The staff was friendly. The location is great. But this hotel is over priced and shouldn t be listed as a 5 star hotel. I only paid 69$ a night because I have a family member who works for Marriot the room I stayed in nightly rate was 169$ a night.

This hotel still uses key cards, having a key on your phone is way more convenient. The room services where suspended due to COVID which is understandable but they didn t have cleaning staff to replace your linen or towels, that should have been told to me when I arrived. I was there from Thursday till Saturday so 3 days 2 nights. Trash was never picked up. I ordered takes out and went shopping all the trash associated with shopping and takeout just sat in my room. I had no idea where to take it. I was told to just sit it and my towels outside the door and to get more towels from the front desk which was annoying to do after a long day just to return to a hotel and not have those things already taken care of.

The feel of the hotel is old fashioned. The fixtures, color, and the bathrooms where all outdated. My Iron was broken, I called for a new one someone dropped off the new one and left the old broken one in the room. And maintenance had to be called to unclog the tub which drained slow leaving you to shower in standing water.

It did have a microwave and mini fridge which should be standard in all room. But other where substandard With the name Sheraton or Marriott name attached to it. I wasn t impressed.

If I had to pay full price I would have not stayed I would have just saved myself valet which is 37$ a day and stayed at a motel 6. I normally stay at Fairfield they are more modern feel glass. And reasonably priced.

Overall the experience is ok. The staff was great. But y all need to revamp that hotel or lower your prices.

The staff was super friendly and helpful. The rooms were comfortable and outfitted with every amenity that I needed, I even had a robe! This hotel is in a great central location to the Riverwalk. I will stay here again!

The lobby and club rooms are very nice. Club room had good wines and hot breakfast. The location is also great, just 3 minutes walk from the Riverwalk.

The rooms are large but in need of an uplift. Furniture and paint look very old. One of the rooms I stayed in had a mild smell. I did not notice it after a while, but definitely did when I walk in.

It is a beautiful place! Since you arrive they have parking lot so you do not have to worry about finding parking, when you enter the lobby they have an impressive decoration from there and they make you feel important, having breakfast in the restaurant transports you to Italy with so many good wines and the fruit that you decorate The bars have a view towards the street facing the Majestic Teather so these are naturally in another place and time, the food is very rich, excellent service from the staff and they speak Spanish! What makes it even more interesting. The rooms are beautiful and with a beautiful view, I would go back again and again!

Amazing experience, amazing location, building, quality, and everything. Great pricing offered for quality of stay. Rooms were clean, up-to-date but had that old preserved beauty. Everything worked perfectly. Even offered a microwave in the room. Would stay again. The bed was so amazing, I stayed asleep in the same position the entire night and woke up feeling great.

We had a room block at the Sheraton Gunter for our son's out of town wedding guests. My son and his fiance / wife also stayed there. Everything went very smoothly and the guests all had a good time, especially in the Bar 414, after the rehearsal dinner and even after the wedding! But the best thing was that the staff (Tina Gonzales in particular) upgraded the bride and groom to a "bridal" suite at no additional charge. As I told Tina, they enjoyed that room immensely and it made it so easy to do the makeup and hair for all the bridesmaids, mothers, and the bride: in fact, I think we would have had a hard time doing all of that in a normal room. Great stay and great time! Very much appreciated.

The hotel was beautiful. I slept in a double which was large enough for 4 ppl and much larger than I thought it would have been. The parking is pricey at $32 for overnight so I parked in a lot next door. I did not use the restaurant or bar areas. I did bring my dog with me but was not instructed to a dog area.

If you are a history or architecture fan, you will love the Gunter. If you are just looking for a great location downtown, it fits the bill too. Great location- right across the street from the Majestic Theatre, two blocks from the Riverwalk and a short walk to the Alamo. Although a historic building it has all of the furnishings and amenities you would expect from a Sheraton property. Parking is valet only, so if you have a car be prepared to add about $25 per day to your bill. Great old fashioned bar on the ground level.

