The service from the concierge and room service is great and the guys are so lovely! Rest of the place needs major refurbishment/ improvement and is definitely not 5 star. Rooms are so cramped and dated. Walls were thin and I could hear conversations happening in the next room. Felt like I was at a roadside motel. The service at the front desk was so average. The lady who checked me out couldn t be bothered and just wanted me out. Definitely not worth the money at all. Will check out other, newer hotels in the area next time.

Increasing the rating after our conversation with the Chef who politely explained why the mix up happened. Hope there were more polite people like him there!

Planning to go there again to review the dinner chef s menu.

Sitting here right now, and it is the worst possible experience. You cannot offer the proper tasting make it very clear everywhere. Worst possible service. Roadside dhabas in India have better service than this.

I booked a large suite for me and my son thought amex. When I realized I wouldnt be able to attend I called and spoke to the day shift front desk manager who told me it wasnt a problem and would notate the reservation. I knew they would be getting there late and even later considering I was staying east. When my sister got there they wouldnt let her check in, there was no notation on the reservation, so I had to call the night shift front desk manager and they decided they needed something in writing - so I had to do that. Then the next day they said my card wasnt working and demanded another card from my sister, who cant really afford that type of deal. Nobody called me. Nobody emailed me... when my sister called to tell me, it was handled in 2 secs with Amex as it was just a fraud issue. We only stayed here bc it was last minute and it was the first 5 star suite we found, and we will not stay here again, and suggest that with the litany of high end hotels ava in the city, you look at other options as well.

Love this hotel. The rooms are bright and airy. The facilities are modern but not avant guard.
Food available was good with a great breakfast service (a la carte not buffet)
I highly recommend the corner rooms as they have 2 windows and a nice view of Union Square.

Absolutely LOVE this hotel! The location can't be beat; walk to Ghibelline Square, Fisherman's Wharf, Pier 39 and steps to the Cable Car turnaround that takes you anywhere else you want to be in the city. Great park next to the Hotel with views of the Golden Gate Bridge... all this, plus beautiful decor and an amazing staff made our stay one that we will never forget. We will definitely be staying here on our next visit to San Francisco!

I was visiting a friend's room for a few hours. My friend had lost their room access card and when she entered the front desk line, the doorman came in got the replacement key process going. The service there is prompt and the employees seem to be willing to play multiple roles. The rooms are very nice and large. The furniture is all high quality and the bathrooms are luxurious. The room my friend was in had a view of the Christmas tree in a courtyard across the street, which was a fantastic view.

We have stayed in many Taj resorts and the experience here was less than optimal compared to the others. Taj hotels are known for excellent personalized service and we expected the same here. Unfortunately it did not measure up to what one would expect. The rooms are immaculate and wonderful (small, but that is to be expected in San Francisco). However, a few bad experiences soured our stay. The restaurant staff did not seem friendly and seemed rushed. At checkout, we were charged for minibar usage even though we had not touched anything in the minibar. We were charged about $70 for beer and wine that we never used. Not sure if the housekeeping staff mistakenly charged our room instead of someone else's , but that is not acceptable at a 5 star hotel. I had to fax some important documents urgently and the front desk employee on the first night was more than willing to do it and made sure that I got confirmation of it. I had to fax a couple of more documents the next morning and another person at the front desk told me that it would cost $3 for the first sheet and $1 for every subsequent sheet. It's not about the charge, but the inconsistency in their policy. The first employee went out of his way make sure I got things done, but the second employee seemed like he was being bothered to do something. Our experiences at the Taj hotels in other places have been stellar and we usually seek out Taj resorts and hotels around the world, and hopefully this site will come up to the same standards.

Taj hotels are always great. Service is perfect. The Indian touch helps! The Taj Campton Place Hotel is in a great location at Union Square in San Francisco. The Taj Campton Place Restaurant is also great - try their vegetarian tasting menu - incredibly creative food. The room was comfortable, bed great for sleeping, and bathroom spacious. Staff were friendly & helpful.

Absolutely LOVED our stay at the Taj! Beautiful hotel with spacious and well appointed rooms, and service that goes above and beyond! Especially want to thank Ashley and Sonya with Guest Services for their extra special help celebrating my husband s birthday. They really put thought and care into helping make his special day feel extra special! They are amazing service professionals! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and will absolutely make it a point to be back again! It s our new go to San Fran spot! Thanks for the great memories, Taj Campton!!

Room is small but very nice and meets our needs. Staff has been very friendly. I got the room through priceline which can sometimes lessen the quality but I don't feel thats been the case. We did drive but I parked my car at a nearby garage instead of using valet.

