went in and complained to a manager and I asked if independent jewellers wanted repeat customers or do they like to rip people of once and have customers not come back. She told they rely on repeat business, I explained what happened, she then told me the sales girl made a mistake because we brought a ring in for repair (they charge this extra fee if a person brings diamonds in and want them mounted and did not buy it from them) and she adjusted the bill.
My wife just the other day took in some more jewelry and a bracelet I bought for her and had it engraved, well since Christmas the engraving wore off so she wanted it fixed. The sales person told my wife that she was not charged for the engraving and should have paid, what the sales person did not know and I spent about 2k and the engraving they gave to me. So now my wife was told they have a new machine for engraving and she was going to have to pay a set up fee to repair the poor work they have done.
So I cannot recommend theses people I have spent a lot of money there and they have lost a customer for good they do not want repeat customers, all the sales people care about has how to the bill so they can make there commissions.
And the worst part is they do poor quality work on the product I bought from them and they do not stand by there workmanship they want me to pay again.

Absolutely love the staff at Independent Jewellers. They are very knowledgeable and friendly. The selection in the store is fantastic and the watch department is abundant in choices. The jewelry I have from the store is still in great condition. The service department is fast and not overly expensive. Whether you are looking for something lower end such as their Swarvoski collection to something expensive like there Canadian Diamond collection i have not been disappointed. Now you can also shop online and they are always doing things for the local community.
Honestly wanted to love them because they have such knowledgeable staff- my fiance and I went in looking for a particular engagement ring setting. They said they could order it in, but it wouldn't arrive for several months. They attempted to sell another, more expensive ring instead. We went elsewhere, and found a locally owned store that was able to order the exact ring I wanted in, had it in a month, and was able to purchase it for $600 less than Independent quoted. We won't be returning.
