Camped and did not stay at the hotel. Camping guests do get to enjoy the pool and great showers. Love the adventure.
Very nice place to stay overnight friendly people, good food in the restaurant . I did like it very nice experience
They didn't notice I was there until five minutes later. Good food, chicken tenders we're undercooked though. They also have a pool table which costs money and a full running bar. Bit overall a good restaurant.
Great place considering its in the middle of a desert, the food was good aswell. Rooms have air conditioning that is very loud so bring your earplugs cause youll find it hard to sleep, but a fantastic place all together!
That we beached here for almost 4 hours, we would not have thought. Suddenly in front of us at the end of the town there was a police patrol and locked the road. The policeman advised us to stay here better than to drive back all the way. Said and done. First eat something, calm down basic needs. Incidentally, we notice this small hotel complex with pool in Death Valley. My husband asks without further ado, if we are allowed to bathe (at 50 degrees outside temperature). Of course, so the answer from the owner. Cool. Just awesome. The bathing suits were quickly picked out, bath towels and showers free. We would like to thank you once again.
Nice hotel but didn't stay there just visited the Gift shop.
I didn't actually eat here but I'm just answering the survey to get some money on my Google Play account
Stopped at the restaurant. Not bad, but we were a little late in the afternoon and they had sold out of a lot of stuff. What we did have was tasty.
Paid almost $300/night, there is no bath soap/liquid, bathroom not cleaned. There are no cups to drink water! Limited towels 2nos, in a 4 person room. There is almost no cold water in the bathroom, the night I stayed was @ 75 F.
Room ok but expensive ($ 163), air conditioning much too noisy.piscine nice. On the other hand not internet despite the promises.
The restaurant is to be avoided, 40min for a burger really bad!
Rooms a little spartan but very exotic place in the middle of nowhere wild West desert atmosphere
Unforgettable
Good friendly service in the bar. Bacon wrapped dates are amazing.
Wi-fi does not work, rooms are old and shabby, poorly cleaned.
My stay was back in 2017, so not sure if its still the same.
We very much enjoyed the stay, especially driving up when it was september and we followed a rain cloud, so all the colours came out from the rocks of Death Valley. It's a short drive to the dunes, Badwater Basin and the other sites of the area.
We had a swim in the pool at night, accompanied by swooping bats eating the insects hovering about the pool lights.
The restaurant had tasty food and good selection of drinks too.
The room is spacious. Beds were clean but the bath towels were a little suspicious. Air conditioning was really loud, however considering in the middle of desert, it is not easy to have everything up to date, so understandable. The affiliated restaurant is good. It is very close to Mesquite sand dune. I believe if we visited Death Valley in a sunny day, the view from the hotel would be much better.
Much better than we were expecting. Rooms are big with two queen size beds, fridge and Aircon. Rooms look to have been recently refurbished and are very clean. There was a warning in the room that cockroaches are present up to September and this seemed to be the case as we didn't see any in October.
If you need gas use the one across the road as this was the cheapest we found inside the park.
Restaurant was OK and had two veggie options.
Sanddunes are a mile or two away and the majority of other sites can be seen within the day.
A very simple and comfortable base camp for a fantastic destination. We really enjoyed our stay. Food was better than average, and employees were trying to always be helpful. If you are looking for luxury, stay in Vegas. If you are looking for a comfortable home in natures most beautiful but harsh environments, you will love this place.
Great out of the way, beautiful, desert oasis. Great food, craft beer, and views to die for.
It's a hotel. Not particularly nice, but it's got a bed and the air conditioning works.
I see mixed reviews here. We expected something very simple even rustic. There were a few surprises. Bathroom dispensers for shampoo, soap, shower gel, conditioner, and lotion. Very clean small room w tv which we never used. In June we slept with just a cover sheet and AC on all night. Daytime temp was 123. It takes a special breed of person to make a living and a life in the middle of Death Valley. One gentleman who works there runs a fantastic night sky activity with a huge telescope. We were lucky to arrive the night of a new moon, a very dark sky, and saw several planets up close with the telescope. The next day he was offering a free three-hour tour to guests of the hotel. That tour would take people to many of the local highlights such as badwater the lowest place on earth. My husband wants to be sure I point out how wonderful the staff was.
