I've grown up going to the games I've grown up to the bad things that have happened here but what people fail to talk about is how great the campus has improved and is in general they have so many amazing things there and yet people to over look this. It's one of the prettiest campus ( #1 actually) great food ( one of the top) one of the top healthiest campuses. I LOVE the campus and people everyone makes you feel like home

A GREAT PLACE TO PURSUE YOUR EDUCATION IF U WANT TO BE A ENGINEER, MYSELF PERSONALLY AM NOT A STUDENT HERE, BUT I'VE SPENT PLENTY OF DAYS & STILL TILL THIS DAY WORK ON TECH GROUNDS HOUSEKEEPING &/OR WORKING THE DINING HALLS, THE LANDSCAPING IS BEAUTIFUL IN THE SUMMER, MOST OF THE BOSSES & SUPERVISORS ARE REALLY NICE & COOL, WHICH MAKES THE JOBS A BREEZE, ITS FULL OF ENERGY & THE KIDS OF COURSE ARE WHAT MAKES THE GROUNDS...BUT OTHER THEN THAT EVERYTHING IS NORMAL & UP TO STANDARDS AS A WELL KNOWN INSTITUTE SHOULD BE. GO SEE FOR YOURSELF WHETHER YOU GO TO SCHOOL THERE OR GET A TEMPORARY OR FULL TIME POSITION!....

Go Hokies!!

If you are a minority, don't go VT. If you are out of state, don't go to VT. And if your career choice requires any kind of networking in college, then don't go to VT.
As a foreign student, I was at VT from 2012 to 2014. It's was a nightmare. The department pays penny to let Phd students to teach a lot of your classes. You will hardly find any support group while you encounter difficulties to adjust culture shock and adopt new life in college. You will not make any friends outside of your own race. There is not enough academic advisor to assist you before u get into your major. What I have felt at VT was that you are just someone with a ID and who is paying full tuition.
Also the rural location limits what you can do outside of class, yes, it's a beautiful little town. But it's not close to anything. I image gmu would take over VT as more popular choice amount many.

If you're black (African/American), expect racism. If I were you I would go to an open minded school like VCU or George Mason where there is real diversity Or an HBCU for that matter. 3% black population is just not enough and I get why this schools AA population has been declining. I'm telling you! It's difficult to build a community that supports each other with 3% of the students being black. We're very scattered. You're going to feel very much like a dot on a white paper. Out of place in most of your classes. It's hard to make friends here also because I think half the students have a lot of prejudice without even knowing you. I've been very depressed my entire stay here. I went from being a straight A student to barely passing my classes. At first I thought there was something wrong with me but It's just this horrid school. If you're a black parent reading this review, Please don't send your child here. It's better for a student to be at a place they feel welcomed and happy rather than a big school with a good name in the middle of nowhere that also has racial pressure. This is not a party school. There is little social life. The cops shut down parties, even though we're in the middle of nowhere and there is literally nothing else to do. There are several stories of cops racially profiling students, but that's probably at every school. While I was on campus, I saw three confederate flags in the dorm room of students (those are just the ones I saw, I can only imagine how many more there are). I don't want to infringe upon their right to hang those flags up high as they want in their room but that pretty much lets you know what their mindset is around here. Also don't get too excited about the sports here... We've had a terrible football and basketball program since I was a freshman and I'm about to graduate this winter. Hokies got great school spirit and food though. If you're into school spirit and food, this is the school for you. This is just my experience. Hope you have a better one if you choose to come here.

Excellent campus. The buildings are beautiful and made with the exclusive hokie stone. I loved the church on campus, very nice. The bridge is a must see and great for photos. The dining hall on campus, west end, was so good. People are out riding bikes, studying, platings sports. It's a perfect college environment.

HUGE campus. A lot of walking. People here are so nice, and i feel like it really resembles the hokie spirit and people live up to the virginia tech motto "ut prosim." This was my second time being on this campus ever, the first time was to attend my cousins graduation last year and this year going to campus was to take care of some of my own personal student stuff. I feel honored to have been accepted here as a transfer student.

