Shangri La Georgetown,Penang Review

Penanghill Corporation booked a room with breakfast and had paid RM274 for me. I had a rude shock at the breakfast table the next morning asking me to pay for breakfast separately. I had paid the same rate, room and breakfast at RM274 on 1 Feb 2018. Two weeks later, the management just decides to change their mind. Later Katherine at front desk helped to sort things out and I paid an additional RM36.15. Its disappointing that the goalpost keeps moving for an esteemed organization as yourselves. Customer service takes a backseat and the emphasis is on payment.

Lounge chair and rain shower in the club rooms , please.....

Room was not cleaned on one day. Probably because I left the room around noon. (Do not disturb sign was off)

There were limited activities for children.
The only available activity is the pool are my kids are not well so they were quite bored.

The Hotel staffs are very kind and polite to us and also they can share travel tips to explore around Penang with very good and wide knowledge ! Thanks Jen Hotel !

Perhaps my personal preference, Hotel Jen is my favourite and many things about Hotel Jen is close to perfection.
Hotel rooms comes with warm lights but unlike the others, it is well lit and feel good working from any corner.
Hotel room come with complimentary drinking water, ironing board, steam iron, hanger, towels with printing (so you know which towel is for what purpose), toiletries, alarm clock, flat screen tv, good view.
I would come back again!

Place is quite and clean, with very comfortable pillows to ease you to sleep after a long day of sightseeing. Hotel location is also very central and ease of identification as it is near to the tallest building in Penang and at heart of geoge town.

-Faster check in would be much appreciated / priority lane for family with kids & elderly.

- We have a good time at Club lounge drink session, suggest the staff can help out mother carrying baby while taking food, can help them bring the food to the table.

- One of your car park staff is very rude, rejected my husband to enter carpark, keep asking what is our room no ( where we just arrived to check in ). We made a complain to the manager - Calvin, he explain to us and apologies which is good.

- No enough carpark.

Pleasant atmosphere, suitable for accomodating teambuilding session as we have done,the foods are exquisite, overall very satisfying

overall it has a good ambiance to it but its a bit disappointing with their loo which doesn't provide any water hose... IF YOU'RE DOING THE SECOND ONE... coz MUSLIMS WILL WASH UP USING WATER and NEVER... NEVER... EVER WIPE THEIR ASS USING ONLY TOILET PAPER UNLESS ITS AN EMERGENCY!!

Tastefully updated hotel centrally located in the heart of the Georgetown.

Check in was fast.
We booked a family room as there were 3 of us. However the sofa bed was not set up when we went in. After calling the housekeeping, someone came to set it after 5 min which was quick. After that he brought extra set of toiletries .
Reception called to check wthr housekeeper provided extra set of toiletries and wthr bed set up. I consider this as excellent service.

We had a very good stay at Hotel Jen Penang. The room has very modern design, new and clean. Staffs have very good customer service and check in was done swiftly. Parking is within hotel so it s very convenient and safe.

I left a valuable headphones in the room upon check out and the Lost & Found Dept was very helpful in retrieving it for me.

The newly renovated Jen Hotel is an excellent hotel I would strongly recommend to my friends and visitors . The staff are friendly and
greeted us warmly . The service at the club Lounge was excellent and the buffet breakfast is sumptuous.

We arrived just after midnight from KL and the Manager attended to us and he was very polite and helpful and quickly gave us our connecting rooms as requested. As we were attending a friend's funeral, we requested for late check out and the same wonderful Manager acceded to our request without hesitation. Superb service.

Very poor sound proof in the room and the staff need to be trained more, don't ask the guess what time they want to check out before checking the room availability for late check out.

Had a pleasant stay and service during our breakfast time was excellent.

Breakfast options could be better. The pastries options were quite limited, and the quality of the croissant was below average.

Very nice, located in busy city center near to all the food outlets and favourite places to shop.

Another great hotel of Shangri-la group. Another great hoteling experience.

Located in The Central area, well maintained in good condition. Interior is splendid. Around the hotel there are several shopping mall.
If you want to drink alcohol, you can go to the bar in the ground floor.
Or if you want Izakaya , then opposite of the hotel, there s another hotel. In the ground floor there is one Japanese bar.

The service level at Hotel Jen in Penang blew me away. Amazing attention to customer's comments & excellent service recovery with outstanding services given by front desk team & their manager. Highly recommend this to anyone visiting Penang

William working in the club lounge provided an excellent services.
The concierge service in the morning is very good in assisting/organizing for me a car with a driver for a day trip around Ipoh.

Like the easy connected functional aspects within hotel. Hotel lobby with plenty of seats is a big plus. The infused water point is great. Counter staff can be more friendly and cheerful. Don't feel as welcomed.

Receptionists are friendly. Breakfast is great. Cleanliness and location of hotel is amazing for the price. The only critique I can say is that we weren't provided bottled water in our rooms for 4 nights straight, and we had to ask for water personally every night.

Bowled over by Hotel Jen Penang s wonderful hospitality! Visited Penang over my birthday and they specially took the effort to prepare a beautiful cake and send it over to my room! It was a completely unexpected gesture and a wonderful surprise that made my day.
Of course, apart from the impeccable service, also love the hotel s great location (right at city centre and within walking distance from most of the Georgetown places of interest!), the free shuttle service to Shangri la at ferringhi beach, beautiful and eclectic interior design (interesting colours, artwork, and tiles in the hotel). The room I stayed in was spacious and comfortable. Everything was great and I ll definitely stay here again when I revisit Penang in future :)

The overall stayed in Jen Hotel is awesome. However, need to escalate the process of checkin and checkout because it took more than 15 minutes to settle.

