Good hotel. Very decent stay but fridge in my room doesn't work well and is barely colder than room temperature and it doesn't seem like you can adjust it.
However, room service cleans every day and they do a very good job.

Starting from the time I got there: Parking area was ok it could be cleaner. The fee for parking I was ok with since it was listed on the website. The main entrance was very clean and very presentable. The kitchen and bar was lovely bartender was awesome. Everyone far as staff was polite. The view of the city was spectacular. The room was clean and didn't smell. The bathroom was out dated. I felt as if the commode was too close to the shower/tub. The tub didn't drain properly, my feet was always in a puddle of water while showering (I'm sure cleaning the drain every now and then would help). Otherwise the stay was Ok.

Nice hotel, and the location near the Galleria is nice. Rooms are beautiful, fun, and spacious, no microwave and the fridge is small and unusable bc its filled with hotel add ons. I would have given a higher rating but there's a bit of extra charges you don't know until you get there...just like the snacks out for display & drinks in the fridge my family & I thought it was complimentary. WRONG. There was a fee for every item even water. Like seriously? Water?...I prefer when I pay for a room in advance I don't get extra charges. Still a nice place though.

Nice hotel, modern and clean. Saturday night we had to switch off the air con as the smell of dope circulating through floor 8 was unbearable. We were worried our young children would be impacted. If it wasn't for that one night I'd give it 4 stars

I loved my stay at Hotel Derek! They have great music playing all the time, the interior design is beautiful! It is not your typical hotel. My beautiful room had a great view of the uptown area! During my stay I chose to go to their gym and normally I dread it because most hotels have small outdated gyms. Hotel Derek's gym was a big surprise! I had an awesome workout with their new equipment and it had everything I needed! I would love to go back!

My daughters took me to the Hotel Derek/Galleria 7/12/2020 for a Get-A-Way they kept saying the hotel was Upscale But what a surprise! I didn t want to ruin my day (It s in the Galleria) But it s Not! Again Upscale Dated Furniture Cheap Looking! No decoration in room like shown in pictures- We could tell the Hotel Was Not Ready for Guests due to the Virus-It was confirmed when we checked Out the Rep said they only been Open for A Week! Do we Get A Refund...Nothing in the Hotel was Opened as mentioned in the Reservation- Disappointed!

When checking out the traffic on Google Maps back to the hotel this evening, I was shocked to see this didn t have a much higher rating! Scanning through some of the impactful negative reviews, it didn t seem right not to give my opinion.

I travel globally, and to Houston 2-3 times a year. I ve stayed in 5-6 hotels in the area before discovering Derek. I have since stayed 8 (or so) times.

Character: It has a fun and unique flare. Well considered decor, lighting, music, layout and finishing touches. Far from the dated, boring, stuffy vibes that you get elsewhere.

Staff: Always friendly and approachable. Helpful to each other too - you know when somewhere has a good culture when you see how well they onboard and support new staff (something I witnessed last night).

Food & Drink: Good quality grub, served quickly and with a smile. If you fancy something light, the watermelon and feta salad is great. Interesting and varied beers on tap, and knowledgable bar staff who are keen for you to try something new

Location: Walking distance to so much. Turn left for great restaurants and boutique shopping and turn right for even more at the Galleria Mall, and a CVS over the road for anything you forgot to pack.

Room: Granted, I ve only stayed in a Standard King, but it s great. Good layout & size, eclectic furniture, comfortable bed, cow themed robe, always well serviced. What more could you want.

Price: Compared to what you get for the same price (for much less) elsewhere in the area, it s an absolute no-brainer for me.

Fact: Never had a problem - nothing but good things to say.

Opinion: Book it

I'd give this place a better review if they knew how to refund money when they say they will. They put a hold on my card. A month later the money has still not been given back. Everything way closed when We were there ( coronavirus being the explanation) valet was closed and we had to pay 25$ a day for parking that had to be renewed everyday or our parking expired. Location isn't all that either. Rooms were nothing special and the bathrooms need updated drastically. For the price of the rooms id recommend staying somewhere else!

Cool place with unique decor, but the room for a wedding reception was far too over-crowded and packed for the headcount. For the same reason they needed more bartenders and servers. Parking was WAY over-priced! Doubt I'll ever find a reason to come back here.

Poor view from room, thought I requested great view, attendant placed me facing parking garage, when called for shuttle service to Galleria it took almost an hour, so I just walked - thanks to the Concierge for his excellent hospitality (Jim).
I was not impressed with this hotel at all!

