This place needs to be shut down!!! Extremely rude, lazy and totally incompetent!!!

They towed my car after a car accident, haven t spoke to me since, I keep getting hung up on every time I call, they re ignoring me. They left me out of a car forever now and keep expecting me to pay them when they haven t helped me with anything. I could ve sold my car for parts and got a new one already but they took my car.

This is the worst insurance company that I ever heard of. I had call several times today before 11:00 am just like a bill collection agency will do and still haven't talk to a manager yet. They only have one manager for each department and the reps that answer the phone in claims likes to talk over you. Manager is always in a meeting they will never call back. On my scale I will this company negative - 100. This company get no stars.

Buyer beware worst ins company out there. Would give it 0 stars if that was an option. My truck was parked in from of my apartment and was hit in the middle of the night. Luckily I heard it and went outside or else the guy would drive away. Long story short he was arrested at the scene for possession and use of heroin. This dumpster fire of an ins company wouldn t cover me because I was working out of state and I failed to let them know. The only saving grace is that the guy got arrested and charged, so his ins company covered it. If he did drive away I d be stuck with a $15,000 bill.

They are WORTH LESS!!! And the secretaries have the WORST ATTITUDE ever, they supervisor never called me back and it's been over a week. If I could give them negative stars I would be more than happy! Do not waste your money on this insurance!

They web site don't work to well but friendly when you call and do business

Having this company as insurance company for my vehicle, paying high rates for more than 3 years full cover premium insurance ,every time i did pay on time , and the only 1 minor incident they denied to cover , that was stressful dealing with the customer service representative, in the end they pay me 825 dollars from a 3000 $ in damages., i regret to hire this insurances company. Be carefull when you choose auto insurance .

Their insured rear ended me and this is where the disaster came.
This company hires someone to give an estimate on your car then they send you all this paperwork to complete. They place an adjuster, who sends you paperwork to sign off that you are settling for the estimate that was done. Which I didn't sign because the body shop said its only and estimate and it could change. I took my car to a toyota body shop locally and it did change. So they send their adjuster back out. They try to low ball as much as possible. Also they tell you, they can't get you a rental car but if you rent it and provide the receipt they will pay it. Well after I returned the rental I sent in the receipt. The next day I had an email to sign a settlement form for $145 less than the receipt. I said no way. I called the adjuster the find out the figures, well in the mist of conversation he said I knew you would try to con me. I said excuse me I'm just trying to get the billed paid base on you insured causing my car to be in the shop. So I called the next day to talk with the owner Frank Phelan and I had to leave a message because of course he wouldn't answer. He sent the adjuster to call me back and all he offered was $30 more dollars. I said no, and I called the state and the state said they should pay the whole bill since you car was in the body shop. So I called and left a message on the owner, Larry Sullivan and he failed to call back as well. He finally had a supervisor call me and pay the full bill after he realized how racist the adjuster was towards me. Such cowards! How can you own a company and not at least call the customer after all of that.

I was involved in a rear end accident a few months back with an American Freedom Insurance customer. A representative from the company reached out and assisted me through out the entire claim process and kept me updated every step of the way. American Freedom was very professional and handled my claim in a timely and efficient manner. I will definitely recommend this company to my friends and family.

American Freedom Insurance is fantastic. Customer service is outstanding. Always attentive and prompt. Highly recommend.

I would give the a negative 10 if I could. They are horrible. One of their customers hit me and they make you go through hoops. Wait a minute... your customer HIT me. They criminals. Do not do business with these jerks.

I don't think any insurance company could possibly be worst than AFI. They had full intend of denying my claim as soon as I called them then waited me out a month and couldn't even tell me where my car was. Later founded it in a tow yard over 40 miles away that they let fees rack up on.

This insurance company is the worst. Their representatives are ignorant and they clearly sont care about anyones claim or accident. I dont even feel lile ecplaining my horrible experience with them because it was that bad. But they decided to change my policy without my permission and add $180 a month just because my son has a license even tho he doesnt have a car mor drive mine. I highly recommend people to stay away from this garbage excuse of an insurance company. They only do things like that because pwople let them get away with it. I completly refuse.

