Genz-Ryan Reviews

My calls have always been answered timely, with appts made within a reasonable amount of time as well. Work done is quality and reasonably priced.

This is my first experience with Genz-Ryan. A service appointment was available 2 days out. The technician arrived on time and was professional about the job. Also, he had on a COVID-19 mask, gloves, etc.

My air conditioner was low on refrigerant. The tech found a leak in the evaporator coil, fixable by adding Easyseal Ultimate sealant and about 3.5 lbs of R22 refrigerant to the system. After finding the leak, he verbally quoted me ~$1000 for the above fix. I thought that was excessive, but I wanted it fixed without having to wait any more days.

I was asked to pay in advance (first red flag) and the tech went ahead and completed the job.

So after he left I did some research to satisfy my curiosity regarding the cost.

As of today (as I am writing this), a 10-pound cylinder of R22 is available for ~$160 online. The average cost of Easyseal Ultimate is ~$90.

So the total material cost of refrigerant and sealant is $250 (and still have 6.5 lbs of refrigerant leftover). I understand that the pricing of discontinued R22 can fluctuate, but if you are in the business of refrigeration, you should be getting better prices than what an end-user can easily get online.

But none of that seemed to apply. Genz-Ryan charged me ~$1000.

And then the invoice they sent me after-the-fact is not itemized. It merely says, "Discontinued Refrigeration System Calibration With Sealant & Leak Detection" and the single full amount (another red flag that shows a lack of transparency).

I won't be calling Genz-Ryan again or recommending them to anyone. You shouldn't either unless you want to be ripped off.

Also, don't just go by the reviews on Google. Check out their reviews on Yelp as well and you might get a clearer picture.

Joel came out to help with a water softener problem. He was very knowledgeable and helpful explaining how it all worked and what can be done to fix the problem. He was respectful and did a great job in my home.

Max did a great job working on our townhome. He treated our place just like it was own. During the installation of everything he made time to explain what he was doing and even just talk. At the end of the day he walked us through and made sure everything was up to our standards. Great job Max!

Billy was very courteous, helpful and knowledgeable. He did a thorough inspection and gave us a spectrum of options to discuss and choose from. We got same day service and put a good plan in place to fix our issue for good. Thank you!

Mike Busher came out to our home to give us a quote on a new furnace. He was very knowledgeable and helpful when it came to the many different options we had to choose from. I did not feel pressured to choose a specific option and Mike answered any questions I had. Also, Genz-Ryan was able to come out the same day and get the new furnace and system installed! The crew installing was very polite and helpful as well. Overall, it was a great experience working with Genz-Ryan and I would recommend them to anyone. Thanks!

Zac was the technician assigned by Genz-Ryan to do our annual inspection of the air conditioner and the furnace. I could not have been happier. He was on time, polite and did not leave a mess.

Although I ended up getting repairs from my original installer, which I didn t choose because I recently bought this house, Dan White from Genz-Ryan was knowledgeable, informative, and respectful.
I wish I would have went with Genz- Ryan for my original install, and I wouldn t be dealing with the added headaches that I have now.
They get five stars from me, and make sure that you go with them for your next heating, AC, or plumbing issue moving forward.

Shea replaced our water heater and water softener. He was very professional and courteous. He was very knowledgeable about the items replaced which he shared. He wore booties over his shoes and always had his mask on. We will definitely call Genz Ryan for any plumbing or heating problem.

Tyler or the technician was very knowledgeable and efficient. When we gave them a call early in the morning after the coldest night of the season so far, even though they were completely booked for the day they guaranteed that someone would definitely be out to assist us sometime that day since we had no heat. I would highly recommend these people to all my family and friends and whoever needs a furnace tech.

This company price gouged us right before the executive order. Do NOT do business with this company. They stole money from us in a time of crisis. The manager was called, he was rude and uncaring. Please find a company that wont steal from you, please.

The text notification with name and picture of technician prior to arrival is wonderful! Both technicians were professional, effective, efficient and respectful of my home.

