That's a really special place you don't want to miss when you're in London.
That's a really special place you don't want to miss when you're in London.
If you're a fan of Shakespeare, make your way here sometime. It's great. They really have a traditional feel, they try to make everything as it was in Shakespeare's time, at the real Globe(which is in a different location)
I went during a summer abroad for a Shakespeare course. We went probably 4 or 5 times, I loved it.
Be a groundling(stand on the ground around the stage during the plays)!
HARRY POTTER FANS! You walk across the Millennium Bridge to get here.
Great summer schedules and nice to have the option to hang out on the riverside at the bar afterwards. Definitely choose seating.
Excellent venue for a variety of plays, operas etc with The Sam Wanamaker Playhouse having superb acoustics with real candles lighting
Understand through another channel than intelligence the construction of Shakespeare's plays by discovering one of his theaters ...
They tried to reconstruct the closest thing to the original! Good museum
Premier theatre location - featuring some of the Bards greatest and indeed original work if we are to believe the architect of this more recent re-construction of the Elizabethan theatre. Has an indoor and outdoor theatre. Has great atmosphere and well worth a visit even if you don't end up going to the theater. There is lots to see and bargains to be had if you can see the afternoon shows. Fabulous!
Modern style performance of Romeo & Juliet was like being served mcdonald hamburger at a luxurios restaurant. Too much of obscenities for family with young kids. No hint of those thing or warning at the time of ticketing.
Such an amazing experience, but a decent selection of coffees and teas would be a perfect remedy for weary legs.
Amazing visit of Shakespeare globe ! We dive in shakespeare's time. A must visit
Only a replica but it is a unique way to watch theatre.
The tour was very informative and the building was incredible. If only the original was still standing. For a reconstruction it is however brilliant! Well worth a visit if you are in London.
Wonderful theater with a small, very interesting museum. For all Shakespeare interested, as well as theater lovers a must during a visit to London.
- Guide Tour visit in 2013.
- Group size was around 15-20.
- Well structured tour narration by a theatre staff - on the 2 topics of Shakespeare s Life and Evolution of Theatre scene in London during 1500- early 1600.
- This Replica of the globe theatre is also an actual theatre with shows taking place regularily.
- Reasonable time allocated for each stop during the Theatre tour.
- All queries from the group were entertained and a everyone had time for taking pics throughout the tour.
A must-do for anyone interested in Theatre, Shakespeare or general history of London !
Wonderfully cultural place, love the open air theatre which allows for so much interaction between the performers and the audience. Come armed with blankets and warm clothes if you are attending in winter though.
Every London visitor should take a tour of the Globe Theater! The really dedicated and good guides in the Globe gave a special insight into what position the theater and especially the Globe had in Shakespeare's time. The theater is also used during the summer months. Two performances a day in 2019 is Midsummer Night's Dream and Henry IV. The covered stage in the Jacobean style is a separate tour and has to be paid for separately
Highlight of trip to london. Went to see Henry IV. Can't pretend to understand everything going on or was said but enjoyed it immensely. Great interaction with crowd. Authentic atmosphere. Nice food in Swan pub beside the theatre. Nice souvenir shop. Highly recommended.
A hidden place but a must visit when in London. Fantastic actors. Go for standing tickets for closer look- and they are cheap too!
Stunning recreation of Shakespeare's Globe theatre on London's Southbank. Be warned though, this is an open air theayre and you and the performers/performance are at the mercy of the weather. Blankets, cushions and rain macs are available though.
Ther repertoire is constantly changing (i suspect to reflect the schools curriculum), and other playwrights are available occasionally.
Food and drinks are available.
Don't forget to exit through the gift shop.
The was a pleasant experience and I plan to go there again soon
Theater beautiful clear explanation but little emphasis was given to the works of William shaspeare especially to Romeo and Juliet
Saw Twelfth Night which was a fantastic production and The Globe is an amazing place
If you live in the UK, a pilgrimage here is required reading.
Great experience to see the replica of this amazing Shakespeare theatre
The actors have spoken away from the audience. The acoustics are not special. What I liked was that the piece was taught in sign language.
