Southgate Volkswagen LP Review

Terrible post sales service "apparently I slipped through the cracks" regretting going to this dealership.

If you dont live close by dont go there expecting a better price. Was told to come on in and we can talk price. Well I drove 2.5 hours only to find out the car had more damage than I was told. Went to another car which had an even higher insurance claim but a better repair job. Tried to work out a deal. They wouldnt move a penny. This car had a $6000 insurance claim and came from Quebec and they were trying to sell it to me for the exact same price as one I found elsewhere with no insurance claim and an Alberta car. Do not drive very far to see these guys. Dont know who the Sales Manager was but my salesman was Edgar.

My family have been using Southgate Volkswagen Audi for the last 30 years. I recently replaced an older vehicle. Veer and Edgar were not only very accommodating but scoured inventory to find exactly the right vehicle that matched my needs. Their customer service was excellent and exceeded my expectations.

Jackson was very honest and helpful. He made sure that I left the dealership satisfied and knowledgeable with my new car. Thank you!

This will be my second Volkswagon from the Southgate Volkswagon dealership. Wonderful service and absolutely wonderful vehicles. As I just picked up my new beetle, I can't really say how great it is yet, but my 2014 Passat was the best vehicle I have ever had. I could drive 800 km on one tank of gas, it also never had to be plugged in, no matter what the temperature, it started. I can only hope the beetle will be as good.
As for my service at the dealership, the salesman, manager, and financial were great, no high pressure that you expect at a car dealership. Very friendly, and knowledgeable. I highly recommend Southgate Volkswagon here in Edmonton.

Went into the site today to look at the new SUV's. The salesman didn't even introduced himself, it was almost as if he didn't want to be there because its Sunday, and sunny out. Huge huge turn off!!!.. Would never enter that place every again!!!.

BUYER BEWARE - This dealer will try to rip you off any way they can.

I was trying to buy a vehicle from them and EVERY CALL the salesperson "Jackson" asked for my Credit card number. We had not negotiated a price, had not answered questions like tire size, axle ratio for towing, CarFax report.... and he just kept asking for my card to prove I am a real buyer.

Then I go online and read their reviews on DealerRater (1.9 Star out of 5) and lots of people complaining about the dealer charging them a $500-$1000 non refundable deposit.

Then we had an agreed upon a certain price and the Sales Manager Mike gave me a total amount to be charged to secure the vehicle and when I asked to break it down , it included a new $495 fee for dealer admin fees..... Buyers, never opt to pay this , its purely profit and commission, ask any car salesman.

FINALLY, once all hidden fees were exposed and eliminated the next price Mike sent to me was my trade in value. EXCEPT he presented it as a price AFTE GST REBATE. This is a false number and you can only quality for that if you are a gst registrant. This would have been another $1000+ that I would have lost.

All in All , this dealership is seems to be pretty greasy and trying to squeeze profits from every nook and cranny but in a hidden unethical way.

Bunch of tricksters

Bought brand new 2018 ATLAS, first winter with it and battery doesn t start when temperatures are below -20 neither does the remote start. Service manager requests me to call on star to have vehicle boosted, then proceed 10 hours of driving in winter conditions to have battery tested to see if Volkswagen Canada warranty will cover the cost of replacing it and as for the car remote starter basically it has a bunch of sensors that cause it not to start . Customer care is pathetic and so is Volkswagen warranty. They definitely don t stand proud behind their product nor do they strive to achieve high standards in customer care. DONT BUY THE HEADACHE that this company and product will cause you.

Our salesmen Aaron, was very helpful and approached us when no one else would. Me and my mother (Marelen) were very happy to get everything that we wanted when dealing with him and the rest of his team. They were very accommodating to what we asked for when purchasing. Bought a brand new Jetta R line. Never going to buy VW again. Car consumed Engine oil even before the first service. I know that customer is supposed to keep an eye on the oil level. But this is not normal, called them to talk about the issue and they said all they can do is get it serviced before 1000km and that is going on me to pay. They do not mean what they say while they sale the vehicles. DO NOT BUY ANY VW VEHICLES!

I recently just bought a used 2014 mustang gt from sales person Edgar Chan and his boss Jason. Edgar was very good to deal with and was very personable and reasonable. I never had any issues with both of them and the transaction went smoothly. Prior to going to southgate vw i was pretty apprehensive as I dont really like dealerships and car sales people because of all the stories you hear about people getting ripped off and stuff. I had a budget and Edgar definitely went over and beyond to make sure i dont go over it. Both him and Jason were awesome! The whole team there were awesome. Ill never go anywhere else.

