The reservation process was so bad our party decided to drive an hour and a half longer to stay at a resort that is honest and honors their quoted prices. The rate for a traditional room at the Omni was $174.00 when I did an online search through the hotel site. I called to see if it would be more economical for our party to combine and stay in a suite. I was not told I could place a 24 hour hold on the room while I contacted the others in my party. I was also not told quoted rates change within minutes. I called back within a half hour to book, and I was told the rate for the traditional room increased to $225. I went online and told the reservationist that it showed $208. She then quoted a $239 and a $280 rate. I asked to speak to a manger, Ashley, who readily admitted the errors of the two people I had spoken with, but refused to honor the original $174 rate. She also refused to give a Resort credit of any kind to make up the difference. When I said I would stay somewhere else, she offered to keep the $208 rate but extend the cancellation date to one week prior to our stay. After looking more closely at others reviews, I believe Ashley did us a favor. We are looking forward to our stay at a resort with comparable amenities, no hidden costs, and much more reasonable prices. I am completely disappointed by the customer service at Omni; I had expected so much more.

Per person to play mini golf!!! Seriously! Ordered a double gin and tonic. They charged me over $22, I can buy a 64 oz Tangouray for $45! C'mon!

Fantastic resort that we have been going to for 20 years. Omni has made some great improvements but got rid of the old bowling alley that was a classic. Great food and service everywhere on the resort. Very expensive but worth it.

Huge place that's easy to get lost in it is so large. But a throwback to the old days of craftsmanship and attention-to-detail. Prices for everything here are ultra high, reminiscent of the elite 1% who built this place and pandered to their peers

Such a lovely hotel. The Homestead is a quiet, stately hotel framed by gorgeously manicured grounds, with a friendly staff - a truly relaxing experience for both mind and body. I took advantage of a couple spa treatments and my facial was one of the best! So relaxing to soak in the Serenity Garden and the Aqua Spa with the mountains surrounding. If you are tired, and beat up by today s rush to accomplish - give yourself a gift. Kid friendly!

The serenity garden was nice and relaxing. They have a natural hot spring that you can soak in and it feels great!

I stopped in here a number of years ago with my child who was then only around eight years old. The minute I pulled up outside their office, I was invaded by a man who demanded to park my car for me.
He was insinuating that I could not go in the office unless I first let HIM park my car.
I explained that I could park it myself and he was treating me like some sort of an idiot that was invading their property.
I NEVER NEVER NEVER let anyone in my car who I don't know!
The idea that someone who I never saw before would demand to get in my driver's seat was insulting and dehumanizing. My first inclination was to start screaming.
Just because someone can afford to stay here does not mean they're demanding ninnies who expect a total stranger to park their car. They also are not flunkies who deserve to be treated like they don't know where to park.
Even the most expensive hotels on earth do not insult a potential customer by treating them like they're spoiled and shallow and especially do not treat them like criminal trespassers.
I drove off and never went back.

Needs a major update and renovations. Condition of facility does not reflect the price paid. Way outdated, poor upkeep (surely previous owners to blame for this), shame on them. Such a beautiful facility with so much potential, just left to fall apart.
And we had to pay for internet! WHO CHARGES FOR INTERNET THESE DAYS? Come on OMNI!!!
*Thank god our plan is unlimited and there was cell service!
Food is great. Wine selection probably the worst I ever saw. You guys can get better house wines than that! Who is your sommelier? He should be let go. I have 20 years in F&B and a there is no Kendall Jackson worth $20+ a glass. COME ON! I expected way more selection and much higher quality wine than what was offered. There are tons of good wines that aren't expensive. Try them! Get a new wine rep. The wine definitely did not match the quality of the food at all. I feel sorry for the Chef in that regard. Nothing is worse than not being able to compliment your dinner with the proper wine.
The Spa is beautiful. We got a couples Swedish message. Unfortunately it was horrible. $436 with tip included. Should have taken away the tip. The massage therapist had obviously very low experience giving a Swedish Massage. No pressure on the muscles, poor ability to remove the knots, just a lot of rubbing. However, the facility made up for it all. Turkish bath and cold shower made for a great combination.
So if you're looking to spend a mortgage payment for the weekend, wait until the OMNI finishes the renovations. You'll get more bang for the buck.

