WARNING!! Royal Oak All Natural Clean Fuel. This is the most disgusting lighter fluid. I just threw away $45 worth of steaks because this lighter fluid made my food taste like garbage. It smells terrible and even worse when burning. I thought since it was "clean" it wouldn't have made my food taste like it smells. How does it smell? Like someone who hasn't done their sock laundry in a few years. Says satisfaction guaranteed but there is no way to contact the company besides snail mail, no email, no fax, no phone number. I need a refund for the lighter fluid and my steaks.

Royal Oak you owe me $45

I ve used Royal Oak Hardwood Lump Charcoal for years with good and bad results. Lately it s been all bad. The size of the pieces are extremely small. Their quality control is nonexistent. Looking on their website is says if you have problems to write them. No place for an email with supporting photos etc. Unbelievable in today s world. I m finished with Royal Oak.

I used the briquettes with "the ridge" and should've used wadded up newspaper, it would've burned longer. I was EXTREMELY disappointed. Fast to light doesn't mean squat if they only burn for 10 minutes. I had to finish cooking the pork chops in the oven. C'mon people.

I have been cooking in small competition circuits for well over 20 years and have been a loyal and dedicated user of Royal oak lump charcoal. Until recently I have never had a complaint however with that being said here is my first. We did a competition on May 12-13 and at this competition we notice a friend was flying a royal oak banner( also noticed he was using Kroger charcoal), my son contacted royal oak and requested one of these banners and was told that he could not get one for some reason or the other. We run in a group of three teams, ours Squeal team 6 Arkansas, Big Racks BBQ and 627 BBQ. After all of these years of dedication I really felt disappointed that you could not provide us banners to advertise your product. I left several voicemails to which none were answered. Now the question is should we look for another brand of charcoal or can you find it in your advertising budget to provide us with banners

A few months ago I bought 8 - 8.8 lb. bags of Royal Oak Hardwood 'Lump' Charcoal. Unfortunately, each bag was at least half-filled with coal-dust and coal chips. These were all too small to even stay on the charcoal grill and it was a real mess. There were indeed a few 'lumps' in each bag but it was less then a pound per bag, most usable pieces were smaller than a standard charcoal briquette product. I also tried to 'contact' them from the website but it is a dead-end link. I am not impressed with this, the first purchase of their product that I have made, and I grill a lot, all year long. My suggestion to others, try another brand.

I find this charcoal far better than briquettes. However, I want to know why every bag has a little rock inside. I have already contacted The Home Depot about this issue. I tried to contact Royal Oak but the "contact" link doesn't work.

Diamond Strike-A-Fire fire starters used to be the best thing on the planet. I have a wood burning fireplace and use one fire starter every day to start my fire. No kindling needed. Just my "magic fire stick" that I affectionately named them. I've used them for years! Something must've been done to the "recipe" since now when I strike the fire starter, the "match" end all flakes off and will not light. I need to get a lighter to light the stick. Did you change the formula??

Hi Royal Oak Enterprises,

Hi Royal Oak Enterprises,
I am a customer of your products, I have a complained about your coal, I buy 100 libras for week to use at my BBQ bussines and all the times that I open a bag, have big stones, big irons . This is not fair. I buy coal and not big stones and big pieces iron.

My father is an IT Manager for this company. Has worked here since before I was born and I'm 16. I have been to almost all of the Royal Oak plants (never been to the Arkansas locations) and all of the Pine Mountain Locations to help set up things with my dad.

I can say myself I know why you guys are finding rocks and material in your bags. The kilns they use. Rocks are gonna find there way in because of the natural way they make the charcoal. The material is insulation for the kilns so the charcoal is a quality product for the customers.

Anyway, on to how I feel about Royal Oak Charcoal. I personally like it. My uncle has used Kingsford and it just didn't burn well and also was super overpriced. So Royal Oak and brands that Royal Oak makes has personally been my favorite. I'm not just saying that either.

