Transportation to the Kingfisher Bay Resort is via a 40 minute ferry ride from Hervey Bay. If you book all your transfers through the hotel, you won't have to work out how to get to the resort once you arrive at Hervey Bay airport.

When we got to the hotel reception for check-in, the staff member there ignored us even though we lined up in the Accor Plus priority queue. After we had been waiting a while, Ranger Tess was nice enough to check us in. I later found out that the reception staff member was Kat from the UK and was apparently the Duty Manager. Other reception staff that we met during our stay such as Marc was helpful and Elvie was friendly.

Our room was a good size and had large glass doors which opened out to a balcony with two outdoor chairs. The bathroom had the shower over the bath and the bathroom window had no window coverings. A screen outside the room provide some privacy.

In the main resort area there are two pools and two restaurants, the Maheno and the Seabelle Restaurant. Near the beach, you'll find two other pools and the Sunset Bar and the Sand Bar.

The Rangers conduct activities, some of them at a cost and some are at no charge. The Rangers are very knowledgeable and friendly. We participated in the Beach and Mangrove walk with Ranger Adam and the Bush Tucker walk with Ranger Anne. Both these activities were free. We also went on the guided Canoe Paddle with Ranger Jay. This activity was $30 per person. I would recommend that anyone staying at the resort participate in some of the walks/tours listed in their 'What's On' guide.

Other things you can do include, but is not limited to, is fishing, hiking or hiring a 4WD and discover the island.

We had a relaxing and enjoyable stay at the Kingfisher Bay Resort.

There was an excellent place to rest - really nothing to do without spending money. Some workers are little bit lazy but that's maybe natural in Kingfisher Bay Resort. Beautiful natatural scenic points everywhere. All prices are couple of land. Recommend to visit here in Winter.

Absolutely beautiful. Our King Resort Room was pristine, the service was friendly and efficient and the facilities impeccable. We loved it and have already booked to return with the whole family.

This resort was a pleasant surprise to see, it has all that you could ask for with eating and dining options that cater for families and large groups. The standard of food is up there with the best resorts in Australia, it has a unique Aussie feel from the native vegetation every where you look around the resort. Native flora and fauna abound on this wonderful natural sand island which is the biggest in the world, but if you do come to Kingfisher bay resort it has a multitude of must do's from swimming in lake McKenzie to flying over this magnificent island in Airfraser which take off and land on 75 mile beach, this island has many wonderful surprises which I can only recommend to all, come bring the family you will have a great holiday.

We had a very brief stay, to plan my Mum's wedding, and we had nothing short of an amazing experience with you guys!
The food at the Sand and Wood was so freaking amazing!
Every team member we spoke to was so lovely and helpful, a super special thank you to Jo the coordinator, it was so great to meet you, there was not a question you couldn't answer and you made my Mum feel so great and at ease with all this wedding madness! Can't wait to be back next year!

A great place to stay to access the island. Resort a bit tired and needs an upgrade especially the food and beverage outlets. Expensive and not great quality food. Avoid the pool bar restaurant just off the jetty. Food is poor quality and over priced. Kids ordered child burgers and it was literally one tiny slider and a few chips . Villas are good but depends on which one you book. The resort tries to get owners to standardised furniture and fittings and supplies in each villa however it can be inconsistent. Get a villa close to the main building otherwise it can be a bit of a hike. I'd recommend taking your own sharp knives for cooking and a few basics like fry pan just in case the items in the villa are worse for wear.

Staff are friendly and accommodating. The dining part of the restaurant needs to be closed in from the sand flies, mozzies, blow flies and other flying insects. Seriously, there are more blow flies at the evening buffet than tourists on the island. Big fat, well fed blow flies having relations all over the food your suppose to eat. The food that you pay an unreasonable amount of money for. Like, they really cash in on the fact that people will eat out and charge like wounded buffalo for the privellage of eating second rate food. I pray I dont get food poisoning to go with the infected sand fly and mozzie bites.

First I ll say that the rangers and guides were lovely and helpful, they re doing a great job.

It s the actual resort that was deeply disappointing. The rooms are dated, and that alone would be okay, but the amount of noise and disruption is unacceptable. There is some sort of employee facility where they do all their cleaning and such right across from the set of villas where we stayed (room 146 in case you re looking to book), and we heard the garbage trucks, vacuum cleaners always going, garbage being dumped. And they kept the lights on 24/7 which meant that the Japanese doors which acted as curtains did not block the light and it was never fully dark in the room.

