DoubleTree by Hilton Tallahassee Review

Only bad stop in 35 day stay in Tallahassee. Unworkable staff. Seemed to dislike government workers. Good location. Can't recommend based on my experience.

Great spot right downtown. Pool and parking garage. 2 blocks to walk to Capitol.

We just lived for one night only. So we have no idea about their service at all. But they have nice decorations inside. The bathroom has separate place for bath with glass. They kept two bottles of water for us inside the room. And they have coffee maker in the room which can brew coffee for two people at a time. We never get such coffee maker in other hotels of this category. Moreover that their breakfast items are awesome and cheaper. We had three kids with us. And they served us so cordially.

Nice digs. Pool a little small. Has ongoing construction which detracts a bit from atmosphere

Awesome location, right @ the capital. Decor has sort of a Dracula's bedroom vibe, but very comfortable.

We used the DoubleTree for our wedding weekend for hotel blocks, getting ready room and the night of the wedding and I am so glad that we did! Carly was the main person we worked with and she was absolutely amazing! She worked with all of our issues or questions and made sure I was comfortable with the rooms we were selecting along with letting me tour the rooms to make sure I was okay with the space to get ready in. We had a situation with another hotel and ended up spending the night of at the DoubleTree and I am glad that we did! They were the best and all the staff was super accommodating!

The bad:

The recently remodeled public areas are hideous. Seriously, it's the ugliest decor I've seen.

The electrical receptacles in my room were all worn out. Nothing would stay plugged in.

Who puts a towel storage rack IN THE SHOWER. Seriously, the towels get damp, and the rack sticks out so far it will brain you when trying to get in the shower. What a horrible idea.

The good:

Great location.
Fantastic staff. Helpful and professional.
Clean.
Room decor was dated, but serviceable.

Hands down one of the best hotels in Tallahassee. The hospitality is 5 stars as well as the service they provide. I love the layout of the hotel and especially the layout of the suites. 10/10 recommend giving it a try.

Great hotel, but last impressions are as important as first impressions. Met with a disinterested clerk at checking out time, which was a shame really. Any hotel is as good as its staff.

Great hotel with best location in town if you like to enjoy all the great Tallahassee activities. Great staff and I can recommend Capital Eggs for breakfast where you'll find super attention from Lacy, Olga and Angel.

Good location, but they weren't very accommodating for what I needed in my room.

Weddings beware! If your planning on having a wedding here I'd think twice. If you choose to have your weeding here be sure to read the contract they give you in full detail before you sign. They will verbally say one thing but your contract says another.

I go between being a Diamond and Gold member at Hilton with between 50 and 100 stays a year. The first night of my check in the customer service of the night crew was simply the best I had ever recieved, should be the example. That is why this review got 2 stars. From this point on. It was a complete failure. Uncomfortable beds, asked several times for a topper or new mattress over several days, was told managment would get back to us,I am still checked in on day 3, waiting to get a phone call....I will update if they ever call before I leave. The pool is 4 feet deep, on the 4th floor between the parking and the street. No wifi, dirty, the access to the pool is key controlled and not working, we rekeyed 3x, finally engineering came to meet us and showed me 6'3" how to defeat their security systems. Goodluck if youre short. The womens bathroom outside the pool area, smelled like piss and rotten eggs and was flooding into the area by the elevator. They put an area rug down by the door to soak up the piss and such, smelled awful in the heat. We had asked for more towels several times as housekeeping didnt get to our room until almost 5pm and we had a dinner to be at. The last time we asked for towels, we waited nearly an hour and no one showed. So I got dressed at 11pm to walk downstairs (exhausted) to get my own towels. They were sitting at the front desk with 3 employees bullsh!tting around them. The hotel is in need of some repairs and upgrades. There is no in house Bar as they havent opened it yet. I asked an employee about it, and they said it was supposed to have been open 3 months ago and wont be for several more months. If the ladies at first check in were so kind, I wouldnt have given any stars. Avoid this property.

The rooms are dated and have a funky smell. They look to have done superficial updates but the rooms are dark. My rooms view was right into the 4th level of the parking garage. I'm diamond w Hilton so I typically get better upgraded rooms.

The rooms were a bit smaller than expected but the location was AMAZING and the staff (from valets to front desk) was AWESOME and helpful with everything! I was in town for an opposing football team's game against FSU, I will be staying here when I return to Tallahassee!