Dalton did a fantastic job with our furnace!!! He answered all of my question and it was simply a great experience. He told me about all of the services offered by Genz-Ryan but didn t try and sell me anything. He gave me suggestions and provided all of the options available. Dave B from Genz-Ryan Plumbing & Heating came to our home to flush our water heater. He did an excellent job explaining what he was doing and why and well as how to prevent issues in the future. He cleaned up his mess when he was done. I would definitely have him and Genz-Ryan do work for me again.

Karim Bardai came to do my yearly furnace and AC check-up and I couldn t be more pleased. He explained everything that he did, bonded with my cat and dog, convinced me to upgrade my plan with Genz-Ryan and made me realize I made a great choice in trusting this company. Genz-Ryan's Technician DAVE BROWN saved a Damsel in Distress!!!
My 10 year old Water heater broke, I was searching for 5 days trying to find someone who would help me. DAVE BROWN immediately made me feel at ease, he explained everything and answered every single question I asked him, with patience. Earlier in the day BEFORE calling Genz-Ryan I asked another Technician to leave my house and he said he couldn't do the job, and no water heater would fit, and he would have to redo my furnace duck work and move my water softener. NONE OF THESE THINGS WERE NECESSARY with Genz-Ryan. DAVE BROWN is a blessing to Genz-Ryan. I will absolutely use this Company again and will tell everyone about the wonderful service I received. Also, I will be more than relieved to be able to take a shower!

Genz-Ryan came to my house yesterday for service work. I called to have the gas line fixed that they installed wrong. There tech comes out and tells me he can only give me advise on how to fix the gas line my self. Now I am still stuck with a gas line in my basement that hangs below the joist. So now I will call a different company and be forced to pay for a service twice that they will not stand behind.

For the plumbing portion of the job. They have a tech named John Hertzog. Last time he came to my house he rigged a bunch of plumbing because he was to lazy to do it the correct way. I talked with the manager at genz and asked for him to never come back to my house. Guess who shows up. John. He has a poor attitude wouldn t do any of the work requested and was very rude to the point I had to ask him to leave my home. I would never use this company is they were the last plumbing company on earth.

Did a super job cleaning our air ducts and dryer vent! Jeff was friendly and helpful. Will use them again next time.

Matt M did a great job. He went above an beyond the maintenance request to make sure all my Genz- Ryan mechanical were installed and working properly . He actually found another issue and fixed it for me. We discussed all of my mechanical and gave me insight on products and preventative maintenance. If I need to request service from Genz-Ryan, I will be requesting Matt. Thanks again!

Matt did a great job with my new water heater. He never tried to push or over sell me. On the day of the installation he was on time and went out of his way to be careful and not damage anything. I don't usually respond to surveys but I will make an exception for the team (Shaun & Bill) from Genz Ryan. They were friendly, professional and skilled. They explained what they would do before they started the work and through to completion. After they were finished they gave a comprehensive review of all of the work they had done. They worked tirelessly two different days until 7 PM to complete the job. Great guys and great workmanship.

Andrew was very professional and helped us clearly understand our situation. The cost was far more than anticipated but that is hard to judge when you really can t compare. Our lights are back and we feel safe. That is good!

The technicians are very knowledgeable and professional. I have had incredible service anytime that I have needed it.

Called Genz-Ryan because I was hearing a "humming" noise in the room where the furnace is located. They were able to come out the next day and found out it was coming from our humidifier. They fixed it (apparently wiring was not quite right) and all is well.

Everyone from the person that answers the phone to the technicians have been the best. I LOVE THOSE GUYS!!!

The office communicated with me so I knew when a technician would arrive. They even send a photo with their name and some information about the technician. Tyler was on-time, was knowledgeable and polite. He went through multiple options for me to fix the problem. The fix was quick and I had heat again. I would recommend Genz-Ryan.

We've used Genz-Ryan on two separate occasions and are extremely satisfied with their service. The customer service is very professional from the time you talk to someone on the phone to the time the technician leaves. Jeff, our most recent technician, was knowledgable and friendly. Jeff performed a thorough inspection of our A/C system and after the issue was diagnosed he presented several options while helping us weigh the pros and cons of each. After hearing what we were looking to accomplish, he created a custom solution to meet our needs and budget. It's usually unfortunate when you need to call for service but we breath easy knowing Genz-Ryan is there when needed. Highly recommend.

