Really great service for a shop that gets as busy as it does. Some of the staff are obviously newer, but they knew when to grab a senior salesperson when our conversation got more technical.

I love that they saved me money by recommending that I dilute my Park Tool CB-2 Chainbrite with water so that I do not waste it or have to buy it as often. It cleans just as well! Little things like this that keep me a loyal customer, as it shows their sales team care about my needs as a rider over pushing unnecessary purchases on me.

The $20 saved will undoubtably go towards my next Trail Bike purchase (from them).

I feel like I can really trust these guys, I've struck gold with them!

I bought my cyclocross bike here, was a very pleasant experience. I had a full bike fitting which is worth it,they applied the cost of the bike fitting towards the bike I later bought. Good selection and friendly staff.

update after dealing with caps service department.

I really wanted to like this store, its close to home , a local business with reasonably helpful staff. I kept going back in even after I had issues with minor tuneups. My commuter bike sees a lot of Ks so it was easy to drop here after work instead of going downtown. After multiple issues with my bike being serviced here I would avoid this place and look elsewhere.

I had multiple services completed on my bike and had to take my bike back in for major issues that they had missed after nearly every service. The two that stick out as red flags were the front wheel not spinning after the front hub was overhauled (after less than 6 months into owning the bike) and the mechanics forgetting to reassemble my bottom bracket correctly with a spacer (cranks moved side to side) after I had the bike assessed and fixed after a car hit me. They were usually apologetic and resolved the issues after I complained a lot. The other issues I had involved were my brakes being incorrectly adjusted (multiple times), usually the front, incorrect/inaccurately indexed gears, seat post set way off the originally position (easy fix, but why should I pay $80 for service and have to get home and readjust my seat post?)

I think the problem with the service department might be inexperienced/incompetent staff working on the bikes and the number of work orders they are taking on. The result is cutting corners and just trying to get the bikes back out the door.

I never took my road bike here for a service and wouldn't recommend that anyone who has a decent bike or any bike for that matter goes here for a service.

Excellent, knowledgeable and friendly staff. Tyson was very patient with me, answered all my questions and made some great suggestions. There were 3 bikes that I had researched and without me telling him, he recommended 2 of the 3. He helped me get the right bike and it's a perfect bike. Took it out for a ride as soon as I got home and I absolutely love it. So much fun and a lot more suited to me than my old one. Thanks for all the help Tyson.

We bought our Norco Indie 3 bikes (yes plural) at Cap's Westwood Cycle, Port Coquitlam location. We love the experience of buying our bikes at this location. Amrit is the sales person who helped us. Thanks Amrit for being so patience! I have nothing to say but pleasant experience.
We had to pick up one of the bikes at the Burnaby location (note:our decision). No hassle at all.
Definitely will be back for bike accessories. Girl gotta have bells and whistle on her new bike!

The team at Cap's Westwood cycles are fantastic! After a long and slightly stressful flight from Chicago and a missing bike, these guys did everything they could to get me set up on one of their Trek road bikes so I could race BC Superweek.

As soon as we walked in the door we were greeted with friendly and helpful staff.

The shop is amazing, the product selection is huge and they hav multiple test items! As a fussy cyclist this is what we love to see!

I couldn't have had a more enjoyable and positive experience. If you're near any of their stores make sure you stop by and check them out! You won't be disappointed!

Worst customer service I've ever dealt with in any business. The staff are so undereducated, know nothing of bikes and absolutely no care in the customers other than selling more bikes and products. Waste of time and money. No customer loyalty, and no effort put in by management to make the who better. All about sales, nothing else. Also most ignorant employees I've ever dealt with in the bike industry, work there. Caps has never changed. If you want to get ripped off, and treated poorly, this is your place.

Great service. I purchased a bike at Canadian Tire in May. I caught a flat I had to replace a tire in July. I did not do a very good job of it as the chain was not quite right. In addition I started hearing some clicking noises. It seems that the bike was not well assembled originally at Canadian Tire. Paid $25 to Cap's Westwood Cycle to look at it. They did solve the reported problem, the problem with the chain, and another smaller issue. The bike runs like a charm since. Better then when I originally purchased it. Highly recommend this place. Could not ask for a better service

I need to give credit where credit is due. I've been into Westwood Cycles a few times lately for various things and keep going back. Now I won't go anywhere else. I've worked retail and customer service my whole career and can recognize good service when I see it. I've also worked in the bike industry and these guys are the real deal. There is a reason there is a lineup to get into the service shop.

