This applies to the branch near Arlington Virginia. I had a problem with my AC in May, they sent a guy out and he couldnt figure it out. Just said it was overcharged and charged me $80 to remove some freon plus the visit fee. A few weeks later, AC still not working, its hot like crazy in the house, they sent another guy out. He tells me compressor is bad and says its $4100 to fix. This didnt make sense cause heat pump works fine, I told him but he offered nothing. Quick internet search of symptoms says its the TXV valve, apparently its a common problem with Carrier. I call Arlington Heating and Cooling out to come take a look. After about 30 minutes, he says its the TXV valve. $900 later my AC is working perfectly. Two of their techs couldnt diagnose simple problem, almost wasted $4100 dollars, and I sat in a hot house for 3 weeks.

TECH was on time, seemed to know what he was talking about and was very quick in fixing the several issues I needed to get fixed. I could not be more pleased if the repair jobs stays working properly next spring. Tech was also a good sales person for METCALF----he provide a detail review of what I was going to be billed for in regards to the fixed facets.

During 7 years of managing various property types on a global level I've never ran into such an overpriced company that doesn't believe in facts. All I did was call for a filter change & preventative maintenance, I get an invoice for about $500 and no filters were changed, instead the invoice states I called for "no cooling", which is 100% false. Days pass by of me reaching out multiple times to dispute and I finally just request the cost to complete my goal of replacing filters, $525 to change filters...lol. Now I'm looking at a total job of about $1,025 to reach my initial goal. They tell me their costs are industry standard for the local area, yet two other companies I called on yelp quoted me $200, and $300 for the upgraded MERV-13 filters that people want due to Covid-19, yet the tech didn't even talk about those or seem to know what they are from CroppMetcalfe, my quote was for standard filters for $525 and I'm getting the job done for $300. Service manager said he's done this for 19 years and can't believe the costs I told him, yet I facilitate this work on a global level and the average is literally $150-$250 in most cases. Our landlord and neighboring tenants now know about his company and they will not be used.

It s not the quality of work I am complaining about, it s the high prices and methods of charging. To diagnose a problem is $105, plus an additional fee for every 15 minutes over the base minimum. To repair something is a flat fee, based on their schedule. The repair person was in my house a total of about 50 minutes, for which I paid $580, which did not include the part (a motor), which was under warranty. Cropp Metcalf came quickly to diagnose the problem, even though my smart thermostat told us exactly what the problem was. Nevertheless, I was charged $105 for about 15 minutes of work. The faulty motor was installed in about 22 minutes for a fee of about $460. My overall complaint: When it favors CM, they charge by the time/15 minute interval. When it favors the customer, they charge an exorbitant flat fee. Seems sleazy and I m not sure I would use CM again.

My first experience with CroppMetcalfe was excellent. Upon a Sears technician's advice that I have dryer duct cleaned I added air ducts. Decided to try a company whose trucks have been on our Frederick Street block over the years. HVAC technician Caesar Rozario arrived merely 10 minutes after noon on March 31, 2015 and went to work which he completed about 4 PM. He explained what he would do and how and showed me the build up both in our home and in the dryer duct. Mr. Rozario is highly skilled, respectful, and thorough. When our John C. Flood HVAC technician arrived April 2 to perform spring maintenance service, he complimented Mr. Rozario as having done the job the right way. If this experience is indicative of other services I'd highly recommend CroppeMetcalfe.

I am very disappointed with CroppMetcalf and would not recommend them for yearly maintenance. I have been using them for sometime and I blindly trusted the techs since I have always asked for senior techs. My heating system was not operating at full capacity and the tech recommended I have my wheel blower cleaned with a chemical solution. Fortunately a friend of mine recommended a much smaller company with one owner who has so many years of experience to come out and check the system. He found out the Wheel Blower and Coil was so dirty. He was shocked when I told him I have CroppMetcalf come out twice a year to do the maintenance and not once did they say anything about the wheel blower needing to be cleaned. The other smaller company said chemical spray alone will not clean the amount of dirt that is packed and the coil and wheel blower needs to be pulled out and should be
washed with water and chemical. It took him 6 hours to clean all the dirt out and put it back together. He said this amount of dirt build up takes 4-5 years to accumulate. When I told him I had maintenance contract he was shocked that CroppMetcalf never said anything about it to me.
I do not recommend them. They are a big company and have different techs and it is so hard to get a hold of them to discuss issues especially if you have a rental property.