It's a cute hotel as far as design goes. In a good location, disregarding the construction and traffic. They have a heated pool which was incredible enjoying an early morning swim in October. They have a movie playing on a projector outside which doesn't exactly add any value since it doesn't have sound and it's a strange angle to tilt your head. The whole hotel is no-smoking including outside in the nice movie and bed area by the pool. If you smoke you have to go do so in your car.
The hotel layout is awkward. The elevators to the parking garage are on one side the ones to your room, another. The amenities (pool and car garage) are on one side and the elevator to your room is opposite of the check in counter so you have to cut across every single time. In PJs or bathing suit.
The hotel itself needs some remodeling. The sheets and bath robes feel old. The shower head and water temp gage needs to be tightened or changed out. The tub itself is dated and has old residue. The ceiling in the bathroom is rusted and needs to be fully taken out and updated. A slash of paint is simply not enough. I can tell that's been done. I love the club lighting concept in the elevators and the overall designer style. The parking situation is ridiculous. You pay by the hour with almost a $25 a day charge. As if you can stay at a hotel without a car. Might as well place that in your upfront cost. Tons of hidden fees, so go ahead and add an additional $90 to your hotel budget. This maybe am overall Houston issue.
Overall it was an okay stay, the gym is really nice! There is even stocked up fruit in the refrigerator for guests to enjoy. They have really nice equipment, medicine balls, olypticals, and a fun punching bag. Recommend staying here keeping my points in mind, room for improvement

Horrible valet, horrible customer service. Be careful, they may bring back your car covered in bird crap and not do a thing about it, even though you've only been there 4 hours! They don't understand that valet is your first and last impression of this place, no matter who signs their check.

It was a beautiful hotel. I didn't like there wasn't a microwave. It was stocked items in the fridge/bar and items were missing that we didn't consume. We were surrounded by loud young ppl who was crying to her boyfriend from 1 am to 6am and acting a fool thr next night with her friends. The hotel overall is nice, just those things were of annoyance. Oh and the thin blankets omg the room was freezing and we adjusted the temp from 68 to 75 but still cold.

Stayed a few years ago and they took great care of us. Not much of a pool. Rooms were somewhat small but the layout made them cozy. I recommend this place. It really was great. Concierge set up champagne and flowers for me for my now ex gf. Just good service and a different style hotel. Pretty legit

More stars for the front desk staff working because they were very nice, but 1 star for the hotel itself. Stayed here this past weekend and our first room smelt like someone smoked an entire pack of cigarettes in it prior, and the sink had some kind of mud or sand caked on it that wouldn t wash off. The front desk staff moved us to another room but DOWN a floor, which was annoying. Second room had an even filthier sink and the floor wasn t clean and several of the lightbulbs were burnt out. Third room finally seemed reasonably clean, but I honestly felt gross about staying there at this point, but we stayed. Then, someone hit my friends car in the parking garage and scratched it and left no info. I had always wanted to stay here, but wow. Sad excuse for a luxury hotel. Will never stay here again and don t recommend anyone else does either.

Hotel itself is exquisite, contemporary and clean, but the restaurant/barista staff is incredibly rude. Specifically Sarah. Everything seemed like an inconvenience to her. Breakfast bar was still stocked with food, it was 15 minutes away from closing and she refused to let us in. The night before we decided to get a coffee and she was incredibly ugly about it. Front desk staff is very welcoming, but they need to work on their restaurant staff.

While I've visited this hotel years ago and I can say it used to be more like a 4 star, today it's more like a 2 star. I recently stayed a weekend here and I'll never stay here again. You pay your hotel, taxes, and fees then they add an extra $16 per day for extra fees to use the pool, other amenities, and shuttle service. Honestly all that should be included in the first set of taxes and fees. They also charge an extra $100 deposit per day so it was $200 additional charged to my credit card for the 2 days I was there.

The guys driving the shuttle service were really nice. The shuttle is basically a big black truck in which most of the air vents are broken and they hardly run the AC for customers either even as hot as it is, as if they're trying to penny pinch on gas and the middle out row seatbelt doesn't work so the person sitting there can't ride safely (which they should let people know). The rooms no longer have refrigerators other that the overstocked mini bar. It's an extra $20 per day if you want a refrigerator in the room you can use.

The beds are extremely uncomfortable (you can see from the pic I posted it's an older spring mattress that bends soon as you sit down), just 3 years ago this was not the case. This was the most crucial part for me as I also have back problems I also had the last time I stayed here and the mattresses weren't horrible then. The mattresses are also shorter than the bed frames now which are dangerous and uncomfortable. I hit my leg at least twice during my stay getting up to go to the restroom and coming back to get in the bed. They also asked if I wanted a downtown view or Galleria view because they offer these views. I told them a downtown view and basically got mostly a view of a garage and the back of a dirty weird brown building.

The walls are really thing so the neighbors having a big party downstairs kept waking me up at 3am which I told the front desk about (the little time you can actually get them to answer the phones because it normally takes a while) and the neighbors next to me baby kept crying all morning which also kept me woke. It was obvious that the place the beds in our room and their room against the same wall which I don't think was a wise choice. The only good things I can say about this hotel is that is nicely designed and the AC in the room works very well.