I had a Giant bike that I purchased in Australia and took it in for a service. I later broke my rear cassette and took it into the service shop. Ryan helped me out and was blown away by the service I received. I was in a tricky situation -- I had (what I felt to be) a genuine warranty with a major components manufacturer. After doing some research online, I learned that due to the fact this part was spec'd on a complete bike, I would have to warranty this through the bike manufacturer (Giant) rather than the cassette manufacturer. Fair enough. Different distributors for Giant Bikes in Canada and Australia make this difficult. To compound matters, I was leaving for an international race in 5 days. I took the part into Ryan on a Sunday to ask him to have a look at it. After discussing my options, I left it with them to talk to the manufacturer and see if they could order a new part.
Monday AM before lunch I received a call that the part had been replaced and was ready to come pick it up. Honestly they couldn't have couriered a part out that quickly. Due to the strong relationships ( one can only imagine?) with the manufacturers, they had swapped the part out with floor stock and were going to get a credit for a new retail piece from the manufacturer.
I was absolutely blown away by this service. Not only the fact that they would do this when I didn't purchase the bike there, they don't even SELL Giant, but that they risked taking a hit on this to get me out racing. This speaks volumes about the relationships they must have with their suppliers and honestly feel that you could buy with confidence from them. This is rare in the bike industry and these guys have a new full time customer. Retailers take note: THIS is how it's done.

(I'm late on this review as I've only just returned back to BC after some time overseas, this took place in Sept. '15.
I was assisted by the Service MGR, Ryan the head Mechanic, and Evan on the sales floor. This shows what a team effort it was to get me back on the road.
I don't have any affiliation with this store, only just want to give credit where it's due)

The customer service is great in person. They are informative and helpful. The selection of bikes is great. I had a minor problem with the bike I bought from them and they were very dedicated to getting it fixed as quick as possible. Just don't try communicate with them by e-mail. They only replied to one of my messages.

High end store. If you like spending way more money this is your place. Shopped around for bike tune-up was quoted $75 outside of area, this place wanted over $200 for same job. The place has high quality. Nothing for the regular Joe that's for sure. It lacks any of the feel from a community bike shop. No heart.

When I got back into cycling four years ago I checked out a couple bike stores before ending up at Cap's. I had come in with a particular model in mind but the employee urged me to try a couple other options, including cheaper choices, to be sure I ended up with a bike I liked. Since then I've added another two to my collection, both from Cap's, and every experience has been as equally excellent.

When I purchased my tri-bike from them two years ago I booked a fitting on their Guru system and the guy I worked with painstakingly went through every possible variable of bike adjustment to find what was perfect for me. I had just come off a bad knee injury so despite having to take repeated breaks, and extending the appointment probably an extra 30 minutes longer then it should have been, there was never an ounce of annoyance.

I'm sure there are other great bike shops in the Vancouver area but after the three purchasing experiences I've had at Cap's I have zero interest in shopping around.

I just can't trust these guys. Twice I've talked to salespeople there and twice have gotten bad (wrong) information.
First time was a couple of years ago when I was shopping for a new trail bike. A guy tells me that SLX is top-of-the-line. No, it isn't, and never was. Needless to say, I bought my bike elsewhere.
Then, a couple of days ago I popped in to get some chain cleaning fluid (only because it's the only bike shop close to my house). The guy tells me that the Park Tools fluid gets diluted 3:1 so the bottle will last a long time. Wrong again: there's nothing on the bottle about diluting it, and if you look it up on Park Tools' website it tells you to use it full strength.
So, it's two strikes and you're out for me, Cap's.

The customer service at this Westwood Cycle is absolutely terrible. I came into the store this morning planning to purchase a new bike instead I was greeted with revolting customer service. I was in the store for at least 15 minutes and no employees offered their assistance. That would be totally acceptable if the store was really busy, but at the time I was the only customer in the store and there were two employees talking to each other with their hands in their pockets. When I walked up to the front desk to ask for help I had to wait another 10 minutes because the person was on the phone, and no other employees approached me to offer their assistance while I was waiting. This is not how a local business should behave nor how they should treat their customers. I was thoroughly disappointed by my experience at this westwood cycle location and would not recommend anyone coming to this store.