Spartan but comfortable and above all useful for visiting the death valley
Comfortable and clean room, restaurant and bar have good food and drinks for a place with no alternatives.
There's absolutely nothing wrong with Stovepipe Wells Village. The room was okay, the restaurant was 'meh' and that averages out to three stars. I was lucky enough to get a courtyard room, which meant I could access the business centre's wifi - a top tip for you if internet access is important. The restaurant was busy, as it's the only place to eat for miles (the saloon directs you to the restaurant if you want something to eat). Dinner was ... okay ... I had the pulled pork and grits. The bbq sauce was too thick and sweet for my tastes. But I'm sure, after a long day in the heat, hiking the trails, the food hits the spot just right.
Fantastic all well-kept far west style clean and with a really delicious kitchen. Always very full so better to book in advance otherwise you will be left without availability! Menu contained in the choice but with excellent dishes well cooked and cared for! In short, don't miss it!
Stopped in for gas and to get refreshments. The gas was more pensive than outside of the park, as can be expected, but was still a lot less expensive than at Panamint Springs. They also have some nice handmade silver jewelry, but if you are interested in that, you can haggle with them to get a much better price!
Pleasant place to stop on your way through death valley.
Went to the restaurant. .. drink special... rasperry margarita. .. was super charged or I was already drunk of excitement...
Amazing shower! Great amenities for being in thr middle of nowhere
What else can you expect/ need within a national park where it was 120 degrees! The AC chilled the room, the beds were comfortable and the rooms (and bathroom) was clean. The food at the Saloon was good. The service was a little slow and the waiter mixed up our order and the bill - but i don't want to focus too much on that. The staff at check in desk was really friendly. Will definitely recommend the place and will stay here again.
The rooms are clean and comfortable with excellent views. The food and service at the saloon and restaurant were terrific. If I ever make it back to Death Valley, I will definitely be staying here.
We stayed at Stovepipe Wells in March 2013 on our California tour. Highly recommended - but expensive - $ 125 / night - but March is the season in Death Vallay.
Ate in the bar, chill cheese fries were a lil soupy but tasty, good quesedillas, nice beer and good service. Good spot to rest, gas up and grab souvenirs on the way through the hottest place on earth!
Very interesting place in the middle of the desert. Very good dinner next door. The rooms are OK. Wi-Fi is free but very slow. Nice accommodation for the transit.
Comfortable and quiet room lost in the middle of the valley of death !! Swimming pool very nice, campfire, wifi nonexistent
Near dunes and night sky views are amazing. Best if you don t wanna spend 400
Great accomodation for those staying over in Death Valley. Accomodations in Furnace Creek are definitely an option but Stovepipe Wells Hotel has more character and grit !
Loved my stay here and great bar onsite with friendtly staff.
Cheers.
I recommend the hotel. For such a deserted place is a high standard. And only within 80- 130 miles. Purely. There is no breakfast included despite the high price. Unfortunately, the gentleman at the reception could not tell me anything about visiting the valley of death because we did not come there y know the charm of this hotel. And enough to say - you have to go to the Rangers station and you will find out everything there. We received this information from the lady in the store across the street. Because and how did we know that there was a Rangers station?
Very friendly hotel in the middle of the desert. We are very surprised to find a hotel with a pool in the middle of nowhere while there is no sign of life for miles around. The atmosphere is rather retro. The rooms are clean and well air conditioned. The wifi on the other hand is quite chaotic, but overall I highly recommend this hotel.
Went here with my boyfriend and we stayed in the RV park. Was nice and quiet, plus fun bar across the road.
Great location near dunes and right next to a gas station, ranger station, and souvenir shop. The rooms of course have air conditioning. Also an ice machine was pretty nice.
Lost motel in the middle of the valley of death! It's the only oasis for miles around. The reception is very nice. The pool very good and especially the evening with the superb view of the starry sky. Magical ! There is a supermarket just opposite. Otherwise, the rooms are simple but very good. Small wink: as it is more than desert, we must monitor the water consumption. For this, in the shower there is an hourglass to monitor his time! Another positive point: the sand dunes are only about 3 miles away (see photo).
Good dinner for a restaurant in the middle of the desert.
