Clean and modern hotel rooms, friendly staff and you can walk to the Galleria near by for food and shopping. Convenient to the freeway too! Be prepared to pay for parking though as there is no on street free parking in this area.

I hosted an event in the Great room. Martin was wonderful and very helpful. The room and food was good. I do think the rooms need to be updated. Valet service was not great. It took 10-15 minutes to get my car and then I still could not get out. Overall I was pleased but I would not say I received top notch service from a top notch hotel. More communication is need during planning events, hotel updates are needed, a better organized valet service for $21 a car.
Average Hotel for Houston ....Front desk is rude and makes mistakes.Didn't offer to carry our bags while they gave us the wrong room with no apology. Will never be back!
Attending Start at the Top conference for three days. Hotel Derek staff are friendly and helpful. The hotel is a convenient location and great place for a conference. I feel the parking day rate is high for attendees and our group would appreciate a conference group discount.
I stayed at Hotel Derek for my birthday weekend in one of their top suites. I was very upset to look at my bank account and realize I had charges that were taken out due to them not explaining the accommodations thoroughly from staff that were acquired about my stay For the weekend. I called and spoke to Dennis the manager who did not accommodate me at all and apologized rudely that it was not explain to me thoroughly and then insisted he would accommodate me if I stay with them again but did not refund. This is not good business and not a good manager to Satisfy their customers needs which was not caused by me but staff. I highly recommend anyone to stay somewhere else because customer service is horrible & especially Management during this pandemic. I will be contacting the corporate franchise about this with situation.
Did not know that this was a dog friendly hotel. have been laying in my bed with a dog barking next door on the 15th floor. The elevator was broken in the garage and all of the lower floors are valet parkimg only...i walked down with my bags from 6. The only thing worse than the dog barking is the noisy elevator i am next to. i think Shelbi at the front deak is punishing me for complaining about the elevator.
i will now add that Chris who i mwt in the lobby 10 minutws ago is a man of action. i went to the front desk and before i got to the desk Chris asked if he could help. i am already in my new room away from the dog and elevator. hotel.....2 stars for location Chris .....5 stars for service.
I booked a suite at this hotel for 3 nights but I may cancel based on the reviews. My friend stayed here recently and he said be careful of the random charges but it was aparently a decent place. I'm looking forward to this experience please don't let me down
For the name, pictures, the lobby entrance, and most importantly price. I thought I was going to get so much more. My room felt kinda old, toilet had problems, everything costs something, parking tax + valet parking, water is 5 dollars a bottle, and the shower felt really old. Other than all of this, was a pretty fair stay, and Expedia gave me a nice deal on the room. The pool was nice, and the elevator card reader was cool. Probably wouldn't go back, but I wouldn't not recommend this to someone if they paid less than 100.00 a night.
I really enjoyed the stay here staff are friendly very nice atmosphere the pool was tiny not sure why as big as this hotel also the elevator in the parking garage stopped working around midnight they had security in golf carts picking guest up and taking them to the 1st floor but since the stairs are closer and it only took a few steps we took the stairs so no inconvenience for us...I will say for the price of the room it should have a microwave and they should take all the drinks and snacks you'd have to pay for cause nobody actually does that I mean I hope not anyways lol...for some I cant post the video of the hotel before we put all of our stuff down..
Hotel Derek is conveniently located at Westheimer and 610, near the Galleria, where quality restaurants and shopping are within walking distance. In addition, the service was commendable. However, before you make a reservation prepare yourself for a shell game when it comes to your bill. First, you must pay to park at the hotel. But the fee isn't added to your room. You are charged separately, and the fee may not show up on your card until several days after your stay. Then there is the $100 fee for the room accoutrements you MAY decide to use. This too is separate from your room charge and may take up to a week to be refunded. Both times I have stayed at Hotel Derek I have had to call and say, "Where is my $100?" I will never stay there again.
Good location, decent room. Pay for parking in a garage or valet park Right off the highway and near downtown Houston. Be aware of unknown random charges. And don t eat or drink anything in the room, when there s a CVS across the street
I wasn't impressed the room was clean but the shade was broken and the curtains was a little raggedy, also they charge you for everything to get a refrigerator and microwave was $20 a piece. We had to pay for parking as well as concierge services. The good thing is that we didn't have to drive we just rode the shuttle everywhere we went. The lobby area was very chic and the food in the restaurant was pretty good.
Extra fees for services i never used also rooms are outdated and not cozy at all and they also charged me for the fiji water in the room that i never drank after calling about it never going back again
I reserved the king bed-high floor room, but when I checked in I was told they had no more rooms but just one, a two bed- room on the third floor! I was so upset due to I had to pay for the room they gave at the same price for the one I chose that I wasn t able to get. Why do they reserve out the rooms if they don t even have enough?! It s not fair. & a young lady tried checking in right after us and the check in lady said to us oh well she s out of luck because there s no more rooms ...like wow.