The technician led me to believe that it would be a difficult job, but it was actually quite simple. They sold me a service plan that I will never use. It has been extremely frustrating working with this company because they will not admit that they installed the wrong unit for our home nine years ago and charged us 20k. Rip off! $1200 for unnecessary items and problem still not fixed. Triple markup on cheap parts. No leak check on an obviously depleted AC system. Tech said if call back was required that leak check would be performed at no cost. Called back technician begged to differ. So I am out another 350 for a leak check and another 200+ for all the blown refrigerant. All this on an old system that will cost 5K ish to replace in a few years. What a giant disappointment.

I was thrilled that on 4/2; a technician from CroppMetcalfe arrived to resolve all the issues with my heating/AC system. The major issue was that the defrost board/sensor on my outside compressor died, so the compressor needed to be turned off & I had to rely on the more expensive emergency heating. Due to Covid, I was told that these parts wouldn't arrive till later May (problem began on 3/8). So it was a delightful surprise that these defunct parts were located & installed earlier than expected on 4/2, and I no longer had to pay more a more expensive heating bill. Great job, CroppMetcalfe.

If you need your boiler repaired; DO NOT CALL THIS COMPANY! They don't employ service technicians. They employ salespeople who pretend to be service technicians. Our boiler went out on February 15, 2021. I paid $115.00 to have one of their so called technicians to come out.

When I called them, I spoke to someone named Maurice who asked me some very personal questions about my medical history. Maurice asked me about Covid 19 and I did not like the way I was being talked too. I wished I hung up on him TO AVOID all this aggravation.

After working with him, we negotiated an appointment to have a service technician to come out. Our service technician was a GLORIFIED SALESMAN who made our equipment look defective and derelict to try and trick us into replacing the boiler. The GLORIFIED SALESMAN OOPS I UH mean the TECHNICIAN they sent basically told us that everything wrong wrong with the boiler. The technician made it look like we had a Carbon Monoxide problem. TWO OTHER CONTRACTORS CAME IN and refuted everything that was described. Your technician quoted us $4200.00 for things that were not actually wrong. He was right about the backflow valve not being current. It did not need replacing as long as it was:

1. Up to code at the time of the installation (IT WAS GRANDFATHERED)
2. Wasn't a health or safety hazard to the building or its occupants.

There is also no way to properly diagnose Carbon Monoxide levels UNLESS the burner is running properly.

The Steam valve and the expansion tank were functioning properly and did not need replacing. The technician didn't even open the burner cabinet properly to actually see what was wrong.

I also did not like the technician to demand me to sign a danger tag to put on the boiler. It took all my strength to NOT immediately end the visit and throw him off my property.

WE ENDED UP GETTING THE BOILER PROPERLY FIXED WITH AN EXPERIENCED AND REPUTABLE HVAC SERVICE. It was only $677.00 to replace the burner control module and pilot light assembly. The boiler was properly tested for Carbon Monoxide with the burner consistently working. The reading was a fraction of 1 part per billion which is the normal level in our atmosphere.

I will have to admit they did put on an amazing show that ended up costing $115.00. Before I resorted to leaving a negative review. I did call the company to voice my concerns. The woman I spoke with on the phone identified herself as Kimberly. She was the only one I felt did the right thing. Following that phone call, I received a PRE WRITTEN SCRIPTED EMAIL from a Ms. Dawn Smoot. She basically IGNORED all my concerns and told me:

"Our technician recommended replacement of your boiler and to call us to set up a time". It is clear to me that this company has made up its mind how it will do business and doesn't care. Once I got that response from Ms. Smoot. THAT WAS ALL I NEEDED TO KNOW.

FIVE STAR SERVICE! MORE LIKE ZERO STAR SERVICE! OUT OF FAIRNESS to the technician; while he is responsible for his actions. It isn't fair to entirely blame him! I place the blame on the management of the company because I think this behavior wouldn't happen unless they condoned it.

