Granite State Management made paying off part of my loan so much easier! I now feel more in control of paying off my loans and I think these people loaned ME some more confidence. :-D I would recommend them! They make paying off loans seem much less daunting than it sounds!!! :-D

They do what you expect, give a loan, and you do what you're supposed to: pay it. I had an issue where it billed a different date than my bank, and the woman there spent a half hour on the phone with me (very nice the whole time) explaining why that happens. Turns out, it's a way to avoid interest payments by dating back to before the interest was applied, so the interest is on a lower amount! They effectively lose money, but you pay less, to hats off to them for that. Customer service was really solid and I understand everything better now. I'm very happy with them, and the people who have issues with them seem to be the ones who miss payments... that's not really GSMR's fault, is it?
They sent me monthly statements which indicated my balance. Somehow when I log in online my balance has increased by $3,000. When I called they weren t sure what had happened so I was put on hold so the rep could talk to her manager. When she came back to me she informed me statements don t show the full picture of your balance, I know it s frustrating Don t understand the purpose thereof to not show the full amount I owe as any other loan service would.
Absolutely horrendous experience. Waited forever everytime I called, issues with automatic payments, and a payment sucessful, can be false and they ll let you know via mail.
I have had a great experience with this loan service. They service my federal loans; I have never had a problem. Some of the negative reviews on here are nothing more than a gross incompetence of the borrower.
Never gave me any information on the status of my loan. I didn't even know who this loan was from. Complete horrible company do not do any business with them. Apparently they do this a lot.
Had some issues when first rolled-in from Direct Loans and one other time with a fax gone missing, but GSM&R executives came through both times when I flagged the issue up the chain. Most importantly, they figured out how to make things right and were earnest and timely in those efforts. In fact, one executive even followed-up over the next couple of years to make sure all was well. Do your due diligence (follow-up on anything sent or edited on the website before the deadline, and go above those who may not be fully in the know if need be) and they do theirs like clockwork, which is really important compared to the utter horror stories of FedLoan customers. GSM&R's customer service is friendly and helpful, and above all, honest. They don't have an obnoxious voicemail wall between you and them (their voicemail gets to the point and gets you to a person fast if that's what you need), and their website allows you to do almost everything you need with instant turnaround, but I also learned to check/double-check everything by phone and paper, just in case. Thanks, GSM&R - believe it or not, I'll miss you! Thanks for YEARS and YEARS of overall great service. NOTE: GSM&R - maybe you should proactively reach out to those folks here with 1-star concerns and make things right, like you did when I ran into issues? Why wait for them to send a letter to the CEO...?
This company is a complete con I am still in school full time and they are demanding payments that are not due yet (they are threatening mine and my family's credit ratings). I have a parent plus loan services with them to cover my tuition. I go to a pretty large school (about 12,000) students and the issues I have had with this company baffle some of the individuals who have been working at the registrar here for 20+ years. If you can help it borrow from somewhere else. Their phone calls are so ridiculously out of the blue and fruitless, I feel like I am talking to a fake company. I am trying to apply to medical school and the added stress of these issues is absolutely ridiculous. The 5 star reviews on google are undoubtedly fake. If I were you, I would not borrow 5 bucks for lunch from this company.
Refuse to send me original documentation. Refuse to email me documents. Had my financial advisor call with me on 07NOV yet they said request was only done on the 25th through email which is incorrect and have yet to mail out anything to me as promised for many weeks. They state they can t email the information and that i need to use another web browser. No help. Very sketchy.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS - This company does not deserve to be in business. Awful people. You'd be better off not going to college than to take a loan from this filthy organization. THIS COMPANY WILL RUIN YOUR LIFE. They will do everything they can to keep you from paying off your loan including misapplying payments, stalling payments, relentless calls, texts, letters and emails and sharing personal information. GSMR will OUTRIGHT LIE TO YOU and say anything to keep you from making effective payments and keep interest building. I hope they all burn.
The school added a loan I didn't need for my first year of college now im 10,000 in debt but I keep getting locked out because my password always acts funny. so then I have to call and all that other stuff. most people I speak with are really nice and helpful but I called like a couple days ago for my new password of course and she was so rude not sure what her problem was .but I currently have an issue with them charging me late fees when I'm still enrolled in school and already have been paying on them this is getting annoying
I would have to agree with having a similar issue. Many times I would have a "successful" online payment along with an email with the payment # and then when I would go to pay the next month I would find out the payment didn't go through and they did not notify me!
DO NOT GET YOUR STUDENT LOAN FROM THIS COMPANY. What they do is take each individual term (or loan) that you took at school and they report it as a separate loan account, even though you only have 1 payment and 1 account. In other words, I had 5 terms of college and 1 payment to this company, but they reported it as 5 loans even though again I only had 1 bill and 1 account number.
Why does this matter? Well as most people in life you will have some financial problems, which I did....one time in 2013. This company made it look on my credit bureau as I was late on 5 payments instead of one, which by the way just cost me a mortgage ....FIVE YEARS LATER!!
So if you have taken multiple student loans at college (yes I mean the same college) DO NOT WORK WITH THIS COMPANY.........
GSM&R has been great. Their customer service reps have always been kind, patient, helpful and informative. They've always helped me find the lowest repayment plan possible. My experience with them has made student loan repayment much less stressful than before I consolidated with them.

