A world-leading gallery that earns it's 5 stars by virtue of the great artworks alone. It could do better to explain the evolving history of art to newcomers, but for pure aesthetic experience it's exceptional.
The facilities are decent. Some areas can get crowded but the quite rooms are a haven of peace in the city.

I love the National Gallery. However, the Leonardo da Vinci exhibition shows how horrible their restorations are done. The virgin of the rocks used to be devine- it is a real shame! Please stop restoring!

Still a must go in the UK. Do book in advance, free entry, but quite essential. Go 15 mins before booking time to queue up. Mask not required inside. The national gallery provides lots of hand sanitizer and toilets are well equipped to handle. Currently it's fairly empty inside so you will have quite a privacy and silence you always want in a museum. Go see it now!

I love the Biblical paintings yet the portraits are phenomenal too :)

I could easily visit every week and never get bored :)

A fabulous collection with excellent specific exhibitions. Main gallery is free which should have a small charge as, for example, Le Louvre. The street-scape in front needs organising as at times there are too many "performers", some taking up large areas and some too loud.

Masterpieces housed in a beautiful neoclassical building on Trafalgar Square. A must for all those fond of art. A lot of masterpieces gathered together, spanning some 6 centuries of European art history. Under one roof one can find Titian, Rembrandt, Caravaggio, the local favorite Turner, Cezanne, Monet, van Dyck, Rubens, van Gogh, and the four Great Italians - Michelangelo, Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello. One has to return many times in order to be able to grasp all the masterpieces housed in this magnificent gallery !

Not really that great of a spot. I thought it would be a lot better than it was. To be honest kind of got board walking through all the rooms but I took some picture of all the funny faces in the photos.

It's an amazing place to visit regularly as a Londoner or when visiting London as a traveller.

The highlights are well known paintings of famous artisits, too many to list. But amongst my favourites: Sunsets by Turner, Enlightenment paintings from Italy and of course Van Gogh and other impressionists.

TL;DR must visit.

Like a rabbit Warren of rooms definitely need to spend a long time there unless you just want to cherry pick what you see.
Limited food selection so bring your own if possible and definitely if you are bringing children.

One of my favourite places on Prince's Street. Always a great selection of work on display and the current pop-up cafe on the lower level us a little place to escape the hustle & bustle of Edinburgh centre.

The gallery itself is good but please change the security. Shouting at guests to stand here or there is completely outrageous at an art gallery. It would make sense at a nightclub but please have some decorum when working in these spaces

Everywhere you look there is beauty. And the beauty is captivating, and you feel small and giant and protagonist and spectator. All at the same time. You enter the mind of the artist and, for one moment, become its confident.

I am not really into art & this visit re-established this feeling however the building is beautiful and majestic which I did enjoy immensely overall not for me but well worth seeing the portraits are over several floors even when busy you get great views and time to view and ponder the information about the artist & subject are informative and concise

Fantastic place to be inspired as an artist. A mix of ages among the tourists, practising art students, school trips and ladies that lunch. You can loose your self in the wonder of how Stubbs produced that realistic stallion rearing up in a time when photography wasn't available or settle in a Chesterfield lounger to gaze through the woodland of Pissarro family home in France. My advice is to go, enjoy the art, people watching and tangible buzz in the atmosphere.