It will be almost two years since I ve working at American Freedom Insurance and I can say it s a passionate and professional work environment. The company works in a team basis and everyone that is employed by American Freedom Insurance is willing to help you out whenever you need it.

This is the worst company ever! I had a rental car for 10 days while my car was repaired. I talked to them everyday. They told me everything would be taken care of then they sent me a reimbursement check for 3 days! I'm out $300 and I was the one hit!! This is b.s!! I will be taking them to small claims for my $300.

Horrible company...good luck on trying to get anything accomplished with them...They took MONTHS to finish my claim for minor body work...when you call they give you run arounds & sometimes hang up!..They are at the bottom of the bucket!

The people that work here really care about what they do and the customers they talk to everyday. This is a great place to work.

BEWARE they do not pay claims. I got hit by their driver which was at fault as stated in police report and per their insured. Damge was over $4000 after getting 3 estimates. They only approve $507 which is not even enough for paint. They also DO NOT pay out to their own insured ones. BE CAREFULL they should not be operating bussiness. STAY AWAY

Totaled our car because parts were to expensive. When dealing with them they just give you the run around.

What an absolute joke of a company. I am mind blown that this company is still in operation. They denied my claim because they claim that their driver was racing a "phantom car" and because of this "phantom car" their driver crashed into my property causing damage. They are blaming a ghost. A ghost is responsible.

Edit. After calling them back a week later, they changed their story saying that two phantom cars were racing and their driver was simply trying to get out of the way and ended up crashing into my property. Funny how that makes their driver completely innocent. It was storming that day. So now the story is that two ghosts were racing their cars during a thunderstorm. And their driver did not mention any of this to the police when making the report.

Also, how pathetic do you have to be to get employees to post the only 5 star reviews you get?!!

American Freedom is the worst insurance company that I have ever dealt with. DO NOT USE this company. They will deny. They are rude, disrespectful and they will NOT pay your claim. I am going to start litigation with this company over this. I have been paying them for years and every time this is what they do. My son had a very serious accident and they denied his claim as well. They will stall and say it is under management review and then deny your claim!!! NEVER NEVER USE THIS INSURANCE COMPANY!!! I made a claim for hail damage in June of this year it s now September they keep making up stories on how it s being process this company is very unprofessional basically fraud. One time I paid my insurance bill n somehow they pay someone else bill with my credit card info this company is a fraud stay away please

I have had this insurance for 6 months and i have never dealt with a insurance company like american freedom by far they should not be in business!every month my installments due on the 15th, each month they send me a notice of cancellation 2 weeks prior to the due date with a lapse in coverage i get reinstated at no fault of my own.this does not look good on my part being reinstated each month when i make my payment a week before the due date! Bottom line do not do business with this company.....

I entered a 6 month vehicle insurance policy with them, and chose not to renew at the end of the policies life. I communicated to a representative on their behalf that I found a better deal elsewhere. American Freedom has charged my account, not cancelled auto-pay, renewed my policy while late fees accrue in my linked checking account (the deal during signup was it would be cheaper if I enrolled for automatic payments) I will change this review when I have my 'follow up' call with them in 4 days because the person 'in charge' of billing isn't there right now.

They ignored my calls and voicemails because they believe the proof I sent to them of my account being overdrawn, with transaction ID numbers, and the name AMERICAN FREEDOM withdrawing the money wasn t enough. They sent me a check with a random amount of $110, and the same spokesperson who must have been assigned to me since I started calling everyday told me it was my fault as they have no idea when I canceled the policy.
There is a supervisor called Jeff from billing who has a voicemail inbox, he never helped me. I never received a call back, and honestly? I wouldn t be surprised if they lose business-I m not the only customer who has had money grab problems.

They kept my car hostage for 2 months and still haven t got any answer yet. And it s not even my fault. Worst experience ever had.

If you are unfortunately in an accident and American Freedom is responsible for your claim, simply hire an attorney immediately. This is by far the most crooked company involved in the insurance business. If you have coverage from your own company, you should just use them and let them fight it out in court with these crooks.

