A beautiful resort. Incredibly nice staff. Received a cheese board and bottle of wine on arrival complimentary for our anniversary. Received four complimentary drink tickets with the sip and stay package, which had our room incredibly discounted. The old springs were closed- our initial reason of booking, but we were very happy with the amenities available at the spa.

I have been coming to this hotel for at least 15 years. It is a fine hotel. But is really gouging it's guests when it comes to the spa. in order to use the soaking pool outside you have to pay 85 dollars. You even have to pay on the day you have spa services. This is a very sad way to take atvantage of guests that come here because they want spa services and to soak in the hot springs. This is a new policy and it makes me seriously reconsider returning.
Beautiful hotel with lots of history. The hotel was dealing with difficulties due to the weather while we were there but it never got in the way of our enjoyment. Unfortunately the experiences we had at the food and beverage outlets were underwhelming. We had cocktails at the lobby bar which strayed too far from their namesakes including the "old fashioneds" and the "negroni". While not necessarily bad drinks, they were not what one would expect when ordering a cocktail of that name. At the Jefferson bar, the Virginia julep had too many flavors that strayed from a traditional julep. When asked if they used egg whites for their sours, the server said yes, but when the drink arrived and was tasted, it clearly did not. A drink with lime juice was ordered but we were told they didn't have lime juice. We ordered the drink with lime wedges instead and squeezed the fruit ourselves to make the drink we wanted. Breakfast in the dining room was really good but not even close to worth the price tag. I understand resort and hotel pricing, but honestly just go to a diner in town unless you're dying for smoked salmon and a waffle. Even if you just want fruit and pastries without any hot items, it's not a worthwhile price difference. Just go to Martha's market and avoid the dining room. Dinner at the casino was fantastic. Dinner at the Jefferson was fine for club food but it cost michelan star prices. All the ski staff were amazing. There were some rough technical difficulties but they made everyone happy, got everything fixed, and helped us have a very memorable day. All together we had a wonderful weekend which is why I refuse to give anything less than four stars but the quality of the food and drink disappointed us one too many times to be able to give that fifth star. I would love to revisit but will be cautious next time about where I eat and drink.
the omni homestead resort was great! we enjoyed wonderful dinner parties with great service and exeptional food. figure skating was fun. signature drinks were delicious. the hot springs were very relaxing and our room was very clean and very nice! we definately plan on staying again!
Beautiful, historic venue. Attended event in variety of rooms. Staff was helpful and kind. Can't pick a better place for your next fancy event in Northwest VA!
Stayed at the resort for a weekend getaway during the winter. Caught the big snow so it was really fantastic to get in the hot springs and enjoy the scenery. Husband forgot to pack a suit so we didn t get in the fancy place in the main building, but we tried the the food at the casino and room service. Both were really good. The other famous hot spring nearby was old and we decided to pass on that when we drove by. There were not much to do in the town but the resort itself was pretty awesome.
Hard to say anything poor about the homestead. The staff, dining, activities, and experience is just phenomenal. Not only is the homestead a beautiful resort, but the history and the architecture are so unique! I hope everyone gets a chance to have the same experience my wife and I had here!
If there was a way to rate this place zero stars I would. This is our 3rd year coming to a convention here with our mother at the Homestead Omni Resort and I can assure you it will be the last. In prior years the children s meals have bofeen included since we are with the presenters the convention. Upon arriving we found out that this is no longer the case and in order for my sisters and I to eat this weekend we would have to pay a sum of over $600, even though we had paperwork stating that everything was complimentary. The manager Keith then said to my mother I don t understand what makes you think you don t have to pay for your children s food. So after many tears and talks to management and no luck with the meal plan we finally made it to our room. We requested a room with non-joining rooms and were placed in a room with not 1 but 2 joining rooms. Usually when I don t complain but if we are paying over $500 for a room, I would at least expect that one small request could have been met, in one you could here the man snoring louder than a freight train, and in the other you could here many arguments as well as what seemed to be the sound of them snorting of drugs. The fire place didn t work, and maitnece took hours to come fix it. There was only 1 bed for 4 people to sleep on ( we requested 2 beds), so we called and they offered us cots, then tried to charge us for them, and with the condition of the cots they should have been free to begin with ( nasty and very uncomfortable, I could feel every spring poking into my back). We requested extra robes, slippers, blankets, and extra pillows in which we never received. After the first night (while my mother is working) a manager knocked on the door and asked when we will be leaving the room since we were only booked for 1 night and not 2. Which was NOT the case, she did some digging and found out that I was indeed correct. Later we were in the game room and they don t give change to play the machines, so we went to all the restaurants and stores on site and every single one said with an attitude that they won t give us change. Then that night my mom found a bug in her $12 wine. The Finally came the day to come to check out. They have a vallet service so while my mom was finishing up a few work things we decided to get the car and pack up. In the previous years the bellboys have always handled the luggage cart and take it down to the vehicle for you. There were about 10 bellboys that just sat watched my 15 year old sister struggle to push and turn this massive cart. I begin to load the car as everyone of them just watches. After about 10 minutes of struggling a bellboy finally decides to ask if I need help at which point I had one bag left to pack in. I mean the assistance would have been nice 20 minutes prior when you watched my sister struggle. In the mean time my other sister was inside at the front desk speaking to the manager (again Kieth), the only thing he said was I assume your Mrs. such and such s daughter considering the amount of complaints. I m sorry they didn t help . And that was it. For it being such a well respected, fancy, expensive I felt like we honestly felt we were at a motel 6. In fact I think we would have a better experience there. We did find out it is under new ownership which probably explains the quick downfall of the resort so none the less, If you want to pay a ton of money to be treated like trash and unwelcome The Homestead Omni resort is for sure the place to be!
