Very well guided tours through the Shakespeare's Globe on the Thames.
Very few remember that it was the American Actor Sam Wanamaker who put this theatre back on the world stage. He was the passion behind its rebuild.
My personal score is 10/10.
Wonderful production of LEAR. Superb evening at The Globe
Best version of Midsummer night's dream I've ever seen
An amazing venue with some of the greatest plays on earth - make sure to be a groundling, not only are the tickets cheaper but a much better experience when watching the show
I liked the theater and performance a lot. The person behind me did keep kicking me in the back though. We saw Midsummer NIghts Dream and it was very funny when we saw the man dressed up as a womn.
Well worth a visit. Excellent tour guide and lovely museum as well as the theatre itself.
Henry V, what a great performance, a reference to Wales, Monmouth, what can go wrong...
Great experience but cold at this time of the year. Do not forget to wear warm shoes!
A great time there. Do recommend to take the tour
Amazing theatre experience, a must do when in London!
What a cool reproduction of the original theater. We took in a showing of Henry V and thoroughly enjoyed every part of it. The seats are hard (rent a cushion), and the best seats are those with a railing in front to lean on.
Watched the Match Girl and it was wonderful, as we're the people who seated us. However the Eastern European barwoman was intensely rude to us and other customers. Shame
A "Modern Version" of Shakespeare's theatre.
W. Shakespeare built, in 1599, a theatre on a spot nearby this "modern" "replica/reconstruction"... It was built by the American actor and producer, Sam Wannamaker. This theatre works with other groups in presenting Shakespearean plays. One can take an informative tour of the building as well as but tickets for a "most memorable performance". It has been awarded TripAdvisors coveted "Certificate of Excellence" (based on feedback by travellers like you and I). A visit will provide many amazing and interesting memories.
I hope that this Review has been useful.
Interesting way of learning about Shakespeare. Well organized and great tour guides.
It was alright. Was a bit boring as they did a lot of talking. When we went to watch the sword fighting, the fire alarm went off so we couldn't continue watching this and we had to move on as we didn't have time
Still my favourite theatre in the world. Be sure to do a guided visit here one day, you get a good insight in both Shakespeare and theatre's history and you just have to see what the globe looks like inside
A great venue. But very very hot in summer. Bring water, hat and a fan
Unique theatre experience.
Well worth queueing for return tickets to stand. Will be back.
Really sad to see how far downhill they have gone since the early days of serious period performance practice. Not energetic enough to be really bad. Just enervated and slipshod for tourists texting on their phones
i lost my dad and I cant find him. I was suppose to meet him in the basement but he did the runnings aways to get the milk. I haven't seen him in 2 days. I tkink he left me!!! thank you so much I hated that bit*h
You should have seen it as a theatrical enthusiast. Organize tickets in good time and pay attention to the time of management, it is very much in demand! Great information, good insight into the time of that time. Unfortunately not original, nevertheless well done. Why not five points, a little mass processing and you can explore it only very limited!
Stunning because Shakespeare performed there. Didn't go in as I thought alittle expensive. Not easy to find not well signed posted for such a historical building. We walked from the tower of London.
Magnificent! Exciting! If you have the opportunity to visit this wonderful place, do not miss it! It is a journey in time. Have the possibility to visit THE Shakespearean theater par excellence and its history, see how the costumes and scenery were designed, and how it was carried out.
Excellent guided tour. Great shop.
Shakespeare as performed in Shakespeare's day, but still as relevant as ever! The Globe is a must for visitors, but I love going regularly as a local as well.
The only one in its design of those that remain of the time
We did the reasonably priced tour (i.e. didn t see a show). The tour was informative and interesting. Tour guide (Simon) did a great job of mixing old history and modern interest into the narrative. Quite worth the visit.
Always an amazing experience. I'd recommend standing instead of the seated area any day. Can't wait to go again.
Amazing venue, no microphones, no speakers, candles for light. Just a really cool night out watching a Shakespeare play.
Amazing historically accurate theatre. So much history
Great tour, guide was excellent. Inspired to come and see a play!
Saw Midsummer night's dream a week or two ago. Best 5 pounds spent in London. The play was hilarious... So good that I didn't realize I had been standing for 3 hours!
Very detailed, informative, and interesting exhibition and tour. Worth a visit.
We went by chance and this place is one of our best memories of our last week in London
Beautiful reproduction of Shakespeare's glope, but beware. The weather is not always super hot.
I could see it on the outside and it's spectacular, I regret not being able to see a work.
A fascinating look into the entertainment of centuries past!
This is a very unique building both inside and outside. Very easy to find and a very nice place to visit. Shakespeare was an important writer and this is a great legacy
Shakespeares Globe on the Thames is not just a theatre, it is the educational and cultural hub for everything to do with Shakespeare and his writing.
Although performances do not run all year round, educational events and workshops work hard to keep The Bard relevant in the 21st century.
Performances are generally given in the traditional Elizabethan style, making a visit there less of a theatre trip and more of an immersive experience.
Very pleasant and relaxed atmosphere. Went for a children's show as part of the Shakespeare's Telling Tales and we all enjoyed it.
Breathtaking experience. Definitely must see for fans of the Bard.
Truly an open air thatre. Performances are fully engaging (actors interact with audience). Seeing a show? You could get a seat in the gallery (not entirely comfortable) or better, get a spot in the pit (near the stage so you can lean on it) if you don't mind standing for 2-3 hours. Be ready to have birds and other wildlife nearby at the show. Or a helicopter or plane flying overhead. Shakespeare actors are well trained for this arena. If you want the feel of performing in this space yourself, you'll need to go through the ESU.
The play "Much Ado About Nothing " adaptation. Not what I was expecting from a Shakespeare company in London. They modernized the play, it's not original at all. They don't tell you when you buy tickets that the Exhibit closes at 5pm even though the theatre doors don't open until 6:30pm. Could see theatre like this anywhere, nothing special save your money.
Just went on a primary school trip with my daughter. Got to look inside, a guide duscusswd with the kids why it was designed as it is. The guide also took us to their acting training room where the kids acted and understood macbeth better. It was interesting just not five star. Maybe if I was in the class rather than on the sidelines oe even watched a play it would get a higher rating.
It was as magical as I hoped it would be! The venue itself is beautiful. The character and charm are hard to resist. I would strongly recommend that you buy a cushion though; those seats are hard!
The staff were friendly and helpful and made the whole experience a pleasure.
The performance made me enjoy Shakespeare in a way I never have before. It was one of the best nights of my life.
Really enjoyed this visit. Lucy, our guide was very informative and enthusiastic. Learnt new facts about theatre history. Great gift for a theatre lover.
Very bizarre performance. Still it is the globe in London. So everyone ought to go once
I've been here twice, a year ago to see "Hamlet" and just recently "Much Ado About Nothing". Both shows were fabulous and an interesting take on Shakespeare.
Things to note when visiting the theatre:
- Yard tickets are really cheap and a great day or evening out. Personally, I always buy seated tickets because I can't stand for that long.
- A lot of the performances are modern takes on the original production. I've read a couple of bad reviews on here about this, personally I think its excellent.
Go to the Globe and buy a seat, you wont regret it.
Staff are friendly and helpful (I live with mobility challenges). We were taken through the back stage area to an elevator to get to the accessible section. My wife was given a free ticket as my attendant. Hats off to the Duty Manager who gave us a lot of help.
We saw A Winter's Tale. Very well done. One of the problem plays. We went for a tour of the Globe Theatre as well and that was very interesting.
Fantastic afternoon at the snow globe. Well done all.