Stayed at this hotel. Left a brand new dress in the closet. Between my husband and myself, we called multiple times in an attempt to speak with someone regarding this dress. With every call we were given the runaround and told to call back. During one call I was told that yes the dress was found, but I would have to call back to speak to head of house keeping. When we did call back once again the runaround and told that they did not have dress. Finally, asked to speak to the supervisor. Guess what.....told to call back. Is the call back later line part of the training program here at this hotel when staff doesn t want to deal with an issue? Customers service fail, Doubletree!! Hope whoever took my dress is enjoying it!

Wonderful for our meeting! Interesting decor! I felt like I was Cinderella at times.

It was a hot day outside and we got a room on the top floor. The room was to large for the AC to properly cool down. Same with the hallways. All were under powered window air conditioners. Besides the AC, we had a great time. The DoubleTree staff was very pleasant even maintenance when we called about it being hot. 3 elevators that always seem to be slow as molasses. Parking was $12 a day and on the second floor.

Very nice hotels rooms are very nice and modern. Checkin was great and room was sanitized and stickered the years when u enter appreciate that. The bar converted to also be a resturant since main resturant closed. Would stay here again

Had construction going on early in the morning. Not good. Could not chance room. Said the sound was throughout the Whole hotel ....it was not! Said there were signs posted....did not See any! They should of mentioned it before we checked in. Needless to say WE CHECKED OUT!

I was here for a wedding this past weekend. The staff itself was very friendly but the hotel, as a business, was very unprofessional and unprepared. The event coordinator had a family emergency and could not make it to the rehearsal. That was inconvenient but completely understandable. But the fact that no one else at the hotel was made aware of the situation and that they had NO ONE there that could assist us is not. Not a single person knew anything. We basically figured the whole thing out ourselves. And the day of the wedding, the groom and us groomsman were running around making sure that things were set up the way that the bride had clearly written down and had discussed with the event planner. And again, the event planner was not there (again understandable) but did not communicate with the hotel properly to make sure that we had everything that we needed. The staff that was there was extremely friendly and tried very hard, but honestly, they are just not very good at these types of things. They lacked the attention to detail that one would expect when hosting a wedding. Not a knock on them at all. They worked very hard. But I think that they could use a bit more training on hosting weddings and large events. If the father of the bride hadn't spent so much money for this wedding, it wouldn't be that big of a deal. But he did, and it is. Beautiful hotel (and when the additions are finished it will be even more beautiful), and a very friendly staff, but I would suggest another venue for a wedding.

Very nice hotel...staff was amazing in handling our needs & made sure our staff & players were well taken care of. Great location and easy access to several spots in the city...definitely worth the price

The decor is a bit much. Very Liberace-esq..but in ceramic and metallic form.

Rooms are ok, but AC is temperamental, and blows right on you as you sleep. Stayed here many times (company's choice) and each time something happened to wake me up.
This last time someone started a sander or power saw at 7:15AM on a Thursday morning!

Great access to downtown restaurants within walking distance. A little pricey but not too bad. The construction on the 16th floor interrupted our nap.

Great staff and great stay. A great place to rest after working hurricane relief.

Awful hotel.

Aside from the inconsiderate construction and times they chose to do the construction, the staff is full of a blend of inexperienced teens who don't know what they're doing and elderly folks who are kinda grumpy and set in their ways.

The room walls were thin enough that you could hear people having a casual conversation on the room next to you.

The theme of the hotel was inconsistent throughout. You couldn't tell if you had walked into a new hotel when going between sections of the lobby.

The pillows were filled with air, because you needed at least 4 of them to somewhat support your head.

We had an experience where the fire alarm went off at 1:30 am, and the staff panicked. It took myself and a couple other guests to calm down the kid at the front desk so the organization of calling the fire department and getting guests out could commence. Turns out the elevator brakes were going out and they smoked an entire floor out. The staff was unable to identify the issue and was about to let everyone go back to their rooms using the faulty elevator because they thought it was a false alarm. A guest had to point out to the staff member that it wasn't a false alarm and smoke was visible on one of the floors.

The heating to the water pipes was faulty as well. The water would go back and forth from cold to hot every 15 seconds or so. The staff seemed to shrug it off as "just part of the old building for some of the floors"

I wouldn't pay more than $30 a night for this hotel.