My stay at HotelDerek was anything but luxury or 4 Star. First I was unable to book the special online, because the website said the property would be closed. The king superior room was small. Next, the room didn't have a remote, the tv services was sketchy and blacking out, the restaurant and bar closed early ( before 11) with no notice, even after bartender mike said they would be open till midnight. I was unable to buy food, and guest services told me there was no way to warm outside food without paying $20 fee for a microwave. I did not receive the voucher for the breakfast included in my package, had to go back and forth to guest services where they ended up writing my room number on a sticky note saying free breakfast. The breakfast was bland and tasteless. The buffet was not as good as something you would get at holiday inn, it was basically sitting on the bar in the restaurant and lounge. On NYE the self parking was not available due to a party they were having. The complimentary car service is a joke. It's like regular super shuttle. The wait times can be up to an hour for both drop off and pick up. I expected so much more from a upscale Houston property. I have stayed at several from the galleria, city center and downtown including hotel Sorella, Royal Sonesta, and Aloft to name a few and hotel Derek has not been comparable at all.
I ve had 3 encounters with them but the last one was/is the last time I go. I used day use for a one day stay and checked out the same day. As it turns out, not only did they not check me out, they said they had someone in the room that they thought was me and proceeded to charge me for someone else. My chargers went from 79 to 255. I called the hotel and they had no explanation and the arrogance was permeating through the phone. Although I ve had good experiences with them I no longer will due to poor service and the unaccountability of their wrong doings.
A.C. was not keeping the room under 70 degrees. We told the front desk and they said that they fixed it. Came back that night and it wasn't working. They did absolutely nothing. I also killed a small spider in the room.
i wouldn t stay here again. there s no valet and you have to park in the parking garage and the only way to get there is to walk around the building and they make you pay to park there.
Nice elegant Hotel I come quite often to have lunch and use the office facilities because the people where I live at the Atrium Regency apartments hack my internet and steal my money every day that i am logged in doing buisness on my computer. They and she knows who they are. The Hotel Derek is my place to get away frm all the crime committed where I live. Thanks Hotel Derek for making things comfotable and right
This hotel was awful! We recently celebrated our 19th wedding anniversary and planned a staycation. The front desk attendant was very helpful and nice but that was about it! Our room was dusty and dirty, hair on the TOWELS! dirt in the tub and the hallways smelled like weed and cigarettes! He gave us another room to look at and sadly it was the same. The tiny mini bar was dirty and not worth it. We checked out about 15mins after we arrived and went to the Westin down by the medical loop it was AMAZING! So save your money and go somewhere else!
We are in love with Hotel Granduca! It is our new go to place in Houston! The suites are so beautiful, the staff friendly and outgoing and Restaurant Cavour is beyond amazing! We look forward to going back!
The shuttle driver Ali, didn't understand English or didn't want to take me to my destination. He dropped me off at The Galleria Tower and left me to figure out where I was going. Needless to say I never got to my destination. The Derek had to send a personal car for me. 1 hour later I am back at The Derek.
Rooms are small, weird layout, 1970s furnishings- needs update. No heat and cold shower.. they said it was "due to an issue with the city" that they are trying to fix...
Pros- lobby is nice, staff is nice, restaurant was good, updated bathroom.
EDIT: The next day heat and hot water returned. Guess is really was an issue with the city. Made the rest of the stay a lot better.
Room and hotel are not worth the price they charge for it. There s a $100 A DAY Incident fee. PLUS an $18 hotel fee. PLUS a parking fee of $25 plus tax a day. On top of what they charge for the hotel room. There s a bunch of kids drunk all over the hotel screaming at each other and the hallways smell like weed. I honestly would like to leave the hotel and check into a A different one. But it is nonrefundable. So I m stuck here. I come into Houston quite often and I will never stay here again. This is not an upscale hotel. This is a sheep in wolves clothing. If you re looking for a higher end hotel this is not the place.
The hotel is beautiful and the staff are sweet but the hotel itself is not at it s full potential at all ! Everything is small! The room was the size of a shoe box the pool is the size of a Doritos chip!! The curtains in the room was translucent there the sun woke me up. The bed are small !! There is no way they are queen beds. They don t have much food choices. No spa, they don t have toilet trees like touch paste etc. parking is expensive $25-34 a night ! They have one chauffeur that s never there and when he says he s coming he isn t ! It s honestly a waste of time ! The worst hotel I ve ever stayed at! There isn t much there and it s sad because it s basically across the street from the Galleria mall !!
After using Hotel Derek for a larger corporate event this year, we decided they would be a good choice to use them when we needed to book a hotel room locally for an out of town guest. After realizing that our reservation was made the day of instead of when we needed it, we called right away to have the reservation changed which we were told was not an issue --and is why I was so surprised that we were charged the full room rate for the night. When I called, I was told that the reservation line from their own phone number does not go to the hotel, so they had no record of the call and had us marked as a no show. The receptionist was rude, and when I asked to speak with a manager, I was put on hold indefinitely until I had not choice but to hang up. This hotel seemed to have great customer service when our bill was in the five figures but did not have any time or consideration for our one night discrepancy. We will not be re booking with this hotel for personal or corporate purposes again since $177 is worth losing a potential lifetime customer.
