Rooms were small and dated. Couldn't tell if they were going for well worn sheik or if it was just well worn. Friendly staff, common and meeting room areas were nice.

I stayed at this hotel for my company party on December 7th. The company I work for covered all the expenses. Everything was adequate until check out. While checking out the desk clerk said I had charged some drinks at the bar which I didn't since I had all the free drinks I wanted at the company party. At this point another other clerk interrupted in a condescending voice accused me of charging the drinks to my room and not knowing it. Again I stated that I had not purchased anything from the hotel or even been to the bar. Reluctantly the the female clerk said they would take the charge off. One week later I check my card statement and the charge is now on the card. I called the hotel to dispute the charge and the person on the phone said they couldn't do anything about the charge. She said I could email the accounting department and if they are not busy they would get back to me in 7- 10 days. This type of service is unacceptable especially when the company I work for spent thousands of dollars paying for rooms at the hotel for every employee. I will definitely recommend a different hotel for next years company party.
As a flight attendant I stay at a lot of hotels and this one blew the others out of the water! My room was so clean and I was welcomed with slippers! What really made my stay different was the front desk service! Justin was amazing! He assisted me with a smile and made me feel welcomed! I will always remember my visit here because of how he went above and beyond! Sheraton should be proud to have him!
Great hotel, and an awseome experience with ghost guides for this haunted hotel.
The ambiance was very relaxing and the staff was exceptional. They eye candy was delicious
Great staff. Very clean & beds are very comfortable. We haven't found a snack machine but Walgreens is a block away.
Nice hotel and conference facilities. Rooms are nice even if the bathrooms are a little dated. The location is fantastic. Very short walk to the river walk and Alamo. Free slow speed wifi and not too much per day for high speed.
Sercice was great no problems and bell desk employees were kind
Very excellent service, for the price of the room it was a great deal.
It was really nice but sometimes hard to find. Housekeeping seems to be active which is good and everything else went well as expected.
Beautiful hotel with so much character. I just wish the restaurant was open. Will have to go back after COVID.
This place is a dump. Super dated and incredibly small rooms. As an SPG Gold, my room (#817) had paint peeling off the walls, tons of dings on the doors and walls, possible mold in the bathroom (either that or it just wasn't properly cleaned), a loud A/C, etc. There's something to be said for old, charming hotels, but this one was not charming whatsoever, it was just generally dated and gross. I've stayed at 6-7 other hotels downtown than this one and all have been significantly nicer, so try your luck elsewhere.
It was a lovely experience. A very well kept establishment in a prime location.
This hotel is decent. I say that because it cost as much as a newer Marriott or Hyatt regency. However it's very dated and almost has a feel like the Shinning. There's also not a lot of amenities. Bar was closed at 1. Most of all the staff was horrible. Very rude and robotic. Sarcastic and made me feel really dumb. The rudest employee was Jeremiah the front desk receptionist.
Nice place a little dated very large rooms and their Lounge is very nice restaurant for dinner little to be desired restaurant for breakfast. Overall great place
Having a great time in San Antonio...jazz, good food and drinks.. and the Sheraton Gunter on Houston St super friendly and helpful staff.. great ambience.
Well first of all they told us the rooms are desinfect but they don't cleaning every day . And of course bathroom are super dirty with hair around the floor... carpet smell so bad theres no coffe machine.. no microwave.. this hotel it's not even 2 star hotel luxury first floor just like.the pictures but rooms suckss
The bathroom is a little small the beds were comfortable
Booked a king deluxe room and they didn't have any available...put in a smaller room. Was not happy but the staff was pleasant.
This is a nice hotel. The theme has a Victorian feel with a modern twist. Large TV's in the room and comfy beds.
I stayed 3 nights on business. The room is average. The location and the service are excellent.
Room was nice, but not the size we needed and weren't able to accommodate us when asked about switching. ...hotel is beautiful and location is amazing.
