Nothing but a wonderful organization who truly car...
Nothing but a wonderful organization who truly cares about the suffering of our strays and abandoned animals.
I fostered a sweet mother cat and her three kittens for a few days before my husband needed them to go (he's allergic). I was hoping to keep them off the streets and out of the heat in Fresno for a while (they were found on someone's porch in Sanger). Had I returned them to the streets, they would have faced a life of fleas & ticks, the heat, the lack of food/water, the constant procreating, accidents with cars, mean people, & fights with other strays. I couldn't do it to them.
In three short days, I bonded with them all. They were all so loving and fantastic with my 3 year old son. It broke my heart to part with them, but all of the no-kill shelters didn't have any room (as it's kitten-season in Fresno).
Noah, the manager (?) greeted me and we agreed that I would do an "owner surrender" so they wouldn't have to wait in the stray "holding area" for four days (I couldn't bear it). Because they all had a cold, they were taken as a family into an isolation unit to be treated before being set up for adoption (I had tried to find good homes for 3 days).
For a minimal fee ($80), I dropped them off to be cared for by the staff, and with identifying numbers/tags to let me keep track of their progress (adopted or not) in the future.
The CCSPCA gets a bad rap for euthanizing unwanted/unadoptable animals. I must say, they're truly just cleaning up behind the lazy/callous/negligent owners and breeders that contribute to the overpopulation of animals in Fresno.
I have nothing but respect and admiration for those who do the "tough work" when it comes to respecting and caring for animals. With nearly 8 million animals entering shelters every YEAR, euthanization is truly the most kind option for those who don't have a chance at being adopted. There is nothing worse than life in a cage, surrounded by barking, stressed out animals. Save your criticism for the pet owners who support breeders and who don't spay or neuter. We have a stray/abandoned animal crisis in Fresno, and the SPCA deserves our support for doing what the rest of us WON'T: offering a solution to alleviate animal suffering.
Thank you, SPCA and Noah for your efforts and support!
