I just had my first accident ever with my first car. I had no idea what to do so I called American Freedom for the first time, they were patient & courteous as they took all my information. The rep took their time to explain what happens next & answered my newbie questions. Im very busy so they actually took my email down and sent me all the information. American Freedom got me a great rate for my coupe. I'm happy.

I would suggest any claims against insured with th...

I would suggest any claims against insured with this company be processed by or through your own insurance. While you will pay a deductible, it should be refunded once they receive funds from American Freedom. AFI is not responsive, will lie that they will call. Give them a test call and listen to their voice message which states they are closed during hours they state they are working, normal hours that is. Then hit an extension such our agent, 322. It beeps and goes to voice mail. No message so you don't even know who you are leaving it for. It's a total scam agency. Leave it to your insurance to work it out. We've waited four weeks for an adjuster.

Absolutely avoid any and all interaction with this company. This business is 100% a scam. This company took 236 days to respond to a claim I filed, and their response was full of lies and misinformation. They absolutely will never do anything to help you, take your business elsewhere I can not stress enough to completely avoid this company.

This Insurance is as crooked as a thief. I was hit by one of their insured drivers who not only drove on the wrong side of the street but also didn't have a license when she was driving!!! They still want to say I was at fault!! You have got to be kidding me. I will be filing a claim against them in court. Anybody that has to deal with this company good luck.

How is this company in business. Worst insurance company I have ever dealt with. Horrible customer service. They just give you the run around to try and avoid paying any claims. Will be reporting them to the Illinois Department of Insurance and the Better Business Bureau.

I realize my car isn t worth very much being a 200...

I realize my car isn t worth very much being a 2005, but it s reliable and runs well. Their insurer hit me and they are trying to just give me $300 and send me on my way. This will not cover the labor and parts that it will take to get it to how it was BEFORE I was hit. I m not asking for much, I just want to be able to open my trunk?!
Pray you never get hit by one of their insurers.

NOTE: The better business bureau has NO authority over any business. The BBB acts as a mediator and as a place to read/leave reviews. Your complaints about this company need to be directed to the attorney general's office. This many complaints is ridiculous and i've never seen this before.

I purchased about 29 December 2015 for full coverage insurance on my Dodge Avenger 2014. On 1/1/16 I was involved in a car accident, within 24 hours of my accident I contacted my agent submitted my claim,providing the insurance company with all information requested to help pay off my car which was totaled in the accident. I have inquired with the company via phone several times to inquire about the status of pay out on my car only to be told they are working on it each time. Upon my last phone contact with the company, I was told that I had to contact my lawyer regarding the status of my car as they chose to no longer speak with me regarding the status of my car. Upon inquiry with my lawyer I was informed the original adjuster messed up the claim and my case had to be reassigned to another adjuster to start over.

It has been three months since I originally filed the claim. Within hours the company declared my car a total loss, I feel that to date, this is an unreasonable amount of time to settle this issue. It customary that insurance takes possession of the vehicle for inspection, this was done within hours but I have had to continue to make a monthly payment of 480.00 for a car I no longer own for the last four months.

This delay has made it difficult to provide for my family financially and physically .All I ask is that American Freedom rectify this situation by communicating with me or my lawyer at this point daily and settled expeditiously.

The customer service with this company is the worst, its a maze just to talk to someone, everyone is always unsure, I am often placed on hold and at the time of this writing I was told they are unable to speak with me.

I would like to recommend that no one does business with this company.

I am a Body Shop Manager that dealt with this company for repairs to a Claimants van. This company is a P.O.S. Never in 35 years in the auto business have I ran across such a abusive, rude, coercive company. They also forced one of my clients to SIGN the RELEASE FORM before they would send a check for the repairs. They don't tell you that the body shop will be unable to collect for ANY SUPPLEMENTS because the owner SIGNED the release. Their excuse was the owner didn't read the release!!!!!!!
There is so much more to say about this company. Rude adjusters, No call backs when leaving a message... so much more

What a joke. Hope you never get hit by one of their insured. This moron backed in to a piece of equipment in our parking lot. Then left the scene and did not leave a note. Luckily I was able to find the idiot. I repaired the equipment myself by welding it. I needed to use it that same day. I asked the these guys for $250 for my time and labor. Keep in mind that I had to locate the driver myself and did NOT file a police report... you know, trying to be a nice guy.