A very nice and skilled plumber named Duwayne came to my home, exercising all necessary safety measures due to the pandemic, and assessed the problem with the water leak in my kitchen. He proposed a method of addressing it that required some creativity due to some special challenges in how my dishwasher had been installed. He came back the next week and performed all necessary repairs in a timely way. He was extremely personable as well as capable.

They come on time, are courteous and friendly and do a great job, Today two men serviced my air conditioner. I am now confident that come summer, I will be comfortable. Then the tech didn t have minimal supplies on hand like filters and batteries for the thermostat. The tech did shoddy work and didn t ask me about actually fixing a problem. Finally the level of poor customer service is evident by this review. A week ago I sent a bad review about the horrible service. Rob, the technician, was most outstanding. He was the best and most personable technician who has visited my home -- albeit, some of the others were very close. He spent time installing a new thermostat and instructing me in it's use. He made sure I understood it's settings and operation. He was most personable and knew his craft well. He also discussed the use and operation of my heating/cooling system making things easier to understand. He was quick and efficient. You could tell that he was a professional who loved his work. His task, at my house, was on an emergency Sunday basis. I am thankful for his visit as my thermostat went inoperative the late evening before -- it no longer digitally operated. It had died of old age. This was during a cold wave. All appears to be well now. Everything was taken care of for no charge under my Gold Policy

I asked for a quote to have a gas line under my deck extended 12 feet and to have a quick release put on the end. They gave me an estimate of $1428.00. I bought the materials myself for $78.25 and hired a handy man who did the job perfectly in 2 hours for $200. I wouldn't hire them to do anything based on these prices. They also tried to give me the impression the job was much more complicated than what it actually was. USE at your own risk. Use Angies List and get someone that wont screw you!

I am so unbelievably disappointed in Cropp Metcalfe - Plumbing. They did a great job servicing my HVAC, and now thanks to what happened with my plumbing, I will never use them again. They assessed my situation at 5pm, informing me I needed a different technician. AT 9;15pm, the technician arrived. He had been informed of both situations prior to arriving. But said he needed to wait on a call from his manager to proceed. 5 min later he was in his truck, leaving. His exact words were, I have to walk away. No apology, no further explanation. It is now 9:30pm before a weekend and i can't use my water, and have spent literally all day dealing with a problem that Cropp Metcalfe knew about since 8:15 this morning, and then told me at 9:30 at night that "they have to walk away." I have literally never left a poor review before, but this was unbelievable. I will never use Cropp Metcalfe again. I was going to use them to install my security doorbell on Tuesday - I will now be cancelling that appointment.

The only reason I gave one star is because I can't submit it without a rating. The only positive I have to say about this company is the technician who has been out the most has been very helpful. They are never on time and they have had to return six times to fix one issue. It seems as if their scheduling department doesn't talk to their technicians to clarify what the job actually entails. The first technician that came to the house was very nice and explained that the fix would be a two person job. When the reschedule came out there was only one guy and he didn't have the part because he was told the issue was one thing when it was something completely different. So, he went to Home Depot to get the part and allegedly fixed our plumbing issue.....but low and behold the next morning we still had a leak. We have had to miss numerous hours of work just for them to cancel or not show up at all. Once the leak was actually fixed we haven't had another issue with the leaking. However, we went to have the drywall patched and the pipe they installed dropped below the ceiling so we still have hole in our ceiling. Technician called and said they would be at our house by 7 p.m. and of course is late and hasn't called to explain why. I WILL NEVER RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY TO ANYBODY ELSE. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. It looks very professionally done but the company would not provide a professional quote on company letterhead and would not provide a copy of license upon request. They claim to be verified license and verified liability but upon request indicated that because I requested their credentials they did not want to do a $3,800.00 job. I hired CroppMetcalfe to repair or replace my whole house dehumidifier. It was determined the dehumidifier had failed and the manufacture would provide a replacement unit under warranty. After waiting 30 days with no word from CroppMetcalfe I contacted Aprilaire directly and received a new unit under warranty in one week. Aprilaire was awesome....CroppMetcalfe not so much. Won't use again.