Scheduled an A/C tune-up. Was told I needed $1800+ in repairs. I decided to get a second opinion and am glad I did! A/C is running exactly as it should. I will NEVER use Genz Ryan again.

They had an installer out sick but this team picked up the extra work to install our new AC unit. It meant the team didn t leave until almost 7 pm on a Friday. We had AC again and really appreciated it.

We had an emergency plumbing need and Genz-ryan was able to get a plumber to us fairly quickly. And Zach the plumber, was so fast!! The city had to come to turn off the water and when they finally arrived, Zach had the valve changed within 10 minutes. And he could not have been more personable! We will call them again the next time we need service.

Pete was knowledgeable and professional. He provided a number of options to address my situation and concerns. I am confident that my decision to replace my furnace and air conditioner is the right one.

The service technician that was dispatched to my home on 2-21 was Jeff Piquette. He was extremely professional and his service on that one occasion was enough for me to recommend Genz-Ryan to anyone. He answered all of my questions and gave me some tips that will improve the performance of our situation going forward. He is a great asset to the Genz-Ryan organization. I will be requesting his service on any future service call. Extremely satisfied.

Follow up to take care of things the inspector didn't like. Two smoke alarms and insulate the liquid line from the compressor to the house. Done quick and fast.
Should have been done on the original install.

Andrew Schreiner did a quality job on the electrical work and took the time not only to do great work, but take the time to explain what he was doing, make reccomendations that were transparent and honest, and give insights and tips for the future. Highly recommend!

We had Zac come out today to check out the A/C before the next heat wave. Prompt, personable, and professional. He did talk me into a little preventative maintenance for the A/C unit. However I m pleased and reassured it will prolong the life of it.

The ultimate upsell! I called for a quote on repairs to my exhaust piping for my heater and Billy was able to give me a few options ranging from a quick fix to fill replacement. Mind you, there was/is absolutely nothing wrong with the heat in our house but, by the end of the presentation/conversation our home will be getting a new furnace at a premium price. The entire process was very quick and easy. It s almost like they really wanted to make it as easy as possible for me to do business with them. This convenience probably kept me from looking for other competitive bids. I have no idea if the price is fair or competitive, but I m trusting the company and Billy to be honest and fair. I will follow up with another post after the service is done as I sure there will be more to offer others who are skeptical or concerned about getting this type of work/service done.

Follow-up to previous post... The crew came out and installed an entire HVAC system in one day. Nothing like getting this done right before a major holiday, but I must say all went well. The crew was courteous and professional. It took some time to get an invoice, and even after receiving the invoice the charges and pricing seem very cookie cutter and not itemized. It was priced exactly the way it was quoted. The only other concern was the timing for the permits which felt like it was a long time, but I am not as familiar with the process and they were eventually done within 60 days. Happy with the new system and will be even happier once it is paid off.

I had them give me an air conditioner tuneup. The technician barely looked at it and then told me I needed $1800 in repairs. I got another company to give me a second opinion and they said my air conditioner is in great condition and just needed a tuneup. It s worked perfectly since. When I complained to Genz-Ryan they blew me off. The Genz-Ryan technician either didn t know what he was doing or lied to me.

Had two technicians come out in the same day to evaluate my electrical and my heating and air conditioning. Both quoted me obnoxious amounts of money to fix issues that would not cost a third of that to have someone independent come out. I gave them a chance after they ripped me off for a water heater but I am done with them now.

We have used Genz-Ryan for our HVAC needs since we bought our home in 2004 (and they were the HVAC company our builder used, too). We have had great experiences. We have the very reasonably priced "Silver Plan" and receive one free A/C and one free furnace tune-up each year with the plan--less expensive than tune-ups you can buy from a deal site.

The tech, Noah,was absolutely WONDERFUL! He was knowledgeable, friendly, incredibly thorough, respectful, and arrived when he said he would. He even answered additional questions I had about our water heater...with more detail than plumbers we've paid. His communication via texts and a phone call with ETA were helpful. Noah has done tune-ups and annual furnace and A/C checks here before and he is my favorite (we've had several good ones, though)! I trust that when he comes to look at our systems, he will check them as if he's checking the ones at his own home. That's a rarity these days...so we appreciate it. Thanks, Noah!

