We needed a bed, we needed a place to rest our head. Driving from Richmond to Denver with no end in sight. With a really good deal on a room from the hotels tonight app we made a quick decision to stay at the Capitol Plaza. We were greeted by The friendly concierge with great hair. By his face he looked like a Timothy though I don t recall his real name. We requested a queen size bed, he gave us a king. We felt valued as customers of the hotel instantly. The room was clean, and their kitchen stayed open later than any other restaurant in the city which was great for us, two hungry Travellers...wondering through the night. We are subtracting one star from what would be a five star review simply because a breakfast of coffee and fruit is not complementary. We really like complimentary continental breakfast.

A very positive and refreshing stay. Everyone polite and helpful. The food delicious and priced well. Room clean and fresh. The best stay I've experienced in my 40 years of traveling as a civilian and 20 military.

I was a speaker at the Capitol Plaza at a private breakfast. Getting to our room was a little confusing, (there are several emerald ballroom entrances), but the staff was present and very helpful. Breakfast was adequate, and all the equipment that we needed was set up and ready. I was able to easily give my presentation. I definitely recommend the space for events.

Convenient place to stay if you need to be close to the capitol, but needs a lot of cleaning and work done. The carpet has waves in it and using duct tape to try and keep it together, the bathroom floor hadn t been swept or mopped in I don t know how long, hair all over the sheets, nothing had been dusted in ages, no refrigerator or microwave, WIFI IS HORRIBLE in the room, the entire motel needed swept mopped vacuumed and dusted all the glass doors and windows had dirty hand prints all over them. The counter in the restaurant area was disgusting dirty. Oh and I paid $14 for a bowl of cereal off the buffet ! However the pool and hot tub area was very clean and nice!

Only giving it two stars because the pool, restaurant and bar area was nice and very accommodating. We came in late that evening so didn t get a chance to actually inspect the room before we were in... I found a small dog hair in the sheets and it was like a lightning show when we went to sleep. So much static between the sheets and comforter. I got in the shower the next morning and counted NINE long hairs!! The drain needed cleaned, the water was slowly draining and smelled. There were cup rings on the tv stand and night stand. Seemed like someone lived there and definitely wasn t clean!!! Rooms seemed like floor was updated but not the furniture and comforter. Comforter material was like a 90s style wind breaker material. I was not impressed, especially spending 130 bucks for a night!! Need to update and make sure your housekeepers are cleaning thoroughly!!!

We stayed at this hotel September 25-27, 2020. We noticed right away that this hotel is older and slightly unkempt outside. Inside the lobby we were impressed with the decor, cleanliness and helpfulness of the staff. Our king room was average-size, with a loveseat and desk, The bathroom was clean. It s fairly worn out though. The bed was awful and we woke up with stiff necks and sore backs. We wouldn t recommend this hotel if you re expecting quality and comfort.

This hotel is nice & clean & the staff is friendly & helpful. The biggest complaint I have is that they keep it too warm in the common areas. I did have 2 issues with my room; however, maintenance arrived within a couple minutes to fix the problem.

They didn t have working WiFi the whole time during my stay, and I have seen other reviews with the same complaint so I imagine this is a frequent issue.

In 2019 WiFi should be a requirement at all hotels and especially if you travel for business. The staff were lovely, and room acceptable, but I can t recommend the hotel because of it.

Capitol Plaza Hotel is by far the best choice place to stay while in Topeka. Not only is the staff great and the food amazing but theres also a one of a kind bar and restaurant located in the gorgeous atrium style lobby that really does truly make for an unforgettable time. The room was worth every penny spent, and the location is incredible being right down the street from the Historic Kansas State Capitol and other local hot spots.

Staff were nice, except when I got into my room, it smelled like feces. When I opened the toilet lid someone let a big one out and didn't flush... I was too tired to get a new room since I got to the hotel at midnight and just wanted to knock out. Just please next time remember to flush it if your going to use the restroom. :)

We had Easter brunch at the capital Plaza restaurant and were extremely disappointed. We were there not long after noon. The food was picked over with minimal restocking. Nothing was particularly great either. Needless to say, $50 later for the extra "special" extra cost brunch we will never be back. We spoke with the manager and informed her of the issues. She was very dismissive and refused to even reduce the cost to the normal rate. There was absolutely no difference between the special brunch and the regular Sunday brunch..possibly was worse than usual Sunday brunch. Do not waste your time for the regular brunch, let alone the "special" Easter, Mother's Day etc. brunches. Worst $50 we have ever spent.