Cap's Westwood Cycle in Port Coquitlam was my go-to bike shop while living on the west coast. The staff is always friendly, eager to help, and very knowledgeable about their products and matching the needs and preferences of consumers. I'm still lovin' the cross bike I purchased with the help of Evan, the store manager, last year. He took the time to give me a customized fitting and honed in on the perfect bike for my riding style. I highly recommend this store.

This store is by far my favorite bike shop! From the eager to help and knowledgeable staff to the friendly cashiers. Evan and his team at Westwood Cycle Port Coquitlam are a fantastic bunch!
When I first set foot in the door, I knew zero about bicycles other than knowing that I wanted one. I have been visiting the store frequently as I add more things to my bike and gain more knowledge. I've already been back for bike #2!
Most recently I was taught how to remove both of my wheels, change a flat tire, and how to clip in/out of my new bike pedals. I've love that they took the time to show me all of that!
In just a short amount of time, their knowledge and expertise have transformed me into a more confident cyclist and I look forward to visiting them again soon.

Thanks team!

We went in looking for a bike for my brother and found excellent service. Allix was very knowledgeable and provided lots of feedback and information that my brother didn't get from his own hours of research. The mechanics did a professional and speedy installation of his fenders and other accessories, 10/10 would come back.

I went there not entirely certain what type of bike I wanted. I haven't biked in a few years and was torn between getting a road bike, a cyclocross, or a mountain bike. The staff member Jamie was extremely patient, and very informative, and he allowed me to try out 4 bikes. There was no pressure to buy, and he was just interested in helping me find something I liked. After trying them out I decided on a cyclocross and I'm extremely happy with the purchase. They gave me a discount on accessories for life as well. I highly recommend this store, the selection is great, the prices are solid, and zero pressure to buy. I would recommend it to my friends and family, great sales staff.

There are not enough good things i can say about my experience purchasing a new bike at caps. I hadn't bought a new bike in years and was riding one that was much to small for me. I went in and browsed their selection; I had a cruiser style bike in mind. The friendly sales associate Dan came by and explained to me the differences in models and what you are paying for at each level. He also explained that they had more models and the website that could easily be ordered in. I went home and did some research. I came back another day and was able to test ride multiple styles. The bike style Dan had originally suggested would be best for my needs was the one i ended up purchasing. I never felt pressured into purchasing anything. They even suggested I think about it and come back. I absolutely love my new bike!!!! I went with the Electra Amsterdam Royal 8i. I purchased a few accessories which the service department installed for me at no extra cost. The first year of bike servicing is free, I have brought my bike in a few times since and had the gears and brakes tightened. I had an issue with one of my baskets and they fixed it in a very timely matter. The service department was extremely helpful and friendly i was able to ride in and ride out in a very short period of time. I would recommend caps to anyone. I would never buy some cheapy Walmart bike again. Although a new bike can be pricey your are absolutely getting quality at Caps. I now ride more than i drive!

I described to him what I would be using the bike for and he educated me on the different models of bikes that could potentially suit my needs. We went on a test ride that led to the purchase of my bike. Jamie was very professional and knowledgable. His expertise is greatly appreciated and I'm very happy with my purchase. I will continue to shop at Cap's Westwood because of the great service and product.

I've promoted Cap's Westwood to the role of my local bike shop (LBS).

When I was shopping for pedals the big co-op store downtown had my preferred parts. Cap's didn't carry the same brand, but ordered it in and beat the other shop's online price by $5.

Works for me. Saved me a trip plus I get to shop local and still get a good deal.

Do you remember the show "Cheers", when Norm walked in everyone would yell his name? This is what I feel like when I walk into Westwood Cycle -- like family. I am posting today because I had a great experience and thought I'd share it. A year or so ago I bought a floor pump From Westwood Cycle with a lifetime warranty. This week I started having problems with the pressure gauge, so I took the pump into Evan to ask for help. Evan took the pump, said he'd get a replacement on its way, and then handed me a loaner pump to use while waiting for the replacement. THAT's service!