This company purchased my student loans from Direct Loans. In November 2017 GSM&R did not send me written notification that it was time to recertify my loan, and then reported my credit report with a "90 day late" which dropped my credit score 100 points. Although it was CLEARLY not an issues of my payment being late, because at the time I had a $0 income based payment. It was simply that there was a communication error notifying me that it was time to recertify the account. This company does not care about their students, and take advantage of the very customers that they are making $ off.
Horrible experience, wish I could transfer my loan. Customer service constantly gives you the run around. Will confirm they have the needed documents, make you wait three weeks, and then on a weekend or holiday when they aren't available, will e-mail you a notice going "We need this document you already sent us and confirmed we had" and then the whole process starts over again. At one point miscalculated my loan payment amount, drops an e-mail four months later in the middle of Thanksgiving dinner telling me they made a mistake and need to triple it with less than a month to try and rearrange finances to deal with the extra several hundred dollars a month. They say to leave a voicemail in everything they send out but their system doesn't give you that option. It once took four and a half months to get them to accept my spouse's federal loan information despite using the system they kept telling us to use, only after two months to say "oh, that system hasn't worked in months" and then to keep losing the e-mailed and the uploaded versions of the required information. This kind of service is what makes people go postal on an office. They clearly do not care at all about their customers, even the ones who pay up front, on time, and extra. It really does feel like they're trying to force people into default on their loans because of how difficult they make it to give them the required information without them repeatedly losing it.
They are shady with payments and will not process the full amount within an appropriate amount of time on purpose so that you obtain more interest so that they can continue to keep you in debt. Shady and deceptive tactics.
Gotta love waiting on the website to process an auto-payment days after I scheduled it only to have my credit score drop because of a "missed payment" on their infrastructure. Wish I could transfer my student loan to another site because this one is absolute garbage.
I have tens of thousands of dollars in fraudulent loans from GSM&R. I am currently trying to dispute these creditors (con artists) through Equifax and Transunion.
This company is terrible. My son has a loan with them and the payments are not due yet because he is still in school full-time. We have sent in the necessary documentation for deferment. They confirmed they received the documents (apparently it takes 2-3 to process standard paperwork) and yet they continue to send late billing notices to him.
Your typical loan service but every time I have needed to call their customer assistance has been very nice and knowledgeable. I never stressed out with them.
The absolute worst organization I have ever worked with. They are unorganized, lack transparency, and overall do a terrible job working with their borrowers. Because of them not being able to clearly communicate my loan status I lost several credit points. DO NOT WORK WITH THESE PEOPLE if you have a choice.
Even though I am still in school, they already are calling in payments. I didn't pay because I'm STILL IN SCHOOL and I called them to explain that, but they reported it and made my credit score drop.
Scammers. For years they been having fraudulent info on my credit. Claiming I had an account with them. Never had an account. Failed to show written proof of me ever having an account with them. Or any payment agreements. And refused to take it off. Next step lawsuit.
If your an adult and make payments on time then this company is great. Speaking of being an adult, the company sent me an email saying I had an important message to read in Thier website. Turns out my payments were due even though I was still half time student, due to a transfer between schools. Mix up was solved with one phone call. Borrowing tens of thousands of dollars is not a joke and something you have to keep an eye on, not blame others for when you miss payments or are not up to date on the status of your loan.
They continued to charge me interest while processing my final pay off payment, leaving me with an 11 cent balance because they wouldn't let me pay more than was due that day, but took 3 days to process the payment. Talk about screwing people for their last red cent.
This a fake student loan provider. I advise anybody to go talk to the school they have loans with to ask for the real loaner. Every person that gave a 5 star review works for this fraudulent company. Complete scam and I warned you
This company makes zero effort to help a person pay off their loaners. I ve called 3 times to ask them to please re-calculate (re-disclose) my new principle balance so I am paying less interest and every time I call they give me the runaround for why it hasn t happened. Also, I ve asked to speak the a supervisor a handful of times and been denied because they are busy. Stay away from this loan management company if you can. They are truly operating under the devil.

