The massages are lovely but above all - THE GROTTO. They really seem to have thought of everything. Swimsuit dryers, clean lockers, shoes, robes and facilities. Quiet rooms, snacks, proper lighting, water, towels, cool mint cloths, great service. Go treat yourself. You wont regret it.

Place is nice on outside but run down on inside. Service is terrible. What made it good is our group we were with. Maid service is terrible. Only one wash cloth per room if you ask for more they have a fit. It's sad it could be s great place.

The hotel was mediocre, was there on business wasnt impressed, I'm glad I brought my own cooler. I placed a card on file for incidentals and money hasn't gotten back on my card. I spoke with Corey @ the front desk and was told it could be 3-8 business days. My money usually go back on my card the next day.

Buffet is always good, desserts are limited and the worst part of the selection but always tasty. Wish they still had the spring pools connecting to the spa. Really miss that was one of the best features and now it looks like a Apocalypse hideout to get to it. The spa is nice.

Not impressed. Went there for my birthday and for some rest and relaxation. They booked our room right in the middle of a wild wedding party who partied all night long screaming up and down the halls. When we called to have them reigned in it didn't help. There was someone else's hair on the shower walls in our room when we got there. There was soap or shaving cream on the bathroom door handle. Our later complaints via email were never answered and we got no apology. The lap pool area was closed even though it was shown as open on the website, again no apology. This was some time back. I believe Dec of 12'. I'd rather stay at a Comfort Inn than at the Elms. Will not be back.

In short, the hotel was a wonderful experience. We found the hotel on Orbitz and it looked better than the hotels nearby. The lobby personnel were very helpful and explained all the amenities of the hotel and spa. Our room was on the cheaper side but was still very comfortable and well furnished. The pool/courtyard area was neat and had plenty of chairs and shade around the large pool. During the day, the waitstaff came around the pool for drink and food service. There is a large hot tub off to the side and a large fire pit close to the hot tub. My wife and I did the couples massage and the spa experience was incredible. Would definitely recommend it to anyone that stays there.
The restaurant was decorated in dark leather and wood and seemed formal but not that much. The waitstaff were very friendly, Kyle, I think, and Amanda were excellent hosts and were very attentive. The food was awesome to say the least and would eat there again. There is an underground lap pool with hot and cool tubs and was nearly empty every time we went down. There is a ghost tour of the hotel every night. Kinda pricey but good for history of the hotel. We will definitely stay there again!

Upon entering the property we were impressed by the recent renovation, old world charm with all the modern comforts. Poolside was delightful in large part because of the bartender, Julie who was tireless, super friendly and the hardest working employee for sure! We loved the spa and grotto experience, the tour by Trenton, who was awesome, was great to orient us before we indulged in the saunas, steams, facials and more! We enjoyed the 88 as well, a darling and terrific server, Madi went above and beyond to make our snack and cocktail stop there simply delightful. And the biggest surprise, a ghost tour with Jay---an incredible storyteller...Jay led us through a late night tour filled with lore, laughs and pauses for dramatic effect! Ask for him! I would recommend The Elms for a Girls Weekend...we loved it! Also, check out the Mercantile 'in town' for food, wine events...

Would give a five star. The only thing keeping it from a five star, is they are currently between housekeeping. They are in process of hiring a new crew. Love the management they take care of you very well. Will adress any grievences and make sure your completely satisfied. The nostalgic Elms the history, spa services, food, fitness, the jacuzzi. I can go on and on. Great place all the way around! Who wouldnt want to stay where capone and Truman got reelected!

Everyone was extremely nice! The spa was pretty much all booked, so unfortunately my friend and I were not able to explore many of the services. However, we did spend a day in the grotto and we did a have a detoxifying bath which was REALLY nice! The only complaint I would have is the room service. Our breakfast was average at best... and was almost the cost of a nice dinner. NOT WORTH IT! Very disappointing and over priced... everything else was awesome though!