Evan is a great finance manager, he offered great prices on extended warranty and other options and didn't push at all. He explained the products and pointed on pros and cons and gave me time to think and decide. Normally the car finance people try sell you products without considering your needs. Evan is very different and amazing person.

Went to this location after my check engine light came on, it was later diagnosed my Tiguan needed a new turbo. As the part was going to take a few days and a few thousand dollars I was taking my car back later that day as my car was still drivable. Shayne from service called me to tell me my car was ready for pick up and washed and ready at the front. I had to look for about 10 min to locate my still dirty car. , I looked past that and just thought when my car goes in for the part I ll make sure after they clean it. I had to pre pay for the part but called later that day to hold off on ordering it but still had my deposit for this part down so when I called they could simply order it, they said no problem. The next day I noticed all the wires still hanging down from my car and was worried but as it was in the service department I didn t think much of it and tucked them back up. Later on in the day Shayne called me and said they had forgot to put back the belly pan and another part! Instead of admitting it they made a HUGE mistake they took complete advatange of a girl who probably doesn t know much about cars to lie and say that they planned to put it on after the part was in, Keep in mind they called me that I could pick it up for a few days.... loose wires hanging down, I may be a girl but I m not a idiot. I asked to speak to a manager, Holly, in regards to this and she was in a store audit and couldn t help me at this time so called me the next day and told me she would ask what the miscommunication was and get back to me later that day. Never heard back from her, left 2 voice mails and am yet to hear anything. I wanted to get my deposit that I had to pre pay for this part and they said that they had to wait for the part to come in? I am unsure why I would have to wait for my money back when I told them not to order it I assume this was another miscommunication ? STRONGLY would not recommend doing any service through this location. And maybe it s time for a new service manager as Holly doesn t care about customer satisfaction. (Her job)

We greatly enjoyed our car buying experience and working with Brandon and Jason. Brandon was courteous, professional and made sure we were well informed about the 2018 Tiguan. Neither were pushy and we left the dealership confident in our purchase. We look forward to future visits to Southgate VW.

The overall experience is good, despite the disaster long lead towards my factory order.

There was definitely lack of communication and over promising from some of the salesmen, later on the issue was addressed and I have picked up my Golf R today. The car is awesome, but 4 months total wait is insane. I knew there were weather issues affected the shipping, however dealer was unable to provide any updates on the order till after the ETA date. Given the popularity and good deal of this car I d say it s okay-ish. All employees are nice and friendly but I wish I didn t talk to the first salesman who is over promising everything and not able to keep his words.

No names will be mentioned here, in general I think this dealer is good, able to do some nice deals comparing to Calgary dealers.

I called the parts counter for some help to learn about what will fit on my car and what wont for transmissions, and i may have needed some parts, the parts person was very rude and cutting me off during the conversation and basically said "if it isnt making us money right now i dont care" and had a gerrable attitude towards me when i just wanted to know information about my transmission. But i will now take my buisness to somewhere else. Ill just buy everything online hah.

We are very busy parents and live 2.5 hours out of Edmonton. After a few conversations on the phone, Mark agreed to meet on the only day that would work for us (on his day off). Mark and his coworkers were nothing but awesome to get the deal done and back on the road. Two big thumbs up!!!

Seriously disappointed with Southgate and won't be going back. I bought 4 cars from them from 2009 - 2016. Ended up going to Sherwood Park last year after I found that everyone I knew was gone from the dealership. I went back last week and a salesman was there that I bought from previously. Great guy and tried to help, but the sales manager was a sore disappointment. Being a very loyal customer, I expected to get a good deal on a Golf R. I was so beyond frustrated when they come back with the numbers, only to find that after discussing that I wanted monthly payments, and what I was currently paying, they come back with a lower number and it looked great! But didn't seem right. Ended up finding out it was bi weekly. We never discussed bi weekly, but I feel it was a shady attempt to get my business. I ended up going to Sherwood Park VW and they were very up front and honest and gave me a WAY better deal. I can't stand dealerships that are dishonest, and use gimmickly sales tactics to try and earn business. I will not be returning to Southgate again.
I saved thousands of dollars by going to Sherwood Park.