Pulled funds from my account late DAYS after I submitted payment, by the time their attempted to pull funds the specified checking account already had less than sufficient funds due to other transactions. Do they expect me to keep funds ready for them 24/7 days after I transferred funds?? This caused my bank to pin me with not just one but TWO NSFs (Non sufficient fees). Because the second time they attempted (WITHOUT my permission or notifying me there wasn't enough funds), there was still insufficient funds.
Rookie third tier loan servicer, pay your interest to someone else that actually treats you like a customer.
Trash organization with terrible anti-American policies. These employees hates education and support terrorism due to their money grabbing nature. The automatic debt function is awfull, website confusing, and support features non existent.
I have been trying for a full week to contact the customer service department. I have emailed two separate departments, and called two numbers. I have never heard back from the emails. And when I called the other day, the offices were closed due to weather. Called today, and have been waiting close to two hours so far for a call back. I would have liked this issue to have been worked out last week, and I will be extremely upset if it is not sorted out today.
Complete scum bags. Loans for students to get an education and they raise your interest rate every month even if you pay on time. They don't care about giving you money for school and education. They are a bank looking to make money and screw you on interest. Avoid this company. Awful customer service and complete thieves.
I've never have gotten a call back although I've left several messages. Not super helpful. When I did reach someone, I wanted to pay off my full student loan. Went a month thinking all was well until I decided to check my account just for grins. I then found that I still have a balance.... I don't understand why I called someone to help me make sure that my whole total was paid off just to find that it wasn't a month later. Also annoying that they don't have an email and the only times they are available to call is whe I am in class or working.
I have called this organization three times with no resolution. This company has miss-applied and lost payments. I am still in school and pay every month. Two months they did not credit my loan and with further investigation I saw that they were applying previous loan payments to the date at the start of the semester-not the date of the actual payment. This has cost my hundreds of dollars in additional interest which they are not willing to correct or admit that they made a mistake. Sadly I cannot go through a different organization for my student loans. But if you are in the market looking-go elsewhere! I cannot stress that enough.
4.4.18 Update-Finally spoke with a representative who stated "We simply follow Department of Education Policy and we cannot change that" Well you (Granite State Management) can be more responsive, truthful and have just a little integrity.
Again, I cannot stress this enough. GO ELSEWHERE for your loans! Ask your financial aid department who they use. If I had known that the school I am attending only uses this organization, I would have went elsewhere.
Stay far away from this organization. I made payments based on my statements in 2016 which I was told was the payoff amount. 4 years later - I get a call saying that I still owe, and that the amounts I paid in 2016 just extended my next payments out 4 years and obviously interest was accumulating in the meantime. They provide a loan, break it down, and make it impossible to track. I am shocked that they are allowed to get away with their business practices and currently working with a lawyer to expose them. Go elsewhere.

I have dealt with Granite State Management & Resources for all my school loans and have had nothing but positive experiences. The staff is professional, friendly, helpful and very resourceful.
Horrific experience, this company improperly finances me, costing me my degree, sent a loan to collections without a reason, and now falsely reported late payments on my credit report costing me a mortgage even though theyre paid off! Finance anywhere else, this company is horrible, unfair, and completely careless.
:( If it were possible to assign a lower status, I Hapless organization with no answers other than 'we need to research this'. An hour on the phone (most of it on hold) yielded little in the way of results. Many other options (SoFi, etc.). exist. :(
Finally paid off my loans, but realized i overpaid. They never send me back the check for the overpaid amount. I had problems with this company for over 15 years. They apply your payments wrong and try to tack on more interest. I had to contact the education ombudsman and department of education multiple times because I didn't want my credit ruined due to their negligence.
This is the worst company I have ever dealt with. They told me I qualified for deferment and sent me the necessary paperwork. I both mailed back the paperwork and as instructed by Bethany from their resource department I have emailed copies of paperwork to them over the course of two MONTHS I keep resending and hearing nothing yet they continue sending me Late payment notices and ruining my credit score when I qualify for deferment and provided the necessary paperwork! I gave Bethany the exact number of what I make monthly over the phone and she said I qualify and now they refuse to take my paperwork and do anything with it! Do not use them please! Look at the reviews steer clear!

Very helpful staff. All you have to do is call if you have problems and cant make payment they have options to help you. They are friendly and knowledgeable.
When I called the customer resource number I spoke to Laura, she walked me through how to get my payment options up and had a very kind and pleasant spirit when offering information about how I can succeed in maying payments. I recommend calling and given Granite State the benefit of the doubt. There are many negative reviews that do not justify the service and skills of their team members. Owing money is scary, having interest rates are alarming, but when you owe money you should not criticizes the people trying to help you with your payments. As this was my first experience I all around appreciated the help and support.
My suggestion; loans are a tool to aid you in success, not to carry you forever. Make payments as soon as you can and earlier than they are due, it will halt your anxiety and offer you better resources to being debt free in the future. Your debt is not the customer service representatives fault, treat them with courtesy and respect and you will also receive respect.
Never use this company for anything. Never use them youve been warned. Terrible customer service and terrible business on their end. They will report you late even when payments are paid on time because system is faulty. Will be filing a lawsuit against these theifs.
Absolutely ZERO integrity! They did not properly notify me of my loans, no calls, no letters, then they say im delinquent. How am I delinquent on loans I don't even know about?!? These people are trash!
This is a terrible company do NOT work with them. They sent a letter they had no record of sending and asked me to take a photo and email it back to them and are still not standing by what they sent out. Every time you talk to someone you get a different answer and new problems. Clueless and horrible company. Stay away!!!
I have relied on Granite State for years to keep me on track with affordable payments on my massive student loan debt. Any confusion I experience on the website is always quickly cleared up by a phone call to their friendly, helpful staff.
