What a joke these people are. Filed over a month ago and my state is still processing and their trying to say it doesn t say why which I find hard to believe and I sat on the phone for 3 hrs waiting for a rep just to tell me that

Pretty ironic that since the current governor has been in office that I have been getting these "unofficial audits" from the state claiming that they need copies of all the info that they already have on my return for my property tax ect. When they owe me $$, then they claim I didn't respond to a prior letter that I never received and take it upon themselves to readjust my return so I owe them $$. Then only give me a 2 week window to pay before they start charging interest. No wonder mass amounts of people are leaving the state every year. Some scam they got going on

Filing system is poor, lack of communication between NYS taxation and finance and individuals. They want to audit but not take calls. Waiting for 3 months now, 3 weeks ago received a notice, I was getting a letter in the mail, yet to receive that. I worked hard all year, as a single parent this is hard.

It is completely the worst, especially during the pandemic. No one seems to know what is going on with my state tax refund, that I should've gotten back late February. I had to wait to get letter, then from there I resend my W-2 as they requested because of my former employer mistake. So, I filed that document March 16. They had to do a 90 day investigation, from there is when I should have gotten back my tax, but seems no one cared to even send me my money. So a complaint was filed and told me to wait another 30 days. Which now has passed and still haven't gotten my refund, or word or letter or anything of why the process is taking long. Like at this point they need better training or something because this is beyond frustrating

NY state , the Wellfare State imposed unpaid taxes and I have sent them a redermination letter from IRS stating that I owe them zero. I am repaying the so called mistaken taxes in light of the evaluation of the federal letter.
Calling the wellfare state, and asking clarifications, I have been transferred 3 times within Harriman campus and not a clear answer was provided.
I asked 3 incompetent bureaucrats to describe the iter for a sent letter from the origin till the verdict all and 3 of them resembled incompetent zombies.
The ability of those unprofessional in terms of taxes is seriously questionable.
They tried to cover up incompetency through stupid jargon that even an elementary school student can decide as lies.
I urge the citizens of the welfare state to open their eyes because legal mistakes are present in terms of taxation in NY state.

It took two years to get my 2015 state tax return. Finally found out why. I signed the wrong spot on the form. No other problems any other year.

Horrible customer service. I called numerous times, and I get a robot person with a canned response they say 1000 times a day. They transferred me to erroneous departments. They double deducted out of the bank account and will not return the money. Now they are saying I can put in an AU-11 and maybe get it back in 120 days. Unbelievable.

Never got my 2016 refund check. Spent 2 hours on the phone. Finally got someone on the phone who said they'd mail me a form to fill out so they could reissue me a check. That form never arrived. Borderline criminal in my opinion... Update: They finally sent me confirmation the check was never cashed and that they would reissue me another. 2 months have passed since that day. Thieves!

Takes entirely too long to receive tax refund! If the shoe were on the other foot, they would have been hassling me to pay my share. Now that they owe me they feel like they can just do whatever. I don t even live in nys. I filed over a month ago and still haven t received my refund. Disgrace!

UPDATE 2018 RETURN: Still takes forever and a day.

The website is not working properly and I called them. It is a true torture. They put you on hold and you can wait for a human forever.
If so many people are calling them it means there are problems and they're not doing a good job. People call when they have problems. This agency needs some kind of supervision. New York taxpayers deserve better.

I've been trying to dissolve my NYS LLC (which has actually never done any business) for two years....not a single sale since 2007. I've called numerous times and have sent every necessary document including my check. They do absolutely nothing except tell me to call back time and time again. Talk about useless!!!

I filed on the 10th of January, I just received an updated response, stating they are sending a letter requesting further information or I can respond online. However when I go online the services are unavailable. I kid you not, the other day at work another coworker went online to respond to the letter, was able to print the letter. When I log in it automatically says services unavailable. This is just messed up. I work full time all year around as a single mother, I need my refund. So, basically I'm still waiting for a letter that has taken 6 weeks so far to reach me. New laws, are not helping people who actually work with kids, to say I'm making it barely work living paycheck to paycheck, but who cares right that my kids and info has been the same. That someone else can respond to their letter online and for me the services is unavailable, so my kids and I still have to wait to feel secure. Thanks, I get an additional amount taken out to not even be able to use online services. Another thing that is crazy, I have the state services access for most and I cant even get access for my own taxes. I guess I work for the wrong part of the state.

I've just learned that the state can send you a tax bill that you don't owe, that you have proof of being paid many months ago, and there's not a damn thing you can do about it.
Why is this? Because literally every time I try to call the number on the document, and go through all of the prompts, it always ends with "all representatives are currently busy, please try your call again later." So I do that. A dozen times within the past week, at different times of the day. Doesn't matter. Filed a dispute online a week ago. Any response? Nope.
Now they're threatening wage garnishment upon a family member, and there is literally no recourse.

Oh, and for further lols. The recorded message "Our contact center is currently closed, please call back during regular business hours" is fantastic, since it doesn't then tell you what those hours are. Apparently closing time is 4:30. Man, I love having some of the highest taxes in the country. Really makes me feel like everything I put into the system is well used.

Being a CPA and tax professional, I am constantly in contact with multiple agencies (IRS, DOL, NYS Tax, NJ Tax, Etc).

Out of every agency I have to talk with, NYS Tax is the worst. Constantly call in, only to be told that all representatives are busy and to call back later. Call back every 15 minutes for hours and never reach anyone. Then, when you finally get through, you get hung up on.

The IRS is phenomenal with their service to tax pros, if NYS could follow suit it would make paying taxes not quite as painful.