Nice venue. Stunning views of Thames towards waterloo
We took an amazing tour of the building. If you have any affinity for Shakespeare, this is a must do when in London. The tour guide assigned to us was excellent. She put on a show of her own. Very knowledgeable and willing to share without making you feel diminished. The price was reasonable and we came away with a new perspective on how the plays were staged and produced. Do this.
Nice to see but the actors there where the best part
First visit to the Globe and wow, what an impression. Academically I understood what Elizabethan theatre was, but to experience it was something else.
We saw a production of Othello. The immediacy of the space added that extra something. Despite the persistent rain the audience laughed and engaged with the actors in a way that doesn't normally happen in a regular theatre.
Make sure you rent a cushion at the very least, and also a back rest for more comfort. A wonderful theatre.
You cannot miss Big Ben when you come to London for a visit! Grateful to hear the fine chimes ringing during the 6 pm hour at sunset in March 2017 when we visited. Can't believe they are closing the clock tower for renovation (for 4 years!) a couple months back in Aug 2017...but glad we got to enjoy Big Ben's bells when we came earlier this year! :)
A beautiful theatre with the opportunity to watch original and Shakespeare plays throughout the summer - and in the Indoor Playhouse in the winter. Prices vary but are reasonable. Guided tours and exhibition tours are lovely too.
thius was amazing price was only 56k but it was worth the worst thing I ever saw
Disappointing tour. Lasted maybe 50 minutes. I guess we were going to see more of the makeup on the theater. Spend your money on other tours.
Having seen many a Shakespeare production over the years, this one was truly outstanding. Splendid costumes, fantastic musical accompaniment, and a truly Elizabethan atmosphere in this tremendous theatre.
Beware the wooden seats, however, and do get a seat cushion. Tall people should either prepare for a slightly uncomfortable time, or pick a seat at the aisle. If you want a drink at intermission, order in advance and have cash on you, since cards aren't accepted.
Loved it there, very nice guide who told everything in simple english so that everyone can understand
Brilliant amazing place with an atmosphere unlike any theatre you've ever been to before, and so cheap
The tour was actually really nice. I believe it's a little too pricey for the ticket tour but it was really nice visiting this place. This is not the original place but a very close copy to the actual thing. And I believe it is really worth it for people that do love theatre .
Unique venue, asking atmosphere, great value tickets available for all.
I really enjoyed my experience at the Globe Theatre. It has a unique and unusual layout and I hope to visit again soon.
Outside area is too small. We were kicked out because of a performance and we're a bit annoyed
Amazing history and ambience. Seating is quite tight
Super characteristic on the left bank of the Thames
Saw a matinee performance of Midsummer Night Dream. Superb actresses and actors. Brought the script alive with touches of the present giving it a twist.Excellent. Thankyou!
Lots of cool history about how Shakespeare worked and how life was at that time
Very good presentation of Shakespeare's work and the time he lived in.
Great place. The only place to watch a bit of Shakespeare. And a lovely cafe.
Very nice, ticketing and shop very well maintained and provided, bathrooms in excellent condition. Well preserved and cared for structure.
The theater is a modern reconstruction, inaugurated in 1999, of the original Shakespearian one. The cost to visit it is high, since it is not original, then if you get a rude and uncaring guide is absolutely to be discarded ... spend your money elsewhere!
Honestly this is some of the best theatre that I've ever seen. If you have the health to do it, definitely get a standing seat because you get to be in all the action with actors weaving between audience members to get to where they are going and even pulling people up on stage. This was a seriously unforgettable night.
Best theatre in London. And the Sam Wanamaker Play house is quite lovely.
Really interesting place. Lovely back story as to how it came about. Guide was very informative.
Intimate stage at the Sam Wanamaker Theatre. Lovely staff.
We were on a guided tour. It was very exciting experience and we liked the talk with the master guide who showed us the theatre and told some funny jokes.
The place is magical, I enjoyed the plays and performances.
I always liked Shakespeare s . And getting in there was amazing. It is as if you were going back at that time.
Very authentic, very dedicated people and true theater lovers.
Very strange plays, was not what I was expecting. Also, ridiculously prised refreshments and had to stand up for 3 hours. Would not recommend it
Due to its historical importance, even though it was reconstructed.
