Awful experience. I absolutely DO NOT recommend spending your money at this business.

My two sons and I stayed one night at this hotel on 1/26/18. I very much expected a premium experience after being charged a premium price. After already booking online in advance, I was told at check-in that there would be an "extra" $15 fee per person that is charged so that I would have access to the shuttle that could take me around a 2 mile radius, and also would have access to the wi-fi. I informed the employee that I had my own car and that due to security concerns, I NEVER use free public wi-fi. He (the employee) just said, "I'm sorry, everyone has to pay it whether you use the service or not--it's stated on our website". Well, I booked through Expedia and no where did it mention that there was an extra "fee" for services I do not want or need. There are several words that describe this behavior. Price gouging, bait and switch, stealing from customers...any of these are adequate for this type of poor, distasteful business behavior. I'd like to point out that people who depend on "free" wi-fi can get it at Holiday Inn and many other hotels where it is legitimately free.

Oh, and after getting ripped off and charged $15 for the wi-fi, and a shuttle, expect to pay an additional $30 to park in the garage here at Hotel Derek. Want to know what you get for this price? A parking space barely big enough to fit a motorcycle. I drive a Nissan Rogue. A nice mid-sized SUV. Not a huge suburban, and not a small Mini Cooper--an average-sized SUV. After using my parking cameras and perfectly centered myself in the $30 parking space, there was about 4 inches on each side between my car and the two vehicles that flanked me on each side. Barely enough room to get out. Perhaps climbing out of the trunk would have been easier? Additionally, the parking garage is very poorly configured and is not accessible from the hotel. So you have to drive all the way up to level 6 (valet service reserves level 1-5) park your car; then go all the way back down to 1 just so you can enter the hotel on the ground floor, then get in another elevator to go all the way back up to your room. That childhood see-saw where one person goes up and the other goes down...yeah: it's like that. Annoying and inconvenient. Pro-tip: parking at Holiday Inn is free!

Now, we go up to our room. Go to brush my teeth, and notice there is hair in the sink. Easy to notice when the sink is white. I washed it down the drain, didn't really worry about that too much. Perhaps it fell off the maid while she was cleaning the room? No big deal. Then I go pull the sheets down to get into bed. White comforter and white sheets. I immediately notice that there is hair all over this bed. Not one or two strands...more than could be counted in 5 minutes. It is very obvious that they remade the bed from the person/people prior and didn't bother to change the sheets. Disgusting!

So I call down to the front desk to report this problem, and after they finally bother to pick up the phone...they ask if we have unpacked and apologize for the poor condition of our room. Then I'm told they are going to upgrade our room to a deluxe (whatever that means) and move us up from the 8th floor to the 11th floor. A bellman meets us at our room and swaps keys with us. We get up to the 11th floor, and it's the exact same room, only a mirror image of the prior room. There was no upgrade, no deluxe, just another room that hopefully will be actually clean this time. This room (like the previous room) has diamond back rattlesnake scaled print wallpaper in the bathroom. Whomever the interior decorator is for this hotel should be jailed for having such hideous taste in decor. Cringe worthy wall paper aside, the room appeared to be clean so we went to bed.

Wake up the next morning and go to the kitchen/bar combo and have the continental breakfast. $16 for a danish, fruit, and juice. The same selection that is available at Holiday Inn for free.

Save your money, go somewhere else!

This place is what poor people think rich people have. It is classless and tasteless. It's all fake. The build quality of all the details is terrible. Look closely and you'll see misaligned sockets, dingy carpet, a faint odor of old carpet, black stuff around the vents, stains on the ceiling, and stained bathtubs. Don't be fooled by the veneer.

The front desk staff is nice enough, until there is a problem then you get straight attitude, along with the lip smacking and sound effects. To top it all off when you ask to speak with a manager he is busy even after you wait the 10 plus minutes they say, it takes for him to get un busy with the "district manage". This was my favorite hotel but the maintenance and housekeeping is seriously falling off. There was NO cold water in the shower, it was scalding hot, hair on the shower walls, the inside of the sliding door is filthy, the mini bar fridge was hot, the toilet had water stains and there is paint splatter all over the bathroom fixtures. Ooh the too busy for a guest manager was MYCHEL SMITH.