Finally used my gift certificate from Christmas. I chose the Moroccan Detox Ritual, which did not disappoint. I came in 2 hours early so that I could enjoy the grotto but found myself more relaxed outside by the outdoor pool catching some sun. I did try the dry sauna, steam sauna, and hot tub for a few minutes after my service. Beautiful spa, beautiful hotel, only wish I could have indulged more.

The Elms is a beautiful old hotel with great history. The entire staff was awesome and very helpful. I had special requests for my room and they did a fantastic job accommodating them. Although the menu choices were not plentiful, I suspect due to the COVID junk, but what they did have was very good. The Angus Filet was cooked to perfection every time. I highly recommend!

Spa is great, and that's about all. Hotel is quite run down and not maintained multiple stains in are room and in the hallways. Stain in the room looked like blood at the door... Front desk said "oh that's what the last guest said" just brushing it off. Hotel restaurant is a perfect mix of overpriced & poor quality.

Stayed in the luxury room but the only luxury was check out. Don't expect any modern technology or ways to connect to the small TV.

Apparently it's a big hit or a big miss here. I absolutely ADORE this hotel. This is my 3rd stay and I would rate those stays 5 stars. Today it's 2 a let me be explain why. Calling to make reservations the gentleman was so busy at the desk he was not adequate in hearing my request, this was messed up from the start. Check in starts @ 4. Arrived 4:25 STOOD in line to check in for almost a half hr informed my room wasn't ready. Gave me a drink voucher for the bar. Nice but I don't drink. An HR later I inquired, (5:45) still no room ready! Said they would call me. Ok so @ 6:20 I call again, so exhausted by now. The person said we're just going to upgrade you. Some presidential suite on the 4th. Wonderful! Great! Would call back to confirm with me. Did promptly call back (different person) then said I was going to be in a nice parlor suite with a pool view. Great! I don't care please give me a room! I got into my room finally at 7:10 (even though the receipt says i checked in at 6:29) i ended up in the same kind of room i reserved. On 5th floor. (I was told the day before there were no available room's on 5th floor. This was NOT pool side. Room was nice enough, carpenter ants in bathroom. Now normally this is a relaxed place even on the 4th of July. Not this time. A large family was staying, loud, took up the entire shallow end of pool. Was asked by another guest to not play next to a couple with a baby and they caused a scene, big fight. This the Elms, not the Super 8 where that kind of scene would be expected. Upon check out...ugh... I'm not even in the computer? 45 minutes to just check out. I'd just suggest calling ahead to confirm your room is clean. It's the room you wanted. It's the right price and give yourself lots of extra time. Employees were friendly enough but nothing I mean NOTHING was easy about our stay. Unfortunately this makes me think twice about returning. Good luck!

I honestly never would have come if I knew that. AND there r dogs allowed here... barking loud, dogs..... the pools nice, when it s not overcrowded. Traveled 120 miles round trip for a Saturday afternoon lunch and visit to the Elms. We were greeted and shown the restraunt by a young man. We were seated and had drink orders taken about 10 minutes later. Told no bartender but would go to pool to see if someone could make a drink. Gave order for sandwich and salad after about 10 more minutes. Waited for an hour and was never served. Realized about 30 minuted in that no one in the dinning room had any food or drink. No one ever came back to the table to say anything. We left and saw the two employees at the hostess desk and let them know we were not happy with service. Were told "Oh my, sorry, Bye" I'll save the gas money and time in the future.

The spa services are excellent. Their ability to book and confirm services, especially multiple services, is the opposite. Don't assume you accomplished it because you made a call. If you get one spa service you can use the grotto all day, and the grotto is great. Best advice...just get a single service each and go to the grotto and avoid a lot of irritation. Again, the actual technicians and aestheticians are great, but I will not wrestle with complicated bookings again. Great ghost tour.

I visited in November 2018, and was very dissapointed. New owners. The food was horrible at The 88, the 5th floor snacks were far less desirable than before, and The Tavernnow only served appetizers. We ended up walking to a nearby restaurant. Also, the lotions and soaps in the room were very generic. Again, much less desirable. Very disappointed in the changes. Not sure I will return.