This was our first trip to Homestead Resort. The facilities are beautiful and the activities were all great. <br/>One thing severely lacking in both clientele and staff is diversity. Seriously, this is the year 2019. The only people of color we noticed were the wait staff in the main dining hall. Not acceptable !<br/>On another note, the food was good, but we felt that there were no middle of the road price options. This was especially true at breakfast. Thirty-five dollars per person is utterly ridiculous. <br/>Will we be back? I m not sure. We are from New York, and to be honest. That eight hour car ride, coupled with the last two hours of the drive on a one lane winding road is pretty hard to take.
Here for my husband's work annual business meeting. It is a great place, loads to do and you don't even have to leave the premises if you don't want to. Our room has an awesome view and was clean and comfortable. It is HUGE so you could get lost in the building, but they have signs everywhere to help you get turned back around.
This was first time staying her . We were so impressed this place and history . This so much do around the Resort . We took the one the trails staffed recommended to us. The food was out standing. Our room was really nice. Felt like home. If you do go to the Hot Springs this place is worth it. It was very relaxing .
This resort is something beyond beautiful. We were there for my cousin's wedding reception, which was phenomenally beautiful in the ball room. The open bar staff were friendly and accommodating. When the dance floor got too loud for our taste, we moved to the very quiet and comfortable lobby, which should actually be described as a grand hall - fireplace, comfortable furniture, and welcoming ambience.
My wife and I stayed there in mid January few years back .Wow this is as good as it gets. We actually got snowed in for two extra nights. Very romantic adventure. If you ever have a chance to do this place. Don't hesitate . You're not gonna regret it. Promise
We have been coming to the Homestead for years, and finally have had enough with sub-par meal experiences. We spent $200 for dinner at Jefferson's and the food was lukewarm at best, and the steak completely inedible. Woody's had great food, but our server was rude and clearly put out to be waiting on us. Our server at the pool bar also seemed irritated and was on her phone when we were waiting for service. We don't mind that parts of the resort are rundown due to its age, including our room/balcony, because it is a charming, historic place, but for the high cost of meals (we were limited to eating onsite due to small children in tow), the quality and service need MAJOR improvements for a 4-star resort.
A tired old hotel that claims to be a "First Class" resort. Needs to be completely renovated . Think of Jack Nicholson at The Stanley Hotel in the movie "The Shining"!