When i have tried to create a user id on the website, there's a problem due to my info being on a related NY state site and there's not a logical way to fix this without calling. And...the hold time is ridiculous. Federal is easier to reach and there are how many more tax payers they serve? Thanks, NY State. Thanks...

They don't help you just as the geverment never will. Its time to end taxation as its now theft from a corrupt government.

830 am exactly, Michael (#5233) Answered phone promised to help me get a payment plan, put me on hold for one hour, then got cut off, then call back repeatedly to be told everyone is busy, money being held and taken today if I don t get payment plan, $2600.00, leaving me $500 In bank. No answer since 930after I got cut off!!! How do we pay these people back for their cruelty, and not in a money way. God will put them in an excruciating HELL, torture for all time!

Let my exhusband and his gf sign my name and collect whatever they got. I was disabled for years and just recently back to work did my taxs and took them. Cant find any help cause can only go back 3 years for there befitting not mine!

They still have not processed my return. It's been over a month.

yes they will garnish from wages,unbenknownst to me woke up one morning pay day and no money ,I called once opened they did put money back but it was a pain in the arss and to think what i owe is chicken feed and making poverty wages,salary under 29k ,Hey TRUMP can you pay this for me?

In many cases when dealing with a NYS government agency one would expect to have the worst experience and accomplish absolutely nothing. However in this case I was blessed to have gotten Melissa on the line from the Sales Tax 1 Division who not only answered my call timely but was pleasant to speak with and she was very informative. Not only that but she went the extra mile and prevented an incorrect registration filing that hasn't even been received by their office yet. In order that when it does arrive it's registered correctly! Melissa you are the bomb digitty!!!!

I'm trying to change my mother's address now that she's in a nursing home. They wouldn't let me because I couldn't tell them how much money my mother "requested" from them. The answer is NONE! I just need to change her mailing address!

For the taxes we pay, NYS needs an update to this system. I spent 30 mins on the system trying to receive help.

Just when I thought that I was going to call the Sales Tax 1 Division and end up with someone else on the phone besides Melissa who was amazing... I figured if I didn't get her that I would expect to have a bad experience. I was lucky enough to get Ray who normally works in the Dept of State Division for various licensing - Ray... for someone who was just a sub helping out a short handed department went the extra mile to assist me in my filing. He was very pleasant and informative. I'm absolutely impressed at the professionalism and customer service. Ray... you were effing amazing and I expect that the next time I call you'll be in upper management. You Rock!!!!!!!!

1 star only because I can't give this a zero. The website is absolutely worthless and attempting to contact a human by phone only puts you into a never ending loop with a machine.

over 2 month !! waiting for my state tax return.... what is going on !!

Thieves, a Dominican lady did my taxes at a David s Check Cashing spot In Harlem, and claimed 3 kids with my social and I never saw the money. I filled out an identity theft form and they denied me. The receptionist I spoke to said the identity theft Dept had no phones...(really?..) so they would be contacting me directly. Nothing Yet and they want me to pay 1400+ dollars for money I was over-paid . This is why I hate NYC it s a financial death trap. Don t do buisness with Dominicans they are shady thieves.

Im not selling my house just to get enough money for a bag of chips

I wish I got the name of the revenue agent I spoke to on the phone. Overall very rude and he had no interest in helping me resolve an issue related to corporate tax. Grade A jagoff.

I would not rate them with even one star. I sat on the phone on hold for 3 hours waiting for a person to speak to. At one point I had a number but then as I got closer to being under 15 I no longer had a number. Now the time is 4:30 and still no answer. This is absolutely uncalled for. I tried to answer my questions online but of course could not find the answer.

I been calling no one answers or a long wait time also ypur good to send letters when people owe but how about when you need to send the refund i got audited i sent my papers that was required 2 months ago no response and no refund WHERE IS MY REFUND.......

During the time of need New Yorkers deserve the release of the NYS Tax Refunds! What is the hold up?!! Many have now been waiting 2 months with no answers as to where their money is. This is ridiculous!!!

Worthless and archaic calling system. They don't have a callback or a call waiting system.

Note worthy honor for delegated affirmative action to ensure my finances are orderly... fair & just.....My business is handled accordingly & the hard work within surely does not go unnoticed.. They ve work and process for me when I don t even know it.. My refund deposited directly in only two weeks...New York State EXCELLENCE. Safe & Secure in privacy matters...

We have extended 2017 extensions for our small companies, but NYS Finance keeps sending us financial charges for later filings. We spent quite bit time to search history... They are not helping business, instead creating tremendous work for small business owners.

This year so many clients got the refund on hold because of more information like "they state NYS, that they had send letter for copy of W2 etc.." still so many people waiting for the refund....?

Been trying to contact for a week calling every chance I get, says press button to speak to agent and then goes to a busy signal, next time around they say all representatives are busy and the call ends

I've been calling the NYS Department of T&F for years for answers to tax questions, mostly when I fill out my tax returns or those of my relatives. I just noticed that the Department has a very low review rating. This surprises me because I have never had a bad experience that I can recall. In fact, I've been quite impressed at how helpful and understanding the representatives have been. I suspect the key may be that callers should first try to answer the question on your own by going through the instructional forms. This will get your brain primed and enable you to be as clear as possible in what you're asking.

By far the most frustrating excuse for service in the history of anything ever. I tried using the website and after I typed in my new user ID and it wouldn't let me log in so I changed my password and tried again and it still didn't work. I submitted a message for help and now its going to take 3 days for them to "help" me. I can't believe I even have to give them one star. They should really fix google reviews so you can give them zero or even negative.