Service has been fantastic since the initial call to request service. We actually scheduled a furnace tuneup so we had no immediate problems or issues with the furnace. Genz-Ryan has kept communication lines open with calls & texts through the entire process from request to service tech arriving. Our service Tech was Tyler. He was absolutely prompt, prepared, courteous, knowledgeable, and professional in his work and in his analysis talk with us after the service was completed. A great experience, a happy Genz-Ryan customer!

Our sump pump went out and we noticed water in the basement. Chad Olson from Genz Ryan was there within 45 minutes on a Sunday evening. He got a new sump in and explained why the one with the battery back up was better. He was not pushy at all explaining our options. He was very efficient and friendly. This is the second time we have had Genz Ryan do work for us. We needed some upgrades to our bathrooms and water softener. Matt the tech gave us 5 or 6 options and explained fully what each would consist of and the prices. He had recommendations on what worked for him and what he thought would work for us. We are delighted with the service he provided and he is coming back next week to do the work.

Simply the best plumbing service I have ever dealt with! David, treated my home as if it were his own. The pricing was more then fair, and honest. Further more I can t say enough, about the quality, speed, and David our plumber was a true pleasure to work with and a VERY pleasant man to work with. I felt totally comfortable. Also I d love to specifically thank the entire company for their excellent customer service. This was extensive work and the quality shows in every regard. They are TRULY simply the best in my experience and opinion.

To start things out, a pleasant human being answered the phone and was able to schedule someone to come out right away. The technician, Steven, was very professional and personable. Our problem was very elusive, but Steven kept on investigating until he was able to come up with a solution. It is such a rare occasion these days to find someone who follows through and does the difficult jobs. Well done.

our heater went out at 3am. i figured we could get it fixed within a week. I called genz-ryan at 9am and they had someone to my house by 10. I was shocked, that is a quick response, I was skeptical. The heater couldn't be fixed, I was very skeptical. Then they showed me the internal workings of my heater with a digital camera that was able to snake inside the unit. I was no longer skeptical the unit had hidden damage that was putting my entire family at risk, I needed a new unit. So now I'm thinking two weeks. I was wrong a new unit could be had that very day, back to being skeptical. I said yes, was quoted a price, out the door. The repair crew left at 11. I got on the web and found the price was not only in line with what was available but was lower. The install crew came at 11:45 and left at 3:55. I had heat. Now I waited for the hidden cost. There were no hidden costs. My entire experience from first call to finality took less than 8hrs. The job was completed ahead of the time I expected by days and under budget. These guys were great. My only complaint was that these guys kept taking time to always make sure they had little booties on their feet to protect my carpet and house, and they took additional time to make sure everything was totally clean. Kudos to Joe Beckel and the rest of the crew . You gentlemen were GREAT.

John was knowledgeable, professional and worked quickly to resolve the issue with our dishwasher. We appreciated his time to explain what the initial problem was and how he could resolve it for us. Further, he offered to make contact for a repair to replace the damaged piece that from the manufacturer.

First of all I spoke with 2 different women for a tech to visit. They were so friendly and efficient , that I felt good about the company I had hired to come out out for a furnace check up. The tech sent me his picture by email and arrived on time. He gave my furnace a very through check up and replaced a defective humidifier control. I signed up for a yearly check up for $60 and that saved me some money even on this visit. So I think it was a good deal. This was overall a good experience working with Gens-Ryan.

Got plumbing done to fix leaking tub facet.
They did a great job. A little high on price but better quality. Found coupon online saved 100 dollars. Plumber was a skilled master plumber and a vikings fan both plusses.

Used $29.00 coupon for heating tune up compare to xcel energy price of $120.00 was very happy with results. Cost just what they said it would cost $29.00.

Matt was informative about our problems, gave us many options to solve them, and answered our questions. He then ordered the parts and he fixed it the same day. He was very respectful of our home covered the floors when moving the old water heater and cleaned up. He was friendly and easy to have in our home (it was 4 1/2 hrs, waiting for parts), then installing!!!
