Shangri La Georgetown,Penang Review

I stayed one night at the hotel Jen. The lobby looks great and has a Christmas theme at the moment which is very appealing, the staff at the check-in is friendly and knows what to do. Everything went smoothly.
The room is in a good condition and looks renovated, it is big enough for 1 or 2 tenants and I liked the bath and bed.
Only problem was that the drainage of the shower is clogged, but they will take care of it.
The breakfast has a lot of choices and the waiters are friendly.
Checkout was quick and friendly.

I would have given 5 stars without the drainage clogging.

Staff service and hotel services is excellent as always.

The only issue I have and it is a recurring one every visit, is the pillows are too soft. Each time I will request 2 hard foam pillows from Housekeeping but the ones they provide vary too much in size and hardness. So far they are either too small or too soft, only about 1/10 times I can get a pillow that meets my expectation.

I believe these pillows were OK but over time they have probably shrunk or degraded significantly. This is the only thing I do not like about the rooms, everything else is great.

Excellent business and tourist hotel, highly recommended for foreign tourists and local people, high quality services and quality food.

Good place to stay, not the cheapest one and currently under construction. however convenient and at the heart of the city.

We booked the club room which was renovated and had a decent lounge but as it was undergoing renovation while I stayed, I experienced ongoing drilling and hammering noises. I actually tried to negotiate postponing my stay as I wanted some peace & quiet this trip, but the management was inflexible. Pool, gym, and spa are pretty run down. Would only recommend coming here post-renos (aug 2017).

Looking good hotel, great location. I wouldn't not recommend take massage there though. Swimming pool is open till 19, was a bit small, but good.

Overall it was good. The rooms were comfortable and clean with the necessary amenities. Where Jen can certainly improve will be the food. The room service burger is really not good. The buffet breakfast spread is limited. The toast bread was soft and the sausages & eggs were cold as they were prepared much earlier. Due to the covid, I agree that we are doing our best to serve but I hope Jen will not compromise on the quality and spread.

I went there for Christmas dinner buffet style. It was nice but I would have liked there to be more western food and the turkey was a bit cold.

Right in Penang old town. Not the best venue to enjoy Penang (high traffic and not near beach). Room just refurbished. But the jem of the hotel is the group of friendly staff.

It is worth the stay..Whenever I am in Penang this is the place I will stay. Service is excellent. Comfortable bed. Staff right down to the bellboy is courteous.

The first thing that impressed me was the staff from the reception. They served me with a great smile and good English communication skills. The room was good but the amenities in the mini bar need to improved as it was empty if should a guess need an immediate refreshment to grab from the room. Buffet breakfast was quite interesting because there were variety of dishes to choose. The location was perfect, very convenient for those loves to explore more out of the hotel. I was indeed very pleased for my request of a late check-out and I will certainly will come back and would like to recommend to my friends about hotel Jen Penang.

Over 30years hotel, but just renovated finish last month, hotel room and lounge fully refurnished and good looking and luxury design, even lobby also very beautiful, very good.

I have very mixed feelings about this hotel. Looks like if you don't book a club room you get a different experience. On the whole the hotel is good. Has a great feel to it and reception was friendly and helpful. The room itself was also nice but there were 1 or 2 things that was annoying. I believe that there are 2 emergency lights beside the bed on both sides but this thing keeps flickering every few seconds. I found it extremely annoying and it disrupted my sleep and besides I don't think any flickering lights are safe for anyone with epilepsy. Granted I doubt anyone will keep staring at the light but management should take note. Furnishings in the room is nice but in the bathroom although grohe was used, someone was being cheap by substituting and using a cheap hose instead of the original grohe hose resulting in the shower being loose. So the showerhead kept spraying towards the side wall. Honestly if you guys want to use premium furnishings then you should ensure if the items get spoilt reuse the same brand or get something that's actually compatible. My biggest disappointment is probably the cafe staff downstairs. I've had dinner and breakfast there and honestly aside from the staff that greats the guest and ask for your room number the rest are hopeless. None bother to greet you or even smile. 1 server was even rude to me at dinner and another during breakfast didn't even bother to ask if I wanted coffee or tea. The spread itself was nothing great and variety between the days were not inspiring. I recall that we had satay for dinner but nobody bothered to refill the satay kuah. When I asked , the staff buat dunno only. Sad to say no matter how great a hotel is and even if it's Shangri-la standards, if your staff is worse than a kopitiam shop then ure gonna lose your reputation and business. I for 1 will not be coming back. 1 good point is the room AC can actually go down to 5 degrees! That was blissfully amazing.

We experienced good service generally and thankful for storage of breastmilk especially as well as smooth checkin and helping with the luggage. We are also glad that the cot mattress could be elevated slightly for my smaller baby. However it would be good if check out was less rigid and more time given for late checkout especially when we stayed for 4 days with more lugagge to pack and also a baby to attend to.

Well maintained place.. Loved the pool, garden, decoration and customer's service fantastic.. Room service e is great.

I booked a night in Jen Hotel in September. The room is so spacious and clean. Receptionist is friendly and the check in process was fast.

Enjoy the breakfast as well. Huge variety of choices here. They practiced a very strict SOP in serving breakfast and the waiters and waitresses are very attentive and ready to help. Will definitely recommend everyone to stay here!

I'm satisfied with the services provided by the Jen Hotel just that very limited parking space. But i'm ok with that since you had provide an alternative to encounter the limitation. Good job to your team. But unfortunately, i would like to highlight my frustration with your eat-all-you-can seafood and meat buffet on 28 Aug 2020 as the foods selection is not as per your advertisement. It totally not worth it & the most of the food taste is salty which i can't really enjoy the food. And i can't find any dessert around since i come at 7.50pm until 9pm. Really frustrated on that. Otherwise, i will give you full mark. Thank you.