After 2 months, they offered me $140. What a slap in the face. It's not even about the money. It's the principle of the whole thing. They never came a looked at it and now want to beat me up of $110. Seriously.

I was not able to give them ZERO stars. I would if I could.

I was involved in a not at fault hit and run. This company took 2 months and seriously 2 months to approve my claim. In that time frame they kept asking me for information on my 12 year old daughter that is she an additional driver more than being concerned about approving my claim. I mean my kid was in grammar school at the time and clearly not even old enough to pump gas. It got to a ppoint where I asked the agent if I still have to pay for a insurance policy still for something I am not even driving and she told me. If you don't like it switch to another company. And you know what. I'm going to take her well professional advise. Thank you American Freedom. I'm going to take your advice. Well 3 months later my car is still in the shop waiting to get fix. Like they say you pay for what you get. For a few dollars more its worth it. Oh another thing. A week later I was rear ended. Long story short. The lady who hit me was admitted at fault by the driver and even State Farm says she was at fault. They cut me a check the same day and asked if I would like to get my bumper fix that day.. What American freedom wanted from me was all the information of everyone and wanted to raise my insurance even thou State farm took care of everything. Well the moral story is You pay for what you get. I regret switching.

Disappointing is understatement.
They took 2 months to finish the claim and they only gave $250 because the car was declared total loss. The car was hit on the rear bumper by one of their insured. I don't know how they stay in business.
Lets report this company because they are total fraud and ripping people off.

Worst insurance company out. They can not even explain why they do not pay out claims. You have to pay a deductible, then they say we are not paying for this or that and we will only pay this amount. Never heard of an insurance company doing this. Then taking 7 weeks to get this all done. STAY AWAY FROM THEM! If i could give -10 stars i would!!

So I've been insured with this company for 3yrs and they are by far the worst insurance company! I pay 200 a month for full coverage on both my vehicles. Recently I had an accident that involved a deer and turned in a claim for the damage! Not only did this company charge me my deductible which is understandable but they charged me another 500 betterment fee for the parts on my vehicle! I had to come out of my own pocket a 1000 dollars on repairs for a 1500 dollar repair!! Why I have full coverage and had to pay 500 dollar fee for parts is ridiculous! They said it's due to parts being worn out over time and by mileage but it's bullshit to me when my vehicle had no issues before the accident and they can charge me that fee!!! I highly recommend not using this insurance company as I am dropping them after this fiasco!!

Illinois Dept of Insurance has an awesome website that is easy to navigate - just google consumer complaint IL department of insurance for an easy link. if you can write a review here then you can file. If enough people file this company WILL get shut down - this company is connected to another company which was shut down for the same-type of illegally practices. FILE! AND DO IT SOON RATHER THAN LATER. They will give you a loop around, continuously. If your claim is taking more than two weeks then start filing with the Department of Insurance.

Scam company. We've been trying to get them to pay a claim for over 3 months since their driver rear ended my son's car.
They keep saying that they're waiting for their client to turn in paperwork. We have no choice but to complain to state of Illinois to get them shut down.
12/7/20 UPDATE: It took them over a year to get a payout, but we stuck with it and finally got a check. The only problem was that it was around $1,300 LESS than their own body shop's estimate to fix the car. Hang in there if they drag things out and don't give up. Eventually, you'll get a check, albeit a much lesser amount than it will cost to fix your car. These people are fargin' iceholes... true somina-batches. (Johnny Dangerously references).

You are just an idiot if you somehow chose this company as your insurance. If you are involved in an accident where the other party's insurance is American Freedom, I suggest to just pay your own deductible and get your car fixed and let your insurance company hopefully get your deductible back. Otherwise, you will be waiting for a very long time and will probably incur more expenses. Don't waste your time "going to the doctor" or saying you're "injured" because you will never get anything from them. Law firms don't even take cases anymore where the other party's insurance is Am.Fr. God forbid you actually are injured and have extensive medical expenses. Sooner or later, this company will be shut down and will be under investigation. Report them to your local politician as well.

Please my people don't make sure here they have super bad cerbice. One does not realize until you have an accident they excuse anything to not cover them I had to grab a lawyer and had full coverage and they did not want to cover my car even so abeses it is better to pay a little more but be sure that I face an accident They will respond ebitense a headache and the only excuse they made was because I had just changed the address of my home and I had not informed them and the address I had on file was from a business where I received my correspondence from years ago and it is mine and pay very unfair rent but I let them know to avoid a problem.

