There is a lot of magnificient work of art in this place. However after coming for years with my kids it becomes a bit boring for me. The shops are very interesting and the cafes serve good food. The do put up good exhibitions which may not be free.

Might have been the jet lag but the place kind of exhausted me. Some incredible stuff (Rembrandt, Rubens, Turner, van Gogh and other impressionists) but way too bloody huge to see in even a half day, way too many biblical Renaissance scenes, a veritable Ark of tourists and crowds swamping the big name stuff, and the rooms are confusingly interconnected. Still worh a visit if you're near Trafalgar.

I visit The National Gallery very often, particularly on my days off. It is a great experience to be a witness of these remarkable works of art. The paintings are worth seeing, especially the masterpieces of Picasso and Monet. The building itself is amazing.

Confused layout, poor directions, and it all looks the same. Having been to Chicago, there are lessons to be learnt by this London gallery; go to the US. Too many people in the gallery were lost and looking, without any guidance. It is an out of date experience. Sad, there is real potential.
Then we think of the art. For those without technology, an English only description at the side of the picture/painting, in an international venue makes little sense. Surely four are needed, English, Spanish, Mandarin, French? More than four?
Why are the rooms so poorly signed.
Why are there so few of the masters, why only two Leonardo, a few van Gogh, and where are the modern masters?

Disappointing.

Outstanding collection of well known paintings and sculpture that is well organized, displayed and managed. No entrance fee and bags are inspected. Staff is friendly, helpful snd willing to assist. The sign of a great museum: easy to spend hours and hours inside and you have to leave because you can't absorb anymore and will return for more. Will make it a point to return when in town. Visit whenever you can.

Love the massive number of paintings they have there! And they have good explanations of each paintings by the side of it. The rooms are spacious and you don't feel packed like in a sardine can. And it's free! A must if you enjoy arts and paintings. Personally I like National gallery more than British museum.

Loved it ,well worth a visit and free admittance. Staff were very helpful, one answered all my questions. I'm in a wheelchair and had no problems at all either entering, using the lift or getting around inside .The disabled toilets are very large which is always a bonus. We didn't use the cafe so l can't comment on that.

Another beautiful (and free) museum in London. Filled with all types of paintings, there s something for everyone here - Van Gogh, Monet, Vermeer, Rubens, etc. You may see a line to enter the museum but don t let it defer you as it moves quite quickly.

There was a lot of confusion at the beginning on how to enter the gallery (due to the COVID situation) but once you re in it s great! The selection of paintings was great and the atmosphere was stunning. Great gift shop too.

Amazing paintings.

Amazing paintings.
I am giving a 3-star as I hope the Gallery could change some frames or adjust lighting.
I remember visiting the Buckingham and the audio guide said Queen Victoria once changed the frames of the paintings to avoid shadows, and I didn't understand how significant that was until I visited here. It is a regret when you find the frame shadows casting on the paintings.

A gallery with several famous paintings and artists from different places of Europe... And it's free! London is such an expensive city, but it has amazing museums like this one, for free. Closes at 5 and it's big, so give yourself a couple of hours and visit early so you can avoid crowds and walk inside calmly

Very enjoyable afternoon spent at the National Gallery. Free entry for the most part and there is a range of portraits and statues to look it. These are accompanied with the history behind each picture, enabling me to easily piece together history across the world. I would definitely recommend if you are looking for something to do in London

I first went to the national Gallery as a child, then as a student in the late 1950s - 8d bus fare from Notting Hill Gate. My dissertation for my National Diploma in Design (fine arts) was based on the Early Flemish paintings in the Gallery. Now I live outside London. 2 hours away. I enter the Gallery with anticipation- of pleasure, of learning, of revisiting old friends. Very often my visit includes the Rembrandts- this is where,as a teenager, I learned about the beauty of old age, the Early Flemish paintings ,where the "Virgin before a firescreen" by a follower of Campin and Joachim Patenier's little "landscape", need checking up on. Titian's "Man with a blue sleeve" "Bacchus and Ariadne".( I knew that before it was cleaned, and the blue was such a wonderful surprise) Then Goya..How does he do it? As if he breathes the paint onto the canvas! Always Piero della Francesca's" Baptism of Christ" where I stand still for many minutes. (On one visit recently I could not go into this room because of staff shortages, and felt very deprived) After this self-indulgent memory trip, I look at paintings I have not spent time with. I allow instinct rather than any art historical knowledge to lead me. Such treasures! Nearly forgot the Wilton Diptych. I still get lost in the Gallery. And of course the special exhibitions - I will get to the Late Rembrandt somehow.

Visited the Courtauld Impressionists exhibition. Totally brilliant. If you love Manet, Monet, Cezanne and other Impressionist painters, this is a must see.
A smallish exhibition of the Courtauld private collection.
Lovely.

Wonderful museum full of masterpieces, both well-known and lessser-known. A musuem to savour and take your time.

My only gripe is that around the most famous pieces, crowds congregate, mostly to take selfies. I wish more would just spend some time to appreciate these works through their own eyes, rather than through a cell phone. However, you get this at most world-class museums.

A must-visit, and please be considerate of others visitors!