Love it!!! Beautiful School in a beautiful area of the Blue Ridge Mountains! Located in a great area, with lots of amenities nearby, with a shout-out to Blacksburg, and then Christiansburg, Radford, Salem, and Roanoke, VA... along with many other great small towns. It's always worth the money to get a great education, while surrounded with beautiful scenery and landscaping, such as Southwest VA. The School offers many different choices and fields of study, with top-notch state-of-the-art equipment, not to mention all the great sports...Go "Hokies"!!!

I attended from August 2003 to August 2006 and was a transfer student from a community college. Nobody was friendly and seemed very standoffish. Seemed like one giant click so very lonely time for me that's for sure. I also chose to major in engineering initially and turns out that wasn't a good fit. Tried to switch majors to college of business and was told that I needed a 3.7 GPA to do an internal transfer (mind you that the college of business requires only a 3.0 for students transferring from another school). I ended up having to settle on a Psychology degree just to graduate. Basically very bureaucratic school full of unfriendly snobbish students and faculty. Based on my experience I would never recommend!

Although I'm not a graduate of VT, it has amazing research programs.

The town reminded me of the university town of Ann Arbor, MI. Not as expansive, but good stores, nightlife and a huge football stadium. Quite far from cities like Richmond (3.5 hours) and DC (4 hours), which are perhaps the nearest big cities and big airports around.

Located in the heart of the Shenandoah valley, good places to hike and camp around.

Fun fact - the Roanoke Star near VT is the world's largest freestanding star.

It really feels like home. Great football, high quality education and professors, the students are down-to-earth, friendly, and welcoming. Great school-town relationship. The campus is BEAUTIFUL and there are lots of great outdoor things to do in the area. Also, the food is amazing. These were the best 4 years of my life. Liberal arts may not be as strong as engineering/science, but they've been doing a lot to improve that recently, such as by building a new center for the arts, etc. Also if you don't like small towns than it may not be for you, but honestly it NEVER felt like I was "in the middle of nowhere."

Perfect. I've been going to Virginia Tech since I was 5 years old. I'm 17 now and it has always been my dream to go here although my grades have never been able to reach there standards I recommend this University to everyone. All the students I have interacted with are the kindest people, the school spirit is unbeatable and the school atmosphere and downtown is perfect. The professors are amazing and respect the students fully my sister and cousin are attending right now and my mom, father and other cousin attended this school. It is the best university you will ever know. Apply, attend, accomplish your goals. This college will not let you down.

One of the most beautiful campuses in the USA. Consistent Hokie stone theme throughout most of the campus. Tucked away in southwestern Virginia in large town. Surrounded by nature with rural areas and small towns.

You will enjoy VT-Undergraduate if:

You will enjoy VT-Undergraduate if:
-You like rural places
-From Virginia
-Want to spend $1000 a year of dues for frat/sorority
-Have family who will support you financially (tuition/fees, housing, food, clothing)
-Like partying
-Care about football team
-Want to make lifetime friends in undergrad
-Dont care about large classrooms

You will NOT enjoy VT-Undergraduate if:
-You want to be in an urban place with ample resources
-Network with graduate students/professional schools
-Out of state or country
-Not enough money
-Prefer small classrooms and mentorship

Although regardless of which school anyone goes to, if they know how to talk to people, they will make the best of their resources in life.

My expectations were high,im a computer type guy and i was satisfied. My education payed off well with this school and this helped me get a job as a computer engineer at a very nice place.I work with cubes,i miss this place in a way, people there are nice and i just love that it got what i wanted,I was always a computer guy.Only dislike i have about it is some of the food.Gave it a 4 not because of that but no place is perfect

It's cheap! As always, you get what you pay for! It appears I'm paying people to give me tests and arbitrarily assign me grades!

The best professors are paid the least. The worst professors are paid the most. Professor pay is based on how much research money the professor brings to the school, not teaching. That makes perfect sense because teaching is not important in a school.

If you can afford it, go to a good school!