It was 100% the other drivers fault. A state trooper witness everything. The police report also demonstrate that. The car that caused that accident was insured under this company. This company refuses to pay what our vehicle is worth. They said we could get the rest of our money by parting out our vehicle. They offered us $300 for a Lexus SUV! They have tried in every way possible to get out of doing what is right. Plus they tried telling us to pay for the towing cost and then they could pay us back. All lies! Watch what you sign with them in a claims report too. Mark things out that you don t agree with & initial! Watch how they word things in the claim report. They need a claim report but you don t have to turn it in the way they have it worded! Any other insurance company would have had our situation taken care of in a respectful time. They are disrespectful. Unprofessional. They don t care about anyone besides collecting & keeping money. You can see that by all the reviews here. If you are thinking of getting insurance through this company I would think twice. They won t insure the other vehicle if it s your fault. Then you will end up in court for being sued for the money. Stay as far away from this company as possible. Go to an insurance company that will protect your best interest and others on the road.

Also, you can see if any reviews are 5 stars it s the company having their employees come and rate them. Even with that desperate attempt they only have 1.4 stars. Everyone else is complaining about how they have done them wrong. Never fixing vehicles & never being a loyal/honest insurance company. Watch out for your best interest & don t go with this fraud insurance company.

Customer service is what sells your company. So please, someone tell her that she could be a little better with her clients on the phone.

NO STARS!! BEWARE!!!!!! Unprofessional. Rude. Inconsiderate. Dishonest. That is what should be below their decal. Now that I am able to read other customer reviews I realize that I in fact was not discriminated against. They just naturally treat everybody horribly. I spoke with the supervisor for the Indiana Team, Brian Healy, after being so unsatisfied with my adjuster Rodger. Brian Healy is very manipulative and in fact made me out to be at fault when I was involved in a hit and run. It took 3 weeks just to get the claim approved because of all the hoops I had to jump through for these people.
When the claim was finally approved they sent my car to Classic Collison Center in Chicago, IL. I wouldn t recommend doing business there either. They too are ignorant as to what customer service truly is. After the collision center gave American Freedom the estimated cost for repairs I was told I had to pay over 400 dollars outside of my 500 dollar deductible due to a betterment clause in my policy. I have never heard of anything like that. If the part needing replacement on the vehicle is wearable they only pay the value of the car on the part????? Leaving you to pay the rest. NEWSFLASH at least 95 percent of parts on a vehicle are wearable!!
My next issue: This Company only offers rental reimbursement. This means you pay out of pocket and they reimburse you once your vehicle is complete. Here is the lovely part. They only cover rentals up to $30 a day for 30 days. So if the price exceeds 30 dollars you're on your own. If you need the rental for longer than thirty days, you're on your own. Not to mention they send your vehicle to places that don't offer loaner vehicles, so you have to shop around yourself. You would think they would at least be of that much assistance. But, no.
I called AFI multiple times to get in contact with someone about how the process with my car was coming along and express some concerns I had with the chosen collision center. Brian Healy and Rodger never returned my voicemails.
Did I mention that I still haven t gotten my vehicle back? Today is the first day I have spoken with Brian since the claim was approved. (Even though I reached out to him multiple times). And now Mr. Healy is stating that the collision center, after having my vehicle for two months, claims that there is engine damage and more work necessary. Of course that s a wearable part which means that I have to pay even more money. But first American Freedom requested that the collision center do a "tear down" of the vehicle to ensure that these damages were caused from the accident. So in so many other words they want to blame me so that they don't have to pay. I AM A POLICY HOLDER!!! YOU PEOPLE ARE SICK!!!
DO NOT PURCHASE THIS INSURANCE. DO NOT WASTE A PENNY ON THEM. EVERYBODY PUT IN A FORMAL COMPLAINT SO THAT THESE PEOPLE CAN BE SHUT DOWN. I am truly disgusted!!