My friends reserved a table for three at Taj Campton for a Thanksgiving dinner. The place is very elegant and requires you to dress accordingly. You cannot walk in wearing casual stuff. We went for the tasting menu, which was divided into the vegetarian and non-vegetarian sub-menus. In each of them, some appetizers and mid-snacks were fixed but we did have options to choose from when it came to the mains and the desserts. We thought we would get what was there on the menu, but did Chef Sri surprise us! We kept getting fillers and the whole experience was incredible! Here are some of the things worth mentioning:
1. Ofcourse, the Spice Pot: nostalgia hits you when you have this super good looking signature dish from Chef Sri. It reminds you of the dahipuri from local Indian stalls but only better. Instead of just yogurt, he uses the indian buttermilk and it s delicious!
2. Truffle naan: Naan like never before. It s baked and it s like a dinner roll, but it s the most delicious naan you ll have in your life. You are going to get addicted to this.
3. White truffle pasta: I hadn t tasted white truffle ever before and this dish changed that for me. Now I m a white truffle lover and I look for while truffle dishes everywhere I go. It had 24K gold leaves too, which added to its beauty.

It was definitely not as expensive as we thought it would be. Knowing that it s a 2 Michelin star restaurant and we were 3 people ordering gold coated food left right and center, we were expecting the final amount to touch $500-$600. But after all the taxes, it came to $400, which is still expensive but not as expensive as it could really get for a 2 Michelin star experience. If you think you can shell out this much for a delicious meal that might haunt you later, do come to this place. I was super apprehensive of this Cal-Indian cuisine as I am super particular about the indianness in Indian cuisine, but kudos to Chef Sri! Yes, my apprehension no longer exists.

We had an enjoyable stay here over Christmas. Service was very good as expected but it was also spotty when it wasn t up to the same standard at times.

We got upgraded to a larger room and expectations were high until we saw it and it wasn t exactly a big room. But for SF standards, I suppose it was. The bathroom was nice with a big nice shower.

The restaurant as you may expect was excellent. We only had breakfast there one morning but it was a very comfortable setting, great food, and very high quality presentation.

We would certainly come here again as the larger impersonal hotels are about the same price and less preferred for us.

Absolutely amazing food! I went there as part of a company event and even if we were around 100 people, they delivered on quality. Very, very fine meal with a delightful presentation. A memorable dinner!

Absolutely amazing restaurant, and well deserved michelin stars. The food and wine pairings to go with it are just beyond words.
One of the few michelin starred restaurants that I know of with a vegetarian tasting menu, and it was pretty good!

We here with a group of 7 on a Saturday night. We had the 5-course chef's tasting menu. The food is subtly Indian and overall very good. I recommend the mango dessert.

The ambiance is a little too uptight for my taste.

Delicious tasting menu and wine pairing. Very well executed, creative and thoughtful Indo-French cuisine. Smooth operation with very attentive wait staff. A truly luxurious eating experience. Good for a special occasion meal.

Not worth it. The rooms are quite expensive for no reason. The internet is $12/day and the Michelin star restaurant which perhaps may be the only good thing about this place was closed. In room dining was a joke with bread that wasn't actually fresh and on one occasion my food was actually cold on arrival. There doesn't seem to be alot of noise originating internally from the hotel but when there was noise it was enough to wake me up.

Just stayed December 8-10. It is an amazing hotel, great staff, great food, the rooms are comfortable and unique to other hotels I have stayed at. I was very happy there. It's a tad off topic, but I loved the bath robes... I meant to write down the website on the label, but forgot... If anyone from the hotel is reading, please let me know.. I would love to buy one!!!

Wonderful rooms, mattresses of the most comfortable of the planet I would say, I lack more variety of food in the bar.
It is a place to go as a couple or as a family, not to party with friends.

The hotel is great. Great location right next to Union Square and all the shopping. We took the subway here from the airport which cost $10 which saves a lot of money too. The room is nice. Great bed. Great cleaning staff too as they do a great job putting it back together every day while we're gone even going as far as folding clothes our clothes. Staff overall has been extremely nice. My main complaint is that they charge $30 a day for incidentals. This is a tonne of money when converted to Canadian (approx. $200 more on our cost to this trip) for services that could never cost that much (coffee and muffins in the morning. Water bottles in the room. Gym which we never used.). It was also never mentioned anywhere when we booked this place and honestly, we would never have booked here had we known. That alone has left a really bad taste in our mouth as we had no choice in paying it or not when we checked in. The WiFi is free apparently but when you log in, it says it's going to cost $12 for premium internet but the front desk said to ignore that. When we booked, it was clearly written that internet is free as that was important to us when choosing our hotel. Overall it's the hidden costs that this place fails to mention that keep me from giving it 5 stars. We ate breakfast in the hotel restaurant and the food was amazing. It's a Michelin star restaurant so expect great food with higher pricing. We did not eat dinner there as it was outside of our budget. Lastly, and this is in no way a reflection of the Taj Campton though it it must be mentioned that San Francisco has a major homeless problem. It is impossible to ignore. Expect to see abject human poverty, drug addiction and misery at every turn in this part of town. Expect to feel unsafe. We have seen feces on the ground, heroin needles left adjacent to makeshift cardboard beds and sections of roads with as many as ten homeless people all together that you would definitely not want to walk by. We thought Chicago was bad but this is much worse. It's sad that such a rich place chooses to turn a blind eye to what is clearly a huge problem. I would say that we will not ever come back to California knowing this rich city is this bad I wonder if the millionaires who live here are not embarrassed by this issue. Again, this has nothing to do with the hotel but this review is for people planning a vacation. Be prepared if you're coming to San Francisco to encounter this in a way you might not be ready for.

