The Bier Markt King West Reviews

Very disappointed yesterday with lunch service. Waited 15 mins before server took our drink order; then 30 mins to get our food. She forgot the frites, the mayo looked like someone had already dipped their frites into it and she blamed it on the kitchen having to deal with the lunch rush. There was no 'rush'; the servers were not rushed off their feet. And she didn't ask if I wanted another drink; she just asked if I was finished with the one I had. I'm generally a good tipper but I refuse to tip for poor service and especially when there's an 'I don't care' attitude. We live in the neighbourhood and dine out regularly so support all the local restaurants but the Bier Mart won't be getting any more of our business.

Little slow service tonight, and food not quite what I'm used to. Hopefully this is just one bad visit. Usually this place is a must go to when we travel into Toronto.

Good vibe, nice renovations, great food and beer selection and good bands.

A fun spot. The beer selection is nowhere near as good as it used to be, but you can still get a few different international brews that you might not find elsewhere in the city. They are also now attached to the Goose Island brewery, who make a nice variety of good tasting beer.

Great ambiance, not too noisy. All the staff were very sweet. Our waiter was very attentive, and food is sub par. Great place to bring group of friends for sure.

We were waiting for friends for half an hour and were stressed out by staff to fill the table we had reserved. The food was expensive and not that good. Music was too loud to chat (but some people like that)...although the music was good. The food and service was the disappointment. I liked the beer though. This was at the King Street location

Best poutine I have ever had the pleasure of enjoying. The service was some of the best I have ever experienced and I regret that I cannot remember the name of our server to give her credit. But, I made reservations under my own name, so it should be easy enough to look up.

Really cool atmosphereand vibe
The outside area is very large so you won't feel cramped.
My experience was the bar tender was nice and she did give me a sample of something I haven't tried to help me choose what to get.

Bar and live band on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Restaurant the rest of the time. Very large beer selection. Food is good. When busy can be a bit unruly.

Awesome place for dinner and/or drinks. Absolutely love their cheese fondue

Food came so fast we had plenty of time to make the show at The Sony Centre!

Poor quality sound system. The vocals are buried sound muffled. Too much trying to go through to little. Empty dance floor at 11:45 on a Friday

I quite like the Bier Market, but it's ALWAYS busy so sometimes the service isn't great.

Tasty mussels and frites but a bit gritty, the kitchen should wash them better..

Came in on a Friday night, sat down, and no one served us for 10 minutes. The server had an attitude with us when we were ordering. We did nothing wrong. We weren't loud or anything. Then when we asked for the bill, he didn't come back for a while as if he was ignoring us. I've never had such service before where a server was rude and ignoring us.

Had a large group, service was average. Beer selection was fine, but not enough beers on tap. I didn't get food but others did. I had a few fries that we're soggy. I think overall the food presentation made it look better than it tasted.

I went to the October fest. It was very unorganized and the service was horrible.

Customer service was great just overall found the menu very confusing

I like this place. It s close to where I work and they have a huge patio with lots of space and a good selection of beers. Also, they have a giant preztel which is just bonus points.

Drinks were great, as well as the assorted appetizer platter we selected.

Had to often call attention to wait staff for drink refills and placing orders.

Food was ok, beef Gouda dip was tough and lacked flavor. Best thing we ordered was probably the platter and a chicken salad.

Nice and open place. Had drinks bought for my guest and I due to some poor service and that made me appreciate this place as they take criticism well and try to fix it ! Great drink selection and lots of tv's everywhere for the games ! Will definitely be back !

This is the original in Toronto. The esplanade is a bit kitsch but if you are going to the game the green P parking across the street is the cheapest and fastest exit from the city post game. Get the delirium tremens beer and you are welcome

Make your own charcuterie board is amazing ! Only place that carries Duvel beer, amazing selection

Highly impressed, went there for a quick bite and a pint. Got sat in the middle of a dance floor what's the music blaring, so we moved to the bar I tried to order a beer for 5 minutes. We could see into the room behind the bar where the staff was having a chat clearly not related to work. This continued all evening and we left promptly after our food finished. I don't know where the manager was, but it was peek time on a Friday evening. Won't be back.

They have a great beer list and is guaranteed to be extremely busy basically 100% of the time.

Huge bar, both inside and out on the patio, good for large groups. Excellent beer selection (pages and pages) both local and international selections. Food menu contains a fair amount of various bar type food - the veggie sandwich was delicious.
Before visiting this past weekend, I used to frequent years ago when there would be live cover bands which was always a good time. However, it feels a bit 'corporate' now for my liking which is the reason for the 4 stars.

Great fish and chips, gigantic sandwiches and fresh cut fries. Very good, wish they had regular 'tartar sauce' instead of fancy aioli, but oh well.... Service was very good as well.

Ideal if you want to get drunk and listen some live music, otherwise there are other options for a chill evening

Update: newly renovated this place is a great and stylish spot for drinks, especially in summer months.