Gift from co-workers. Hotel room and overall staff experience is 1 star. At this price point, complete failure. Dirty carpet, ripped drapes, mystery ooze on full length mirror, noisy heater in drafty room, WiFi on and off. Restaurant was just okay but very cold and drafty. Spa was the bright spot, and would be worth a day trip although double charged for service. They eventually took care of that. The Kansas City area has gotten some great new hotels and the Elms cannot compete at their price point. Spa would be a solid 4 stars.

This weekday vacation was amazing! Spa prices are high but that is usual for an entire day spa. Ultimately, the Grotto access made it worth the price! I definitely want to come back here. The grounds are beautiful and the staff was amazing. The hotel itself has so much history. If you can find a Groupon or other deal, you can get a room for super cheap. Already trying to plan my next getaway here!

We were excited to stay and were impressed upon arrival. However, after a long day of traveling we had to wait an hour for our room to be ready. Our key wouldn't work and the maintenance man had to come and explain that some of the handles are tricky. The kids enjoyed the outdoor pool but when they were ready to go to the bed we pulled out the sofa sleeper to find that there were no sheets. After our extremely loud neighbors quieted down and fell asleep we could hear snoring. Sounded like it was right there in the room with us, paper thin walls. Front desk was sympathetic but couldn't offer any help in way of a fan or white noise machine. Sad to say that we were very disappointed.

I've visited once a year for several years and it has been a little worse each time. This year everything was subpar except the grotto. As much as I did enjoy that part of my spa visit, it just isn't worth the ever increasing prices for consistently downgraded accommodations, hospitality and services.

A great location, lots of fun places within walking distance, and great staff! It feels cozy and isn't a bad price for what you get. One thing, our room had a used washrag on top of the shower curtain, easy place to miss for housekeeping, but it still should have been caught.

I'm a repeat visitor because this place is fabulous! It's beautiful, affordable, and unique! We used all the available facilities: spa, grotto, indoor pool, outdoor hot tub, room service, tavern, and restaurant. Only negative comment is that our suite was right above the dance floor and there was a big wedding taking place. The constant base was annoying. However, it won't stop me from going back!!

To find words to describe this hotel is extremely hard. It was the best experience I've had at a hotel ever. Elegant but relaxed. Guest service is amazing. The pool and lap pool are amazing. Anything you could want is at this hotel. One thing that was odd was there was no microwave in the suite but I assume that's because they have a restaurant and room service which serves delicious food for every meal.

Beautiful hotel! Only complaint is no microwave in standard rm. We stayed on 3rd floor and checked in early evening. The Kurig in our rm didn't work and we also needed robes for the pools. One call to service desk and Barbara was at our door with robes plus with a quick check of Kurig machine she was our the door and back again in a jiffy with a new machine. Very friendly and helpful!

I rather liked the Elms it was in very good condition especially considering it's age. The room was spacious and clean bed felt great. The bathroom was a tiny on the small end but for the hotels age it was not a big deal and not a big deal at all for us. Overall liked it a lot.

This hotel is gorgeous and has a very interesting ...

This hotel is gorgeous and has a very interesting history. They do ghost tours 6 nights a week, for $20 a person. They have a lap pool indoors which is very large, a hot tub outside which is 6 feet deep, and a outdoor pool which I think was 10 feet deep. The hot tub and pool were very nice, bit there were no towels outside, even though we went all the way back in and they were supposed to bring us some and never did...
Also, I did a Groupon with a dining credit, and when I checked in, they lady who checked me in did NOT tell me I needed reservations for the restaurant, so we ended up eating at the bar instead of at a table.... That wasn't so great.
There weren't a lot of towels in the room, either.
There was an extra blanket and pillow in the closet, though, which was nice.
The room was nice sized and so was the shower. There was no bathtub in the room though.
The water had decent pressure, and stayed hot.
The was also an in room Keurig, but there was only enough sugar and creamer for one cup of coffee.
No complimentary breakfast.
And the restaurant prices were VERY high. The food was good, but it was $32 for a steak, $26 for pork shoulder, $22 for chicken marsala, $12 for a cheeseburger, $14 for pork sliders and salads were $9, and entrees do not come with one.
They have quite a lot of wine and beer, if that's your thing. The cheapest wine I saw was $10/glass, $40/bottle...
The restaurant is very beautiful.
They also have an on site spa, and a fitness center.
It's a one of a kind experience to stay here, but they need to work on better service. The ladies at the front desk were friendly, but I had to end up going to the fitness center and getting a bunch of tiny towels because they never brought any out when they said they would. And when you're paying that much for one night, they should definitely be more attentive....
The king sized bed was extra huge, and very soft.
Overall, I might stay again, but I might not, too. It was EXTREMELY expensive. Also there's a 16.50 resort fee charged on top of the $145 a night room... So I kinda feel like that's Overkill, and the ghost tour should be included for free or seriously discounted for people staying at the hotel.