One of the best hotels we've stayed at. Within walking distance to the riverwalk and the Alamo. wasn't crazy about the $32 a night parking, but the rate was cheaper than the other riverfront hotels. The hotel oozes with historic charm. Must see the basement floor with some extra historical items. At times I felt I was in the shining hotel. Room was super big and bathroom area was very clean. But the big draw is the vicinity to everything without the price.

The hotel is in a great location and has an older charm, which I enjoy quite a bit, but I didn't enjoy my stay as much as I expected to. The linens on the bed were damp the first night we stayed. The mattress was a yellowed, stained, and uncomfortable heap that seemed older than San Antonio. The duvet cover was torn/the zipper did not work. They do not use fitted sheets for the beds, opting for a flat sheet tucked in instead. I am restless sleeper and woke up multiple tines, both nights, to be laying partially on a bare matress.... Sick! We requested a mini fridge and were told one would be sent to us or we would get a call to let us know they were out. We did not receive the fridge or a follow up call. Valet parking is mandatory and costs $32/day. This would be fine if the valet driver that received our car the first time was not rude and if they handled the car with a little more care. The windows had a bad privacy frost job, the floors were dirty, and one of the key cards did not work for the lounge. For the price I expected better. I'd never stay here again, given the wide range of options available in the area. I voiced my concerns to the staff multiple times and received apologies but nothing in the way of a fix.

The a.c. was really loud and didn't seem to work well enough considering it was 100 degrees, but everything else was perfect. The building is amazing, and the bar down downstairs is totally awesome!

We just checked in about four hours ago and this review needs to be written - the first night of a three night stay.

This is the worst SGP hotel room I've ever datasets in. A Gold status perk is an upgrade at check-in, but it felt like the exact opposite when you compare the online photos of a king room to the one we are staying in.

A 10 second back story: I've been banking my SPG points for quite some time and was ready to cash them in, booking our stay a few weeks in advance. I turned a blind eye to the less-than-stellar Google reviews because the location of this hotel - San Antonio River Walk - was more the most important factor for us (the biggest complaint seemed to bed the older rooms and outdated decor - which we could survive). Plus, it's an SPG hotel - I'm a fan of the brand so there's a level of quality and certain criteria that SPG hotels are held to, right?

Wrong. This hotel is so off-brand it hurts. And when I say off-brand, I don't mean hallway signage or color schemes - I mean that this hotel is the dirtiest SPG hotel I've ever stayed in. I literally cannot believe this is a Sheraton.

The downstairs is stunning, the front desk agent was beyond accommodating and kind - but as soon as we walked into our room, all of that melted away.

Photos are of our real room and posted as evidence.

I'm giving this hotel two stars because of Marcus at the front desk - SPG always has such amazing people working for them! Marcus was a delight and we hope the very best for him. He made check-in very easy and carried with him the SPG quality that brand fans just l love. Two stars because of Marcus.

PS. You might be asking... why don't they call down to the front desk and just ask for another room? I have a feeling in the pit of my stomach that this is one of the 'nicer' rooms. I can't imagine walking into another room and having all of these feelings repeated. Marcus can't fix what needs fixing.

If anyone from Starwood is reading this, send someone in from HQ to assess and resurrect. This experience not only cost a Gold Status member 21,000 points, but chipped away at the trusted relationship I had with this company.

Truly a wonderful location and services. Room was clean and no funky smells. Close to a lot of entertainment and food options. My only complaint was I had very loud neighbors, not the hotels fault.

We recently booked this hotel for several associates while in town and it was an excellent choice. If you're in town for business this hotel has a historic feel with modern amenities and a perfect location.

Definitely a historic hotel that has been updated and probably need some additional updating. The bar and restaurant are both nice. It is across the street from the theatre which is nice. Rooms were adequate nothing special bed with a little uncomfortable but overall a good stay

First room we got (720) is definitely not worth the money! Stinks like hell as it's damp and smells like there is mold. Room is freezing as insulation sucks and loads of street noise despite being on the 7th floor. Worst of all is though the extra-tiny bathcorner, that has on top a 4-inch-gap to it that's nowhere warned off. Therefore my wife hurt her ankle by smacking it into the concrete. Therefore we got upgraded to a "preferred guest"-room, which was a totally different world. Very nice, spacious and a lot quieter than the first one. Hotel conveniently located in downtown with Starbucks across the street or the bakery in the hotel. Would return again there.