Unfortunately I can't give them 0 stars.Worst insurance company I've dealt with. Took MONTHS to complete claim, was in final review for 7 weeks,vehicle was total loss, got paid less than 50% kbb value, vehicle was vandalized while in their possession, refused to pay. Avoid this company at all costs.

Very bad service, the people who attend are very despotic, they leave you on hold and then they hang up the call and I just see my policy with them I will no longer renew with American freedom very bad insurance I do not recommend it I have almost 4 months waiting for a response to my claim and nothing that they solve my accident was on July 19, 2020 and we are already January 18, 2021 and nothing and see the waiting time for them to answer you and sometimes it is more time there I put them a photo of a call

April of 2017 I was rear ended by a mini van, person driving is insured with American Freedom Insurance, I am still waiting for my car to be fixed. Insured states the paperwork required was completed and sent to AFI, I was required to complete the same paperwork which was done and returned. Took my car to their recommended body shop; they sent the required estimate and pictures of damage to AFI.

AFI is refusing to pay for the following reasons: They state they have no proof that the insured hit my car, I should have gotten a police report. Police in Indiana will not complete an accident report if the damage is below a specified dollar amount and there was no personal injury... both of which are the case with this accident.
I recommended the insured look for a different company to do business with, this company is a farce. After reading the other comments it doesn't matter if you are the insured making a claim or the person hit by the insured. AFI takes your money and doesn't pay their claims.
Not to mention these are the rudest bunch of people I've had had the displeasure to speak with; promise to call you back - you never hear from them.
Update 9/24/2017: I just received letter from AFI saying they are denying the claim because their insured has failed to provide AFI with a written statement with facts about the accident.
RIP OFF.

There insurer was 100% fault and only want to pay me 80% . It's been over a month trying to get them to even give me anything
I had to go all the way downtown to get a crash report that they claim was never uploaded from the police department. What a shameful insurance company . Now I need to get my insurance company and lawyers so I can get my car fixed . Mind everyone the person who hit me did not even have a license and some how they don't think it's her fault .
But let's see how it works in court

My parked car was hit by one of their insured in a parking lot. Not only was the car parked, there was nobody inside my car when it was hit. It is going on a month and they are still "reviewing" the claim. No empathy, no follow-up... nothing. I am wasting valuable time trying to get them to pay for what their insured did to my car. They have required me to submit mounds of paper work, of which I have complied, but NOTHING in return. Each time I call, I am told they are still reviewing and I am asked to call back. Upon speaking to a collision repair shop, I was told 'that is their tactic' stall...stall...stall in hopes of the the claim going away. It is a-shame and they are a sham. The Illinois Attorney General need to investigate this shady company.

This company is the worst shxx hole of them all. They keep giving you a run around when they know there at fault. Lie about receiving information on a claim. Anyone doing business with them is just another worthless human.

It is useless. I paid for that year and a half SR22 and they did not report to the secretary at all. And now I am losing days of work to fix this very bad problem I do not like
Having car insurance with them is a little worse than not having to pay when one is trusted that it is insured to me it happened to me but 7 years later they let me know at the state secretariat that again I should have another 3 years of SR22 because American Freedom did not report that I had already paid and when I went to claim Nothing else did not appear in the system, what a click!

Someone who can recommend a good lawyer in Illinois for almost 3 months since I was shocked by an American freedom insured and they still haven't solved anything like pe $ @ &; every day calling them and nothing that resolves my claim

On October 21 one of my cars got stolen. Police found it the next day crashed... since I was paying full cover I thought they would take care of me... oh nightmare it has been...

AF called my car a total loss but it was until November 16th that I got a written offer for my car, a total insult and an offence to us the hard working people that every month diligently pay our cars insurance... I told them I wouldn't accept their ridiculous offer and I reported them to the Illiniis Attorney General Fraud Bureau...

Today is December 2nd and I haven't got any better offer or a car replacement no matter what my car's value was....

Needless to say that I had to contact the police departments in order to get the appropriate reports and or releases...