THEY ARE BY FAR THE WORST INSURANCE COMAPNY I HAVE EVER DEALT WITH!! They will send you through loops and does everything in their power to find you at fault for something so they don't have to pay. TERRIBLE!!! I got into an accident on June 14th 2017. Today is July 20th 2017 and my car hasn't even started to be worked on because the insurance company is just now reviewing the paperwork... a MONTH LATER! Because the accident happened in another city, they made me show proof of my APARTMENT LEASE stating that I actually lived where the insurance was registered to or they would deny my claim. As if it s totally impossible be driving through a different city OTHER than where you live and get into an accident? They're charging me towing and storage fees when I released my car to them IMMEDIATELY after the accident so I wouldn't accrue these extra cost and they STILL charged me. On top of betterment fees. You constantly have to call them because they won t call you at all! Your car will just go un-repaired if you wait for them to even have enough decency to return a phone call. You literally have to stalk them! When I finally got through to inquire about these extra fees, the employee I spoke with told me "I'm not going to argue with you"! I then asked for her name, a managers name and number, and the company's website and she told me "you can google it" ! Completely unprofessional and DISRESPECTFUL! They need to shut this place down immediately !

HORRIBLE insurance we were with them for over 4 years paying Full Cover and as soon as we had an accident they canceled our insurance and did not pay the other vehicle s damage. It was a waste of time and money, they are a scam. We kept on asking to speak with the manager and they would hang up the phone or say they would return our call and never did. The customer service lady was yelling at my husband, was extremely rude and not helpful at all, hung up on us. I m very, very, very disappointed. No I do NOT recommended. They only sent us a notice in the mail And after canceling our insurance for a Christmas tree that flew off of our truck they kept on trying to CHARGE our bank account for a policy that had already been canceled and Even increased the price. The only thing they are good at is taking the money out of your account. Thanks for NOTHING American Freedom. Fake, poor quality, poor value, not professional, not responsive and scammers.

My agent gave us this company unknown to us that they are Fraud. I had an accident and submitted claim, they demanded for marriage certificate and after six weeks, they now told me that they will not pay cos of police report, meanwhile their staff told me police report was not mandatory.

I have been dealing with getting a claim closed with these people since July 8th and it is NOW August 18th and still nothing. This is the absolute WORSE insurance company to ever deal with. The unpleasant 2 individuals I would warn EVERYONE to avoid is Bill Moran and the supervisor Beth (who ironically reports to him)! Their customer service skills are PISS POOR and soon as I can get my claim completed I'll be sure to report them to BBB so no one will have to deal with this level of poor service EVER!

My advice is don't ask too many questions because they get confused & want to hang up on you. I guess that's what you get when you let incapable WOMEN do a real job! I was rear ended by one of their insured on June 19th 2020. I called them and filed a claim with them right away and they kept telling me for weeks that they cannot do anything to fix my car because their insured was not responding. During these multiple weeks, I called many times. Sometimes they would look up my case number and hang up, other times they would get angry and tell me to go through my own insurance. I got through to the manager once, every other time I was told that he was busy and would call me back. I never received a call from him, it is clear that they do not want to take responsibility when their insured is clearly at fault. After relentlessly calling them, they finally approved the claim to fix my car. Today is August 19th 2020 and my car is finally fixed. My 2016 Honda CRV was stolen and later recovered by the police. Police came knocking at my door during the early hours of August 11th, 2017, to inform me that they found my vehicle abandoned and totaled. They also informed me that during the past summer a handful of other cars had been stolen around my neighborhood. Within a few days the car was taken from a tow yard and into American Freedom's possession... but not before I visited the tow yard and took a lot of pictures (from ALL angles) of the car. After submitting all the initial required paperwork American kept thinking up of additional things needed to submit the claim (incl. phone interviews with people who had nothing to do with anything... example, my 70-year-old mother!). After 2 months of waiting I began calling into their office frequently and asking for an update. Each time the answer was the same ("It is under Management Review and there is no Manager available to speak to"). On November 27, 2017, I finally got through to a Manager ("Beth") after telling the claims rep I would be willing to wait on hold for several hours to speak to a Manager. Beth immediately informs me that the claim is denied. Why? "Because there is no evidence of forced entry." Two interesting things to note here: 109 days had passed since the filing of the claim. That is 3 months and 17 days. On the same day I demand to speak to a Manager the claim is miraculously deemed to be denied. This, to me, indicates that they purposely dragged this claim out for as long as possible and NEVER had any intention of paying out the claim. They were simply looking for any kind of legal loophole, ANYTHING, in which they could get away with a denial. However... get this... the pictures that I took of my car? Windows are broken on the car. One door is so smashed that it is barley recognizable as a door. So... how do you determine, exactly, that there is no evidence of forced entry when the car is missing windows and has scraped metal as a door? I read through the other reviews and am adding filing with the Illinois Department of Insurance to my to-do list with this company. However long it takes me, I will be fighting this... they picked the wrong person to falsely deny. Class-action lawsuit anyone? You'll be hearing from me if you left a review on here :) together we will get justice.

