Came in today to look for my missing cat. The staff in the stray building were VERY rude. I had to say hi to them, nobody greeted me. There was a rude Hispanic girl about 20yrs old who looked MISERABLE to be there and two other guys sitting at the front desk glued to their phones...freakin millennials!

The stray cat room SMELLED of piss. I understand, that this place does not get a lot of funding and is run on volunteers but come on! The floors had feces and dried piss stains. Very sad. The volunteers just sitting around could ve been cleaning up the facility but instead looked miserable and bored out of their mind. Really hope this place gets closed down and replaced with something better.

I had a friend that worked here briefly and she said that the Spca euthanizes 150-200 animals per day. Very sad.

I adopted my cat Morgana from CCSPCA today. Very friendly staff and people come in and my boy is very healthy and happy! Though I will say in this review do beware of getting animals at any shelter. Be sure you know what you want and look around. Definitely satisfied with adopting an animal there and having Morgana part of our forever home!

This place is just sad. I couldn't bear the smell of the place for over 5 minutes and the animals didn't seem to have enough space. Most of the dogs were adorable and seemed happy to see people, but did not seem to have proper conditions. I have seen other non-kill shelters that have far better conditions than this.

FYI: they open at 10a every day. I've been working with the SPCA for over 30 years and have always had positive experiences. They are kind, helpful and do their best under difficult and painful conditions.

I had a great experience at this shelter. Not sure what this Christine woman is talking about. They kill 82% of animals that come through here...is that including owner-requested euthanasia and animals they simply can't afford to pay large medical costs for? I had a friend who worked here and told me abused animals came in all the time, and they don't have $2000 per animal to fix broken bones (if they spent that much, every animal would cost a lot more to adopt and NONE of them would get adopted). Where is she even getting this statistic? I did a search and couldn't find anything like it. And her claim that Fresno is the poorest county in California...where did she get that from? It's not even CLOSE to the poorest. Yes, they spend 60% of their budget on salaries (that's NOT 2/3rd's, FYI). They need people to work there, including professionals, and no, veterinarians, accountants, and office clerks do NOT work for free. Yes I looked it up; they're spending around $6,100 per DAY, 365 days a year, on their animals.

I'm not saying CCSPCA is the best organization around, but please be fully informed. They are NOT a no-kill shelter. There are only so many people willing to adopt animals and it would be cruel to make them live there for years, so I'm sure they put down some of the less adoptable ones.

Very sad that the staff are negligent and fail the vulnerable animals in their care. They euthanize pets that have rescue commitments because they forget to update their files. It's shameful. Please go and adopt the pets there to give them a chance at surviving.

The kid behind the counter was rude. Not only to me but he was rough with the little scared kitten we brought in. He lacked any respect and showed zero compassion for the situation. This place might seem like it portrays itself. Wouldn't recommend that you bring in any strays.

We were passing through town and found a little kitten on the side of a highway while getting gas. We stopped at three places (the first two wouldn't accept him due to zoning), and we finally were referred to CCSPA. They took our info and took the cute kitten. We thought we were leaving him in good care. Where we are from and the shelters we are used to, the animal has 30 days to find a home and if not the people who brought them in are contacted before they consider euthanasia. We emailed them and tried to keep ourselves updated because we would have figured out a way to keep her alive, even though we are on the other side of the country. After 7 DAYS, you heard it, only 7 days, they put down the kitten, citing not being able to fix her yet and not finding her a home.
I am sure they are understaffed and overwhelmed, BUT it is terrible that they put him down after only a week, without contacting the people who brought him in who were literally in contact with the shelter since the day after we dropped him off. If you value the life of the pet in your care and want it to have a fighting chance of actual adoption or living, DO NOT take them to CCSPCA. I don't know much about Fresno, but the services of their animal services and shelters are lacking.

Excellent place to visit. Although you may have to stand in line outside due to covid-19 and nearly impossible to get through on their phones. It is still a great place to visit because the staff is very helpful, friendly and the best part is they truly have The Animals best interest at heart. Please support this or any SPCA in your area.

Offers cremation services for less than most but no urn options. Also good for adopting a dog to replace a recently lost one. The volunteers and staff do their best with limited resources and old equipment.

I love the SPCA. I got my cat here and the shots for my pets. I believe it's a labor of love and the people here really care for the animals. I watched this woman who worked there go above and beyond to help an elderly man with all the information regarding his dogs' vaccines. She was so patient and thorough. She made sure all his concerns were address and it's was so refreshing to see. She and people like her are the reason I continue to support the SPCA in every way I can.

