Elizabeth Pearson Review of Sheraton Gunter Hotel

We just checked in about four hours ago and this review needs to be written - the first night of a three night stay.
This is the worst SGP hotel room I've ever datasets in. A Gold status perk is an upgrade at check-in, but it felt like the exact opposite when you compare the online photos of a king room to the one we are staying in.
A 10 second back story: I've been banking my SPG points for quite some time and was ready to cash them in, booking our stay a few weeks in advance. I turned a blind eye to the less-than-stellar Google reviews because the location of this hotel - San Antonio River Walk - was more the most important factor for us (the biggest complaint seemed to bed the older rooms and outdated decor - which we could survive). Plus, it's an SPG hotel - I'm a fan of the brand so there's a level of quality and certain criteria that SPG hotels are held to, right?
Wrong. This hotel is so off-brand it hurts. And when I say off-brand, I don't mean hallway signage or color schemes - I mean that this hotel is the dirtiest SPG hotel I've ever stayed in. I literally cannot believe this is a Sheraton.
The downstairs is stunning, the front desk agent was beyond accommodating and kind - but as soon as we walked into our room, all of that melted away.
Photos are of our real room and posted as evidence.
I'm giving this hotel two stars because of Marcus at the front desk - SPG always has such amazing people working for them! Marcus was a delight and we hope the very best for him. He made check-in very easy and carried with him the SPG quality that brand fans just l love. Two stars because of Marcus.
PS. You might be asking... why don't they call down to the front desk and just ask for another room? I have a feeling in the pit of my stomach that this is one of the 'nicer' rooms. I can't imagine walking into another room and having all of these feelings repeated. Marcus can't fix what needs fixing.
If anyone from Starwood is reading this, send someone in from HQ to assess and resurrect. This experience not only cost a Gold Status member 21,000 points, but chipped away at the trusted relationship I had with this company.