Really, with all of the positive reviews here, I have to wonder about the attitude of the very few who are so negative.

I had a very positive experience at this shop. I was helped by Allix who spent more than 30 minutes with me finding the best saddle for my needs and fitting my new Trek bike on the Guru machine. And this was on a busy Saturday with a bike that I purchased at the Maple Ridge location. The Guru fit setup is well worth your time, whether you're trying to decide on a bike that fits or want your new bike to fit properly.

The place to purchase your bike if you value good customer service at competitive prices. Jamie was great with us and took care of us, engaging with my son while respecting my budget for his bike. We liked it so much that we went back 3 weeks later and got a bike rack and another bike for my wife.

Thank you! And keep it up!

I got my beloved Brompton (an awesome folding bike) from Cap's Westwood Cycle. Initially there were some confusions of my Brompton set up, but Evan (the store manager) has resolved it very quickly. Being very proactive and had gone the extra mile to even drop by my house to pick up my Brompton for reconfiguration. That's just first class service!

Subsequently, my Brompton need some other adjustments. So I brought it back to Evan. He made the adjustments for me very quickly and didn't even charge me for it. What a wonderful service!

I'll highly recommend the store and especially Evan if you are looking for an awesome Bromption. He is an expert on Brompton and will certainly serve you well until you're fully satisfied!

Great experience. Went looking for a specific bike for our 8 year old daughter. Bike was not on the floor, so Jamie helped by having the bike built the same day for us. When the bike didn't work out, he gave us other options and was helpful but not pushy. Jamie went over the bike with us, helped fit a helmet and answered all our questions. Felt good about our purchase and will definitely return to Cap's Westwood Cycle in PoCo.

I'll never buy from this store again.

I'll never buy from this store again.

I used to be a regular customer, buying a bike, services, clothing and parts.

When I entered the store one day, the lady owner had kind of a distressed look on her face. But then again, she always does, so I didn't think much of it. I didn't realize it was approaching 6 o' clock and the store was about to close. - I was friendly and told her precisely what I needed: The same shoe that I had previously purchased at her shop, but a size bigger. It didn't take 5 minutes for her to make a 150.- sale. Yet when I asked if I could quickly switch the cleats she answered all the mechanics have already gone home. I explained that all I need is a screwdriver, but no, she refused to lend me one!

Outrageous. I was simply too stunned to do the right thing and leave her with her shoes happily ever after instead of handing her the money. But for sure it was the last item she sold to me.

This is congruent with stories I hear from my friends. The owners of this store don't care about customers. They're only lucky because there's hardly any competition out here.

I bought a clipless pedal in this store and paid over $100 with 2 other accessories, and I asked for free installation of the pedal, but the employees refused to install it unless I pay $10 service charge. Next day, I went to BSP bike in downtown to buy a grease for $12, and asked if I can borrow a pedal wrench to install my pedals. Surprisingly, the mechanic in BSP bike installed the pedal herself for free.. So I should ask .. which shop is royal to its customers? Definitely not the one who can't provide a small service to a client.

After not owning a bike for many years, I decided ...

After not owning a bike for many years, I decided it was time to get back into it. I am the type of person that does a lot of research online before making a purchase, so had already determined what I figured was the best bike for my needs.

Due to the crazy wind storm and prior engagements, I wasn't able to get to the store until near closing. Despite it being late on a Sunday, Dan was happy to give me a hand, showing me the bike I was interested in, explaining the pros and cons it has, and showing me some comparable similar models.

After settling on the bike, he continued to assist me through all the accessories, and was more informative rather than pushy, explaining what the different tiers of product were, and why I might benefit from things that were above the entry level, or, conversely, why I shouldn't bother going beyond entry level for some things.

As it was near the end of the day, Dan asked if I would be able to pick up the bike the next day, giving them time to tune it and add the accessories. I don't live in PoCo, and had made a special trip out from Vancouver, so this wasn't the best (my fault for coming in near the end of the day). Dan coordinated with Ryan in the shop to expedite it and I was able to leave with the bike the same day! It was very much appreciated.

All in all, a very positive experience, which I'm sure will continue with the included services during the first year.