As a new and current volunteer, I am learning so m...

As a new and current volunteer, I am learning so much on the resources, services, and departments that the CCSPCA provides the public with. I have taken it upon myself to educate myself on learning more on how I can help and contribute to the CCSPCA. As I was reading the reviews some clients have left, I will definitely take into consideration how I approach and provide useful services to ANYONE AND EVERYONE who walks into our doors. Growing up, I believed the stereotype that the CCSPCA will kill your furry friend, and that idea hunted me. After taking the initiative to volunteer and find out how the CCSPCA functioned, I discovered that unfortunately some of these animals are indeed euthanized due to the lack of responsibility our society has. CCSPCA would love to proclaim that they are not a No-Kill shelter, but the unfortunate truth is that they have to take certain measures due to the negligence of pet owners who abandon, mistreat, abuse and or surrender their pets. Unfortunately the lack of space the facility has cannot accommodate all the animals coming in even with the efforts of transferring some of these animals to other shelters etc. CCSPCA would love to keep and find a home for every single animal that steps into their doors, but IT ALL STARTS WITH YOU! OUR COMMUNITY, OUR SOCIETY, AND OVERALL UNDERSTAND THAT WHEN YOU DECIDE TO CARE FOR AN ANIMAL, YOU ARE MAKING A LONG-TERM COMMITMENT. Animals are not a toy you can have for a few days, weeks, or a few years, they deserve a home where they will be loved, cared for, and not have to worry if their owner will toss them out the first time they misbehave or do something that gets you upset. My goal as a current volunteer is to eradicate the stereotype that CCSPCA is not a place to consider when your furry baby needs care, assistance, and or a service performed. This is one of the main reasons as to why I've decided to take the first step and become a volunteer at the CCSPCA. My last advice/review, would be that if you re not sure if you'd like to commit to a long term commitment, you are more than welcome to FOSTER AN ANIMAL. When you foster you do your part in saving another animal from being euthanized, plus you learn how to properly care and learn about the different support services the CCSPCA has; who knows, maybe you find the extra love you needed in your life by fostering. Regardless of what your experience has been with the CCSPCA, (Positive or Negative) I encourage you to become a volunteer, because when you do, you contribute to a good change versus just complaining about how bad the CCSPCA is. And if you cannot foster at the moment, you can also do your part in donating or making supplies, treats and much more. On a side note, I just became a volunteer about a week ago, and let me just say, that I am learning really cool information, so I hope that after reading this you too become motivated to join and help make a great impact to our CCSPCA.

Just warning, me (and my daughters emotional support animal) is been threatened to be taken here despite the fact that the people who are keeping the dog and refusing to return it to me, the lisenced owner here in Oregon (which they were just up here last week yet failed to return the animal) theyve posted him on craigslist fresno pets for FREE and made up a story about rescuing him from a bad situation when in fact, this Puggle, names P.B Puggles Oday, was my daughters emotional support animal and when she was taken back to Fresno, took her dog with her. These people have tried getting money from me and made many false claims as to his health and then refuses to return him (if hes such a burden and health hazard etc like supposedly they claim....why not just return him to lisenced owner?) simple and logical choice for any upstanding citizen right? Please be on the lookout for Puggles, he was posted on cl 12 hours ago and I will give a reward to anyone who may see him in this shelter and can help me retrieve him before hes adopted out and forever missing. Thank you and God Bless!

I called in for someone to pick up an injured stray cat and it's been 3 hours since i initially called for someone to pick up the cat. I called multiple times and the operator had confirmed my address with them and she had also confirmed that someone would be sent my way but no one has shown up yet. It's the summer time and it's humid and hot outside and the poor cat has to be outside until they arrive on scene.

If anyone steps foot in this hell hole, they will lose faith in humanity. It had the worst service, worst staff, no knowledge of any animal brought in to this place. NO COMPASSION at all whatsoever. Horrible place on earth The faces of these unheard creatures made me want to give my own life to them. THier souls are just trapped in such disgusting conditions.