DO NOT BOOK THIS HOTEL (NO MATTER THE OFFERS WHICH THEY TRY TO CONQUER YOU)
I decided to stay at this hotel as the ratings were very good and they offered me great benefits like breakfast included, a complimentary upgrade, and $ 100 to spend on food and beverages. The attention at the time of booking was very good.
The nightmare began when we arrived at the hotel. The room where we were accommodated was very small (Taking into account that the hotel was less than 10% full, there was no such upgrade).
In the morning, when I call to order breakfast (since the hotel restaurant is closed) they inform me that "Breakfast included, means 30 USD to spend per passenger". The terrible thing is that those 30 USD are deducted by 20% for "Service charge" (For bringing it to the room, but you have no other option since the restaurant is closed) and 8.5% for sales tax. In other words, of the 30 USD, there is only 21.45 USD left and only one American coffee costs 7 USD. That is, the included breakfast that they used when selling was only a coffee with a toast, in a tiny room. I had to take it while standing!
Then they offer you a benefit for food and beverages, but there is no room service outside of breakfast time, the minibar was empty, the bar and restaurant closed. There is nothing to spend them on!
Returning to my room after a day's work, I see that it was not fixed and that the towels were not changed. When I called to inquire, they told me that, if I don't request it, they won't do housekeeping, of course, no one will tell you. When I called, I requested that they come to do it and being 18HS they had no one available.
The hotel is understaffed. The person at the front desk is also the manager. The attention is very bad.
The beds only have a lower sheet (mattress cover) and bed covers. There are no hay sheets!
This hotel is a big lie.

Still a delightful place after many changes -- with elegant surroundings, classy ambiance, attentive and careful service, and really good food. Portions are small but adequate and beautifully presented, and the kitchen sends several tasty "extras" during the course of a meal. Good drinks and a comprehensive wine list (with some reasonably priced choices)add to the nicely paced dinner experience.

John the doorman is the sweetess person that you will first meet upon arrival. He is reflective of all once you cross the portals. Immediately to your left the conceiege is ready to help.

At The Omni you cannot tell the conceige from the desk clerk as all are behind the counter. At Campton Place there are 3 attendants ready to check you in. Again The Omni falls short as one has to walk 100 feet from the door down a flight of steps to be checked in. Campton Place is so distinguish that John will point to the alley adjoining named Campton Place.

The Hyatt sits directly opposite across the street but half the time you have to open the entrance door by yourself. Not so with John who manages to get your car parked and opens the door to help you egress.

The cuisine is close to a Michelin star rating. No one has yet to ask that a dish be changed. Not a microwave on the premise.

The only thing wrong about this hotel is that nothing is wrong. It shines like a Tiffany diamond. John is always quick to point out Tiffanys as it can be seen from the entrance. The house pens are made by Cross.

If you find anything at fault with the description of this oasis I will take care of your stay.

Oh the e-mail on top is correct. President Kennedy was my father, different mother. Yet Caroline and I share the same eyes, nose and forehead. DNA matches.

Be careful when they charge "Miscellaneous fees" - you probably wont use any of the services that are classified under that heading, but you will still be charged. Servers are a mixed bag. Some were good, others were pathetic. When it came to loading bags into the car or the doorman helping to open the doors (when your hands were full with bags) we were treated pretty much non-existential or invisible. Basic courtesy that we expect from Taj (or at least why we pay a premium for it!). Sent an email citing the charge, but havent received either an acknowledgement or a reply. Bottom line - if you expect great service, you will be disappointed. You are better off being at Hilton (significantly cheaper) or Hyatt (much much better service).

I Absolutely Love The Taj Campton Place in San Francisco! My friend and I stayed there for a girls mini vaca. Was there August 24th to the 26th, 2015 for two nights. Arrived there about 9:00 am from an early flight, and was planning on just asking if they could hold our bags until check in. The clerk at the front desk was so kind and let us check in our room early. From the moment we arrived until the second we left, we had the Ultimate stay because of everyone on the staff. From the front desk, to the door men, to the concierge and all the staff that we encountered, we felt so welcome and were most appreciative of the entire service! We didn't know our way around SF very well, and the informative front desk personnel and the concierge were extremely helpful! It's in a very convenient location, 2 blocks to Chinatown where we spent a lot of time shopping. Close to transportation, and a Starbucks next door, however we didn't have to go there. They have a nice complimentary morning coffee and tea set up, along with fresh baked goods. I am already recommending this hotel to everyone I know, and will most definitely stay here every time I visit San Francisco! I've already posted photos and compliments on all my social media, and have 5 starred this hotel! Thank you so much for making my stay a Wonderful Experience !!! Kudos to The Taj Campton Place San Francisco !!!