Such a nice and unique place. Nothing around you, only rest. Only 1 restaurant nearby (in Stovepipe Wells itself), so it's very busy
I had dinner at the saloon. It was a very big and delicious meal with cheap beer. The perfect meal after walking around death valley all day. I highly recommend stopping by for a meal to break up your day and get a break from the heat.
Mike and his staff are so awesome. They made us feel at home, very welcomed and taken care of. This is our new home...
Clean.. Good gift shop... Friendly and helpful staff
This is the budget option for staying in Death Valley and I do recommend staying in the park if you can because it is hours from anywhere. The hotel is overpriced for what you get but you're paying a premium for location. My room was clean but small so larger families will need to take care. The staff was incredibly kind and attentive. There was even WiFi although it was slow due to the remoteness of the location.
Went in for lunch at the bar. Food was good, but draft beer was unavailable. And, the place was SERIOUSLY understaffed both days we were there, leading to very long waits.
Obviously really hot but the rooms have air-conditioning. They do ask you to not set it lower then 78 degrees though but that is sufficient. Food in the saloon is limited and a bit pricey but it is not too bad. Friendly service. We had a room with a broken air-conditioning but we were properly compensated with another room with working air-conditioning and free breakfast. Rooms could be a bit cleaner though. Same goes for the towels.
Staff is not really friendly - I didn t feel welcome.
Pool in general nice but with alga, should be cleaned more thoroughly.
Rooms are tiny which is okay for the location, but beds are dirty. (see picture)
Mattress is way too soft and with 2 people sleeping in the bed, one keeps falling into the middle. When moving it makes really loud noises, because the bed frames seems to be very old and overused.
Air condition is working well but smells and is very loud at night.
To sum it up: I m okay to stay 1 night. But there is lots of room for improvement. With friendly staff (probably depending on the people and the current mood) and deep cleaning of rooms and pool and new mattresses it is a little oasis in the desert.
Stovepipe Wells was our stopover during a two day drive through Death Valley. We stayed in the Panamint block and the room was a good size for a one-nighter, and perfectly clean despite some previous reviews. Bathroom was also good, with dispensers of locally sourced and manufactured shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, soap and lotion. The beds were comfortable, and the air conditioning worked fine as well. The Television worked fine with a good collection of channels, but remember this motel is in the middle of nowhere and they rely on satellite links for telecommunications. That means the free wifi is very slow. The motel manage your expectations on this, but you are talking a quick check of emails only. If you are on a long trek and booking hotels day by day, remember you will find it difficult browsing tripadvisor from Stovepipe Wells. The Panamint block is on the edge of the village complex and looks out on to the car park which after a few yards plunges into pitch black at night and gives you the opportunity to see the Death Valley starscape at its best.
The complex itself has good long opening hours and consists of a bar, restaurant, gift shop and general store, all of which are well equipped. We had dinner and breakfast in the restaurant. The breakfast buffet is really well stocked and prepped us for the next leg of the journey, while the dinner was really good. The crispy chicken salad fills you up and rehydrates you after a day in the desert. Also, their selection of wines and beers beats some city centre establishments!
The voucher for a fee bag of ice is useful for those travelling in RVs.
The outdoor swimming pool was also very good with ample size and not too much chlorine and perfectly swimmable in November. Open until midnight, you can swim under the stars, as long as you don't mind the growing number of bugs flying around your head!
The staff were really helpful, patient when I forgot my car's license number (again!) and even helping people out with finding alternative accommodation when they are full up. This goes for the reception, restaurant and the general store.
This is an economic choice for a place to sleep at the center of the death valley national park. But the other choice has to find a campground, which is not durable during daytime. It's so hot most of the year around, can be 117 degree. The temperature is acceptable at night, and early morning. Should carefully schedule to avoid any activity when close to noon. Always carry enough water, and a sun shielding stuff is necessary. The hotel is ok, and the room is very clean. But it is definitely not noise isolated. It will be bad luck to have a noisy neighbor. The wifi does not work at all. They need someone to fix it.
50 dollar hotel for 250 plus at restaurant they auto charge tip
Have stayed here many times. Always have good service. They've upgraded the rooms and are continuing to improve the property. Pet friendly and central to the park. Not cheap, but reasonable.