My wife stays in about 100 hotels a year. She with here company stayed here 5 days. For the first time ever she had things stolen her room. Mainly her make-up. She had just replenished and most of it was new. Either the maids took it or someone with a key. I would think that if someone broke in they would have taken more. She also stated service was not good in any section of the hotel
I really loved my stay at this hotel. Lobby was beautiful, it feels like this hotel as on the older side but still was kept up with - I loved the vintage feel. My hair dryer broke and the delivered a replacement in a timely matter, thank you! Bed was comfortable and I had a great night sleep. Can't wait to stay here again!
We were on our 16th Wedding Anniversary with our children. I would have to say the rooms were very disappointing. I know it is an older building but my expectations for the rooms was not supplied. The bathrooms were very small and it seems that the bathroom was not cleaned properly. There was hair on the floor by the tub, the tub and toilet looked dirty and there was a rubber band stuck in the sink stopper. Every time I used the bathroom I just felt like I was at a dirty rest area. It seems like there is more attention and charm placed on the lobby then attention to the cleanliness of the rooms. For the price I just thought this hotel was going to be a very nice choice, but I will know the next time go with my gut feeling and pick another one for my stay. I already dislike staying in hotels and to have this experience was very disappointing.
I will not be staying in this hotel again for my next visit to San Antonio, they have to do a better job on keeping those rooms much cleaner. It is just not cool especially for the price that is being paid to stay there.
The only good thing I can say about the hotel is the restaurant staff is very nice because they helped me get some rice from the kitchen for my phone when I got it wet. The front desk staff was very nice and when we left she did ask me how was my stay but we were so ready to get out of there, I just said it was fine and checked out because I wanted to just leave and not look back. That is just had bad I felt the rooms left me feeling.
The attractions was nice, we enjoyed the river walk, restaurants and other attractions around the area. Sorry that this review is long but it needs to be said.
Had an excellent family brunch that almost ran through dinner. It was a buffet loaded with goodies and the atmosphere was one of mild sophistication
Thanks San Antonio for taking care of Hurricane Harvey refugees
Great location to all downtown San Antonio. Helpful staff up front.
It is a beautiful and old hotel located in the heart of downtown San Antonio!
Good for overnight stay for couple of days. Walking distance from river walk.
Well maintained in its past glory! Extremely great location along one of the busiest pedestrian streets in San Antonio just one block off the River Walk.
I have worked in hospitality industry specializing in training and development for years and was completely blown away with the level of hospitality provided by the staff at the Gunter!
Vinent from valet was our first point of contact upon arrival. He was as helpful as he was unforgettable! The staff at the front desk was quite memorable as well from the gentleman with the perfect mustache to the delightful lady, I remember as Nan who was "as sweet as a cupcake topping!" Who needs coffee to start their day when she"s around!
The Entire staff at Market on Houston (MOH) was beyond reproach with their professionalism and care. Ray assisted us with the most succulent dishes this side of the Mississippi. We felt as though we were in a 5 star dining experience. The chef's Alice, Jennifer and Rudy all stopped by to greet us and check on us! The young ladies at the coffee bar and cooks at the brick oven also greeted us warmly. We really felt as though we were royalty while staying and dining at this historical place!
This place still has a whiff of the old style hotels. Room was large with a view of a brick wall. I was worried it would be loud(because it's old af) but not bad at all! I wish it was more haunted than it is.
It's a much older hotel but price and location were great. Kept up very well
Kind and wonderful staff, beautiful building, room was small, but sufficient. Location was excellent, just a quick walk from river and restaurants.
Really beautiful hotel great staff and wonderful location to see City and go to Majestic theater
Double charged credit card and after 3+ weeks no response or solution. #SPG corporate doesn't help. Rooms are super old and not well kept. I'm platinum and am considering other brands bc of the lack of urgency on fixing my billing issue.
I ve had consistently great experiences with the Marriott family of historic hotels. This was a work trip so I did not realize the historical significance of this place until I arrived. Seeing the Robert Johnson records and photos in the lobby reminded me that he had recorded in here back in the 30 s. I looked it up and sure enough he had recorded in room 414 at the Gunter Hotel!
The hotel room was not the fanciest but it was clean and in good repair of a little dated. The lobby is great and valet was prompt.