I have been going to the homestead my whole life. On my recent and last visit the resort was in such bad shape it was embarrassing. I know a large update is on the way but the Omni does not seem to respect this icon nor were we told about how bad the resort had been allowed to become. The Omni manager nor corporate responded to my email complaint. I spoke to some staff who had been there for generations and they were embarred and fearful of a new owner that showed such a lack of respect for this once grand lady.

Very historic place to visit and spend a night at. We wouldn't go out of our way to come to stay here though. It's hard to figure your way around this area due to limited signage indicating where the hell to go. It's trial and error, especially at night.

Beautiful historic resort! The staff are definitely this resorts greatest asset. They are well trained, courteous and make you feel right at home. The spa and Casacade golf course is first class. The food and dining experience at The Jefferson was superb. I will definitely return.

A great name but a mixed bag. The rooms need to be upgraded and get some significant TLC. There were little details such as dirty carpets, dingy fixtures, loose outlets, etc., that you shouldn't see in rooms this expensive. The dining is great and the grounds are beautiful.

Was a bit disappointed about just how obscure/arcane the dinner entree menu had become...we are 'foodies' but for the days we were there at least the selections weren't the best. Of course the Chateaubriand was great but the others were super odd- different is great but these were way weird....and a disappointment.

Beautiful property and excellent activities. Unfortunately, the hotel was filthy and in a general state of disrepair. It does not meet basic quality standards one would expect for the diamond rating it holds and the room rate being paid. The door trim was tearing away from the wall where someone clearly tried to force their way in and the air conditioning unit was so rusted and covered in mildew that I question the quality of air we were breathing. I would not recommend staying here.

Pros - Mike and Doug at the lobby bar are awesome, they made us feel welcome and had great conversation. They made it feel like a neighborhood bar. Allen at the Jefferson Restaurant had excellent service. He made sure our food came out in a timely manner and all of our needs were met.
Cons - We ate at the Jefferson Lounge Bar the first night and were waited on by Art behind the bar. He wasn t friendly at first but warmed up....weird if you re a bartender....At the end of the night he swiped our card 2x without notifying us. We found out the next day on our credit card statement. We went to the front desk who couldn t do anything, we then went to the manager of Jefferson s Restaurant. We explained what happened asking for a credit to the room since we were going back that night for dinner. She looked into and said the 1st charge wasn t finalized and they really didn t charge it. If it wasn t finalized then why was it on our statement? If it wasn t finalized there would have been a refund of the same amount to our card to the statement which there also was not. She refused to do anything else and said we would have to wait until Monday for their accounting team to look into it. What an absolute mess - this is not 5 star service nor was this a welcome experience to our vacation. We brought the issue to concierge who ended up stating the same thing and also acted like we were inconveniencing them. We never got a call back from concierge or anyone else. We ate at the Jefferson Restaurant that night and were ignore by the manager who didn t even come over to see if we were having a positive experience that evening. We ate at Woody s for lunch and were waiting at the table for 30 minutes before getting a water or drinks. The inside of the restaurant was filled with smoke from cooking BBQ and the ladies bathroom did not have soap.
Room - the rooms were very clean and tidy but due to the age of the building the doors didn t function properly. The bathroom door wood was warped and did not close at all. We also had to shove the main entry door to open or close.
Needless to say - we will NEVER come back to this resort. It s not a 5 star experience nor do they have 5 star service. If we want to come back out to the mountains we will go back to the Greenbriar where they take pride in making sure their guests are comfortable and well accommodated for.

