The Place is amazing and there is a lot of art to see from all different time periods. Theres art by Leonardo Da Vinci and Michelangelo. Overall , the place is amazing
The National Gallery and its lesser known cousin the National Portrait Gallery just around the corner, are incredible. Both are free and contain some of the world's greatest artwork, put into the context necessary to really understand them.
Well to start off I'm in the National Portrait Gallery, Google, not the National Gallery get it right.
An amazing gallery perfect for people from walks of life. Beautiful art throughout all with punchy and factual descriptions. Vast amounts of ground to cover perfect for a place to re visit or for a one off hour trip. The cafe in the basement serves simple good food priced better then most coffee shops.
Sadly it was really full and one of the van Gogh picture was missing
Some of the best and most beautiful artwork. I would definitely recommend The National Gallery on Trafalgar Square.
Its really a nice museum we see a lot of cultures and how now world is changed and the entry is free , its really nice and beautiful view inside , i learnd a lot of things and saw many new it was really an amazing day , that i can never forget , you will love this place its really an amazing place to see
It's a beautiful museum, the food wasn't too good and very expensive, but then again, the museum is free
Best freebie in London. Good aircon too, especially in Sainsbury Wing
Awesome gallery with the abundant collection of the masterpieces. It is free for everyone to enjoy the arts here or you can helpfully support them with donation. You will see the evolution of European art over centuries. If you are visiting London and enthusiastic about painting this place is totally recommended. I personally can not stop coming hear again and again.
Stunning building and features. Another must see...
Nothing to be said really. If you like art & history it's a must! A fantastic collection of some of the most prestigious artists.
Happy to see so many beautiful paintings with so much history dan story behind each one.
The National Gallery is one of the most spectacular arts venues in London. Today I specifically spent time in the Sunley Room viewing the new three-panelled tapestry "The Caged Bird's Song" (2014-2017), created by the award-winning British artist Chris Ofili CBE and hand woven by a team of textile artists from Dovecot Studios. The scale of the artwork, its vivid colours and the sublime imagery were wonderful to behold, and I am delighted that I had an opportunity to see this superb piece up close. It is always a pleasure to visit the National, and I look forward to returning again very soon!
I'd spend a whole day in here and I wouldn't get tired
I like this gallery very much. However, as an art historian and museologist it is worth mentioning how unusual it is in so far as it has almost 0 British ie. National works! Good cross section of European art with some real gems. I did get lost between the lifts though...
One of my favorite galleries in the world. Amazing collection of artwork from many of the greats
National Gallery does not need a review. It s an amazing museum full of art in the heart of cental Lodon.
There is at least an important opera from every famous past artist.
The most of the collection is free to see, that's a free entrance but there is every time specific exhibitions where you need to pay for seeing it. That's not such a big issues if you think what are you going to see.
It is possible make a pictures but always keep the respect for the museum.
Reccomemded!!!
The Monet and Architecture exhibition was fantastic!
It is a wonderful place! It's free! The are exposing Van Gogh, Monet and many other's originals. It's a must see when you are at London.
I went in the Summer of 2013. Was an amazing experience.
My favorite spot in London, over 3,000 masterpieces waiting for you to study, admire... Those paintings seem to bring you closer to the towering figures who made them. Worth 1000 visits or more...
What a place! Aren't we lucky, and why the hell don't they charge us for it? All these tourists - what a wasted opportunity for some revenue and resources to conserve /bring in other artworks. I keep going to paid galleries abroad and every time I come here I think we're bonkers.
Fantastic collection in a world class and historic setting
With no doubt one of the most important museums in the world for fine arts. Paintings are organised in three chronological clusters: 16th, 17th and 18th-20th century. My personal favourite is the one with the earliest paintings (sainsbury wings) with masterpieces by Leonardo, Piero della Francesca, Carlo Crivelli (unique large collection in one same place), Botticelli, Antonello da Messina to name a few. If you want to see the whole national gallery in detail you should consider at least three half days. There is an audioguide but a lot on informative panels can also guide you through the collection. Nice cafe with food and beverages at the ground floor. The museum is free, but to contribute to the maintenance of this amazing collection you can consider a donation or buy something at the shop!
Top! Beautiful...no words to describe the magnificence of the immortal beauty showed in those portraits
lovely place to spend a few hours. Lots of masterpieces from famous artists.
Free WiFi
A bit of a maze though. I chilled at the cafe downstairs where I enjoyed a chocolate tart and a coffee. Both was ok at best but the atmosphere was great.
I'd give you 3 stars, but taking pictures was allowed, that's why it's 4 stars. And why I'd give you so little? Because I didn't see my favourite painting by J.M.W. Turner :((((( I have no idea, the room where it was, was probably shut.. I felt very miserable. Seeing all the other paintings, that I've been learning about, was really amazing. But this painting, I shared huge hopes with it. I believe my boyfriend wouldn't manage to shift me off floor under the painting, so it's a positive for him. I'd stand there until I'd absorb the painting, or fade into it. I wanna see it!! :(
Little minus for the unconfidence with picture taking. People were mostly hiding their devices, or sneaking. I looked up the internet, cause i was a bit shy to ask for pictures opportunity (mostly i didn't want to hear a 'no'.. lol) and the site clearly states pictures ARE allowed, except for exhibitions or lent paintings. Made me really happy to take pictures, especially that it takes me a few seconds but the old stranger lady said otherwise, with confidence, proposing me to ask the guard nearby that she's right - she was sure pictures were not allowed. The guard was 1 metre away, so if it was so strict I'm sure he would bother me taking pictures with a camera. Lol
I'm extremally happy you changed this rule. That's because I wanted to make my own painting database, for what I've seen - for my study research only. I have a very bright camera, so I don't need to use any light source for pictures, and it takes me up to 5 seconds to turn my camera on- take picture - off. When people covered the painting, i waited patiently till they leave their spots. But you have to make it more obvious, that would be nice. And the ladies, pi**ing me off with flash photography they took, or lent paintings they captured (they had a sing of crossed camera, not enough for them) - would be nice, especially if somebody CLEARLY told them, you can't f***ing flash over ancient artwork !!!!!!! I wouldn't, cause I'm not a nosy old lady. That's what guards, and the informing sings are for.