My wife and I came to the homestead to celebrate our 5-year wedding anniversary and were quite displeased with the overall experience. While the resort was beautiful and the food was great, the level of service was severely lacking. Part of it felt like there weren t enough people working to adequately support the number of guests and part of it felt like staff was poorly trained, see some examples below: -10 to 15 min waits at Martha s market in the morning - long waits at the lobby bar made it near impossible to get a drink there - took over an hour to get a sandwich at Rubinos and staff never asked to refill our water or serve us another beverage - waitstaff in the dining room never checked on us to see if we wanted another beverage - bellhops using guest elevators and telling guests to pick one side or the other so they could fit (rather than waiting or taking service elevator) - room not serviced until around dinner time - discarded room service trays by ice machine - my wife (a breastfeeding mother) had requested a refrigerator weeks before our stay to store breast milk and was told that would be no problem at all. Upon arriving, told there was a long wait list for refrigerators and that an extra ice bucket would be sent up. Alseveral hours later, no ice bucket. We requested again for a spare ice bucket and nothing arrived. That next morning we requested one for the 3rd time and finally were able to get a refrigerator and ice bucket on our third try - consierge was less than helpful and somewhat rude when discussing this issue - seemed like dining room was unaware of the reservation we had made (even though it was after 8:00p and the place was nearly empty), seated at the very front (near the entrance) even though there were several better located tables closer to the dance floor that were never filled
The Homestead is an historic American treasure. We spent Thanksgiving here and it was delightful. Our children are grown and so we were a party of five adults and there was something for everyone - ziplining, shooting, hiking, golf, spa with serenity garden and a manager's history tour. Our premier view room in the tower three of us shared, with lovely light and view, was worth the extra money as it afforded a central location in a hotel that is sprawling in size. Upon arrival, I was concerned it was going to feel like a convention hotel as it is such a large property and there were so many people onsite, but that was not the case at all. We ate in the Main Dining Room and Jefferson's multiple times and Woody's once for lunch after golf. All were delightful and delicious - the seated Thanksgiving Dinner in the Main Dining Room was a lovely dinner dance. The staff members at the hotel are across the board gracious, accommodating and informed. The Homestead in appearance is slightly tired in spots but this did not affect the overall enjoyable and wonderful experience we had as a family.
It was a very nice place, but to many rules for a resort. Dressed codes for all restaurants and halls. All activities have additional fees. Not much is included in the price. Even mini golf you had to pay extra to play. For the money I would rather stay at an all inclusive resort that understands your there for relaxation and you don't want to wear business casual attire to dinner.
A family friendly resort with activities for all. Resort has beautiful scenery as well as history. Great place for a family vacation for all ages. Be sure to make a spa appointment and this will reserve you a spot by the spa pool and mineral pool...you will not have access without a reservation or by buying a day pass. (Adult only pool).
I love this resort for so many reasons. It's very much worth the money paid, there is so much to do, the grounds are gorgeous and there is so much history associated with it. I am already wanting to go back.
Everything about this place is beautiful. It is so peaceful and relaxing. We have kids of different ages and we all enjoyed ourselves. Would definitely recommend visiting.
Excellent experience so far. The old look is nice, but the facilities are well kept and clean. Great service and opportunities for activities! Looking forward to visit again!
Fancy. But don't stay just one night or you will find most of the amenities are closed after check in. And don't open until after check out. So you have to stay two nights in order to enjoy amenities.
A fantastic experience top to bottom with great staff and great food/drink. The grounds were impressive and were starting to be decorated for Christmas, which made them look even more beautiful. Spent the first day in the spa garden where the staff could not have been nicer and the amenities were top notch. Try everything there. If you have the means, I highly recommend The Homestead. Do yourself a favor and visit the spa - you will not regret it.
The homestead is a beautiful Resort! It is one of the highlights of my years to be able to stay in this location. It is a shame that the Omni has degraded many of the beautiful classy Traditions that the previous owners had maintained, but nevertheless the homestead stands as an old and Noble estate of Virginia.
We have been going to the Homestead for over 12 years now. We had a room booked with a balcony and a view, they called us less than 24 hours before we were going to check in, only to tell us they were switching our room to a different location and we would not have a balcony or a view, with no explanation as to why. We get to the room, the wall paper is falling off the walls, the ceiling had water damage and they didn't clean or wipe down the bathroom or change our sheets once in 4 days. Dinner in the Dining Hall took us 3 hours, which made us late to an event scheduled that evening. The service is not what it used to be...not even close. For the amount of money it costs, the Hotel is not worth the stay anymore.
Wonderful old school service and atmosphere for couples and families alike with great activities and fantastic food including dedicated GF food choices and GF educated staff.
Wonderfully relaxing experience. Beautiful rooms. Everyone that works there treated is like royalty. Incredibly delicious food. Great family resort. Loved the Christmas decorations that were up. In all a perfect trip.
Staff was great. Beautiful setting enjoyed the tip. Had a great time on the zip line would recommend it to anyone. Lots of activities were packed or booked full so book and plan in advance. The hotel is in a little bit of rough shape for example the door to our bathroom would not shut.
We booked the endless adventure and had an absolutely wonderful time. There was so much to do, the staff was wonderful, and the accommodations were excellent. Would go again when I have time to spend. Be prepared to be exhausted each night.