Great location and comfortable beds. Unfortunately, the room wasn't clean especially the bathroom and floor underneath the bed. I've told the receptionist but nothing happened. Gym and pool quite dated.

Good service at the beginning and my request of a room with bath tub and on higher floor is fulfilled.
However, I need to wait for 20mins for a cab heading to the airport. The charge was a bit high, after I was told that if I use an App it wud be around 40-50% safe on the trip fare and the transport could be available very soon.
I wud be happier if I were offered this help after waiting for 10Mins although I was NOT late for my flight.

1st- when i request to upgrade; booking service reply with confident to gv us high priority. endup, i cant upgrade. well u can tell me before i reach hotel. cause i booking via agoda and pay at hotel. since its late and im tired, then this issues can ignore. not really professional as Shangri-la hotel KL.

2nd- When upon arrival; parking space enough the parking available, after 11pm, the parking full, end up u need to park @ nearby hotel.need to cross street. BTW the car park without lift. u need to hike.

3rd - New renovation, good bad, good aircond, working hot water. TV not HD. pool and health center open too late.. at 9 am.

overall just find another hotel if u could.

Sincerely ur unsatisfying customer been blind by "Shangri-la'" name.

Firstly, most staff were friendly and helpful although there were a few that were unfriendly and not very service oriented.
Secondly, the room floor was very slippery.

Not professional service from concierge counter staff.

Fruit station presentation can be better, especially the papaya dish.

Roti prata can be better by frying it fresh when ordered

everything is good, room is clean, bathroom is good with enough toiletries, hair dryer, iron, fridge and hanger. definitely will back to this hotel again for the next visit to Georgetown!
Parking under basement of hotel is available, parking fee can be waived for guest, this is definitely a bonus!
not to mention, hotel buffet breakfast is good too!

Staff were very friendly and helpful. However, I was quite disappointed with the club lounge, which was very small compared to lounges at other hotels. It became very crowded at cocktail time. I would have taken an ordinary room if I had known. Also, the key card system was experiencing problems - we had to change our cards four times in the four nights we stayed!

Loved the location of the hotel and the modern look of the lobby. The ambience, the cosiness of the room was also a plus point. Staff were friendly and efficient, attending to our needs immediately. We were able to check in early and check out later which helped tremendously as our flight home was a late one. We are happy with our stay in Hotel Jen.

Everything was fine, just on my second day 13/7/20, housekeeping come very late to my room at nearly 5 pm, eventhough i left the room at 9am till 3 pm.

No tea-spoon provided during my 2 nights stay. Wondering how can i stir the hot water when i make a cup of coffee/tea using nescafe sachet provided..

Overall we were pleased with the service and facilities. The location is very convenient . Furthermore the parking lot is easily accessible. The only thing I can pick was the check in ,which take a bit longer looking for my booking. Quite surprised was the shuttle bus to Golden sands hotel. It is big bus and is comfortable . One final compliment,the staff are friendly and helpful.

Actually this was my second stay at Jen.. my first stay with my families stayed at family room.. it was quite excited to stay here because the room was bright and clean... my second stay with my husband was nice too.. since it was just two of us.. we notice that staying at Jen was near to famous breakfast store like Ta Tong Restaurant and Pitt street Kwetiau Tang.. well.. it also near GAMA dept store and first avenue mall is juz beside JEN HOTEL.. overall.. location was good.. people also nice.. will stay again at JEN next time....

Extremely comfortable hotel, loved the beds, the breakfast and even the elevators

The aircon blower was noisy. Not enough noise insulation that I was disturb very much by the talking & TV from next door.
Appreciated the staff at the lobby & reception for their friendliness and attentiveness.

Spacious and clean. Staff are helpful and cheerful. Will stay in this hotel again in future.

Everything is GOOD for the first time stay in Jen Hotel ( Penang )

Wonderful location, service, and rooms. Only complaint would be that the plumbing in the sink isn't very good as it takes a long time for the water to drain down, and the parking can be a trouble when there are too many guests or an event going on.

I enjoyed my stay in the hotel. The staff are friendly and ever smiling. The rooms are clean and furnishing well maintained. Will recommend this hotel to my friends.

Good overall experience. Friendly Check in and out staff members. Found out walk in rate is much better than online booking. How can you improve this to ensure guest will have the best value to become loyal guest ?

The staff at reception were very friendly and very helpful. The dining room staff were wonderful and fun, they made eating in the Jen dining room a very enjoyable experience.

Upgraded rooms good standard but ongoing hotel renovation makes everything a bit messy at reception and entrance levels.

The overall stay experience is OK. I booked a family suite and have notified the hotel that I come in 3 pax. The breakfast was prepared for 3 but not the bed and amenities. I would expected the hotel to prepare amenities for 3 and assist to prepare the sofa bed without myself having to contact the housekeeping.

Also the sofa bed was not properly prepared - its two bed stand was not pulled out completely. Fortunately we noticed that, else we may have fall off the bed when we sit on it. The bed wouldn't be able to support since the metal standees weren't pulled out to stay completely.

Breakfast wise, I'm just wondering if the soy milk was poured from packets. It has an alkaline taste after being warmed.

2. Very helpful and friendly staff.
3. Nice gym and swimming pool.
4. Room are clean and spacious with good complementary items.
5. Near to bus station make it easy for Penang CAT FREE shuttle bus.
