Trafalgar Square if the sun is up in the sky. Then is a good place to stay for a bit of time
Great Art collection by the whole world. Wonderful place with splendid paints.
Beautiful architecture and surrounded by beautiful gardens. Worth the visit
The top museums in the world. Do a docent tour and immerse yourself in all its glory.
National gallery was a joy to visit. my family and I are big fans of Van Gogh, we where able to see some his paintings. The collection this gallery are very stunning. Recommend it.
Half term trip.
Lots of paintings to see.
Not modern art.
everyone who lives in london or who comes for a visit gallery
We went to see the Taylor Wessing portrait prize and really enjoyed it. The rest of the gallery was varied and there were temporary exhibitions on that we liked. However, the cafe was really average with burned coffee and I expected the gift shop to have better quality objects in rather than a load of tat and only a few things relating to the portrait prize.
The Leanordo exhibition is pretty disappointing bring .. would have rather watched a documentary. The Gaugin is excellent however.
Awesome, great staff-wonderful collection, especially old masters-surprisingly large collection of Dutch Old Masters (including Emmanuel De Witte) in gallery with Vermeer.
Lots of food options,
Tip2: enter Sainsbury wing, largest gift shop and more convenient.
Top3: lots of accessible toilets.
Went in to get out of the rain. Didn't really care to look at the paintings.
Great collection, great location. Visited Monet and Architecture and it was very well organised, great collection, will definitely recommend to see it before it's finished
Excellent collection of arts, can easily spend 2-3 days here
It's a must when visiting London: getting in is for free, for everyone. Some exhibitions (temporary ones) ask for a fee that varies depending on the artist and nature of the exhibition, but they're never too expensive.
It's worth checking the web site before coming to know how much will you be spending and how long will you need to see everything you want to see. I'd subscribe to the mailing list if you're very much into art.
You can buy tickets online but it's very easy to buy in person too - I'd say online saves you a queue so it's probably worth doing.
A fabulous Gallery!!
I only intended to spend 2 hours looking around here, but I was there until closing time.
I have to say the artists and the paintings
Completely captured my emotions and I would definitely go back and back again.
A beautiful building, with toilet facilities for people with a disability's.
I would recommend it, but don't take demands of money from anyone working there in the entry!
Spent a few hours in the presence of great art from a whole range of eras. The gallery is well managed and is currently open even with the current covid issues. Masks are required during the entire visit and booking entrance is best done on the website.
Will visit again in the future, as we noticed there are different exhibitions at times.
This place is worth thousands of visits! Most pleasant staff (although some totally clueless), special thanks to security Laura. Loved it, will be returning.
Real art of a Historic Nature. Epic experience. Art lovers, take the day.
Sainsbury's Wing is big, newer building just West of main. Contains galleries, theatre, restaurant, bar & cafe, school rooms etc. Huge space taken up by very large staircase and big shop. Galleries are good, with nice lighting & cool environment. Tends to host special exhibitions, for a fee.
A Great location for this "World Class" Art Collection.
The incredible location of the National Art Gallery is "Trafalgar Square"... and its wide/diverse collection by some of the World's most renowned artists are well curated and displayed. Unlike most other "national art galleries", entrance is free.. and open for viewing 361 days a year! The Gallery has been open for almost 200 years... and the collection covers a broad range-- from the mid 13th century to the 21st century. It has earned TripAdvisor's highly coveted "Traveler's Choice" designation. In addition to the collection, there is a wonderful (affordable) restaurant as well as a "Gift Shoppe". One's enjoyment will be greatest if one carefully plans what are the "priorities" to see... and how to access them.
I hope that this Review has been helpful.
Remember there are more than 2000 paintings here, so even if you give little time (say 5 min only)to each one, it will take days to complete it.
So plan accordingly, don't rush if that is your goal.
If you are first timer, there will be many more places to visit, so select specifics from catalog available downstairs and
If you love arts this place suit you
Easy to get there
This place is a national treasure. Fantastic to see historic portraits alongside contemporary works. Decent cafe, great restaurant. Heartily recommend for Londoners and visitors.
No fee to get in, only an optional donation. The art is beautiful and should be on everyone's list of places to visit in London.