This place is truly amazing and have stayed here before. When I entered the room the first thing I thought was who left their dirty socks in here. It did not have a fresh smell and was very muggy in the room. Internet did not work in my room as well which is very disappointing since its 300 a night. TV is very basic but not overall an issue for me . I have stayed at similar place for less price and had much more in terms of overall service. Everything is extra here and pricey so plan on a hefty budget. The grounds and pool area are nice and the location of the resort is set in a beautiful location.
We stayed two nights and had two different rooms due to availability each night. Every staff member we came in contact with was friendly and accommodating. The resort had a nice amount of planned activities each day. The arcade and Jefferson bar were both nice and updated. Sadly though the resort itself is in desperate need of upgrade and maintenance. There's a difference between historic and well-maintained and preserved and historic and rundown. Unfortunately much of the resort is rundown. From peeling paint and wallpaper to crooked and leaning staircases and broken room heaters. We know many people like the place, though for us the resort was disappointing.
Our stay was pleasant. While we knew it was a historic hotel, we were quite disappointed at the lack of young (3 & 11 months) kid friendly activities. Wee did not anticipate any special activities for the 11 month old, but based on the website we thought there would be more of interest to our 3 year old. Only one hotel restaurant truly accommodated children of that age. The game room and movies were not really of interest as they were for older children. Thankfully it was gorgeous outside and we stayed at the pool most of the day. We played mini golf and did the hayride which were fun. I did appreciate that they did not charge for kids under 5 to participate in those things. Overall, the hotel had beautiful historic charm. I think it's quite unfortunate the lack of repairs that have been done to maintain the building. It rained one night and water leaked through our balcony door. The wood door frame was clearly rotted through. There were several areas where renovations are needed. It was also not as clean as I would have expected. After my youngest picked up a cracker from under the bed I did a search under all furniture and found an array of wrappers, a fidgit spinner, etc. I also had to wipe the moulding with a baby wipe to remove the hair and dust from his reach. I'm not a clean freak germophobe, I understand we are in a public hotel, but for $400+/night I shouldn't have to clean my own room before it's usable. It was an experience and I'm glad we went. There are other hotels, with equal history or charm, that we have visited for comparable money that provided a much greater variety of kid friendly activities and were clean/better maintained.
We did a mother/daughter spa getaway and it was fantastic. Beautiful property with great amenities and service. Rooms were reasonably priced for the resort. We spent most of our time at the spa and the spa pool area - it was perfect.
The Homestead isn t what it used to be according to those we know whom have stayed there. Hopefully they can turn the ship around and improve on what was once a wonderful destination.
The Homestead is a jewel! The hotel is an elegant grande dame with activities for every age. One of my grandchildren said, "The Homestead has everything you need, and you don't even have to go outside." But we did go outside to ski, ice skate, fly fish, and hike.
The Homestead was a beautiful resort with lots to do! The staff were so helpful and nice. The spa was VERY nice. My husband could have stayed there the entire visit. We really enjoyed our visit. Too bad it was only one night.
I was really excited to visit this resort. I had been many years ago and I remembered how really awesome it was. It still has some amazing parts but our experience was very lacking on this visit. There was another guest staying here that shared my name, I actually had two reservations, one by the company that was hosting our event and one I was going to extend personally. They somehow managed to cancel my first reservation which is the only one I used. I canceled the second one because my wife got sick while we were there. They charged me for three days instead of the two we stayed and I was waiting on the credit for over a month. I finally called AMEX to find out the issue. Holly and the rep and I had a three conversation. Somehow they have an accounting office somewhere that had to issue a credit. I waited almost a week after waiting over a month and still no credit. I called again today and the lady is off today.
There are also other charges we were billed for in addition to paying for an extra day we we never used.
For a high end hotel I have never been treated so poorly. I will not likely never be coming back based on the poor treatment.
They are the ones that screwed up and are poorly trained. They have made their problem, my problem. Not to mention I have had to spend hours on the phone to figure out what happened so I could get my credit returned to me.
Rooms, service and food were great, amazing actually! But upset they charged me 20 dollars for parking my own car and carrying my own bags and 75 dollars to just use the hot tub for a few minutes, which I didnt do
We were here for our daughter's wedding. Everything was wonderful. The food was delicious and the service impeccable!! Ryder and Scarlett were awesome as was the rest of the staff. I cannot imagine a better venue. Our room was beautiful. The entire staff was so friendly.
This is a wonderful resort. Comfortable, elegant, fine dining and casual. Great outdoor facilities. Many opportunities to stay busy, do nothing, or mix it up. Everything about the Homestead is nice.
Really great old-school hotel shuttle like the one in The Shining. Could not give 5 stars because it's starting to show a little wear though and needs to be refreshed.