First of all, an impressive institution! The staff is really friendly and cute - cheering up visitors. Possibly no needs at all are unmet in this big hotel complex. Except for one: at no place - at least to my knowledge -, the hotsprings can be seen and enjoyed in their natural state. What a pitty! The only place you can encounter these amazing waters is in the bathing complex, together with a heavy smell of chloride. An additional, quite special issue is that the famous, near-by Jefferson Pools can be found on several paintings and photographs. Yet, they are at the edge of collapsing and absolutely abandoned. Why not take better care of jewels in the direct surroundings - and offer this as a special attraction to hotel guests?
We stay every year at Homestead and take the whole...
We stay every year at Homestead and take the whole family. Our last visit we decided after skiiing we would go horse back riding- me and my daug-in- law. This experience resulted in a ER trip and a laceration of my hand requiring sutures, antibiotic injections and pain medications for 2 weeks. I had a 6in laceration on my hand from the horse bucking me in a attempt to get me off the horse. While I understand horses can be a bit unpredictable, it is unsatisfactory that the Horse Guide with us could not recognize the horse was agitated and was at risk of making it a unsafe sitation for me and my daug-in-law. The horse was displaying erratic behavior from the second I mounted and I asked repeatedly if I should dismount. My daug-in-law asked as well seeing how upset the horse was behaving and would not listen to any commands. The Guide repeatly stated "I haven't seen this before" and never approached the horse, gave me guidance and appeared confused as to why the horse was acting that way. After 15 minutes, of asking for help, the horse bucked me and than raised up after I was not removed and upon my dismount, I cut my right hand with the bridle resulting in a 6 in deep laceration. My horse went to the horse my daug-in-law was on and agitated that horse until she also had to dismount. The entire time, the Guide never intervened. I am not blaming the horse, but the Horse Guide should have recognized the abnormal behavior and done SOMETHING. It was a very scary experience and one I felt could have been prevented. We were very lucky we were not severely injured. It made the entire rest of the trip miserable with my right dominant hand being unable to use.
Omni Homestead refused to pay any toward the cost of the ER- a 800.00 bill I received.
I would advised anyone going to be extremely cautious of the horse riding Guides and allowing small children or unexperienced adults to participate in the horse riding excursion. I am disappointed how this was handled by Omni and no responsibilty was taken by them. The Guide was completely incompetent. I wanted to warn anyone so this doesn't end up being tragic experience for some family.

I had heard about the Homestead for many years and was looking forward to spending a few days there. The hotel was a total disappointment. Our room was worn out. The furniture was scratched and banged up. One upholstered chair was so faded and threadbare that the padding and stuffing in the arm rest was coming out. It looked like something from a garage sale. The restaurant food was very average and extremely expensive. The hotel staff is very careless about how billing or charging expenses to your room. I was charged $150 for breakfast on the day before I arrived in Virginia! I paid for my dinner with a credit card, but the hotel charged me for it again on the final bill when I checked out! The resort fee covers practically nothing. Even a hike to through the nearby woods is $60!

Spent Memorial Day weekend here... the Homestead is a bit dated and rundown (the lobby furniture really needs to be replaced) but the rooms are comfortable enough. The pools are nice but get crowded on a holiday weekend, so go early if you want a chair (they don't have any mechanism to enforce turnover). However, the real disappointment is the service. Room Service is terrible: they're late, they serve rotten fruit, and they can't get any order correct; but the most insulting thing is they don't care and are rude and argumentative if you call to ask why your order is 40mins late, wrong, or why they felt it was okay to put rotting strawberries on every breakfast plate. The restaurant isn't much better as you'll share one slow and forgetful waiter with every table around you. Just give up if there is something wrong with your entree, you want another beverage, or condiments, as they won't return after delivering your entree. Our stay required numerous calls to management to try to address issues that then repeated despite intervention.

The resort is an exceptional property with charm and grandeur. It's so quaint to be able to call the hotel, and speak to a live person promptly. The staff had a friendliness of a bed and breakfast, which was impressive given the scope of the property. Everyone was dedicated to making this the best possible experience. The tubing, horseback riding, and family night events were our favorite activities. I think you won my childrens' hearts with all the things to do coupled with the dessert buffet. They were already talking about coming back in the summer half way through our trip. The atmosphere is so relaxing, even amongst the many, many guests. I am grateful for the getaway in such a beautiful setting with such kind staff who truly made the experience memorable!

New ownership has not change the lovely staff and uniqueness of the Homestead. Whether you golf, shoot, swim, bike, ride, fish or simply want to relax and enjoy the stunning nature around you, in my opinion, it does not get better than the Homestead. PS They are in process of renovating entire property which was sorely needed.

The property is beautiful and most of the staff were excellent. The single king rooms have a luxurious bath room and very comfortable beds (bring your own pillow, the provided ones provide no support). The indoor pool is warm and very relaxing. The food is exorbitantly expensive. For a budget friendly alternative, I recommend Lubby's Dinner, a short walk away. The hiking trails are good fun for the family hikers. At a 2 nights for the price of one, it is a great deal.

The golf course is worth going to the resort! EVERYTHING is way overpriced!!!! We weren t able to get a good read on the staff. Some were friendly and helpful, some where clueless, and some where down right rude! The 3 stars are due to overall being ridiculously expensive, the super rude way we were treated at the activity center, the website not matching what was offered. If you have a whole bunch of money you don t mind throwing around, this would be a great trip. But those of us without the silver spoon (middle class) are treated a bit differently! It s too bad!