I'm sure it's great if you're into looking at paintings. There sure are a lot of them, the building is kept clean and open. There's a coffee shop downstairs but they don't let you carry the coffee around the building even if it has a lid, which is understandable. The outside is the best part of the experience - it's a very nice plaza area.
The National gallery - place which you must visit at list once a year!
This place has some of the world's finest works of art. A must see.
My wife had wanted to visit for years and it was our first destination. Not my kind of thing but very impressed. I did like the the paintings of people like Liam Gallagher mixed in amongst the lines of the Tudors.
A great museum for art-lovers!! The headphones tour is great and gives you lots of details on the various art pieces. The entry is free but you'll need to pay for the headphones and wardrobe (very cheap) and some of the temporary galleries. It's a great place to spend the day at.
One of the great galleries of Europe, it covers most art movements up until the present with the emphasis on portraits. Not endless like others, but 2 hours should be allowed for to enjoy what it has to offer
Superb. Not much else to say really. If you love art, then you need to come here.
One of my favorite art museums in the world. It's so cool just strolling around and seeing famous paintings you've only seen a hundred times before in books and pictures.
Free entrance on Sunday, excellent ambiance, wonderful paintungs
It's big, it's beautiful, it's free, it's a National Treasure! With coffee shops and gift shops. My particular interest is Impressionist painting and this gallery has numerous exampled. The good thing is the collection is rotated so there is always something new. And when you leave the building by the front door you have an elevated view of Trafalgar Square. Yes, I love it!
Beautiful paintings and good service ,and great food
This was an amazing experience. The collection of art is admirable. A must visit for an art lover.
What is not to like, lots of iconic paintings, great art space, in the heart of London, cafe not that cheap though, extensive shop, give your eyes a treat.
Nearest tube Charing Cross.
It doesn't matter if you like art or not, you've to go.
There's stuff for every type of people
Amazing. Great collection of classic arts in central London
Must see. Never get bored having faces stare at me.
I went to see the Madter of Light exhibition which is based on the paintings of the Spanish painter, Sorolla. It was electric!
An amazing collection of paintings in the heart of london. Beautiful refurbishment, wonderful art, great media center for online browsing of galleries. this museum is literally like traveling through time by looking at paintings. it might take about 4 hours, but they'll be time very well spent. one of the main highlights is the small, dimly lit room where one can admire da vinci's sketches.
One of the favorite spots in town with something to offer for all art lovers .. .. pretty nice collection of impressionist works .
The building is massive and well maintained. It holds paintings that are considered the zenith of talent in Art History. Paintings from masters such as DaVinci, Caravaggio, Bottecelli, Rubens, Bernini, Rembrant, Raphael and David are displayed here. Many works are held here to be appreciated and you would definitely need to return to see them all. It has as much security as the MET in NYC, where there is an officer in EVERY ROOM watching you. The guided tours you must pay for and prices are available on the Gallery's website. It is accessible to disabled patrons and has a lift (elevator) available for wheelchairs, strollers and people using walking sticks. Disabled patrons also have their own restrooms to use. Admittance is free but please do donate. The treasures inside are meant to be preserved so that future generations can be as fortunate as we are to witness them.
Amazing! Free to visit piece such as Van Gogh s Sunflowers and more. A must visit museum in the heart of London.
Whats great? The art and the dining room ( its 5 star for location, menu, price, staff and ambience). The stressful entrance hall experience undermined the good of everything else. Queuing for a ticket is to be expected but was unacceptably protracted by inefficiency, resulting in a grumbling bad humoured queue, unhelped by unwelcoming, officious staff when one eventually reached the top. I felt like an object on a conveyer belt, right through, except for the dining hall. The only staff who smiled and looked at me were in the dining room and the man in the wardrobe who returned my coat. Great art in a joyless environment.
Best place to visit in london, huge gallary... With world famous artists paintings..
Absolutely loved the painting descriptions. Unlike most other museums they led you in the motives and background of the painter and told the story of how the painting came to be. Other art museums directors need to go study here before writing their plaques. Marvelous.
Well laid out and easy to find your way around. An incredible selection of paintings from all centuries worldwide. You could quite easily spend a few days in there!!