Didn't stay at hotel but attending a function and food was ok. Hotel decor was a pleasant surprise

Fantastic hotel for the price. I was pleasantly surprised!

When we arrived I guess their system was down or whatever it was but it resulted in us having to wait awhile (very late) before we could go to our rooms while they tried to figure us and some other guests with the same problem out. Because of this we never got a formal introduction, wasn t told where anything was or what floor was what. I over heard the check in people the next day tell someone else where the water was, the pool and what floor the gym was on. Also woke up to a bug on my chest causing me to check the whole room and take the bed apart before going back to sleep. NEVER had that happen before, especially at a Double Tree. Apparently they were out of robes as well, and didn t correct the reservation until after our stay. This also resulted in me getting double charged on my account because of an error on their end and me having to call and trying to correct which is ridiculous.

I asked to speak to a manager two times, both times they took my name and number because, go figure, the manager wasn t available. Still yet to have heard anything....

Good: The bed was comfortable, other than the bug problem, and the bathrooms were clean and the room looked decent. Nice decor, convenient parking garage and the pool area was neat and very cool view from the room of the city. The staff was what made the place nice, incredible staff.

everything else: Didn t like how we were treated being no introduction, leaving not know if the reservation went through and then being double charged for a room fee, not having them call and correct this or catch it which is insane, no robes and wasn t told until i called and asked where they were, and didn t like the small roach on me while i was trying to fall asleep and then trying to communicate with management about all this only to be ignored.

Seems to be recently updated hotel but not in all areas. Toilet flushed louder than anything I've ever heard and there was a lot of dirt in the nooks and crannies in the bathroom in our room. Ice maker on the 6th floor didn't work. We could hear the guest in the room next to us. Parking in the garage is tight and expensive.

We were delighted with our 1 night stay here. We booked late but the front desk staff was very courteous and accommodating. The hotel is being renovated and we loved the decor choices! The beds were very comfortable and the bathroom was spacious. The staff was lovely and we would certainly book a stay again.

Checked in as a diamond member and the counter person seemed clueless. WiFi wasn t working kept getting kicked us off and went downstairs and was asked if I checked in??? Room smelled musty looked in the mini fridge and found someone s milk and leftover food. Went to the little Starbucks in the lobby and they didn t have anything that they advertised. Ordered a large ice coffee without milk got milk made me another and handed me a medium. SMH at the service.

The did give me a late checkout!!

Friendly and helpful staff. Clean comfortable rooms with wonderful amenities.

The breakfast had no peanutbutter, there was.construction going on in the hotel in the morning, and there is no vending machines or food kiosk, just free cookies.

Loved this location, , neat and clean rooms with great interior design. Especially enjoyed a check out time at 12 noon. i will come back again . thanks

New renovations are awful. Service is great though as always.

Room is ok. Decent restaurant and bar. Thin walls. Hear everything in hallway, room next door. If you are here night before football game, there is block party right next to hotel. Not great if you have to wake up early and trying to sleep. It is fine otherwise. Lots to do by hotel.

Dead Cockroaches on the ground of the rest room. did not receive any apologies. Wires in my closet, even worse than a motel. I am a gold status member and decided not to stay in Hilton any more next year.

Nicely renovated, convenient to Florida State University and the Capitol.

Unlike any double tree I've ever been too. I was caught off guard by the decour. Normally I'm a Hampton kind of guy as I travel a lot for work but you cannot beat this location. Right in the heart of Tallahassee and within spitting distance of restaurants and historic buildings.

Beautiful downtown hotel in the heart of the capital district.

I have stayed in numerous Hilton properties, but without a doubt this has been the worst. Below is a picture of my closet with the door open all the way. I was there 2 nights before I finally gave up and left for another hotel. I got little sleep because of a constantly cycling motor or pump close by. The room was not really clean, just barely acceptable. This hotel is run down and old. The elevators were clunky, the doors rattled and the ride was bumpy. Desperately needs updating. The staff wanted to help, but they could not do anything. Other people in our group complained of no hot water. I guess I was lucky with hot water. The decor is amusing and weird. The beds were comfortable and the location to the capital great. If they gut this location and rebuild, this could be a great hotel. Right now, for the price, it is not worth it.