This company is a rip off. I got key scratches on my car and reported it to the police and then the insurance company, they denied my claim because they say my second car is parked by my fiance house on the weekend, my second car had nothing to do with my car that got scratched up. I got hung up on by customer service. This company should be out of business. Reporting them to BBB.

I've always felt that the way a company treats its customers is a direct parallel to how it treats its employees. American Freedom treats their customers with the utmost respect and compassion and has always treated me like family. I highly recommend this company as an employer and auto insurance carrier.

This insurance will give you the run around when filing a claim. It s been 6 weeks now and still no answer from them... the adjuster is at lunch that s their only answer if your call gets answered other than that you re place on hold until you run out of patience. Do not give your well earned money to this insurance company. Trust me.

I have a claim with them as we speak. They were at fault and fixed my car but now they won t reimburse me for the rental car. They agreed to pay me $22/day for the rental car 3-5 business days after I submit my receipts. Every time I call no matter what time of day they say that the adjuster for my case is on lunch. And now they just hang up on me once I give them my claim number. Does anyone know what I can do to resolve this? I have never seen an insurance company handle business like this.

I have been 6 months with American Freedom Insurance Company. I m thankful that I have not been in a accident. So a letter came in my mail box to re-new my contract for another 6 months (I really like the price that they offer me). Thinking about it, I was looking for the company on the internet, and I just got impressive on how many people testify of a bad service this company offers. Around 95% of people gave 1 star .
I think I have made my decision already, find another insurance.

They claim their office hours are closed but it s 12:00 in Illinois. Scammers to the core. Keep reporting them.

Worthless company, their client hit my vehicle while I was parked in a driveway. I was denied for "improper parked location" absolutely unreasonable and pathetic. if someone is parked in their own driveway how is that improper.

This is a great company! I have been working here for 5 yrs and I love it. I worked in the customer service and I enjoyed talking and helping agencies out with any issue as well as inform them about coverages. Always very polite to all of our clients to assist them as best I could.
I work now in claims, and I enjoy working as a team. Always trying to help each other to resolve issues and get our insured and claimants vehicle fix as soon as possible.

I have been employed with American Freedom for 3 years and i can say, i have grown with the company. Very professional, friendly environment.

Their driver hit my car while it was parked. The insurance company investigated the accident and said they will not cover because the driver lied on their application for insurance. Even though the driver had insurance the day of the accident. The company has the right to end the policy because they lied on the application and cover neither car. Even though the driver was insurance the day of the accident they will not even cover my car. The application was perfectly fine when their driver was making their monthly payments, but they had an accident the insurance company wants to look closely at the application. They need to close this money stealing insurance company.

On hold for 47 minutes the first call before it just disconnected. I am on the second call now going in to minute 30. These people have no respect for anyone!

This company is an scam. Their claims process is a detailed system of looping the insured around in circles so that they never have to pay out the claim. I'm an agent for another carrier and have written my insured a replacement policy, but he's going on two months trying to get a total loss claim paid out. Their claims handling service is a joke. No matter how cheap a policy they offer you, there are other carriers who will better handle your claim. Save yourself the time and money and find a policy elsewhere.

After 4 months they are denying a hit and run claim, saying that it was reported late, it was reported 3 days after it happened.Asked to speak to a manager then was put on hold for 10 minutes then they hung up on me.

I would highly recommend this Insurance Company. American Freedom's claim personnel have a difficult and demanding job to do and they are top of the line! I can vouch that they know their business and do their best. Although they are very busy they call back when appropriate and give proper status of claims. Unlike some of the previous reviews, most customers have a positive experience in dealing with American Freedom and thousands of customers have been with them for years. The company also maintains clients after they have had a claim settlement.

I was involved in an accident on June 4th 2020. A customer of this 3rd rate insurance company rear ended me. She admitted fault as soon as she got out of her car. I filled out the claim form they wanted, mailed it back a month ago. I hadn't heard one word from them. So I called American Freedom and was told they need a statement from their client, and naturally she's not responding to them. So in the meantime my vehicle is not getting fixed. She's obviously ignoring them. Worst insurance company EVER!!!!!

Very professional environment. Adjusters assigned to claims do and try their best to help and assists their insureds as well as the claimants.The staff is nice and polite. The workers help one another in order to satisfy and complete claims and tasks in a timely and efficient matter.