As a hotel this one was okay. I suppose for a 4 star hotel I was expecting more. The interior is trendy but a little exaggerated. The lobby and the elevators are heavily perfumed (signature scent?) which was a bit overwhelming. While the noise of the highway was kept at bay, the walls were a little thin. We could hear the toilet and bathroom water through the walls. Speaking of toilets, toilet paper was surprisingly cheap and the towels were a step above Wal-Mart towels. The pool was cute in a petite way. I suppose it was a hotel that wasn't for me.

It was aight. We were trying to go to the parking garage to get something from the car and realized that they close the side doors at 8 pm so we had to walk soooooooo much (I dont think it was posted anywhere), we tried to order room service but no one was picking up (and we tried multiple times). One reeeeally cool thing though was we had to order off of grubhub and the front desk actually brought it to our room. The shower pressure was awesome too. We needed ice and the ice machine was broken. We booked the superior king room and it was okay. So overall the experience was 1/2 great for me, tbh I booked this bc of Drake lol. Dont think I'd book again.

Nice hotel, guest services is accommodating and the location near the Galleria is nice. Rooms are spacious, no microwave or fridge which is a downside. Would give higher rating but there's quite a bit of extra charges you don't know about till you get there. I prefer when I pay for a room in advance I don't get extra charges. Still a nice spot, I would probably return again.

The room was nice and the amenities were cool. The heated pool was a nice touch. However, it was not explained to me that there would be a $256 deposit on top of the 258 I already paid. It put a damper on my entire vacation. Why should I have to pay DOUBLE? I understand y all are trying to keep certain people out but Jesus Christ. And on top of that, they took the deposit TWICE and over drafted my account. This experience was piss poor. Plus the tub was slow draining and went to my ankles every time. Almost $600 and it wasn t worth it. I should ve driven back to Dallas. I will never be staying here again.

While the Hotel looks great it's not suitable for huge parties like the Halloween Bash this year. You simply can't transform a reception hall into a club. Definitely would be more suitable following an event.

Took 3 rooms in an attempt to get one that had everything working and now smelling like weed. Even then had to get maintenance to fix safe. Other than Lupita, front desk staff could care less. Run down, dated and dirty. Never again.

A little disappointed. The hotel was very modern and appealing to the eyes, beautiful colors all around. Located in a Great area. My room seemed a bit out dated and the academic did not work. Had to be switched to a different room at 3 am that was an improvement but not a whole lot especially when you have to get up early in the morning for work

First of all, we arrived to the hotel around 5:30....

First of all, we arrived to the hotel around 5:30. Got our hotel key with a free glass of wine. Was happy for 2 minutes before getting to the room and it not opening. Slight inconvenience right, no problem! We go down stairs and get moved to a whole other room on another floor. Try to open the door and the key doesn t work. Have to go all the way downstairs to let them know. Meanwhile, we have a birthday dinner to attend at 6:30 which I let the front desk know that we need to get ready ASAP. Takes about another 10 minutes before I m handed another set of keys. We go BACK up the elevator to our room and the door doesn t open. I call the front desk because at this point we both are so angry and upset. The lady comes to our floor about another 10 minutes later with keys that could actually open the door.

The room looks decent. The bed sheets are so thin. The shower was another HORRIBLE experience. It didn t drain properly which left water up to my shins. The water pressure was TERRIBLE.

The room was $104 with tax and we stayed one night. I will never stay here again. I would give 1/2 a star if I could.

Room was very dated and could use renovations. We also booked a special that was supposed to come with an upgraded room,valet parking and breakfast included. When we got the bill we were charged almost $50 extra for one night. After talking with the front desk we got the extra charge removed. However I checked my final charge and they charged us an extra &50 for breakfast that was supposed to be included.