I've been with CroppMetcalfe since 1985. They provided us service in our first home and when we moved to another house, we continued with their services.
I rate their technicians tops - knowledgeable, courteous, and are very careful about not leaving any trash when they leave.

I only wish though that management would have some kind of award for their loyal customers.

I was extremely impressed with the service provided to me and my mom over the weekend. Her heat was not working, so I was able to get someone to come look Friday morning, same day. George Faltaos was the tech and he gave me the repair estimate for the 17 year old unit. We were leaning towards replacement and the Salesman was able to come out later that evening. My mom is stage 5 renal failure and it was super important to get her heat fixed asap. Jeremiah Dutcher was so helpful and nice to my mom. He helped us get installation of the new unit scheduled for the next day, Saturday. Our lead Tech for the installation, Oscar Caballero was also very professional and him and his colleague completed the install in just over 5 hours. The entire experience was so pleasant and could have been much harder. I am so thankful to everyone who helped us! XOXO

Both of my HVAC units broke down at the same time on a very hot day. We have a contract with Croppmetcalfe and called them for service. They arranged to come the next day. The technician used all Covid precautions wearing a mask the entire time. He diagnosed the problems immediately. A part had to be ordered. We paid up front $1500 and he said he would try to get the part that day. Within a half hour the parts department called and said they had found the part and the would send a technician by the end of the day. We were so excited because it was 90 degrees in our upstairs. A few hours later they called and said that the 10 year warranty was still good on our unit and that would cover the part and we would only have to pay for labor. They could have just kept the $1500 and we would have never known the difference. Instead we paid less than $500 instead of $1500. The part arrived at 3 pm and the technician came at 6 pm. He installed the part and by 7 pm our upstairs was starting to cool off. Last night we slept in our beds with cool comfort. I could not be more pleased with the honest, efficient, timely and professional service provided by Croppmetcalfe and our competent and professional technician Avile. He and they deserve a 5 star rating.

Now had to have technician out to bleed air out of lines that should have been done at install. Now with both thermostats off the heater is still on! Cut power, sending yet again another technician

The service I received from CroppMetcalfe was hands-down the worst that I have ever received, not just from HVAC companies, but from service professionals in general. Everything about it from beginning to end was incompetent, and at times negligent.

I had asked the company to conduct duct work on my HVAC system. After an initially promising consultation, it then took the manager 3 weeks to send a proposal which I had been told should have arrived within days. When the scheduled day for the work finally came around, I spent a morning sitting at home waiting for them, and it was only when I took it upon myself to call them that I was informed that they wouldn't be arriving that day on account of (ironically) their truck having over-heated. Quite why this meant that they couldn't make a courtesy call to me to let me know is beyond me.

The problems didn't stop there. Failure on their part to adjust the cooling agent resulted in humidity in my house spiking, which caused the floorboards to warp. There was also a leak on the AC unit caused by their not tightening it appropriately. Numerous frantic calls to the manager went unanswered until the next morning, with the excuse that he had turned his cell-phone off at 8.30pm.

Even when the problems were addressed and resolved, they let themselves down in small areas, such as failing to replace the filters because "they didn't carry them in their vans", which seems incredible for a company that specializes in installing HVAC systems.

Even their collecting of payment on invoices was abysmal. Four months after the work was carried out, I received an email informing me that they had never sent out an invoice, but asked that I pay it immediately to avoid being sent to collections. This for an invoice that they had never bothered to send me in the first place.

Some might wonder why I used them in the first place, especially since they got off to such a poor start. It's a fair question, and unfortunately a telling indication of the poor service offered by many other HVAC companies in the DC area. With that said, I have to believe that there are better ones out there.

Our heater was not working, so I called them and had someone arrive later than the designated time range, but that's expected. The technician couldn't quite diagnose the problem, but said we needed a limit switch --which they told us the year before and we replaced. When I told him that he seemed short with me, saying that it wasn't in their system, and I felt like he was accusing me of lying. Then he said we needed to get an air quality analysis to really find out, which we also did a couple years ago through CroppMetcalfe. When I told him that, he seemed irritated again that it wasn't in their system. He said that the person who did the test will reach out to us within the day. We never heard back from anyone. So we paid $150 for nothing. I called Thomas E. Clark and got a quick response and a diagnosis of the actual problem which was an easy fix. Their technician was a lot more knowledgeable and professional.