Cap's Westwood Cycle...where to start. Currently, ...

Cap's Westwood Cycle...where to start. Currently, I am in my mid-life however as a child I spent many years biking on BMX (parks and pipe) and Road bikes (clocking tons of km). After too long of a sabbatical away from biking my 2.5 year old asked for a bike. I began thinking of all of the benefits of being on a bike and got excited at the idea of peddling again. So, I hit the internet and after seeing that there was a world of difference, I took to the streets. I visited bike shop after bike shop, about 15 in total. I noticed a trend, none of the sales staff seemed to be listening. They seemed more interested in listening for a minute and slinging what they had in stock. Then, on a whim, I stopped in at Cap's Westwood Bike Shop in Port Coquitlam; I ended up speaking to Evan. After carefully listening to me and asking pertinent questions, showing me he was listening to his potential customer, he started asking me even more questions. At first, I found this odd but I then realized that he was trying to find out more of where his customer was really coming from before even making a recommendation. I should add that it's sad when being treated like a customer is such a pleasant surprise. Evan then sent me home bike less, being a little overwhelmed I went with a wealth of information and things to think about. I returned the next day only to find that Evan was not working, enter Jamie, who along with all of the staff (especially Dan, Ryan, Nick, Emily, and Allix) at Cap's were very helpful. Here, however, is where it gets interesting, in asking some of the same and some new ones as well, I found all of the information I was getting was technically the same as what Evan had given me. Wow! Could it be? No way! Had I finally arrived at an organization, bike or otherwise, where people could have their own opinions based on their experiences while providing the same information technically?!? Yup! It seems so. In addition, I had been comparing the information that they had given me to friends who have been riding their entire lives (30+ years here in BC) and through a bike mechanic who is a friend of a friend at another leading shop in the lower mainland.

So, I purchased a bike...now this is what I want to emphasize to anyone reading this. It's not "IF" you fall, but when you do, how you behave when you get back up, even if you were right. So when I took delivery of the bike. I got it home and rode it in the lane way next to my house then put it away with a big smile on my face. Sadly, being bit by Mr. Murphy and his laws, my work spiked up and I could not ride for several days after taking delivery of my bike. Then, the spike subsided, I had made a plan to go for a ride, I was super excited, it was like new bike day all over again! I went into the garage only to find my rear tire was flat, (enter where most idiots jump on the internet and start flaming a bike shop), so I pumped it up and went for a ride. Two days later I showed up at Cap's to pick up some stuff that I had ordered, I was as asked how the first ride was. A little annoyed, I explained my work situation and how I found the rear tire. They calmly explained that there is a reasonable explanation for this and told me that I had to ride my bike for a little more. So I did, I took it for a long ride and it has been great since!

Since then I have found more and more of the same, things are going to happen and as a reborn rider I am building expectations based on these events, I know before "FREAKING OUT", I can feel comfortable going to my safety net and finding out why and what to expect moving forward. In addition, I no longer feel the need to go and check on things they tell me but rather I feel the need to recommend them to my friends. Let it be said, I do not work at Cap's Westwood Cycle, I did not know anyone there before walking in the front door that day and I do not know any of the people there outside of work or their friends; although I hope to one day.

Great products and great service

Great products and great service

Purchased a helmet online and I didn't realize it was final sale.

However, they still let me exchange it for another helmet that fits.

The guy helping me was very informative and helpful.

Will be coming back for sure!

I went there because a friend of mine was nice enough to give me his old bike. I ask the bike service men to just give me a basic wheel set and tune up and that I'm completely new to riding but keep the cost down which rightfully everyone wants. While I was shopping for gear I came back asked okay what's the damage $800 was the quote he also said the derailer bolt was gone which he didn't tightened back on. It's safe to say I walked right out of the store. My friend who knows a lot about cycling said that's outrageous well I trust him more than that store. Judge them for yourself but that's my experience. Maybe that was the right quote but it sure seems out there.

I came in today to get help with my Ruby Specilized Road Bike. I'm a beginner with limited bike knowledge which can feel a bit intimidating when your new to this hobbie.

Every staff member from Ryan in service along with 3 other members of the team who helped educate me on bikes, locks, shoes and even how to look stylish with glasses and to remove my visor off my Helmet.