The location is beautiful and the ambience, especially at the holidays, magical. Some additional training is needed at the front desk and the rooms, primarily the bathrooms, need updating. There was very little water pressure and the water constantly switched from hot to cold. The food was fine but nothing memorable. I was told by long-time employees that Omni is planning on a major renovation. That is good news because The Homestead is well worth the investment and once updated, a great destination for anyone. Even without the renovation it has much to offer year round.

We had come here 9 years ago for a trip and always wanted to go back. We made it this year for Thanksgiving and we loved it. This time, unlike before, we came with kids and they also really enjoyed the experience. Coming over a holiday provides many activities that are not available during the rest of the year. We were able to do scarf making, bird seed, cookies decorating, and more! The hotel exudes a cozy feel and the large, warm rooms ramble across the resort. The lobby with it's real wood fireplaces and abundant seating is very comfortable. The hot springs heated pools are a treat. Finally, there are a ton of food options right on the resort. Probably the only downside is that the rooms themselves are small and old.

We spent a day and a half here and stayed in one of the Deluxe King rooms. The bed was comfortable and everything was very clean.
I was blown away by the exceptional service here. The staff were extremely friendly at all stops here throughout my trip. From the valet service to the wait staff in the restaurants; EVERYONE was just so friendly and helpful!
The food was incredible at the Jefferson as well as the Dining Room. I recommend the Prime Rib from the Jefferson. You will not be disappointed! There are many other restaurants on site as well that we didn't have a chance to check out.
I also got to enjoy a couples massage at the spa which was amazing. Included with our massages were passes into their adults only pool area, that offers a natural hot spring, a hot tub, an in ground pool, and a sauna.
I can't wait to go back!

The AC in my room did not work. It was too hot to sleep, so I didn t sleep for 3 nights. I brought this issue up to the front desk twice - the first time I was told they fixed it and the second time they told me they would give a different room if they determined there was a problem, which I was then told everything was working fine. Would have left the windows open if it wasn t for spot lights shining right at your face all night.
On top of all that, there was mold and rust in the bathroom and the pool was disgusting (oily brown substance on tiles, fungus and mold growing on the bottom of the pool, rotting wood, peeling paint). WiFi was supposed to be included but there wasn t any available in the whole property.
I thought this was going to be a nice place to celebrate a special occasion but I am beyond disappointed. What a waste of time and money!
This was the most disappointing getaway I've had. ...
This was the most disappointing getaway I've had. I called about 2 weeks in advance of my stay to make reservations for pedicures, dinner, and activities. I called 3 times over the course of 3 days and left messages each time, and no one called me back. I finally called again and asked for the hotel manager, and he was able to accommodate my requests, and offered a room upgrade and spa passes to make up for the lack of return calls. Then I received 3 voicemail messages from various people asking if they could help me make a reservation, so the staff clearly don't communicate with each other. When we checked in at 4pm, we went to our room to take a nap, then got up and went to dinner at Sam Snead's tavern where we had a reservation at 7pm. We got to the restaurant only to learn that someone had called at 5:30pm to cancel our reservation. Luckily, they were able to fit us in, but the service by our waiter, Mike, was appallingly bad. The next day, we went for pedicures, and were expecting something really fantastic given that the price was 4 times what one would normally pay for a pedicure elsewhere. While the women were nice who were giving the pedicures, it was just your average run-of-the-mill service that I could have gotten at a salon for $25. We followed that with the cascades hike, and we had heard that the guide, Brian, was really funny and entertaining. Brian was on vacation, so Allen was our guide. So disappointing. He had very little to say and didn't speak loud enough for all 12 of us on the hike to hear him, and he spent most of the time talking with a young woman interested in herbology. We'd all hike ahead, then sit around waiting for 10-15 minutes for the 2 of them to catch up. I couldn't believe we had paid for that. What should have been a 2 to 2 1/2 hour hike ended up being closer to 3 1/2 hours, causing us to miss the daily tea they apparently serve in the lobby. At dinner at Jefferson's that night, they were out of the first 3 glasses of wine we ordered from the menu. The waitress went to one of the other restaurants to see if they had any of them, but no luck. So we finally just said, bring us whatever. I will say that the waitress, Cricket, was very nice and the salmon was excellent.
Other than that, the whole place is really run down. There were stains and holes in the furniture, the curtains and carpet were stained and fraying, there was water damage to the prints hanging on the walls, and things just generally seemed to be falling apart. They have displays talking about the history of the place, and they were filthy with dust and bug carcasses. Simple things like making sure the tag for the silverware display matched what was actually on display weren't even right. When we checked in, there were hairs all over the bathroom from the previous guests. When we put out dirty dishes in the hall for clearing, they were still there 24 hours later. They parked a cleaning cart directly in front of the door for several hours, but didn't actually clean our room until around 4:30pm. They didn't give us fresh water glasses or of the complimentary coffee (and no teas were offered at all). Given how much they charge, I was expecting better. On top of your room fee, they also charge a daily "resort service charge" and a dailyfee for you using their parking lot (not even valet). There was also rarely anyone actually at the concierge desk. We had requested a late check-out, but ended up getting up early and leaving because we didn't want to spend any extra time there than we had to. Upon check-out, they asked if we had had a chance to review our invoice but we hadn't even received one yet. If one or two things had gone wrong, I could have overlooked it, but almost every aspect of our stay went wrong. Start to finish, this was a hugely disappointing stay and we won't be returning or recommending the facility.