Spoke with Dan the plumbing manager who had called to discuss the review I left and see if there was anything that could be done to resolve this matter. He heard me out, acknowledged there were some issues and at the end asked what could be done to better improve my impression of the company. In fairness to him, he refunded me the extra charge and that is the customer service I would ve expected to begin with.

I consider this resolved now and have given him information on where it went wrong from a customer perspective. As a board member in my building, I will recommend CroppeMetcalfe going forward and share my experience. They are a premium company that charges more in general but you do get some added benefits. In addition, they were responsive to customer feedback which is a plus in their line of work.

I had a terrible experience with CroppMetcalfe as my water heater needed help. They were recommended to me by a neighbor and the reviews were decent so I decided to move forward. They started out okay in the quote phase and then got progressively worse.

I knew they would be a little more expensive given the reviews and the quotes I was getting. However, their customer service is shocking and they even tried to upsell me the day of the service. I worked primarily with Ricky Miller who used some sneaky/shady tactics to save this job like guilt tripping and potentially exaggerating availability/cost of the product.

What was supposed to be a 4 hour job turned into 8 hours with an additional $200 charge which is not a lot but on principal, after giving me a quote that was all inclusive, I thought it was atrocious. I am a board member in my building and we are in the phase where many of our water heaters will need to be replaced soon and had I had a better experience, I would recommend adding them to our vendor list. I will not be doing that now.

I also sent an email to them with my issues and surprisingly, have heard nothing back. What a joke of a company. DO NOT USE THEM if you can find someone else.

This company is a nightmare in regards to Pest Control. I paid for the year only to find out that the sales representative put in quarterly billing. They did not notify me until 7 months later that my account had an outstanding balance. Sales Representative never told me he was not the technician I would be seeing every quarter. I have had 4 different technicians in 7 months, when they do come I have to convince them they I have a pest problem.

Technician was courteous and prompt. He mentioned what might be causing the problem and suggested that he get in touch with someone from sales who could better assess the situation. This was done and the person from sales came out. However, he admittedly was not the right person to make a determination and suggested we get in touch with a company who deals with finding leaks. We are scheduled for such. My only negative is that it was no need in having someone from sales to come out. We needed someone who could detect and fix the problem.

Have had Croppemetcalf out for multiple service calls for HVAC, electric and plumbing. Always quality service, up front with cost and each technician takes the time to explain what they did, why they did it and advice for preventative maintenance. Recently had a sink installed and had Croppemetcalf do the garbage disposal, drain trap,faucet and shut off valve replacement. JR did a fantastic job. While doing the job, he noticed our main shut off valve to the house (which at the time was a gated shut-off valve) wasn't completely cutting the water to the house. I asked if he could replace it with a ball valve type after the sink and without any hesitation said no problem. We now know when we leave our house for a trip, the water is absolutely shut off. Scheduled a tech to come look at our garbage disposal that was installed by CroppMetcalfe. The disposal was not operating properly. I was charged an $80 diagnostic fee and told the fee would be waived if I paid for repairs. The Tech spent all of five minutes working on the disposal. He did get it operating again but said it was not installed properly or could be a "defect." He then charged me a $150 dollars for the repair plus the diagnostic fee. When I called to ask for a refund I was sent to Accounts Receivable who never returned my call. This company is all about getting your money. They do not take time or care in customer service. I do not recommend them.

I have been with CroppMetcalf for over 15 years and have a gold service contract. I have always had superior service. The men who do the routine checks are professional thorough and excellent. Recently, I have been considering replacing my 20 year old AC system. Their salesman Chris is truly outstanding and Jonathan who did a "blower door test are quite frankly amazing with their knowledge professionalism and workmanship. And Matt, who handles the scheduling over the phone is excellent, professional and very helpful. They are all always- expert, skillful and efficient and pleasant. They take the extra time to explain their findings and suggestions clearly.
They make CroppMetcalf a superior organization.