You have to be crazy to get insurance from this company! READ THE REVIEWS!! They never pay out and try to find any way possible to rip people off! Anyone with this insurance is basically asking to be screwed!

Don't walk, but RUN from this company!

After you file a claim they grind you down with an extremely slowww process, paperwork, and poor communication. They are nice at first but eventually begin to get more rude and aggressive if you question them.
They hope that you will just give up and forget about fighting for your claim.

My Tip: Make sure you use email as much as possible to communicate with them. This gives you a paper trail showing the dates of communication and responses. They try to get you to call because they have more deniability in verbal communication.

Get a consumer protection lawyer and brace for battle.

Once again, don't be ignorant. Read the reviews! This is company screws every person it encounters.

I filed a claim a month and a half ago through them for an accident that was not my fault. They never answer my phone calls, honestly feels like they blocked it. I filled out all the paper they asked for even after requesting it to be emailed to me because they never sent it though mail. Just wastes my time, I ve left multiple voicemails and I ve never had a call returned. They are the worst insurance experience I ve ever had.

DO NOT GET THIS INSURANCE!!!!!! I hit a deer and was called a liar because the cop who made my report forgot to put down that the deer was dead on scene. Not only that but they took 2 months to finally want to fix my car. canceled them because they were trying to ask for my deductible which was way higher than what the damage was worth plus 100$ extra because the bumper had a crack on it already. This company is just money hungry.

Breanna Lange, I went on your Facebook and saw that you started working at American Freedom just in October and now you post a 5 start review. The company is THAT bad, that they have their own employees write reviews. If you're gonna write one, use a fake name sweetie. Oh can't forget Eric Krauser. Also an employee. This insurance company needs serious help.

A bunch of Hispanic people being exploited by this racist company. Especially Richard or Bill M, I introduced myself by my name Jesus,Racist supervisor Bill M calls me Jose, I correct him and then I tell him I'm sorry all us Hispanics look the same,he laughs and doesn't apologize or even let me know it's not like that,he continues to laugh. They are charging me an extra 800 dollars because I didn't disclose 3 bumps with other cars that was told to insure on the spot insurance company as well as recorded with them because the people I bumped tried to scam but I took picture and let insure on the spot know,they at American freedom tell me they didn't inform them but if you look up my name they show up,so when insure on the spot sold me to American freedom how am I supposed to know who needs any info when you are sold to a third party company like American freedom. All ethnic groups that read this should really consider dealing with an Insurance company that doesn't cover the way the say when they talk to you. I'm filing a complaint to the better business bureau. If we all stand up they will investigate this racist company....Everyone has to report to better business bureau let's expose the exploitation of our communities....... Richard M is a racist!!!!!!

I caught them! On a recorded line they admitted to what they really do to scam people I ve been in touch with the insurance commissioner for the state of Illinois and they forewarned me about this company.No consumer should ever do business with this company and any business that is looking to get paid should contact the special investigator at the state of Illinois insurance commission. Don t let them get away with trying to scam people and all the while using the name American Freedom...That s what pisses me off more than anything

Evil company, there is a reason they are 1 star reviews. This company does more work attempting to deny claims and postponing claims than they they do actually working trying to help you... Pure evil people run this place, huge money grab system they have going on here.

I've had this insurance for a few years now. Unfortunately 3 months ago I had to file my first claim with them. Roger was in charge of handling my claim and did a fantastic job. After reading all the bad reviews about this company I was really on edge about my claim being denied but for the most part everything turned out fine. The only issue was every time we got a "final step" completed another issue would arise before they could make the payment for my total loss. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt since my case happened 1-2 weeks before everything was shut down due to covid. Other than that I'm very pleased with the way Roger was in communication with me and multiple companies. He went above and beyond to keep me informed with issues coming from other companies also giving guidance on how to handle them.

I believe a lot of issues other people are having are due to American Freedom not being their primary insurance company so everything isn't going to be covered how they expect.

1 star is the least I could give I wouldn t recommend to my worst enemy. This is the worst company in the world my mother was involved in a hit and run in July on a Sunday the company was close. It took this company over 3months to say it was a total lose now it s October going into November and they have yet to pay out the claim do not do business with them the absolute worst they find all type of excuses why they haven t made the payment.
