Amazing experience. We had a fantastic time enjoying one of their club rooms. It's an older building but Jen has undertaken an excellent renovation making this a great place to stay. The club on level 16 has recently been done up and the staff do a top job. The only area that could be modernised is the pool. It's fine just a bit dated. This is very minor compared to our overall experience. Well done to the Jen team!

The hotel is in a great location within walking distance to the yummy food along Penang Road! The room is clean and comfortable as expected, the interior furnishing is also very modern! Oh and the hotel allowed us to check-in as early as 10am, a very pleasant bonus! :)

Very bad experience, don't recommend this hotel. Booked a room for 4 (2+2) and when arrived was told only rooms for 3 (2+1) are available.
Then room was not ready on time and even at the time we were asked to come back the room was still not ready.

Popular hotel in a good location in Penang, Malaysia. There are plenty of guests in the hotel with both local and overseas tourists. Rooms were spacious even after placing an extra bed in the room.

Overall, My parents and I had a pleasant 3D2N stay at Hotel Jen Penang. We booked the Family Room and is able to access to the exclusive Club Lounge, which had a decent offering of food and drinks, giving us a relaxing time we want.

The Family room is very comfortable, the sofa bed is big which is a plus point for an only child like me. The service is excellent. For instance, when bringing up our luggage to the room, helping my parents with the breakfast and front desk for assisting us to the attractions around the hotel.

The kindness and helpfulness of the hotel staff was overwhelming. Anytime we would recommend and visit your hotel again. All in all a very pleasent place to stay.
Unfortunately, but not so important, there is no elevator from car park to reception level.
Thanks again to the staff and the remarkable help of reception including of the one who helped us in terms of our car problem.

First of all,

First of all,
On behalf of my family I want to thank Hotel Jen staff for welcoming us with warmth during our five day stay in Penang.

We've never experienced a welcome like it anywhere else. From the greeting email prior to our arrival, the welcoming that we've received during the checking in process, the recreational staff to the checking out process.

We we're super happy when we got the room that we've requested. The kid loved the bathtub ^_^

The staff was also quick to fix the broken lamp in our room.

We were especially pleased with the Batu Feringgi trip to the Golden Sand Resort. Our kids had a blast with the many kids activity there.

We were also enjoying the pool facilities at the hotel. The room service and the amenities that was also beyond our expectation.

I'm also thankful that Jen serves halal food for it's breakfast menu. It means a lot to us.

If I may suggest, adding a family friendly TV channel would not be a bad idea. I can speak on behalf of the family that stays at Jen with kids.

The only mishab that happens was during on of the day, our room wasn't being cleaned, and the floor underneath our sofa wasn't clean often enough.

Other than that, we're looking forward to staying at Jen again in our next trip to penang.

It was our second stay in 3 months. We booked a family room with a request to have a sofa bed along with a king size bed for 2 adults and 1 child.

During check-in, we were informed that we did not specify that we need the sofa bed to be set up and were asked to pay another 60+ MYR just to set up the sofa bed.

After insisting and showing our booking confirmation with special request note, the extra fee was finally waived after the reception consulted with the manager.

The above check-in experience marred what would have been another good stay.

Good:

Good:
We stayed for 3 nights. The welcome fruit cup in the refrigerator was impressive. The room was clean and facilities were quite new. Staffs were very nice and responded to our requests timely.

One day after room making, my book gone missing. I reported to the front desk and they managed to retrieve it for me. The staff left a big bottle of cleaning detergent in our room after cleaning and we returned it to them afterwards.

Bad:
The room service food quality was average, have rooms for improvement.

The only thing I had to pick on this hotel was the massage service. NEVER use their massage service. The only one lady masseur was not up to standard, her skills were not worth for money and her long sharp nails were not for massage. I doubt her profession on massage as I felt more stressed afterwards. I chose aromatherapy massage, but I only got Johnson's baby oil to rub on my body - which was like a scam!! The towel on massage bed was too rough and made my skin itchy too. The charged quite high compared with other massage places in Penang so it was really not ok.

Hotel staff are friendly. The hotel room is clean and tidy. Beds are comfortable but find the pillows too soft without support. However, the bathroom shower head is worn out and TV screen is not so clear.

