I was with my fiance looking around the Bale Chevrolet lot recently when a salesman walked up and started asking him questions. It would have been fine except he hardly acknowledged me and acted as though he (fiance)was the decision maker. This was mildly offensive, but not enough to keep us away when they were having a decent deal. When we came back, we agreed that if they pulled anything sexist again, it would be a hard no. The second time, a different salesman had already taken our financial info (I, a woman, make more money than my male fiance) when he joked about divorcing one of several of his former wives because she made more money than he did! The same guy at one point told my fiance to go think on things for a minute, then handed me the keys to a car we were checking and told me to "go play with buttons". I was pretty livid after two hours of that kind of language.
They did all the things that make people hate car salesmen. First, they told us we weren't approved for the car. Then, they told us, "Oh wait, you're approved, but not for the rate you wanted." Then, it was a rate we could afford at the high end of our budget. Then, it was slightly affordable. Then, it was finally affordable. Sounds okay enough, but each one of those times we were told that was absolutely the lowest they could go until we started to walk away. Again, the same harassment that makes everyone hate car salesmen. We left literally feeling harassed (and exhausted).
The next day, I learned things were worse than I realized. It turns out, the salesman performed hard inquiries on our credit without permission enough to drop my credit score, but not just the normal few points from a car sales person's inquiry. I'm afraid I won't get approved at all at the next place I go. Bale Chevrolet destroyed my credit beyond what I've heard from anywhere else. I've been asking everyone I know. It's an alarming amount, and I'm learning that it's absolutely abnormal. I'm still trying to get through the MANY disputes. We were informed of only one inquiry, and were not at all aware he was doing hard inquiries for our auto insurance as well. It was totally wreckless.
Needless to say, we didn't buy the car. And we could have. They lost a sale because of terrible service. They need to make this right. (Yes, I realize that will never happen.)
In the meantime, do yourself a favor. Stay far, far away from these sexist con men.