The indoor pool is huge (75 feet long and 7 feet deep) and Spa are really nice though. However with two steam rooms and two experiential and chill showers there is no sauna.
While overpriced, the service is excellent as well as the food. The lazy river is an excellent place to relax. The meeting space was chilly, but that is typical.
This hotel is dirty. I noticed that pretty immediately in the rooms when mine had hair all over the floor and the beds, which didn t feel clean. The hotel is super old and everything thing there needs to be renovated. The gym has dated machines which don t measure distance in miles but in kilometers. Very weird.
I am giving them two stars because the food was very good and the grounds are beautiful.
Husband loved golfing at both courses - said it was among the best golfing of his life. Excellent service and staff. However, there is someone "at the top" making poor decisions for this hotel. Why is the breakfast door hanger for breakfast to go instead of in room dining? Bizarre. I left more details in my post-stay review, but I think the Homestead needs to get their act together.
The Omni Homestead is one of a kind. I recommend everyone visit this location at least once in their life. I mainly stayed in spa area during my stay and it was absolute heaven. I can't wait to return to try more of the many activities they offer year round. The staff, rooms, restaurants, and grounds were all top of the line. Thank you Omni Homestead staff for such a memorable stay and experience. We WILL be back.
Nice hotel, expensive, place was nearly deserted week after memorial day 2019. Activities were fun but pricey, canoe trip very fun for family. Some restaurants and bars not open limiting casual dining for family, lazy river and water slides were not open all the time. Limited dining options nearby. Afternoon tea was nice, staff very friendly (basically the local people all work there), older hotel that shows some age but still very nice and beds were very comfortable. Extra fees add up, only one store took cash, beautiful part of Virginia
This was our first time at the resort and it exceeded our expectations!! The beautiful grounds, amazing resort and amenities, not to mention the history of the property itself!! I would definitely recommend it to anyone!!! Such an incredible place!!
This is our 3rd year staying at the Omni. It has been wonderful each time. The history of the whole area is wonderful and the resort itself is so interesting each time we go there are many new things to learn. The historical tour is definitely a must. The Gorge hike is so fascinating and we enjoy it so much we take it every time. If history is your thing the Homestead needs to be on your list.
Undeniably beautiful grounds that are perfectly manicured. Just being on the property is relaxing as you'll find rocking chairs to relax in while sipping tea and visiting, evening wood burning fire-pits with seating outdoors, well spaced, nearly private hammocks under the trees, unique experiences like falconry, archery and waterfall hikes. For a remote destination, the food is delicious and meets any dietary need. Wonderfully diverse and professional staff who provide southern hospitality with charm and a smile. I enjoyed a perfect business stay at the Homestead Resort & Spa.
Poorly maintained rooms with bathrooms looking like they haven't been cleaned in months. Sagging mattresses, creaking floors, peeling g paints, ac not working, moldy smells, etc. I've been ripped of by being charged over $350.00/night. I absolutely do not recommend this resort.
Probably the worst service we have seen. We stayed here 8 years ago when Omni did not own the resort and the service was impeccable. Afternoon tea was the highlight with lots of food options and fantastic service! We came with friends this weekend. Room service alone took 2 hours! The conceirge gets and front desk were not helpful. Would not come back. Food was very basic and over priced.
Had a nice 3-night stay, but overall quality of service and accommodation provided did not match up to the price tag. Room was clean with ample space, but the mattress was severely sagging and had little accomodation for seating outside of the bed. Food and drink was very expensive compared to the quality provided, and many places were not open during the time we were there. Additional fees for parking ($20) and resort fee ($39) seemed excessive compared to what was provided. The historical significance of the place was pretty neat. Overall, I would not plan to return or recommend to others. The value is just not there for the high price tag compared to other alternatives that can be realized.
From the moment my family and I arrived everyone treated us different. Being an interracial couple with children everyone is rude. Everything is over priced and the food is not worth it. If your not white I would not advise you to go bc these people are very closed minded. Very rude and stuck up.
Property is rough around the edges. Very stuffy atmosphere throughout the resort. Food quality is very good however. Although they advertise as being dog friendly , they really are not. Dog is not allowed anywhere on the property except your room.
I ate at the Casino restaurant for lunch. The food was excellent, recommend getting the salad instead of fries. Everyone was friendly and happy to tell you about the resort.
Nice place but definitely not worth the money. Maintenance is horrible! When it rains there are plenty of leaks inside, and not even a bucket underneath to catch the water? Movie night is a farce. Everything else is ok but not worth it.