Booked last minute, as the family was on a road trip and we need to stop for the night. Paid well over what was listed online for a 1 night stay and also got switched to a second room after the first did not have air conditioning, just to sleep in the second that also did not have working AC. The rooms also didnt have coffee or even an ice bucket to get ice down the hall.

I had a last minute booking to this place to avoid...

I had a last minute booking to this place to avoid driving another 4 hours. I've stayed here before and even though it's not on the main drag, Wanamaker, or as close to the interstate as other hotels, it's still worth coming to.
When I got there I walked up to the counter where the clerk was standing. As I approached the manager walked out of her office and told the clerk there were only 2 rooms left for the night because 3 baseball teams and they still needed to be cleaned. So I took one of the rooms at a very discounted rate (thank you manager) and received 2 breakfast tickets, which were not originally included as well (thanks again manager). She added the discount and food because I had to wait 10 minutes before I could get into the room since housekeeping had to freshen it first. But with their full service bar that wasn't hard to do.

The room ended up being quiet, with a comfortable bed and clean bathroom.

Breakfast the next morning was excellent, though I'm used to eating at their buffets on Sunday where they provide an omelette station as well. And the hostess seats you instead of just handing you silverware and letting you seat yourself. Maybe that's their new way of doing things (I haven't been back in 5 years) but it ended up being a cluster****. We put our utensils on a table and went to the buffet bar, but by the time we returned to the table other guests were seated there. Also, no server ever came to our table for a drink order, which was a disappointment. Do the servers still receive tips if they're only bussing tables? Left me confused, but I still felt obligated to tip.

So besides the breakfast situation, which was still better than most hotel's "hot breakfast", everything was great about my brief stay. Will come again.

If you need a good night sleep, I wouldn t recommend this place to anyone. We were exhausted from driving. We ate at the restaurant and the service was friendly but extremely slow. Then we wanted to relax and watch tv but NONE of the channels were working. So we thought we would watch a movie but it was $19 for movies came out in 2011. Then at 12 am the alarm clock in the room next to us was going off and it woke us up so we had to call someone to turn it off. BUT THE WORST PART: this place was so noisy!! After we woke up we couldn t fall back asleep. All night long we could hear the music from the lobby and people talking. Extremely rude! Why are you playing music in the middle of the night?! Have they noticed the lobby echoes and the walls are thin? I guess not. Oh and the WIFI sucks.

Nice hotel who kept of with the overflowing conference attendees! Wish the dog show was not occurring at the same time because there were dogs barking throughout the night! That being said, not many hotels are so accommodating to dogs!

Pet friendly hotel, that's why I give it 5 stars. 95% of the reviews you read are accurate. Very friendly staff, dated but clean rooms, noise travels up from main level, but not much to really complain about. If you're looking for a $200/night experience, you're not gonna get it, but then again you're not paying $200/night. I'd stay there again, and if you travel with pets, this is one that truly welcomes pets.

There was an issue with my reservation, that's not the hotels fault, but it was frustrating. The receptionist didn't help. Trinity was her name, she has absolutely zero customer service skills. I don't even know how she got past the interview. With any issue, she rolled her eyes. She called me over with a "psst" sound instead of using my name. And she knew my name because my reservation was sitting right in front of her, it was just faxed in. The carpet throughout the hotel is taped down. Also, there is a large amounts of dust underneath my nightstands. I have physically written the word "dust" in it. I will definitely not be staying here again, and it all cost you should avoid this place. The Motel 6 is better...

Built like an Embassy Suites with a inner courtyard, restaurant and bar. They had signs up for new carpeting soon. Rooms were spacious enough and bed comfy. Some older features such as the windows but still nice. Next to convention center.

The hotel is very nice overall. The rooms were very clean. My only issue was that my first room didn't cool as much as I'd like and the second had a noisy fan for the a/c. I would recommend this hotel and stay there again.