Went to the Beir Market last night with a few friends because we heard of a band playing there that we saw a few years ago at the Bier Markt! This place has definitely changed and the service was not very good as far as the waitresses tending to the tables. The band was amazing though I wish this band played there more! I remember seeing them a few times year ago and the place would be packed! I would come back here only for the drinks and the band! More places need live music like these guys! I think the name of the band was rollercoaster something, great night other then the service! We live in Toronto so I ll be checking back to see if they play again soon! Great night overall!

This place just doesn't know what it wants to be... With a history as a brew pub with live entertainment and a bit of a meat-market vibe the Bier Markt is reopened and is (I guess) trying to upscale itself but has just turned into a hot mess... New menu and dining environment to get away from benches and large tables, yet in this new sit down friendly look you'll be yelling over the loud music.
I'm predicting half the staff will have to be let go - the service is terrible. First visit took 45 min to get the bill and our party had to ask three times. My second visit we had ordered food at the bar, but when a table opened the server said we'd have to cancel the order (she didn't know how to transfer it), had to get a manager to help. The staff is very inexperienced and visibly perturbed that they have to actually serve you.
It's transformed into a turn-key minimal effort restaurant - generic really - better suited for the suburbs than downtown Toronto. Two visits was enough... But the duck wings are tasty.

Came here Saturday night. Waitress didn't seem enthused to seat two people at 12am.

Saw about 3 rats scurrying throughout the front and under the booths

I tasted craft beer to Oyster.
Oysters were very fresh.

All ok, food, beer and such. Has nice big TVs for watching games. Booths are great if you're kid sized, gets uncomfortable after an hour.

There are fewer places that cater to beer affecianado like The Bier Markt. The new space is large and exquisite whether you are there you a game, meet a friend or quench your thirst. As for the food, try their burgers...

Good atmosphere and ample variety of drink options allow for good times!

Perfect place to celebrate, the atmosphere is great.

The service was quite slow even though they didn't seem very busy. The food was ok. Nothing amazing. But great selection of beer!

Had a great experience at Bier Market. Our server Bass took great care myself and my wife and made the experience great. Would definitely recommend!

Worst service ever. Servers are slow and not kind at all. Founds ripstick stain on the glass and the server never apologize about it. Odered chicken wings and it smells disgusting. Don't go there.

The new avatar is very nice. Great service. Wow how they have improved on this aspect. Great choice of beer and a lovely setting.

This place looks amazing inside. The bartender was super friendly too. Food and drinks were nicely prepared. The only reason I gave it a 4 out of 5 is due to the fact that it was expensive

Quite disappointed as I came here for their buck a shuck Wednesday oysters and the server came back to tell us it s actually $2 per oyster. The reason was due to the upcoming minimum wage increase. A bit of confusion there because firstly the minimum wage doesn t increase until 2018 and secondly it doesn t increase by 100%.



Finally, the overall service was good as the manager came by to check on us several times. The food is quite inconsistent and because of that I probably won t revisit for a while.

Friendly staff, large bar with good selection and plenty of indoor booths and tables outside. Number of screens for the sports too. Great for groups!

Love the range of beer they have to offer. It's a chilled out place, having great ambience, good music and food.

A little late on this but only back from my trip to Toronto and catching up on everything. I ended up here searching google maps for craft beer spots and it just ticked all the boxs for me. Really nice atmosphere, staff were friendly and chatty and solid beer selection. The manager an english chap although clearly busy, happily took time to recommended lots of different choices and what food to pair them with and my planned 2 max and on to explore somewhere else went out the window quickly. I would highly recommend for anyone looking for a great craft beer selection and and even better service

I'm not a huge fan of beer, but I was able to find something I did enjoy!

Overall great experience! Helpful friendly people as always. Clean!!!! Loved the French language flavour around the place

It pains me to provide such a poor review for the Bier Markt on The Esplanade in Toronto and they get a 2-star b/c I love the concept and the extensive beer menu and have been to a couple of their other locations as well as this one a number of times but the service level has been completely missing the boat here as of late. Slow and inattentive would be an understatement, the food was good and came out promptly but the wait staff really gives you the impression that they don't want to be there and I say staff b/c we had to interact with a couple of them to get any service during our most recent visit on Sept 22nd. Overall I was disappointed, the service level seems to have been progressively moving downward the last while here and it would be great if that gets fixed so that we can once again enjoy our time here.

We hosted a wonderful event here which allowed for a ton of mingling and consumption of good food and drink. Thanks for a great event!

Average place to go with drinks. Security at the door takes their job maybe too seriously. If you like live music with people singing along then you'll like this place, if not then you wont.

AMAZING new menu. Hard to choose. Also our Server (Ben) was good and the Manager kindly came out to chat with us about our experience.

Huge beer selection and live music. Food is solid (schnitzel servings are huge) Good place for a party, or just a night out.