Fabulous and Fantastic describe this experience. The beautiful drive to the resort through the mountains of West VA was awesome. The resort itself was more beautiful in person than can be imagined, so make sure and charge your camera batteries. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful, and the room was exquisite. A tour of the hotel should probably be offered, as it is massive and it can be difficult to navigate. We loved the formal dinner in the evening, with live jazz music. We also loved the buffet breakfast. The activity options in the hotel (indoor pool, game rooms, spa, pool table room) and outside (skeet, golf, walking trails, tennis, lazy river) are endless. Pricing is of course on par with Disney, so plan accordingly, and enjoy spoliing someone special.

Overall, the Homestead is a nice place to visit. Our bad experience was at the Casino restaurant.
The service was just fair, but not the usual "excellent". The food was very disappointing with both the quality and quantity. The clam chowder was merely a thinned broth and the tuna steak salad had 3 nickel sized pieces of tuna on a bed of greens. The grilled shrimp sandwich had boiled shrimp in it. The waiter never offered coffee refills and a manager was nowhere to be found. There are any number of places we could have taken out of town guests to eat and most of them would have been less the the $85 we spent at the Casino.

It's not the Homestead I remember from a few years ago. My room was somewhat of a disappointment. The chair and ottoman had coffee stains all over it. One side of the toilet paper holder was coming loose from the wall. The room smelled musty. I had to wait over 20 min. for my car to be brought around. I used to think The Homestead was as nice as The Greenbrier. Not anymore. The Greenbrier is head and shoulders a nicer venue then The Homestead. I hope the new Omni owners get their act together. It's a shame to let a gem like this go downhill.

While there the electricity went off for a 30 minute period. There was no automatic emergency generator. Had to wait for lights while attempts were made to start generator. Electricity was restored before generator kicked in. A beautiful building. Very large and ornate. Ate at lunch buffet which was very good.

Great place, if you want to just get away and relax. The history behind this resort is amazing! Many U.S. presidents have stayed here. They really do it up for Christmas. It is in the middle of nowhere, which is great for relaxing. There are shops in the resort, and 1 or 2 on the grounds, but if you are looking for a shopping trip or adventure, this is probably not the place for you. The golf course is beautiful, and they have horse back riding, carriage rides, a gun range, a ski slopes, and several pools. The pools are heated and there are 2 outdoor and 1 inside. They also have a very nice water area with slides and a lazy river, for summer guest. There is also a spa on site.

My mother and I stayed here for my birthday, which was during the off time between Christmas and MLK holidays.
We loved tea hour, the bell hop and valet services. And the array of activities. Ice skating was a lot of fun, as was snowboarding on the beginner slopes. The guest services was so lovely to include some macaroons and a birthday card on arrival.
We were not so happy with the serenity garden spa experience there was a lot of algae in the octagonal warm spring, and the stone reflexology walk had very little water and was thick with algae. When I mentioned it, I was told it is supposed to be like that and it is cleaned daily!!
Otherwise, there was an indoor steam and dry sauna, hot chairs (which I could barely leave they felt so lovely, especially after a day of snowboarding) and lounges for relaxing, with tea, fruit and nuts. It was off season, so the fires were not lit outdoors, which made it an awkward dining experience (carried food up to the indoor lounges). The outdoor dry sauna was in need of some repair.