This hotel is pleasant. Staff is mostly friendly. The housekeeping staff will knock several times, and come back multiple times during the day even if you have the privacy please sign out; this was irritating. The friends we were travelling with made reservations weeks in advance for a king room. The hotel gave their room to someone else and they ended up in a room with two fulls that had no microwave or fridge, and terrible Internet connection. Our room was quite comfortable and exactly what we had reserved. Hotel was clean and well decorated. We didn't try the restaurant.

One of the more expensive hotels in town. Nice room but they do nothing to protect their parking lot when there are events next door. Pay $350 for your stay get screwed and park literally more than a mile away. Flippant kid at the desk responds "well it's free what do you want us to do?"
Probably will NOT be staying here again for next year's NHRA races. Bad experience, poor customer service.

I didn t realize the hotel had an open center like Embassy Suites. I like that design with the water fountains visible from the walkway in front of nearly every room and festively lit elevator with glass back to see the hotel s goings-on while riding up & down. I appreciated the sincere message card left on the bed. I had my swim suit, but didn t realize the pool area also had a hot tub until after I d checked out. I skipped the exercise room and instead hoofed up & down the fire escape s 126 steps.

All the staff were very professional and explained what was going on with our card. He told us what was there and around the hotel. The room was amazing and comfortable. The bathroom was clean and tidy. The restaurant was a bit pricey but it was well worth the money. It was an all around amazing place.

Had a good experience. Pool area was nice, breakfast was good, and rooms clean. Staff was great. Only thing that was not great was the shower head didn't move and tub leaked or something. There was water on the floor. Other than that, it was good.

Booked 2 rooms for a client for one night this wee...

Booked 2 rooms for a client for one night this weekend through Expedia. Usually, when I do these bookings I can always put the rooms on my card at the time of booking but pay at check in with cash while also keeping the card on file for incidentals.

Not at the Capitol Plaza Hotel. They charge the full amount of the room at the time of check-in to your card, and if you want to pay with cash you have to do it at check out, which is pointless for the customer. It put me in a position where while already working a busy day running around for my client, I had to make an extra trip to a Bank of America ATM (thankfully they had one in Topeka) to deposit more cash before they would release the 2nd room key. Huge inconvenience.

Go to look at my bank account later, and they charged me more than was quoted by Expedia. Talked to them on the phone, and there's a fine print for an accommodation fee. They blamed it on Expedia, but they set these extra prices and hidden fees in advance, and they just expect the booking service to take the heat for it. And of course I wasn't refunded a single penny, the hotel wasn't empathetic to the situation, they really couldn't have cared less and just wanted to blame it on Expedia.

Huge inconvenience from a bait-and-switch hotel in Topeka, KS.

Booked it on our long road trip and we were excited when we saw a beautiful atrium with a glass elevator as we entered the hotel. Once we got into our room everything went wrong. We had to switch rooms because of no AC (not much better for the 2nd room), double beds, and the room was extremely tiny. We paid double at this hotel than the hotel we stayed at the night before. 2 queen beds, a pull out couch, plenty of space for a surprising $70 a night. We stayed here one night and paid $140 and didn't even receive an ice bucket.

The hotel staff are friendly and professional. The hotel interior is generally clean with an indoor restaurant, fitness center, & pool. The parking is free. On the night I checked in, there was a situation that led to two evacuations. It must involved plumbing issues because there was "hard water" the next day, water that feels like oil due to too much minerals in it. My only other complaint is the free WiFi didn't work; there was signal but none of my devices could connect. I probably won't stay here again.

Staff is very friendly but hotel is really outdated. The room was always cold even though we had the temperature set at 75. There was a cold draft that came in through the window. Window needs to be replaced. Maid service was iffy, good one day and bad the next. It was a business trip and we had no choice on hotels. I would not stay there again.

Left a bag in the room in the corner. Expensive dog shampoo and ribbons from dog show. We each had 1 bag and that small black bag. We got home and realized that bag wasn t there. Called hotel and it was just matter of fact not there. I am also in a customer service industry and that was not At all the way it should have been handled. Very poor customer service and there is no way that bag isn t there

The room was clean and available early. I appreciated the pool, fitness center, and wifi. The staff did a good job accommating the large number of people attending a convention from everything I was able to observe.