It simply does not comply with what is written in the insurance policy they do not pay for the services to which we are supposedly entitled to at the time of the accident .. they are a real headache I give them a star and still it is a lot ....

In a nutshell. Daughter filed a claim Feb 2017, went through the process was approved got the check didn't realize I had to have both parties sign so it was sent back by the bank. Asked for a new check to be sent. Have been waiting since the date of this post, guess it got lost in the mail huh? HORRIBLE insurance co they are frauds and I'm filing against them with the BBB. Hopefully if enough of us do this we can file a lawsuit against them. Please file your complaint with the BBB first! 0 stars if they would let me...Don't through a broker for cheap insurance like Illinois Insurance Co., they don't care how bad the insurance co's are they are just trying to make money. If you do go through a broker please do research on the insurance provider prior to agreeing to insure with them because of cost. I have esurance and was rear ended, the other person had state farm, my car was fixed in a week, free rental and am settling medical and loss of wages now. Like another customer said, you get what you pay for.

Report them to the IDOI and the BBB! They re an extremely substandard insurance company, currently going through the process of trying to get my claim paid out because the person who backed into me was unfortunately insured by this joke of a company. They are refusing to answer my emails, my phone calls, and any sort of correspondence that I send. They should not be allowed to operate in the state of Illinois and are committing gross amounts of insurance fraud!

This system won't let me give them NO stars. The company is a rip off. They take people premium but don't want to pay claims when their client hit someone. The claims person by the name of Carolyn M got loud and hung up on me not once but twice when I asked if there is a manager over her that I can speak to because she was getting rude. I am the person that got hit, not you Carolyn, and you don't want to pay claim. I don't know if claim comes directly out of Carolyn paycheck, but she was acting like I was giving her a hard time. You want to keep hiding behind the fact your client is not being cooperative despite me sending in a copy of his ID, and insurance card and a police report. I guess you saying me having copy of ID and insurance from the client that hit me is not enough. That isn't enough evidence from your client admitting fault by giving me their information. Again, this company is all about taking money from their clients but not playing claims of the clients along with rude staff and poor customer services. I WOULDN'T recommend this company to anyone. They must prey on the client that are looking for a low rate.

Know your rights and just get a lawyer first thing. Terrible ! Their driver hit me in a parking lot. Admitted it and on the police report. They made me to to the only shop that works with in Nw Indiana which is in bad Gary Indiana. Saying they have 45 days to settle by law. I said you can pay now I am tired of driving a beat up car. I am not your client.

Refusing to share estimate, were trying to pay the body shop, wanted me to pay for the police report, want me to take $22 a day car rental reimbursement and then be reimbursed later. I don't have to do that. Two weeks now and no where. I told them they have to make me whole.

No body shops here will take them. All told me they don't try to pay ever and if do pay less then cost (even my buddy who runs a big shop fired them). Only one shop in whole Chicago area even will deal with them and that 1.5 star rating too. The only one in all of Nw Indiana. Buddy estimated a house job for $120k they offered $40k.

I gave them 5 days in writing to pay me or I am suing their client personally and told him / them he can lose his license. I text him that also since he is ducking my calls and the insurance company. His wife asked who this was and then 30 seconds later said he wasn't home. Mine is such a small claim too. I hear they just stall.

You don't need to fill out info they ask. Don't give your social, don't pay for their police report. don't let them take months, know your rights. They want to see your car they can have their person visit you. You sure don't have to use thier shop and have a right to be paid yourself not to the body shop. It's your right not to fix it and get paid or use your shop. They are trying for more information to get out of the claim. If your victim threaten to sue their insured personally within x days then do it. Please seek a lawyer ! You read the reviews and no better. They won't change.

HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE customer service!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We are a shop that has two of their insured cars waiting for repairs (one since November 2017); waiting to get supplements approved. Has been three weeks and it has just been lie after lies giving us the run around. We got yelled at by an "adjustor" then we call again to speak to a supervisor and they happen to tell us that , that one "adjustor" is the supervisor. There is no way to work with this company. Yet we are the ones receiving a bad reputation from the customers. If we could we wouldn't even give them one star.