The rooms are not soundproof, you ll hear the people above and below you, including crying babies and couples having sex. And the cleaners thought it would be a good idea to vacuum the room next to us at 7am. The bed was really hard, with a single flat pillow, a flat sheet and an old fleece blanket I had to use the very old ratty blanket from the closet to keep warm.

Breakfast was good but 2 of the 3 restaurants are stupid expensive. The grounds are nice, the pools looked clean (I didn t get in, you know the kids pee in it), but the way it is run really ruins an otherwise untouched and magical island. If you want to experience Fraser Island, do it on your own in a 4WD and a tent at the various camping sites. The redeeming parts are all outside the resort; the trails, the views, the beach, lake Mackenzie etc. The Beauty Spots Tour was really great! The plane ride was worth it and the pilots were all handsome...bonus. And the archery was good fun.

Lastly, my mum and I had massages, and while mine was fine, it was her worst one ever. We are polite folks who don t enjoy whinging, so if she says it was terrible, it must have been. I met her poolside and thought she had jumped in the pool; her hair was wet...with oil. She was dripping oil from her hair and the massage itself she says was incompetent. She twice politely brought it up with reception, and both times was told they would investigate it. Whatever that means. She deserves to have that money refunded, she works hard for it and she was so disappointed.

There is a pattern of complaint from a huge number of guests outlining the same problems and the resort doesn t seem to have addressed them. As a business, that needs to change.

Our stay here was memorable we enjoyed the resort and the accor side was very good. The whole process from the barge to the hotel went very smoothly, it was a great experience. Our room was nice, however the bathroom needed a bit of a facelift. The tiled step into the spa looked like it had been through an earthquake. The staff were on average very good. Enjoyed the restaurants, the food was fantastic.

Booked in at the River Heads office and took the bus to the ferry. Friendly staff, everyone says 'hello' the maintenance staff included. Kingfisher Bay Resort has.. Huge areas to avoid the crowds... Everything is a little pricey considering how much it costs to get supplies and employees into Kingfisher Bay Resort. My local pub charges more.?!
Wearing casual clobber is the norm, though we all look nice in a Versace frock....It can get busy at the bars and food counters at dinner time...school holidays (kids hey!). All the food is good particularly 'The Sand Bar' and 'breakfast buffet....the 5 course set dinner at 'The Seabelle' was lacking...
"Activity"' I find, is a vulgar word...but there is not just a plethora, but a multitude of things to do... as I've always tried to maintain my Clive Palmer physique, I did nothing. The reception staff are attentive and very helpful. Would certainly go again.

Kingfisher Bay Resort & Fraser Island just cannot disappoint. The only issue, if you could call it that, during our 3-day stay during the Covid restrictions was that the restaurant was somewhat struggling to accommodate the number of people wanting to have dinner at the "usual" time. As a result, we ended up only being able to secure a spot quite late for one of the nights and instead opted for a take-away pizza from around the corner - which was a good option!

Happy to come back for another visit some time in the future!

You may like it if you're keen for venomous snakes, wild dogs that eat children and biting insects. There is a nice pool and good food. The rooms are good enough. Ours was dark and gloomy without adequate electric light.

Extremely expensive for old rooms, dark and feel. They have a kind of monopoly on the island and they benefit from it. The restaurants are on the same level as the rooms. The hotel belongs is a Mercure (Accor)

We visited on a Monday out of season and found reception staff welcoming and helpful.

We were invited to use the pools, dine at the restaurants and join the free ranger talks.

We did use the pools and eat at one of the restaurants but did a self guided walk to a lookout that returned via the beach.

The resort looks great from the little we saw. It is a trek to the island's natural attractions from Kingfisher, whicis why we chose to stay on the other side of the island in more downmarket accommodation closer to the sights and next to 75 mile Beach.

Beautiful resort nestled between the ocean and the rainforest. The staff were genuinely friendly and helpful, the rooms were neat and quaint. We did the 4WD island Beauty Spot tour and we got to see the various features and beautiful landscapes the island had to offer. Some people on the tour expressed that the ride was super bumpy but a lot of fun (I had a a great time, I think some people may have had different expectations of what a 4WD tour is). We also did the whale watching and it was incredible. We got to see a mother whale and her calf swim right up to the boat. Experience i will never forget. Food was great too, wide variety of cusine across the three restaurants. Was a great place to stay, would definitely take a holiday there again.