I walked in today feeling nervous and walked out feeling super grateful for all the genuine assistance. I have worked in similar customer service industries for 26 years. It has been a long time since I had an experience like I did today.

Every staff member seemed happy to be there.

Keep up the amazing everyone. You totally made my day today Thank you.

I went into caps a couple of months ago to get a t...

I went into caps a couple of months ago to get a tune up on my bike. I hadn't used it for about 15 years so I knew it was going to need an overhaul. The service gentlemen that I dealt with was great. He listed all the things I should get done and then listed the things that were an absolute so that I could save a bit of money which was nice. During the time that my bike was getting fixed I purchased three helmets, and some other accessories that I needed to get me started so all in all I spent around $600. When I went to pick up my bike it was still really dirty (as it was sitting for so long) and I guess I assumed that they would clean it considering the amount I paid to get a tune up? That was disappointing. I then brought in my chariot with my baby and dog and realized that I needed to attach the bolt to the wheel so I could actually tow it home and asked a different service guy if he could attach it for me. He then asked me to pay an extra $15 to attach the bolt as he said there was a lot of labour involved. I watched him attach the bolt and it literally took him 3 minutes. After spending the amount I had, I feel like he was taking advantage of my situation realizing that I had no other choice because I could not push the chariot and my bike at the same time as I had walked there. The sales staff were very nice and helpful but this one service guy ruined my experience and for this reason I will never go back.

I called in just to see what was out there and spoke with Alex. A few minutes later he had me pinned to my literal dream bike that was way way outta my price range. He found a way to get the bike in my price range and I have never been as excited and happy withany retail staff. I would recommend Alex to absolutely anyone!

Nice modern store with a lot of stock.

Nice modern store with a lot of stock.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, I needed to return my recent bicycle purchase to them the next day. Even though the bicycle had never left the store (I was picking it up next day because of assembly times) they refused to take it back! Their best offer was a hefty 20% restocking fee on a bike which never went out their front door!!!
The owner kept pointing to the fine print on the bicycle sales contract that there were no returns. The bicycle sales contract itself leads you to believe that you are agreeing to "wear a helmet" and "ride in a responsible manner." The part about about no returns hides on the side of the page away from where it would normally be read.

So, be sure you actually love the bike before you buy one from Caps Westwood.

Friendly store that has a wide range of up to date stock. What a good family bike store should be. Edit May 2017 I upgraded this review to 5* because several times in the last few months Evan and Dan have really gone "above and beyond" to help me out. Kudos.

I'm not sure what their customer service approach ...

I'm not sure what their customer service approach is, but here's a tip. When a customer walks into a store and makes eye contact with not one, or two or even three employees, one would expect a greeting or "Hi, can I help you?" This isn't the first time this has happened to me at this store, but it will be my last, as I will never set foot in this store again. I will travel the extra distance to go to the other Cap's stores such as the Port Moody, Maple Ridge, or even the Burnaby location where I have had great customer service experiences in the past. Caps Coquitlam could sure use some tips from their sister stores on how to treat a customer.
Backdrop:
I went to the Maple Ridge Caps store to get a bike for my son transferred to the Coquitlam location, as the bike was not built yet and was closing soon. (BTW if you're in that area, the Maple Ridge Caps location has great customer service). In hindsight, I should of just gone back there to pick up the bike. When I go to pick up the bike for my son at the Coquitlam location, this is where my experience turns south. My son and I weren't even acknowledged as we walk in with two employees behind the counter. Another employee (maybe the owner who was an older lady) walked right past us and not even a peep. I had to go out of my way to get the attention of another employee. At this point I am irritated and ready to leave, but my son really wanted the bike. Now, this is what got me. As my son tries to sit on the bike, out of the corner of my eye I catch this employee who was helping us look skyward as if we were inconveniencing him. Even though, we walked in there with the intent to purchase the bike (which my son really loved), I had to leave without buying it as I am not about to spend money in a store where you are treated like #$&@. I will however, thank them for allowing me to use this experience as a teaching point for my son as to how a customer should NOT be treated when walking into a store. Hopefully their customer service improves when they turn into an exclusive Trek store.