This company is a joke.
#1 The policy holder is most to blame for allowing individuals that are NOT covered on the policy drive their vehicles. Also having the vehicle that was being driven laps on coverage.
#2 This company had the nerve to continue to act as if they were proceeding with the claim when in reality the whole thing was going to get dropped due to lack of coverage.
#3 After already being informed that estimates were already done by reputable body shops, they still force u to go to one of their body shops. Body shops that have extremely poor customer satisfaction reviews. One review reveals one body shop even smoking in a non smokers car and leaving burn marks on the seat.
So if u ever are involved in an accedent with someone that has this insurance company, go through your own for repairs.

This company is VERY unprofessional and shows NO EMPATHY to the people their insured has caused a loss too. Dealt w/ a "Brian" who said he was a supervisor and refused to give his superior's name/phone# so I could file a complaint. He was rude and made me feel like I rear ended HIM. ZERO STARS!!! This company and the staff are the absolute worst!!! My claim was submitted over a month ago. I called numerous times for staus and was told by several different ppl that the adjusted had approved the claim and that it was sent to a manager. I would get a call back 24-48hrs. That was over a week ago and still no call. I just called again for status and was told my claim was denied for failure to use caution and stroke their insurer. UNBELIEVABLE!! Their INSURER was in the Accident Investigation Lane and I was in the far LEFT lane getting OFF the HWY trying to turn LEFT when he crossed over 3 lanes and hit me on the right front panel. I called the police and the police came to the scene and the guy got a citation. Not to mention the guy called me numerous times and text me asking me to not file a claim and he would pay for the damages out of pocket. I have no idea how this company is still open with all the negative reviews it has.

ABSOLUTE GARBAGE!

I don have to say more i agree with all the bad coments because i went to the same procces so sad.

Unfortunately there is no 0 stars so I could give it. The person who hit me had this insurance. Even though in the court guy plead guilty(against the city). Insurance company only paid %90 of the claim. Well, they don't care U.S. Court's decisions. They think they are above the law! And good luck making it work.
Keep away from them!

The worst insurance I have had and the operator is very despotic when you want to make a claim they only see the way to steal

I have been working with this company for almost 2 years. We work as a team to be as helpful as we can to our customers. Everyone is so friendly and kind. Such a great work environment.

They have experienced hard working employees that care about their customers

Nothing about this insurance company is honest. I called a lawyer explaining my situation and why my claim was denied. The lawyer asked what insurance company it was and after I said it was American Freedom he literally said "Oh my God not those guys." He proceeded to tell me that AF denies every claim because they know that a lot of people will not follow through with a lawsuit and they can get away with not paying claims. They literally scam honest, hard working people.

DO NOT BE FOOLED BY THIS COMPANY
THEY ARE THIEVES The day you file a claim they ask you for many requirements so that in the end they tell you that it was your fault and your claim does not proceed

For many years I gave them my money until the day I file a claim because my vehicle was stolen a week later I recovered it had some damage
They asked me for many papers so that in the end they told me it was my fault that they stole it from me

Less than one star, if I could.... people do not attempt to save money with this company it will just cost you more in the end if you re involved in an accident. This insurance company needs to be shut down permanently. They do not look out for anyone but themselves. The body shops they refer to aware of how they scam their policy holders. It s so unfortunate. They take months to follow up with your claim and in the end YOU will pay more than the insurance company. The representatives are top of the line disrespectful and are the least amount of professional. Save your self the time & money.

Are you people even noticing all of the not one star reviews are written from people WHO WORK THERE? And even ADMIT they work there right off the bat. You wanna write a review about how they treat employees? Go to Glassdoor. This is for customers to warn others about this scam of an insurance company. If these people even are employees and not one guy making a bunch of fake accounts to hide the huge amount of one star reviews from The MANY people who got screwed over by this place.

Not even one star is deserved by this horrible company. DON'T DO BUSINESS WITH THEM AT ALL!!! Also hope that if you get hit that it isn't by someone covered by American freedom.