Initially was put in a 2br plus a 1br. The 2br had a faulty washing machine so they moved us to a beautiful 2 story 3br. Many thanks to the management for accommodating our group. Had some annoying cranky neighbour claiming to be a ranger living on site, who whined at the slightest noise at 830pm while trying to repair a loose spotlight, but aside from him it was a lovely stay.

I was surprised by how nice this resort was since it's in such a remote location, however it does feel past it's prime. I expect little has changed since the 90s. There are three restaurants on site, and they all charge far more than you would pay for a restaurant if equal quality elsewhere. There is nowhere else you can eat near the resort so they kind of have you over a barrel.

We ate at the Sand and Wood twice. A pretty mediocre Continental breakfast costs $27. For dinner entrees where from $16-29 and mains about $30+

The nicer restaurant on site I can't recall the name but we ate there as well and prices are slightly higher. This one shoots for a fine dining experience but missed the mark. We and three other tables had bookings but were not seated until over one hour beyond our booked time, our order was initially not submitted when we gave it and we asked another server to check. They had to retake our order three times in total before we got any food delivered, and when they checked each time the order submitted was incorrect. The food we got was boring and unremarkable. One dish we ordered was the Open Ravioli. This dish was a few pasta sheets laid over a few prawns and scallops smothered in sauce, but the tails were still in the prawns! I found that quite odd.

Overall if it wasn't for having to eat at the restaurants I would give the resort a higher rating. It's also difficult to spend the day driving with your own 4x4 as we did because there are no options to get lunch you can take with you.

This is meant to be a 4 star resort...0 stars for service. My friend accidently swallowed a cockroach that was in her salad. When she informed staff member another member of the public also stated they had seen numerous cockroaches around the salad area the waiter attributed this to the heat, said he would take note and charged full price for dinner anyway. Bar and restuarant prices very expensive for both very poor quality and service. On other occassions food often undercooked, bins not changed in room, old milk left over from previous residents. All of this highlighted to staff who simply shrugged their shoulders. There is another resort on the other side of the island...possibly the same hotel chain and prices much cheaper. As this is a remote world heritage Island I did not mind paying the prices, however, new management and staff training desparately needed. In addition to this you need to book the car and complete paper work (deposit of $150 needed for room also) at the office on the mainland. We almost missed the ferry due to this. The office on the mainland had 1 member of staff dealing with a long line of customers. While in the office on the mainland I got 20 separate sandfly bites while I waited in the 20 minute queue, they were everywhere. Surely the office could have some form of pest control?? This place has the potential to be great but it is not.

This place has you trapped and they know it. Food was the worst I have eaten in years. I tried two different restaurants and completely underwhelmed each time. I've had better food on an airplane, and that's saying something.
Take your own food and save the disappointment of paying ridiculous prices for sub par food.
Also brought up the quality with staff and told 'that's how we do it'

My family & I have visited Kingfisher many times for years now. This resort is set in amongst the forest overlooking the bay. It is a place to unwind and be very one with nature. The sent of the rainforest in the air, the sounds of the birds in the trees and waves lapping gently on the shore are pure bliss. The rooms are comfortable, warm and very private and are all nestled amongst the forest. We use Kingfisher as a base to explore the island and at night after exploring it is beautiful to return to tasty food and great service. Kingfisher has changed only minimally over the years that I have visited and it seems when you walk into the room and you are greeted by the transparent privacy doors it is though you are at home again. Thankyou Beautiful people for you amazing staff and natural surroundings which compliments this stunning wilderness.

Resort is beautiful, stayed in villa 625 facilities are beautiful. However, the service is not as great. Maybe don t bother ordering a cocktail because it won t come for atleast 30 mins and even then you have to remind staff... Highly recommend staying here just be prepared for island time service

The villas are incredibly dated! Definitely need a re do, the showers are probably the worst part. Food is expensive but actually quite good. The hospitality staff are wonderful, but the reception staff seem clueless. The pools are nice and clean. Overall, Id stay here again but in a hotel room, definitely not a villa.

We've stayed in the same villa 6yrs in a row and love it...it's central to everything with everything in walking distance. The whole island is a beautiful place!!
The only negative but isn't a big one is Kingfisher Resort cafe's near the pool and bar inside is in desperate need of maintenance and a make over.