I am not one to write bad reviews, and I have never had horrible service. First I had to park outside of the hotel because they were full to capcity. So when I finally did find a parking lot, I came back and they didn't have the room we had booked. When they "finally found a room" for us we go upstairs and leave to downtown SA. When we came back the elevator takes us up to the 8th floor and the doors wouldn't open. I WILL NEVER COME back to this hotel again. To top it off I get up to go to the back and see cars leaving. I ask can I come and bring my car. The valet say that they are full. Even though I clearly saw vechiles leaving.
My room's AC works, but not great. The carpet feels sticky. But most of all, because of the staff and how they treated us ws shall not be recommending it to anyone I know.
Great place with excellent views. Totally recommend.
Where to start? Antiquated rooms....oh, and did I say small, antiquated rooms? The staff is wonderful or it would have been a one.
I stayed with four other friends in two rooms that are connected with a suite. The rooms and bathrooms were clean. The club members room provides snacks and beverages all day round.
The hotel location is central in downtown San Antonio. It is is a walk away from the Alamo, city visitors center and the various entrances to the river walk.
Staff is friendly and accommodating. We stayed in a large corner room that had a great view of the city.
I worked maitance there the management insist on half as cut the corner work
The hotel was good, great guest services. Restaurant on site. The hotel is a historic building, and has a great amount of history as well as ghost stories to go along with building.
Motel 6 has more comfortable rooms than here. No hot water, not even warm. You are told when you arrive, you can park here for $32 per night, or you can go somewhere else to park. The staff told me not to leave my car outside while I checked in. There was a wedding finishing and I would be in the way. Gurgling sounds from the plumbing all night. This is the Sheraton. We won't be staying here again. There was a hair in the bath towels. That one was was unacceptable.
It is a great location but not much beyond that. It has small rooms and the amenities are ok. I think they could play up a lot more of the historic feel and make the experience a lot better.
Sheraton Gunter has always been a good hotel for me. I drive a new f-350 longbed. They always accept it in Valet. Unlike most riverwalk hotels. They have always treated us well and the rooms are always in good working order. On our last visit, me and my sister shared a room with my 2.5 year old son. That night we realized that we needed milk for him. He wanted it to go to bed. The last time this happened was at Rivercenter Marriott. No one could help so I ran to IHOP for his milk. At Sheraton, my sister went down stairs to the bar and asked if she could buy some milk. They said they did not have any. And had no access to the restaurant milk. The concierge told her he had a place to check. He then ran to the closest store and came back with a bottle of milk. And refused to accept payment.. This hotel has earned a SOLID 5 in my opinion.
The rooms and bathrooms need updated fixtures. The bathroom in my 12th floor room looked more like a locker room than nice hotel. The bed is comfortable and the executive club is a really nice addition. Overall the hotel just needs some fixture upgrades and improved internet service.
Looks elegant from the outside and in the lobby but the rooms ! I think I could of gotten a better room in a motel 6
Fantastic customer service here. The rooms are quite old and could do with a renovation. Beautiful lobby and historic hotel, hot breakfast buffet is great at the Market on Houston restaurant.
Room didn't match the pictures. The bathroom door hit the toilet. The shower was built for people who are 5' 9". The bed hurt my back and neck.
The location of the Sheraton Gunter Hotel is great, only 1/2 a block or so away from the Riverwalk. We arrived for check-in about 9:30 to find the hotel evacuated due to a fire. Do not fault the hotel for this issue. It took about 45 minutes for the Free Marshal to let everyone back in. We check in and are provided our room keys. We hike up 5 flights of stairs as the hotel guests tied were lined up to get to the elevator through the lobby. When we arrive at the room the keys do not work. We were able to catch an elevator back down to the lobby and get new keys. Hike back to the room. The door opens to find the room is occupied by another couple! We went back down again, extremely frustrated at the point, and get a new room assigned to us with new keys. This room was not as fully clean as there was thick dust on the back of the bathroom door. Not what I expect from Sheraton! That said, the were very apologetic and provided our room for free. Not a good experience, but Sheraton did attempt to make it right.
Staff was super friendly. Location was perfect. Shops and restaurants were all walking distance.
The location is a little difficult to find. The lobby is beautiful, and Diane was amazing with checking us in. Unfortunately, the room we are in has a loud clanging from pipes hidden in the wall of the main room, and in the bathroom.