Had our company Christmas party here. The steak was touch and salty, the cheesecake was on the table before we sat down to eat so by the time we ate it was warm and each time I tried to get out if my chair the staff would block me from getting out, more concerned with getting a task completed than making people comfortable. Parking was terrible and when you enter the building there is no staff present to assist you at 6pm. Disappointing experience.

Nice place. Location is great but beware of the angry drivers getting in and out of the hotel. My package came with complimentary goodies to the room that never showed up. I don t care necessarily for them, but I reminded them 3 times with no follow up which was kind of annoying for this hotel at their price level. I mentioned it when I checked out and was given a $25 parking credit to make it right. Otherwise, great stay!!

I'm not one to leave terrible reviews, but here it is. Check in staff was very friendly. Room was decent. My entire problem is with the valets. I have a new higher end car that I keep detailed and covered at all times typically. I valet my car up front upon check in and tip the valet to take good care of it for me. Fast forward two days to when I pick my car up.. Valet hot rods back up to the front of the hotel like it's going to impress me and then I see that the ENTIRE car is covered with sap, bird droppings, and bird piss. I was livid and the valet just smirks at me at that point. Now after a $400 detail, complete polish, and a clay bar treatment, the car is back to normal. Use a little common sense guys. It's definitely my last time staying at this hotel

Extra 15 dollar charge...guy at front desk said it was for WiFi but wait isnt WiFi free...will never stay there again...I'm pretty sure they charged me for a Raw Burger they sent to my room but I didn't want it so that's there way of covering that...Hahaha Derek hotel is a JOKE!!

I absolutely love this hotel. The quirky, kitchsy , modern decor is just awesome. It reminds me of a W hotel in NYC. The bed is super comfy. The pool is little, but landscaped nicely. To top it all of they have fun cow print robes to wear.

Just went for dinner. The atmosphere is rela laid back and cool. Lots of colorful interior desgins and stylish sitting areas. Food was good...just not what i was expecting. I still enjoyed what i ate. Free billiarss in the back. I would definitely recommend attending this place every now and again just to mix it up.

I have previous stayed at Derek numerous times and always had a great experience. This time I decided to get a room for my husbands birthday just a weekend quick relaxation . Food, customer service and decor as always very good no complaints at all . This time however I have 2 complaints this is why I am only giving 3 stars because I feel like they need to improve in this matter. One the valet or self parking is super expensive they need to lower down the price it s insane . They charge you 35$ for valet everytime you park with them and 27$ for 8 hour self parking which you have to pay again once it expires that is crazy . Second I HATE THE NEW BLANKET please go back to the white fluffy blankets you guys had previously . Now the beds are not comfortable nor the pillows they are cheap and hard . The little beige blankets they have now are super hard and uncomfortable. I hate it . I used to love their beds and that was the only reason I stayed at Derek because to me a comfortable bed, pillows ect is the most important thing . Please upgrade back to the white fluffy blanket you had if not I m definitely not staying at Derek again .

Hotel Derek is terrible! Stayed there my wedding night and spent half my time at the counter because the cards that were on file didn t hold and fell off so my family members had to drive all the way to show proof of payment, yet and still i was charged for my stay. I was given multi stories as to why the cards didn t stay on file and that the systems were down. Management wouldn t even help or call me back. Had to call multiple times to get issue fixed and it still wasn t fixed. I ll never stay here again!

Nice staff, nice lobby and dining. Rooms are eclectic, many items available for purchase in room. The bathroom was outdated at its core but covered up with decor. Bed was good, sheets a little stiff/rough, overall solid stay. I would stay again.

It was in Winter time. The AC in my room was down. ICY COLD ROOM. They were unable to get me another room, saying it was because I had booked on Priceline. A hotel receptionist gave one more blanket, saying "Sorry, we are upgrading, please come back again!".

You will pay and upscale price for a horrible hotel experience. On our way up to our room there was smelly half eaten food on the floor of the elevator and staff didn t seem to thing it would be important to clean it up. The lighting in the bathroom is horrible. The fridge is full of stuff to buy so there s no room for leftovers or anything you might have brought. Not that it matters because there s no microwave. There is not a comforter on the bed, just a few thin sheets. If you would like to get extra blankets, good luck. You re basically going to have to beg them for blankets, toilet paper or anything else you might need. Walls are super thin and you ll be listening to traffic all night.