Just ate at restaurant. Moderate service. Ordinary food.
Wouldn't recommend it unless you were hungry .
Tourist trap everyting expensive and no good food locations.
We flew in to the nearby airstrip and wanted to check out what might be available for a longer stay. It is convenient if you fly in, and rates are reasonable.
Really cool hotel, nice staff, gas was even reslnably priced
A great stop right inside the park. You can stop and get some food, some gifts, and some water. Get a little sleep and be ready to hit the park for some of the most spectacular sunrises you'll ever see.
They have everything there. Wi-Fi only available at reception
We stopped by here for a short break driving through the dessert. It is a great place to stop for a break the food was good and not overpriced. The local beer was surprisingly the best part too. You'd never think that a place like Death Valley would yield good beer!
Very touristy, not a place you wanna hang out at when backpacking and hiking.
Stovepipe wells Village is at a very good location and its pricy. My experience was pretty bad. I stayed there for one night. They do not have electricity for the whole night, they do not know when it will be fixed. They were offering small torches which stops working after 15 minutes. The room was ok. They had gas heater in the room, which takes a loong time to start working. They have a saloon for food. Around 7pm they were out of food. Although Stovepipe Wells Village hotel offer for refund Because of electricity problem but I believe they had a Clever move in it because if you take refund, they knew there was no place to go for the night except going out of the Death Valley Park. So they didnt offer any discount or anything. All the other hotels were booked or last minute rent were too high. So stovepipe played well in fooling people and take advantage of it. If you are booking this hotel make sure you get all prepare before you reach there. Lights, batteries, food, water, extra blankets, etc because I heard this electricity issue happens once in a month or two. I paid $200 and spent the night without electricity and nothing to do.
We had just dinner here which was great! Can t speak for the accommodation but the overall look was good!
I stayed here during a storm and power outage. The 115 degree temps with no air conditioning and increased humidity was unbearable and resulted in several guests being overcome by the heat.
But these are things outside the control of the hotel. I noticed that the manager pulled a double shift to help out during the power outage. He offered flashlights to anyone who didn't have one and also provided bottled water.
Ultimately, we left early and the beds in our clean rooms went largely unused. I'm certain I would have had a better experience if we stayed literally any other night, but we got the full Death Valley experience.
The only problem I saw was that the water in the rooms was either hot or "scalding". There was no cold water and taking a shower would have been impossible.
It is one of two structures in the Death Valley park. No luxury but nice, western village style, clean and good food. I would stay there again.
Clean rooms but very loud Air condition. A nice Pool and all Personal very friendly
Convenient location in center of the park.
Restaurant and Saloon food and staff earned 4 stars.
Room was basic and clean.
Refreshing temperature in the pool despite 90+ degree days.
Howling winds left small piles of sand and grit on the carpet inside leaky door gaskets. Everything in the room was covered in a layer of fine dust in the morning.
Bed was old, sagging, noisy and way too soft.
New windows, privacy blinds and blackout shades were great.
Air-conditioner was very loud.
Had the breakfast buffet after driving all night to watch sunrise from the mesquite sand dunes. The variety was better than I expected and the quality was above par. The service was very friendly as well. Restrooms were clean.
Better than three Stars; but not quite four! But considering it's in the middle of nowhere, three stars is OK!
It's concession-operated and as such, is a pretty slick operation. General set up is funky/fun and works pretty well. I was in the RV campground, which clearly operates as an afterthought to the hotel. The common areas (registration, general store, restaurant, bar, pool) are all Old West themed and fine. Towels provided at pool. Fun international mix of clientele makes listening fun at the pool. Afternoon cookies is a nice touch, and the gift shop and general store both have a surprisingly broad range of essentials and knick-knacks.
Registration staff quite knowledgeable and nice park hand outs are available.
Downsides, if camping, are:
1. Funky system of having to go through to pool to get to the shower room, which requires a new access card each day. Weird and slightly aggravating.
2. Shower room not keep very clean. Fine if you're a hotel guest and using it only to shower before your swim, but not not clean enough if it's your only place to bathe and do your toilette.
3. Walking path from RV Camping area to main registration & shower area is poorly delineated and difficult to negotiate after dark.