Booked though Priceline. Very nice hotel for the money. Bar closes pretty early for a Saturday night. Our room had terrible AC. Couldn't get the room cooler than 75 deg. Difficult to sleep.

The Sheraton Gunter is a beautiful & luxurious hotel. It is a very old building, so, our room was not the best. We got a deal on it, so maybe they put us in the deal room, idk. I would definitely give them another try, like next time I'm down town, I'll see if I can look around at some other rooms. Room 614, the bathroom had no ventilator or sink in it.

We were initially very glad to be staying here. It's in great location. But we had immediate problems with the room. The hotel is old inside and although that can be great in this case the tv didn't work. The air conditioning was out and there was no hot water. Kind of like camping. So they moved us to another room. Its was marginally better but very oddly designed. The duct work for the air was part of the ceiling and was very noisy. So almost impossible to hear or sleep. At this point we just decided to make due. The surrounding area was filled with aggressive street people. We were warned by the hotel about them and walking to the riverwalk was a gauntlet of many many in your face people until you make it to the riverwalk. I would stay right on the riverwalk next time and avoid the upper street altogether if possible.

I would give it 0 stars. But I can t. First off. They over charged us. We didn t get the room we paid for. When asked. The staff all these excuses. They gave us $20 off. Which was ok I guess! We get to our room. There was a moldy/mildew smell as soon as the we opened the door. The staff was great at giving us another room on another floor. As soon as the elevator opened. The smell was worse. We went to the room anyway. And that room smelled worse!! Basically while waiting in line to speak with the front staff once again. Two gentleman was asking if there issue had been fixed. They had water leaking on them in there bathroom. Very very very disappointed in this Sheraton hotel.. my husband and I travel lots and stay at Sheraton... always had a great experience. This one was far horrible! Sheraton needs to do something regarding this hotel. After traveling for 7 hours. We were stuck trying to get another hotel!! Not a good experience!!

Our experience was excellent here. We received great customer service from all staff, a complimentary upgrade for our room so the four of us had a bed to sleep on, and the location was great. For being the second oldest hotel in the area, they have done a great job updating. Definitely look forward to staying here again.

I took my girls on a weekend trip to "celebrate my birthday" but really we were going to do fun things for them.
When I got there the staff treated us so amazing that we will definitely make this our home away from home. I recommend them wholeheartedly.

This is my second stay at this fabulous hotel. Beautifully appointed rooms, excellent beds with deluxe linens, no pet fees, right near the Riverwalk, super friendly staff. After checking online, I called the hotel directly. With my AARP card, I got a better deal than on the internet. $106 for a large King room, complimentary parking and free breakfast!! Parking is normally $32 plus tax. With the free breakfast, a tremendous deal for such a luxury facility. Highly recommend. *****

This hotel is a beautiful piece of history in a gorgeous and walkable section of the city near both the Alamo and the riverwalk.
The lobby looks immaculate and well kept. The trappings of a classic refurbished hotel are kept with the mail drop box and classic cafe in the entry. There the allure stopped. Typical older building ceiling height, very limited noise reduction, older design interior, I was underwhelmed. Decent hotel and good staff for a busy full hotel, but I'll try my luck at any other place next time around.

Very nice staff and very accommodating. Rooms are pretty clean and spacious. If you have club platinum membership go to the club on the 2nd floor and you get to eat some small plates and have coffee and cheese for no charge. They only charge for alcoholic drinks!

I wouldnt never go to the hotel again baf experience.... the onky good thing was customer service that came to your room when you ordered food.. and the restaurant area.. but the front desk and valet parking were really rude and didnt make us feel welcomed... the bathroom had two leaks and the a/c didnt work right...

Fantastic stay. The hotel has been recently remodelled, but kept just enough of the historic charm. Thouroughly enjoyed the breakfast at the restauraunt, but the free breakfast included with the club upgrade was less than desirable. We chose to not use it. The beds and linens were amazing.