Mobile Check-In App is great but the process has to improve because Mobile Check-In counter was unmanned. I had to join the normal queue and the my information was not ready and the counter staff has to call back office to verify instead of issuing key on the spot as per Mobile Check-In.

The hotel has an excellent location and is close to many tourists attraction also surrounded by a nice shopping area and not far from the larges shopping Malls.

The hotel room just renovated. Just next to few shopping mall and a walking distance to heritage spot

Room and toilet was clean & nice decoration. Breakfast was good, staff is excellent.
Only the kettle I think not clean enough.
Overall was satisfied.

Good club lounge even though limited for club rooms guests.

Clean and comfy space, especially family room with space for 3 persons. Staff also very helpful even though fully booked when i was arrive, but we didn't wait to long for payment and get the room. Location also near attractions and mall. The best hotel ever in Penang.

Very convenient for business calss, near to all hot spot in the city area in Georgetown hawker food nasi kandar the best part near be with 2 shopping mall 1 avenue and perangin mall

room was fantastic, services and facilities were also great. I used the grand piano on level 4, as well as the gym. staff interactions were all outstanding.

Maybe you can prepare a pamphlet on available choice of menus for breakfast or other meals available for lunch/dinner.

Had a good stay here. The venue of the hotel is very near to various food places such as new lane hawker and many others. The room is very clean as well with powerpoint that allows direct USB port (though the charging is slow). Staffs that handles luggages are extremely helpful to guide us on the places to explore as well. Only downside is the checkout is manual and there's a queue to wait for.

My husband and I had a very pleasant stay at your hotel from 2-6 Jan 2018. Great start to the new year! Great location that's near to most recommended places for local food. Shopping and cinema in 1st Avenue Mall just beside your hotel is a bonus. Kudos to front office staff, concierge & housekeeping...thank you Hotel Jen!

Went there for education fairs. Nice place.

Gotta watch out for the parking fees. Only free if you spend the night there. My friend went there for abt 4 hrs and got abt RM20+ (not sure the exact value) for parking.

You do get a discount to RM6 if you remember to claim it at the event you are visiting (you can ask for directions), but still quite expensive if you ask me.

The location was prime being near shopping malls like 1st avenue and prangin mall as well as food streets like new lane hawker with famous street foods. Within 10mins walking distance to the hipster street which is famous for shopping as well as street graffiti art. Hotel interior mimics the traditional penang style which gives a pleasant feel. Facilities are new and clean with great service and great breafast buffet at extremely affordable prices. Room makeup is clean and satisfactory and reveption is friendly and kowledgeable. Overall it is a great experience and will be staying here again if ever visiting penang for leisure trip.

Limited parking. Was here to attend dinner but had to part few streets away because their multi-level carpark is full

All the SoP's are executed very well to give guests a sense of safety and comfort. Bedding is excellent. Club rooms are well laid out and relaxing. However the TV did not have many entertainment channels. Front counter and room service was efficient and very polite.

Only mistake they make was never check on my details of booking which breakfast was not given . I thought my company side doesn t book for it but actual fact there is breakfast included . Your staff mention no breakfast to me . I have to go outside for breakfast . It s ok anyway

Hotel Jen Penang is One of the Nice and Best Hotels I have ever used for my stay during my Summer Holiday.

The hotel has an excellent location and is close to many tourists attraction also surrounded by a nice shopping area and not far from the larges shopping Malls.

The hotel rooms are equipped with all the needs of guests and this would give him a quiet and comfortable stay.

My stay at the Jen was FANTASTIC. Room was always clean, the front desk staff was amazing, the breakfast...I cannot say enough good things about the food that you offer. I am ready to move to Malaysia. You made my stay, half way around the world from my home very enjoyable. Thank you for all you do.

I would love to see Ginger Beer added to the club room selection.

More tv channels, less waiting time at cafe jen. Put more tables for breakfast more room service menu. More counters open for check ons and check outs. Hope my next visit will be better.

On the 1st night, the room was very unclean - there was some people's hair on the face towels, dust in the corners and stains on the bed sheet. Hence we requested to change the room and was told that there was only twin bed room, which can be joint together, and we agreed.
On the 2nd night, when the twin bed were supposed to be joint together, they were not. The beds were only joint together for the 3rd night but we were only staying for 4 nights in total...
To think that we celebrated both my birthday (Dec 24th) and Christmas here, I find the service provided very average. Not only there was no upgrade (only a cake, which tastes good though), we had to switch room and spent half of our stays either in a dirty room or a twin bed room.

First time attend the wedding dinner here.
Foods wise required to improve a bit..
Also hotel has limited car parks..
Hotel staff quite polite and friendly..

If you want to play a Mobile phone game in the room,you will be crazy because the Wifi is so bad ,it always make you disconnected from the game

I was in need of a USB mouse for my laptop use . I requested late night to the reception team. I got the required support. Here, the hotel Staff helped me by walking an extra mile!

Relaxing and restful stay except that the next room children were noisy even at midnight. The sound of their playing and laughing were heard in our room. The wall was of partition boards and for this it is a concern.

Convenient location for going around Georgetown. Management went the distance to allow me to park my bike on the hotel premises and arranged for me and my partner to freshen up at the gym even we are already checked out. Really appreciate the services and definitely looking to stay at Hotel Jen Penang again.

I stayed at Jen Hotel few months ago and I walked over to the Komtar. Happened to see the Tower Spa promo and thought since I was there, better check it out. To my surprise, the place was so nice. This is my first time there so I was given some discount. Tried the body massage for one hour and it was really good. I feel it is value for money because after the massage, nice dessert was served. Will come back again.

Comfortable hotel with lots of amenities. But the parking spaces are limited.