I visited when the lockdown was easing and the gallery first re-opened,. Very safe environment and the curators and staff were amazing. It was a pleasure and soul satisfying to see such art after lockdown
This is a wonderful gallery BUT as with all galleries and museums there are too many stupid people taking photos on their phones.
Really astonishing selection of artistic works with selections from artists such as Van Gogh and Monet. Entry is free amazingly though a donation is encouraged. The architecture of the building is overlooked quite often but that too is something to look at. The gift shop is surprisingly well priced and patrons can get a discount of 10%. The gallery also often put on special exhibitions, sometimes requiring a ticket such as the current Leonardo Da Vinci exhibit. The rest of the gallery does remain accessible for free however.
You can spend hours here pondering what each work means.
loved the portrait exhibit and the impressionist collection! beautiful artwork and good wifi too!
Amazing gallery, and it s free! Love the exhibits and the architecture. It s crowded for good reason. Must visit when in London.
A must visit once in lifetime place. Amazing artistic treasures!
Well worth a visit but quite expensive to see the special event exhibitions.
If you're in London, go here. An fabulous place, interesting and rarely gets so crowded that you can't enjoy the art. Absolutely worth it. And please leave a donation.
The rooms number in the gallery are quite confusing for those without a map on hand.
Paintings by every noted artist you have ever heard of and a bunch you never have. Every painting is first class and each artist is represented by multiple examples of their work.
We are so lucky to see such wonderful art. What a privilege
It gets busy. We arrived at about 10:00 and walked straight in but looking out of the window by 12:00 there was a very long queue. The French Impressionist are always crowded but the rest always seem OK.
I am lucky enough to be able to keep returning so I don't feel pressured into trying to see everything at once. My recommendation is to plan your visit in advance and decide what you want to see
It s great to be able to visit the National Gallery again. Pre-book your tickets and off you go.
The collection comprises a whole spectrum of artworks. My preferences run towards Expressionism, which isn t as extensive as the Italian masters.
Beautiful gallery and always worth a visit to get inspired.
Magic place! Must be seen for any arts and paintings lovers.
It's the National Gallery. You visit to see art. There is plenty of it.
Outstanding Sorolla exhibition, very extensive and well kept paintings if a little 'bright'. Unexplained absence of sculpture.
Looking forward to residency of Rosie Nashashibi.
Beautiful building, great collection. Global heritage and cultural icon
Quite frankly I was amazed at the fact that it showed such a diverse range of art this was my first time looking forward to going back as I didn't allow myself enough time to go round
One of the greatest collections of Europe. A must if you're into visual arts
I was there last year. It was all the stuff you've ever learned about, everything you've see in text books, but it is all real in its original magnificence. Right in front of your eyes. Take a journey through time and through the progression of art through the last 7 centuries. This is absolutely the #1 museum in London.
Keep track of your friends and family in here. You will get separated very easily!
Amazing collection! Plus free permanent exhibitions! Definitely it worth a visit (or a much as you want)
Amazing place to spend time in London! Filled with many amazing art pieces!
Art Gallery with all Classic paintings from the renaissance to the 1800s...Great experience...you can take photos as long you dont use the flash...the spaces are quiet big and you easely get lost so you better get a map from the reception and go to your favorite artists if you are in a short time visit...
Amazing collection. Need a full day and more to really appreciate.
This is an absolute must in the city of London. Finest art from round the world. Starting from the XV century until modern times, it has a vast collection of pieces from all the world-famous paintors in history... you name it, he s here. I consider this one of the best art museums in the UK if not Europe, and the incredible part of this is, it is totally free! To have the chance to experience this fine art and history from all those centuries ago with no charge shouln t be understated. Of course there will be crowds (plan your visit, if you can, on certain hours of the day or even times of the year when tourism is lower... same goes for other museums) and the whole tour may take you up to 4 hours if you don t rush it or skip rooms. Many people come just to see Van Gogh s sunflowers and so, but don t miss the chance to see everything else. There s also a paid audioguide that may come in handy if you require additional information on highlighted paitings (which are plenty). Even if you are not crazy about art, you can t go wrong with this one.
Amazing artists all in one spot, a must see for lovers of the old masters, impressionists, and others (14th century - 19th)
It depends on individual s interests but for me it was very boring
Lots of rooms of original paintings on the walls. Some of the most popular are by Van Gogh and a few other popular names that I can't think of at this moment. If you don't pay attention you get a little lost. There is friendly staff in each room that can guide you to the exits.
Amazing paintings and sculptures, makes you appreciate the beauty of art and the rich culture. Seeing such talent in one place just makes you feel proud.
Fantastic collection .Amazing tour around the different art periods.
Highly recommend place to go to when in London exquisite selection of art and exclusive I must say I would recommend that you get the free or paid guides totally worth it
Wonderful art collection housed in amazing building.