While the lobby and restaurant staff are very friendly and helpful, and the Revolve resturant is amazing, I am afraid to say this hotel does not live up to the hype. Upon arrival I was ready to start relaxing but unfortunately the tub was broken, while they were quick to call someone to fix it, the water would not get warm and so it was a quick shower before getting ready for what was supposed to be a romantic evening. I had arranged for the "Hey Lovers" package for my fiance and I's three year anniversary, a splurge but he is so worth it, and at a 4 star Forbs rated hotel! We went to dinner so I could make sure to keep the rose petal turn down at 7 a surprise. After dinner I excused my self to the front desk to make sure everything was in place, I was assured my finance was excited for what ever surprise I had set up! We came up stairs to find our keys not working, back down stairs to fix it, and then back up to find the Champaign quick set and left and the bed not made and no rose petals or anything to say romance. Back down stairs again to let them know what had happened. The consiarge ask us to wait at the bar while they fix it but at the point it had been a huge let down for the both of us.
After it was sorted I went back upstairs and got the breakfast card for "breakfast in bed", which I was told was included in the packed by two different people ready and on the door by pm even though I had until midnight to do so.
The next morning I thought it odd our breakfast hadn't come so I called down figuring it would be a bit late but just to get a time frame. They had apperently never picked up the card but did slide the bill under the door. We did finally get breakfast but it was almost 11:30 by that time we were very hungry and disappointed in what ever was happening with the 7th floor. The morning desk workers were very nice and made sure we were helped out but to spend almost $500 on a night that could have been done better, cheaper, and less stressfully at a home wood suites was very disappointing.

Good bar, parking sucks. Auto gate not working, had to repark, walk back inside, pay, then wait 10 min for someone to open gate. Elevator was also out, so that a was 4 trips up and down. Did I mention I still had to pay to get out...?

Lots of gorgeous decor, the hotel room was clean and decorated beautifully. The bathroom and bedroom were spacious and the staff was kind. Would definitely stay here again if I'm back in Houston. Great place for a getaway or romantic stop. Only downside was that there isnt much of a view outside the window but if that doesnt bother you definitely stay here!

My recent visit to Hotel Derek was made enjoyable by thy dining room staff employee, Alma. She was attentive, accommodating and friendly. It was a joy to eat breakfast there each morning. July 6-12,2018

We enjoyed our stay at The Derek thanks to Raven. Her customer service was above and beyond and she made our stay a great experience despite the inconveniences we had. The atmosphere is upbeat and the decor is very chic. Chris in the bar area was also a very friendly and attentive person.

Awful Hotel, dirty rooms, rip-off parking scheme

Awful Hotel, dirty rooms, rip-off parking scheme

Avoid Avoid Avoid this hotel! I cannot stress this enough. The whole property is rundown and looks worn. When I arrived at my room, there were plates and glasses from the prior guests outside my door. Inside the room, there were blood stains on the wall under the desk. The room was NOT quiet and felt cramped. In the garage, the gates are broken and self-parking is only available on the 6th floor or higher and the elevator back down to Floor 1 has not worked for weeks.

Also, be on the lookout for Hotel Derek s parking scam. I self-parked in the garage. The entry and exit gates to the garage are both broken and left in the up position. There is a small sign informing parkers that they need to provide their vehicle information to the front desk so you can pay for parking. It s tiny and I did not see it when I arrived at the hotel late at night. I parked on the 8th floor, and then had to call the valet for a ride down to the first floor since the elevator was still not working. When I checked in, no one asked me if I parked a vehicle in the garage. I didn t think anything of it. Then when I checked out, I had to wait on the valet to drive me to my vehicle on the 8th floor and then discovered my vehicle had been "booted" and a sticker placed on the window by security since I did not pay for parking. The sticker advised of a $100 fine. The process of getting the boot and sticker off my vehicle required several trips between the 8th floor of the parking garage and the front desk and took more than an hour to resolve. I missed my flight home because of this fiasco.

So what could the hotel do better? Provide a room without blood stains and without food and glassware from prior guests outside my door when I enter my room. Provide working elevators in the garage. If you are going to charge for parking, make the process transparent and the front desk should ask whether you parked in the garage. I will NEVER stay in this hotel again.

It's a nice hotel, pool is perfect for a quick swim but just be warned there is a fee for everything. Parking is extra, there is a $15 dollar resort fee, and on top of your room charge you have to pay $100 deposit that you don't immediately get back BUT the front desk is really nice and helpful. So you win some lose some.

Very snazzy - not the best value in the city, nor the nicest, but a pleasant middle ground. Rooms are comfy and spacious with a modern kind of feel, and the staff were attentive and helpful. Great little spot for a getaway, close to the loop and everything else - terrific location. I recommend.

Hotel Derek has a nice layout. Our room was spacious and the bed was amazingly comfortable. I did feel like the paid self-parking was over-priced ($37 total) and they didn't make it abundantly clear that it was separately billed.

I expected so much more from Hotel Derek . So many unnecessary charges as well as outdated decor . Aside from that my stay was pleasant but I will not be returning.

I ve stayed at Hotel Derek many times, and I know I ll stay here again in the future. The pool is small and set in a weird spot... but the customer service is exceptional and the rooms Are decent. The bathtub/showers could use some cleaning and new hardwire.