Room was renovated - good. Pool water was heated, or warmer than others I had been to - good. Location: the best. Room size - good. Lobby: large with plenty of seats - good. Wifi speed was fast - good. The only downside was there was a smell in my room 922, either in the AC or from the sewage, which made it quite unpleasant.

It's ok, I was expecting more from this hotel after all a massive renovation. However I'm a bit disappointed. There's no coffee or tea (wonder why they provide jug kettle) in the room & no mini bar. They only offer bottles water.

Nice and cozy room. However there are some things that I could not possibly overlook ...

1. The room door to the adjacent one is too close to each other for comfort

2. There are speakers in the bathroom that is link to the television but you are not able to watch it because there are no glass looking out!

3. The night view was ruined by 2 gigantic flood lights glaring at the room window, wonder what's that for?

4. The swimming pool area condition is not befitting for the Shangri-La brand

The 4th star that was given is actually for the accommodating front office staff and the wonderful concierge team!

Most impressed with William and Wan at the Club Lounge. They were always ready with their warm smiles and tried their best to accommodate requests.

One morning at breakfast at the ground floor, I was greeted by Ms MASL and I casually mentioned to her that it was my wife's birthday. She immediately alerted the Manager and arranged for a small piece of cheese cake with a candle. Such surprised and thoughtful gesture.

I was more surprised when it was followed by a whole cake at the Club Lounge that same evening. Literally this put the icing on the cake! That night William allowed us to stay at the Club Lounge slightly beyond the closing time as it was my wife's birthday. She was pleasantly surprised by the cake and I am impressed by the flexibilty showed by William.

Well done! We will certainly come back again. Only regret was that I should have sign up to be a member when asked to when we checked in!

Overall experience was OK. The staff was diligent ...

Overall experience was OK. The staff was diligent in making your experience a good one. We stayed at the club room for two nights. Room was great except for two incidents, which has caused me to give two stars overall:

1. A window panel in our room that starts from my two year-old's waist height and was not locked, with a single slight nudge it became ajar. To think that five mins earlier he was playing hide and seek with us behind the curtains...Being a mom and travelling with a toddler, I'd normally be the first to check on safety whenever we check-in to our rooms at hotels, however he beat me to it this time. Mind you, our room was on the 16th floor. A staff was eventually sent to fix the window panel, but I was horrified to say the least, and extremely disturbed by this event. Even though the window was fixed, I couldn't sleep in peace for the two nights we were there just to make sure that my boy don't go near the windows if he wakes up in the middle of the night.

2. In the early morning of our check out day, some cleaning was done in front of our room using an industrial sized machine and the sound that came with it was ear-deafening. We've had a late night before attending a wedding dinner and did not appreciate the sound at all. Not sure why it had to be done at 8.30am in the morning. Perhaps performing the cleaning later during the day when most guests are out is a better option?

The above are not something that I'd expect from Shangrila chain, so I hope moving forward some due diligence on safety of rooms can be performed before guests check-in, especially if you know that there are kids checking in as well.

Wow, really cleaned up the place! I have stayed here 5 times over the last 10 years. I like its location, but it had become run down over the years. Very happy to see they dropped some serious remodel coin on the place. Looks great!

Booked a function room for an event in Jen. The staff was very helpful and friendly in setting up the rooms according to our requirements. The lunch buffet included was also pretty good. Consisted of Indian, Malay, Chinese, Thai and some western dishes. However was very disappointed that the sales staff did not mention to us that the roads in front of the hotel was going to be conjested due to a festival. This affected the turnout of our event.

Great location and staff are friendly, as usual. It is so much pleasant after the renovation, brighter and facilities like USB points next to bed are very useful. This is our 3rd time this year.

The choice for the early morning dish for ramadhan are only rice. Pl have some bread, sandwiches and salad too as option.
I stayed in room 519. The toilet door is right in front of main door. U must ensure the toilet is closed all tje time.. Its tricky to deal with the shower door and the toilet door.

I was staying alone at the hotel and FD man Max kindly helped me to reset my booking from double to single occupancy, thus helping me save quite a bit. Staying at Jen is always a luxurious experience - its convenient location and sea food buffets are aways a plus. Of course, the friendly service from hotel staff is much appreciated.