New years eve, my friends and I slipped into an unassuming door along the street, and found ourselves in the Sheraton bar. The atmosphere was pleasantly quiet, despite the occasion and commotion outside. The bar was a classy establishment where we had a couple drinks before leaving to walk midnight on the Riverwalk.
It's fine, well located. A little old, the bathroom maybe a bit small for the category of the hotel but it is very good.
Nice size room with 2 queen beds. hotel is within blocks of the river walk and the Alamo plaza. outside pool was nice.
I am not a Sheraton fan but have to say this historic property is nice, clean and comfortable. May make me willing to try other Sheraton properties. Computers and business center not well maintained. Pool doesn't look well maintained either. Some of the staff are not interested in their jobs.
Rodeo's in town...time to charge $300 for an old room worth $179 on a good day. Old hotel. Small TV about 15 feet away from the bed. Hot temp spikes in the shower.
This hotel has a great
location to the riverwalk, This is a very very old hotel with a lot of class The rooms are extremely small and you hear a lot of noise from the city. The bathrooms are like being in Europe, they are very small. I've stayed here maybe a handful of times and I normally have a good experience. My latest experience was not so good... the bed was awful, the mattress was woped and old. The Room location was
outside the hotel elevator doors and you could hear the ding of the elevator all night and day long.
Very nice hotel and traditional warm and friendly service
Perfect location, aging but nice hotel. Do not order a taxi via the hotel, do Lift/Uber or order yourself.
Asked to move rooms because our AC wasn't working properly. Moved us in 5 min. Nice older building in downtown SA close to the riverwalk.
The good : Location, lobby, history, staff, beds The bad : it's a historical property, you aren't gonna stay here for the amenities or chick factor but it's still comfortable and doesn't feel dated. The ugly : I guess it's supposed to be haunted so if that's not your thing maybe not your hotel
Pretty nice place, it is sorta small ish in that its design is definitely old as the hotel is 110 years old, it's in a good location and the 2 bars are great, enjoyed it over all
I couldn't believe my eyes and ears as a hear a housekeeper telling her co workers how drunk she was and she was in the hallway throwing up that was very unprofessional
Awesome barbershop in the basement! The guys are great, this is my place now!
Bellismo hotel, super friendly staff beautiful restaurant everything well cleaned, thanks for treating us with respect of course that I wanted to stay longer
One of the worst experiences with management at any hotel. I was going with a friend and he made the reservation for us. He forgot to list me as someone who could check in so he had to call the hotel to do that (they wouldn't just talk to him on my phone). Someone besides the woman I was speaking with answered the phone first and talked to him, but she made him call again because she wasn't the one that spoke with him, despite him speaking directly to a hotel employee and making that request. We were told no money was due until check out but they charged my card almost 600 (200 more than our weekend cost) at check in, depleting me off all finances. It's been a couple days since check out and we payed on separate cards but they have still yet to reverse the charge on my other card, essentially charging us twice. At checkout they increased their nightly rate by 30 dollars before taxes and refused to lower it despite being shown proof of the rate that we booked at. We also received a 250 dollar smoking charge because they thought they could smell it, but neither of us are smokers and none of our other friends we came with thought it smelled like smoke. After expressing our displeasure with people at other establishments we visited that weekend they told us they weren't surprised and people frequently have problems. Will never go back, will never recommend.
Visited while attending a conference. Excellent service. Great meeting rooms. Food and beverage service were excellent.
I really enjoyed staying at the Sheraton Gunter Hotel. Perfect location, the rooms were very nice and the service was A+. Very convenient to the River Walk and lots of restaurants.
A hotel with atmosphere and history. Tragic breakfasts
Great location! Riverwalk is within 1/2 a block. Staff was great. Will plan to stay again.
Been to riverwalk many times, but first (and last) time staying at this hotel. Room was tiny, walls were paper thin, and smell of smoke permeated floor... Just not what you'd expect from a 4-star hotel.
The hotel staff (front desk, bartenders) was very friendly and approachable. The hotel lobby, public restrooms, and guest rooms were all very clean. The hotel itself was easy to find and a short walk away from the Riverwalk.