Additionally, I left behind my make-up bag in the bathroom. I called the front desk back within an hour of leaving the hotel... They told me it wasn't there... You would think that a bag full of probably $300 worth of makeup would be turned in to the front desk, especially by the hotel's own STAFF.... to be returned to the guest who would inevitably be calling about their forgotten property....

Very disappointed I expected better service from a place calling themselves a luxury hotel...

We've been to The Elms many times over the years. The last time we went was just after their restoration project. This visit we were disappointed to see that the property had been very poorly maintained. Carpets and furniture were strained and dirty. The bath and restaurant floors were less than perfectly clean. The people were friendly as always. It's too bad they didn't put the resources into keeping it as nice as it was just after the restoration.

Elevator was out of order. My room was on 3rd floor. Difficult to lug 2 heavy bags and purse up all of those stairs! Finally 1 man from staff came up to help my sister, but I still had mine as well as 1 other sister. And we are all in our 60s. That man was so apologetic and sweet, he should be commended for his kindness and helpfulness, especially since they were obviously understaffed.

The hotel is pretty. Everything is well kept. And the pool and pool bar were amazing. Other than that, we were pretty disappointed. Food was overpriced for what you get (paid $38 for surf & turf and left still very hungry and my husband had to send his steak back), we had a couple of bartenders who were extremely rude and acted like we were a burden, and then ended up paying $5 for bottled water in the room because we found out later that they hide the free water in the closet. I guess I just had super high expectations and they weren't met at all.

Having my wedding at The Elms was the BEST decisio...

Having my wedding at The Elms was the BEST decision I made for my entire planning process. Lacee Mawby initially helped me with information and booking the venue. She was kind, helpful, and very professional. A few months after I booked, Tori Foster began helping me with all the details of our wedding day. There are not words to describe my admiration and respect for Miss Foster. This woman is a godsend and I can confidently say my wedding would NEVER have been as perfect as it was without her. Tori was always on top of everything and went well out of her way to help me on numerous occasions. I was having a difficult time planning this, as I was 500 miles away in Chicago and Tori was there picking up my slack every step of the way. She replied to my emails and calls immediately, she thought of everything I missed, carefully coordinated every minute of the evening with me, and did all of this with one of the best attitudes I have ever seen. None of it was easy, but Tori handled is so graciously, it seemed like second nature to her. I have not met anyone as good at their job as Miss Victoria Foster and I am eternally grateful for her and everything she did for us.
The Elms itself was also amazing. When you book your venue through them they help you with EVERYTHING. Tori and Lacee also helped with our guest accommodations at the hotel as well as ours. Thanks to them, there was no stress in that. Every single staff member working at the hotel was great to work with also. Everyone was so kind and nice to us and our guests. Their only priority was that we were all happy and it truly showed. Matt, the manager helping with setup, take down, and food, the day of was extraordinary too. I saw him throughout the night making sure everything was running smoothly, with tori there too obviously! There was another woman, whose name I cannot remember, helping with food and she was very attentative and on top of everything. Our guests loved the food, rooms, atmosphere, EVERYTHING. The Elms really made my wedding magical and I feel forever indebted to each and every staff member there. Thank you guys so SO much!!

Much love from the Wilkinsons.