I was ok with the Hotel experience e except there was no maid service at all and no one brought towels for more then one night stay. There was one person working the front desk and she was overwhelmed. I did not like the fact that I had to put a 100.00 aday deposit A DAY WOW. Second I stayed for two nights and valet park I was never told they charge you for every night for velat even if you stay at the hotel for multiple night they change per night per car . There is no benefit renting the room . I told the front person that and all they could do is refer me to the 3rd party velat manager. The sigh outside did state that fact also it was very deceptive. And of course the guy was not trying to make it right he just kept saying I sorry there is noting he could do . It was horrible service. Needless to say I would not recommend the hotel to family are friends and I would not spend my hard earned money in this establishment and really recommend you do not either.

And it is 5/22 I still have not recieved my deposit!!

Great customer service; parking staff, front desk, bar, and kitchen. Great amenities; shuttle, gym, pool, etc. Great location. However, the room was well below expectation, even at my discounted rate. My room was on the third floor, maybe the rooms are better on higher floors, I may never know. Parking is at least 50% over priced, everything else is reasonable for area.

Daniel your hotel is very well known for it's lack of class (this is nicest way I know how to put it). It is truly sad to see all the potential you could have for the area. I am sorry to say but The Derek's name has already been established. I am not sure there is much you and I could discuss to help the reputation that's already been created. Good luck, Daniel. The hotel does everything they can to nickel and dime you, plut outright lying to steal your money. My wife tried to arrange for surprise room service for our anniversary, which they didn't follow through on. She was disheartened to see they didn't set up the rose petals she ordered. When she called about it, they said they would do it whenever they got around to it. Since we had already checked in and the surprise was ruined, she cancelled the request.

They proceed to deliver room service, which I accepted while my wife was in the bathroom. She called to ask them to take the untouched food back since she cancelled it hours before, but they didn't come back. Eventually they called and said to just keep it free of charge.

Of course, they charge us $40 for something we didn't want and refuse to refund the money.

If you want a nice experience, just pay for a better hotel. If you want a cheap place to stay near the galleria, pick somewhere else anyways. After $15 "destination fee" and $34 parking fee, plus whatever other thing you get tricked into paying, the room isn't affordable anymore.

I was drawn by reviews complimenting its modernistic style but honestly it didn't feel much special from other hotel, the only thing that stood out was a cool looking light next to the windows. It was in a busy area so I understand parking may be charged but $25 a night self parking was quite a surprise for myself. Worst part of it all was the fact that they tried to charge me extra from downstairs revolving diner. I wouldn't have even known about this if I didn't try the TV check out method. Thankfully it showed me a $80 charge on my check out screen witch prompted me to actually go down stairs for an in person check out. I told them I want to check out and told them my room, guess what, they were just going to say I was good to go without even checking on all these extra charges. so I went ahead and asked the reception what these extra charges were and she told me I ordered food last night, which I did not. So they went back to check the receipt (which was signed with my room number but completely wrong initials)and had it taken care faily quick so that was good but seriously? You mean to tell me I can just eat what I want down stairs and put a random room number and could get away with it like that????? Please if you ever get a room here, check your charges before you leave.

The hotel lobby and sitting areas are very chic. The rooms are a little retro and need some updating,but the rooms were clean. Probably wouldn't stay again because of all of the charges for ex; concierge, parking,no free breakfast and having to pay for refrigerator and microwave in the room.

We reserve and asked for an early check in and didn't get the until 4 the regular time. And there was no managers to futher assist me. They say the hotel was recently up graded but it needs another one because this isn't it. The beds comes with no comforters. They charge for everything. I asked if there is somewhere i could warm my food because the room didn't come with a microwave and they told me no and that they would charge me $24 bucks. I swear this is my first and last time i would come here.. Wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone.