I work at a pet hospital on Shaw and 99. There was a medium brindle dog running around causing traffic problems and people almost hitting it. I called the first time about a week ago because we were unable to catch the dog and they came out. They were out there awhile so I assumed they took the dog. A lady called and said she received a text message stating that it might be her dog running around and described the dog to me perfectly. I told her the SPCA picked up the dog and to check there and she was super excited. The next day I saw the dog running around again. I called the SPCA and told them about the lady looking and said again that someone needs to come get the dog before it causes an accident or it gets killed. They sent someone out and they sat in the truck for about 5 minutes and then left. Today I arrived at work and the dog is smashed and opened all over the street. Now I had to call the SPCA to pick up a dead dog and if that lady calls back I will have to give her the bad news. The SPCA constantly lets us down this is just the worst case. Not to mention all the dogs we see at my hospital with parvo and kennel cough that they adopt out from the shelter. Then they give people an option to get a new dog and return the other like its some sort of shirt from the store...its disgusting.

Never go here!! This place is slaughtering dogs and turning people away that are willing to adopt. They are making things complicated when I filled out my adoption form. Then I get a call saying they are raffling the dog I was willing to adopt when I was first on the list. They also don't even answer their phones so save your time and breath.

I too regrettable give a 1 star:( I witnessed the chaos first hand. We went to adopt a Cat or kitten. Had to walk through the dog pen and omg the stench was almost unbearable. We waited for about 15 minutes before we were assisted. We decided on a kitty that turned out needed to be spayed. It was sad to know that all the kitty's don't get spayed until their adopted. Anyways we took our paper up to the front to pay. We sat down on their bench and started waiting with 2 people ahead of us. As we sat there with only one young man to assist everyone, we noticed 2 elderly ladies stroll by with their badges on and seemed to not care about people waiting. This adoption process is a bit time consuming which is understandable but why can't they step in to help?
This place broke this animal lover's heart and I will not go back. Animals were unhappy:(

When will kill shelter apologists realize that the CCSPCA neglects its duty educate the community in regards to spay/neuter pets. When is the last time anyone has seen so much as a billboard educating the public that cats can get pregnant as early as 4 months? Never. CCSPCA even goes as far as killing spayed/neutered stray and feral cats when it is not necessary. There is method called TNR (trap-neuter-return) where a person can trap a feral cat, get a fixed by a vet, and then free it after recovery. The top 1/8 of the cat's right is clipped so as to show the cat has been spayed/neutered. The CCSPCA was COMPLETELY UNAWARE of this method of animal control. I learned this through a phone call I made to them a month ago. When I called the CCSPCA didn't even know what TNR was. I had to explain it to them bit by bit. Even then they put me on hold until someone who barely spoke English picked up the phone. I had to then call them back and that's when they told me that the a TNR fixed feral cat would still be put to death. The CCSPCA still insists on killing these feral cats even though they can no longer reproduce and may be feed by community residents. One should also not that the CCSPCA does not practice TNR, nor do they educated the public about TNR, nor do they offer free spay/neuter for TNR cats. They simply kill them. This is not animal control. This is just killing animals needlessly.

Horrible experience . Made an appointment over the phone the day of. The person I spoke to gave me a time window, or so I thought it was, to show up. I bring my two young daughters (who s cat just passed away) and we get to the door only to be told that we missed our appointment even though there was still time. I know what happened and I get it. Apparently it wasn t a time window, it was an actual time to be there. Again, I understand that. What my issue is that when I made the appointment it came across as a time window so there was clearly a miscommunication. So now I have two crying girls and drive a half hour at rush hour to get there and they can t even have some understanding. A lady who was there offered to give us her time but alas, the people inside joyfully denied that. I went back to the door after the girls were in the car to try and reason with someone and nothing came of that other than some attitude from the employee. Now this is a county run place so I would expect it to be run professionally and I m sad to say that it is not. That was a rough drive home and we definitely will not be going back after a very dissatisfied experience. We just moved to the area and this really killed that excitement. On to somewhere else!

Lady on the phone told us to come down before the listed hours of operation and we could check to see if the missing kittens had been found. When we arrived she turned us away and said to come back later. Dude. W. T. F. Wasted our time, my gas, and did not provide good customer service at all.

We have a goat that was suffering so we called the spca and asked them if they euthanized goats and they put me on hold and then said yes we do its $50.00 go ahead and bring him down so I loaded him in the car and made the 25 minute drive just to be told no we dont do farm animals after I specifically called and asked

When you get out there they provide great services at affordable prices. Even offer low income portions for your pets. The only downside to the CCSPCA is that they have a problem with answering their phones, don't even try the animal hospital its "closed" and theirs no msg line. They're email friendly. No longer have a thrift store, turned it into a supply shop. Their adoption center is acceptable and the gals in the hospital do such a great job, their informative, kind, and go out of their way to help you with your concerns.