The hotel was super nice and fancy. We had to switch our room because some rappers were smoking weed across the hall and our room smelled like it due to it coming through our air vents. The staff was very kind about it and the hotel was magnificent otherwise.
I stayed there with my wife & kids. The hotel was ok, however my wife ended up with bedbug bites all over her. It was really bad, from her legs up to her neck. I have pictures of her bites if interested. We even filed an incident report & no one has contacted us. I am not so sure about their cleanliness.
Stayed the evening of 3/10/2020 for Houston Rodeo. Room for all appearances was clean, evening was quiet beyond the normal walking around or water running you may hear. Upon checking in I was informed about the $100 fee (that was refunded the next day). I can't lie I saw the horrible reviews and was worried but I had a great stay but would stay again..
Let me say you pay 25 dollars a night for parking, but thats not the worst thing our rooms looked horrible and tore up. The staff and manager was super understanding, but the hotel is not for families and it was a hot ghetto mess! I thought it was a four star hotel, but the experience and from what I seen was not at all top notch!
They haven t changed their rooms since the last time we stayed here which was 2006. Their couches have stains on them. They shouldn t be allowed to say they have a pool when it s the size of a hot tub and they are charging $15 amenity fees. Won t stay here again.
The hotel has a great location in uptown, but the penthouse was not worth it. Only one bed, and it felt like just a fancy version of any standard Marriott room. Didn't even have a smart TV so we could watch Netflix, Hulu, etc.
The hotel is clean, but the aesthetic is interesting. It seems like it can't make up its mind if it wants to be Texas themed or 80s/90s theme. Also, the bathroom door was a sliding door on a rail (not a pocket door) that didn't lock and didn't quite close all the way. Very awkward. Overall, it's fine to stay, but it is definitely overpriced for what you get.
I stayed overnight at this hotel July 6th. I was not able to get in touch with the front desk for assistance overnight. My wife wanted a blanket, because the bed did not have a comforter, or if it did it was thin. I called valet the next morning and got transferred to guest services, and read out my valet ticket number to have my car brought around. I get downstairs to the front desk to checkout and my car had not been brought around to the front. I paid for overnight valet service and had to wait more than 5 minutes for my car to be brought around and it was not busy. The only thing that seemed to be prompt was the bill that was slid under the door of the room I was in. This was my first and more than likely last time at this hotel.
Great location but they charge for parking and elevator in garage doesn't work and stair case is disgusting dirty full urine and feces on wall , due to elevator not working they charge same fee for valet but honestly I believe it should be waived until it's fully operational. We spend 2 night it was nice room but walls are so thin you can hear everything. First day I advice the front desk that it was noisy and didn't get much rest and they indicated people next door where checking out so it should be better. Well last night was horrible the guest next to our room where fighting and screaming I called front desk they send security and yelling stopped for about hour and they started yelling again called for second time security came again. This continued thru night didn't get any rest. Very disappointed . They indicated couldn't refund or accommodate due to we book thru third party. It's a very beautiful hotel and I believe with proper management it would be great. I hope they can correct issues. One thing I can say is bar staff was great and drinks where good. Good luck.
I had an excellent stay at the hotel, with proximity to the Galleria. Although I did not use very many amenities, it was nice to know that they were available for use. However, I do believe that some of the resort fees were a bit unnecessary. Regardless, it was a positive overall experience
Buyer Beware. READ the reviews. Stay somewhere else or understand that "you get what you pay for" if you find a good deal for this place. Consider too, that the price per night is really $40 more than you think. Parking is $25 per night and there's an additional $15 "service charge" that you'll be paying when you check in. Our first room had a faulty heater. It was 53 degrees in the room. Maintenance came up and fixed the problem, but it took a while for the room to feel habitable. Then, the room next door woke us up at midnight with their music and birthday party celebration. We called the front desk and politely complained. 30 later, nothing had changed, so we called again. The receptionist said she "Sent security up but they didn't hear anything." She offered to send Security up again. I stood by the door and waited for security, thinking that maybe the security guard needed to hear the party from our room instead of just the hallway. He never came, but housekeeping did... with ice... for the party. While I was waiting, I squished two small bugs, one a small roach, that had tried to run when I turned the bathroom light on. I had brought a noise machine and decided to try and crank it up and just deal with the noise. 15 minutes later, however, the smell of pot coming under the shared door between the rooms was unbearable. I called the front desk and politely asked for a room change. We walked down to the desk, now after 1am, for a key to the new room with all of our luggage. After finally making it back to a new room, we just climbed in bed, exhausted, to sleep in another room with a broken heater... hoping that whatever bugs were there would stay in dark hidden crevices away from us while we slept.
Very nice upscale hotel that is great for overnight stays with everything there, so there isn't ever much of a need to travel far, and if they don't have it they will gladly help you find it. Very spacious rooms with great views of the city.