Great Charcoal, but watch out for the rocks in the charcoal. This charcoal is preferable over charcoal briquettes, no doubt, however be careful if you have a porcelain insert in the grill. There are some rocks in Royal Oak Charcoal that can damage the insert.
Unfortunately, I have to pour Royal Oaks Charcoal into a bucket first to make sure there are no rocks in it. I already had to replace one porcelain insert, and they are costly, won't have that happen again.

Word of Caution! I bought a box of 300 Diamond Greenlight Large Kitchen Matches and I am chocked as to how fast the flame burns to the middle of the match stick, even before I can light a two-wick candle. I've used Diamond products before and was very satisfied, but I'm very leery to use this product. I've used about 12 of the matches, and all 12 matches have burned immediately! BE CAREFUL!

It's the worst charcoal I have ever used. The bag says satisfaction guaranteed but I see not way to contact them about the matter. . After lighting this product and waiting for ash color red hot.. then I spread them out then throw on the grill and then a few min the chicken.. the hot briquettes fire went out before the briquettes were half gone and before chicken was done. This is ridiculous .. I have lit more to finish but it's not doing well so into the oven goes the BBQ chicken... Kingsford will remain my brand.. sorry guys price isn't everything. . Quality is remember that! It must perform to get good reveiws.. on amazon it was listed at 33 % give it five stars 67% gave the product one star.. now figure that out none midway at all.. I hate your product now and have no way to fix your promise. Way to suck

We just bought a bag and poured it into the grill ...

We just bought a bag and poured it into the grill and noticed that something other than briquettes fell out... They were castor bean pods! Incredibly upset and angry that this has happened. My children could've been poisoned! Calling asap tomorrow to let them know what happened. I hope no one else has this happen to them!

Toxic to the Touch Castor Bean Plant

"Touching the plant with your bare unprotected skin can be dangerous. Getting the bitter-tasting sap into your eyes or mouth from secondary contact can be downright deadly. Even mowed-down and desiccated castor plants are toxic and should not be handled without gloves. Some cities and states are trying to ban the ornamental use of castor bean plants in their regions. If the plant oils and resins are this toxic, even the slash & burning of the plants would make the smoke from their incineration a toxic irritant if you should happen to get it onto yourself. Accidentally walking through the smoke would cause the smoky resins and toxic oils to get into your eyes, mouth and lungs with unfortunate and painful results.

If all the symptoms of accidental poisoning as described are not enough, the castor plant also produces the protein ricin, a highly toxic ingredient that can be used as both a chemical and biological weapon. Another toxin that is produced from castor bean plants is RCA (Ricinus communis agglutinin,) a potent blood coagulant."

Don't listen to the reviews of people who say it doesn't burn. They obviously do not know how to burn charcoal. This stuff burns quick and hot! Great for searing! It also has a very pleasant smoke flavor after cooking meats. The only thing keeping it from 5 stars is the last 2 bags I bought had way more rocks than usual in it. Since it sold by weight, I'm a bit frustrated in the quality control. (These weren't small rocks either) Even with that frustration, I recommend you try it. Use a chimney though. Never lighter fluid.

This is usually one of the better brands of lump, however after a cook a couple days ago I found a couple rocks and some kind of fabric in the ash. Rocks are common and don't worry me but I can only think of one fabric that would survive the heat of the charcoal fire and that's asbestos. That's a known carcinogen and not something I want in my food.

I bought a large bag of the lump charcoal but can only use half the bag, I prefer larger pieces in my smoker. Half the bag was tiny junk barely big as a quarter. No wonder it's cheaper than other brands.

My husband bought this charcoal at Drug Mart in Westlake Ohio. We were tired of other brands not becoming hot enough or hard to light. The charcoal is a natural charcoal. Wood that has been previously burned. Larger blocks, not chunks of charcoal.
Using lighter fluid, on the charcoal, the fire was hot quickly and lasted longer than any other brand we have ever used.
The best surprise was our food that was cooked on the grill with this charcoal had a "wood flavor" that was delicious. We grilled chicken and hamburgers. "Delicious flavor" We didn't need to add wood chips for smoke or any additional products. Just the charcoal. I would highly recommend this product!