We first went to Norden VW as it was much closer distance to travel and had terrible service. So I called Southgate VW and had better service on the phone and had the numbers for the car we were looking at matching the budget I provided within an hour. I was won over on the phone alone, so we traveled the extra KM and have been happy with the customer service provided. No pushy sales person, someone who listens and was able to provide us what we were looking for. Shoutout to Jackson (sales) and Rio (finance)!

This dealership is by far the best i've ever been to. The staff is always friendly and ready to help you in any way possible. there was no pushy sales people and they don't trick you into a bunch of fees and pointless costs like goauto and auto Canada. I would highly recommend this dealership to anyone looking for a new or used car.

Booked an appt for a recall and one other issue, I mentioned money was tight and to call me with any problems. They disregarded that and couldn t fix what I requested so decided to keep running trials (although I asked to call before changing any plans/ charging more). They then continued to charge me with the time for doing that and nothing was fixed or resolved. They also charged me for looking into what was a recall. Horrible experience.

The staff at Southgate did a great job from sales to financing to their management team.
After having said that they still managed to bring it up a notch on final inspection prior to us taking possession. We found some rust that we did not see on the test drive or during inspections of vehicle. They brought in the manager and after a short discussion they agreed to keep the vehicle and have their body shop clean up the rust and repaint it. When doing that they also polished out some scratches on the rear bumper.
I can say they did an excellent job on their first post sale service. They didn t have to go as far as they did but I am sure glad they did.
We are really happy with with our new to us 2012 TDi.
This is not my first VW but it is my first purchase at Southgate Volkswagen and likely not my last.

But May I suggest the sales staff offer to bring vehicles indoors for prospective purchaser to get a thorough look at. This would have saved us both some time.

Update: They're even shadier and claim that the oil changes weren't part of the deal and that I had asked to prepay for those oil changes. I got the money back but now they took the oil changes off my account. Great service next door at Volvo of Edmonton, I'd recommend going there.

A few days later Marvin (GM) finally returns my call and yells at me about how it's "for accounting purposes". I said the deal was I get the car at the price we agreed on and they throw 5 oil changes in. This clown claims I asked to prepay for 5 oil changes at $220 each.

Dan was great, super helpful with my test drive. Always super professional, including his followup call after he heard about the rest of my experience. Kyle, the sales manager, said it would be easier to deal with him on it so I had been going back and forth with him over a couple days. We came to a deal with 5 oil changes included. Instead of giving them for free, he tried to slip an $1100 charge for them ($220 each?). Only reason I didn't walk away is Dan didn't deserve to lose the sale because of his manager.

I also wasn't told they didn't have the spare key until I went to pick the car up and I was told they could hook me up with a deal on one.

Keagan and Evan were amazing. They made my transition from an Audi A4 to a Jetta very smooth. Evan even picked me up at home and drove me in. Keagen did a thorough job explaining every feature of my new car. Much appreciation to Keagen, Evan and Jason. I loved how they made a real effort to use my first name and confirm I was happy/satisfied. I highly recommend them and Southgate VW.

Unfortunately I felt the Sales Team was trying to be dishonest with me. When I went to pick up my Golf R I purchased, The vehicle had different rims on it and when I questioned the Sales people about this there comment was"Oh you didn't want those rims" I replied "This is not the vehicle I purchased". After further disputing and discussions in the end VW southgate did correct the error of my vehicle and replaced the rims to the ones I purchased and the finance team was very friendly and tried there best to make things better for me but unfortunately my experience with VW Southgate started off on the wrong foot. This mades are things difficult for me to trust anyone on VW Southgate staff throughout the entire process. I have purchased many vehicles in my past. This was for sure the worst car buying experience for me.

Was accommodated to drop off my vehicle the evening before the early morning appointment. When picked up the vehicle everything was done perfectly and new command start installed - vehicle returned to me when promised and as I had left it - no mess made inside from the installation! Very pleased with the professional service received.

Staff were helpful, didn't overburden me with options. They got me in the car I wanted.

Dealers who are not trustworthy, talk about a good price, and I will never go to this dealer again. I strongly suggest not to go.

Went in looking for a used 2019 vehicle advertised with adaptive cruise and was immediately "advised" to avoid them told they didn't have adaptive cruise and pushed towards new. Classic bait and switch attempt. Amateurs lost a sale and a customer who will go elsewhere.

Provided the information to the sales person (Edgar Chan), and instead of giving me the typical run around, he found 2 options that fit the exact range of what I was looking for. No run arounds, no haggling, just straight up found me what I asked for. Highly recommended. Been driving the vehicles for a number of months now and a bunch of road trips, and is exactly what I had hoped for.
